It was the first week of Summer Vacation and the first week since graduation. Many people were walking along the sidewalks to get to one house, the house where a party was being held. Although many people were walking, one particular girl had stopped as if she was waiting for someone.
Pretty soon, she was the only one who stood upon the sidewalk. She pulled out her cell phone and looked at her text messages. "Wait for me. Ill be there around five," read one of the texts, but it was already 05:15.
He pulled out his phone and looked at the time. It was already 05:05; he was late. He ran and ran, but was suddenly pulled aside into an alley. He was surrounded by men, all bigger than he was.
It was now 05:44 and she could no longer wait. Deciding to go home, she heard the sirens of an ambulance and police, however she didn't care it wasn't anything that was going to affect her. Right?
At least a week has passed and she still received no calls from him. She was pissed, but she was also worried. She never heard about the incident, thus she was upset with him for not showing up.
She became fed up with him not contacting her. She walked to his house wanting an answer. Before she knocked on his door, she decided to call him.
The first call, ignored.
Another attempt, ignored.
Fed up, she knocked on the door. "I'm coming," she heard him yell.
The door opened revealing a bruised man. Her eyes watered upon seeing her boyfriend like this. "Hebe," he was shocked. He didn't plan on seeing her until he was healed and there she was to witness his scars and bruises.
"What happened," she managed to ask. Her eyes watered and tears trickled down her cheeks.
He was quiet at first, but decided it was time for her to know. "I got in a fight. But don't worry, it was just a little one," he lied.
"No. I've seen you after a 'little' fight before, this is different," she managed to choked out.
The two were quiet for a matter of seconds, but he decided to break the silence and her heart,"Lets break up Hebe."
"Aaron," she cried. She didn't want this.
"Its for the best," he said and she walked away without saying anything else. And when the door closed, he finished his sentence. "I love you, but I don't want to see you get hurt. Its for your safety." His tears came streaming down his cheeks.
It was only a few days after their break up, but they decided to go along as friends if it was even possible. The whole group planned to meet at a cafe. Hebe being one of the last to arrive put her head down for she had a headache.
"Hebe, are you okay," Genie asked noticing her friend's abonormal behavior. There was no answer, perhaps the girl was asleep? "Hebe," Genie called out again.
"Hmm," Hebe hummed, her head still down.
"Are you okay," Genie asked again.
"Mhmm," she hummed once again.
"Hey," came a familiar voice, Hebe's head immediately bouncing up to look.
"We thought you weren't gonna make it," Jiro stated.
"Hey Hebe," he smiled and she smiled back. They were both holding back. Everyone knew something was wrong when the two kept their eyes locked upon eachother.
"Excuse me, I'm going to go to the restroom," Hebe got up and wiped her invisible tears.
"I'll go too," Genie smiled following the girl. "You guys broke up huh?" Hebe remained silent for she didn't want to talk about it. "Its okay, you don't need an asshole for your boyfriend. He's a thug, don't keep your mind locked on him. There are plenty of guys."
"Don't call him an asshole. He's not a thug," Hebe flinched before defending the man she loved.
"Hebe I'm just looking out for you," Genie replied.
"What's wrong with you two," Jiro asked.
"We broke up," Aaron answered. "I called it off," he stated, reading everyones' minds'.
"Anyways, what do you guys plan on doing now," Selina asked.
"I'm going to drink my life away," Aaron answered.
"You promised me you wouldn't do that," Hebe replied catching everyones attention.
"What's the point of keeping a promise when we aren't together anymore," he smirked, but deep down inside he was hurting to say something like that to her.
"Tsk," she clenched her fist, trying to hold back her pain. "You say it like I caused it. You called it off, but fine go ahead, drink your life away. It's not like I didn't try to stop you, at least I'm not going to be the stupid one in the end, go ahead and break a promise what does it matter? You've done it before even when we were together, so why should I care," she said to him before walking out of the cafe.
Aaron stood up, he was going to follow her.
"Just let her be, Aaron," Genie stated and he watched her walk away.
Everyone saw it, he knew that. Everyone saw when his tears came trickling down from his eyes. Everyone saw, but no one said a thing, for they didn't Know what to say to him.
"Hello," Hebe finally answered her phone after nonstop ringing and on the other line was a drunkened Aaron.
"Hebe," he called her name. Over and over again. "I miss you. I miss holding you. I miss when I got to hold you to sleep. I miss you."
Pretty soon, he became quiet indicating that he was asleep.
Summer came by quickly and Hebe had to leave her friends behind to study in the States. She was relieved to leave everything behind. She was relieved, but she was sad.
Six years have passed and Hebe is finally on her way back. She was happy to be back. She met a few of her friends at the airport.
"Hebe, welcome back," the girls cheered making the girl smile.
"Are the guys hot there," Selina asked.
"I'm sorry Selina, I didn't have time to check out guys for you," she smiled. It felt nice to be back. Suddenly, there was a beep coming from Calvin's butt pocket. He pulled out his phone and read the message out loud.
"Hey, I'm coming back tomorrow morning." Calvin's facial expression displayed confusion. "Who the hell is this?" After a matter of minutes, Calvin decided to shrug it off.
"We'll help you get your bags," Chun smiled.
"Hello," Calvin said into the receiver.
"Why didn't you reply to my text," another man asked through the line.
"Who is this," Calvin asked confused.
"Aaron. How do you forget your best friend," the man replied.
"Oh," was all Calvin said.
"Well I'll be coming tomorrow morning at 10, pick me up at the airport. Take one of the girls with you so my girl wont feel awkward," Aaron said before hanging up.
"The hell was that," Calvin asked himself before he texted the girls.
"Sorry, I have work" -Genie
"I have to go woth my mom to a doctors appointment." -Selina
"Sorry, I work, ask Hebe," -Ella
Calvin sighed disappointedly. How was he going to ask Hebe to come pick up her ex and his current girlfriend tomorrow? Suddenly his phone began to ring, startling him.
"Ella said you needed someone to pick up Aaron with you tomorrow."
"Can you come?"
"Yeah. I don't mind. I have nothing to do anyways."
"You sure? He is your ex. I don't want you to get hurt."
"I appreciate you looking out for my feelings, but its been six years Calvin. I'm over it and I'm sure he's over it."
"I'm just looking out for you," Calvin laughed realizing that six years has passed by so quickly.
"Okay, well just pick me up tomorrow morning." And with that they hung up.
"Hey," Hebe smiled as she got into her friends car.
"Are you sure you're ready for this," Calvin asked. He was full of concern and curiousity.
"Six years Calvin," Hebe smiled.
"Just making sure," he stated before driving off.
"Where is he," Calvin asked impatiently pacing back and forth.
"Sit down," Hebe smiled at her friend.
"It's been like thirty minutes past ten," Calvin stated.
"Aaron Yan, I've been waiting for fourty minutes now. If you don't show up in the next ten seconds, I'm leaving," she said out loud as she waited for her boyfriend. She waited another five minutes before she finally decided to give up. As she walked she heard the sirens of an ambulance and police cars but though nothing of it.
"At least I know he's safe in an airport," Hebe told herself mentally.
"Calvin," she heard a familiar voice from a distance. She immediately stood up and she had to hold herself back from running to him. She didn't understand what was going on with her. Just a few seconds ago she was over him and now it was like she was in love with him all over again. Its been six years, it was impossible to still have feelings for him.
"Hey Aaron," Calvin smiled. "You must be Aaron's girlfriend."
"Hi, I'm Rainie," the girl beside Aaron said.
"Holy shit you scared me," Calvin said when he turned to see Hebe standing next to him.
"Shut up Calvin," she suddenly had an attitude. "Hi, I'm Hebe."
"You're a friend of Aaron's? I've never heard him mention you," Rainie said confused.
"We're not that close," Hebe smiled. 'Actually, I'm his exgirlfriend.' she wanted to say.
"Lets get going," Aaron interrupted the two girls conversation.
"Why are you two so quiet," Calvin asked referring to Hebe and Aaron.
"Its nothing," they both replied at the same time.
"Awkward," Calvin mumbled.
"Lets go play some basketball Calvin. Ranie and I against you and Hebe," Aaron suggested.
"I don't want to play," Rainie whined.
"Annoying much," Hebe mumbled receiving a pinch from Calvin.
"Behave yourself," Calvin demanded. "Basketball seems fine. We don't have anything to do."
