Has anyone seen this series? Apparently Jin Yong hated it as the plot was changed dramatically, but I haven't read the book or seen other adaptations so I can't comment. I thought it was a decent series, but I can't help thinking how easily Kiu Fung, Yeung Gor or Guo Jing would have smashed Woo Fei

Jin Yong is the writer of the famous Ancients series from TVB/Mainland/Taiwan, most of them are in a various versions.
(Legend of the Condor Hero's, Return of the Condor Hero's, Flying Fox, Semi Devil Semi Gods, Dragon Sabre&Heaven Sword, Big Hut Kim, Hap Haat Hang, Su Kim Yan Sau Lok, Duke of the mount deer, Paat ma siu saai fung, Ling sing Kuet, Fee Wu Oi Tsun, Siu Oh Kong Wu)

I have seen this series till it's really annoys me later in the story. The book wasn't interesting to me at all. And in this series I saw Charmaine the first time. I begun to like her, because of her face and not her acting. If we talk about acting, she isn't that good in this series. Acturally it's was a bit annoying to see her so soft.

There are 2 books, Flying Fox and Fee Wu Oi Tsun.
Flying Fox was about Wu Jat Tooth and Fee Wu Oi Tsun, as the name says about his son Wu Fee.
I also remember the old version with Neu Leung Wai and Angie Chiu, that was also a bad one. Maybe I really don't like the book, so the series seems to be not attractive at all.

Family Wu's Sword/Tooth is very powerfull. Also Miu Yan Fung is very good. The problem is that the book is very short, so this time Jing Yong didn't pay too much attention about the mow kong in this book. So it seems that Wu is weaker than all the other heros in the other strories.

you have? do you know where i can find the one made in 1985? i heard that one is really good. ppl say that that one is better than this one cuase the casts are way better. if you know where i can find it can you give me the site so i can dl it? thanks =)

The flashbacks of the series was great, everything else SUCKED!

this serie was ok. it was too long. i agree. the flashbacks was what made it watchable.

The casts for the 80s version with Leui Leung Wait and Angie Chiu were very good but the storyline of this noval is really bad. I hate this noval so much even the great cast couldnt' salvage it for me. IMO, this is the worst of the JY novals.

I haven´t seen the new series but I remember liking the old one. I use to watch it on video at my grandmothers´ on weekends..aa that brings back memories. The cast was good back then with leui leung wai and tse yin, dont remember the rest.
Anyways, does anybody know where I can dl this series? The old one of course

This must be one of the best serie next to the legend of the condor hero 1 2 3 and four.... But i like the older vesion better than the new.. The theme song of the older version is one of the best in the 80"s

This series was horrible. The series dragged on and on. Charmaine's character was supposed to show up near the end of the series. Sunny was supposed to see her and it was supposed to love at first sight.

I heard the story was very different from the book and that Jin Yong couldn't even finish it, but i didn't read the book so i thought it was ok the beginning with Felix was really good but i hated Marco ngai as a bad guy.

The cast for this series was

The storyline for this serie was really different. There was no Yue Yat Yat in the old version, there was a character similar to her but the name was Chin Ling So. Same with Lip Song Ching, in the old version there were two female characters that took on lil bits of her role. One was named Ma Cheun Fa, who became a nun, and Yeun Chi Yee. Charmaine's performance in this serie was really bad. I am a fan of her's, but omg when I watched this serie I was disappointed with her acting. Lau Hu Tong was soo funny, but the most annoying character ever! I felt bad for that one guy from The Red Flower Sect who loved her, when she risked her life to save Wu Fei on their wedding day. The serie was pretty bad if you know the original storyline, but if you ignore that part the serie wouldn't be that bad.. But however I must agree that the first few epsiodes with Felix and Maggie were the best. Another change was Maggie's character didn't know how to fight in the old version, yet she does in this one and its a good thing. Maggie has great skills in martial arts. I always thought Felix and Maggie make such a cute couple. Overall, I thought this serie was passable, not good, not bad.

Wu Fei was awesome, wasn't he poisoned through most of the episodes?

He actually was.. One of the last scenes where he was poisoned so badly he nearly died, then Yue Yat Yat slit a little hole in his neck, and sucked the blood/poison from him, then it went into her. There was no cure to the poison I believe, that was the only way to save him.. Poor Yue Yat Yat though, she dies right on her wedding day, the man who loved her was right there and saw the whole thing with his very eyes... so emotional.
Also, Lip Song Ching also died from poison. Fok Hong On's mother gave her a drink, if she didn't drink it she wouldn't give her two baby's back. So she drank it, was poisoned. Wu Fei came to get her, but was too late. They couldn't find the antidote in time either. They got Chin Ka Lok to dress up as Fok Hong On for her to see for the last time..

I saw this some time ago. Compared to the 1985 version, this one was okay but not as good, in my opinion. But, I like the actors/actresses of the 1999 version better than the '85. I think Sunny and Charmaine looked really cute together especially after seeing them in DIF IV.

The 99 version is better in terms of direction and art, the most of the story was changed and some of the charaters have bad acting. The 85 version may have bad special effects and scenery, but the acting was pretty good.

I thought this was really bad. I normally prefer modern drama series. But since this was a remake and had the reputation I watched it. I have not watched the previious one. I watched this remake and I think it was not really good. Really kinda typical olden drama I think.

This series doesn't seems to be that good, kinda boring. Charmaine role is very boring. Its not as good as I thought it turned out to be. If you haven't seen this movie, it never hurts to see it.

this show was really draggy and slow and the parts with charmaine were also so long winded. the parts with wang yi was funny but then it was not the kind of ideal parts cos she was not pairing up with him in the show. overall this show the not bring out the essence of the book written by jin yong

I love this series...I keep rewatching it...I think for more than 3 times. Also, whenever I have time in the future, I will definitely rewatch it again and again. I think this series is so good. Especially Felix & Maggie and Sunny & Charmaine. Though some part must be boring, overall it is pretty good. Somehow, I like the scenes in which Sunny and Charmaine share together. I think their love story is very cute.

Charmaine really ruined it for me. Also this series can't compare to the other Jin Yong epics imo.

For example remake of the proud of twins was a series in the 80's starring Tony leung as sui yei yei. Remake of heaven swordn dragon sabre for 3 freaken time ahhahah
80 2000 n 2004 hhahaha

The first is from Adam back from the late 70s
Second is Tony in the 80s
Third is late 90s from Ng Kai Wah (dunno his eng name)

There's a gab from 10yrs between those remakes, nothing wrong with it. Ppl love to watch those stories over and over again.

Flying fox isn't so popular, that's why there are only 2 version from TVB and none from cn or tw.

Well China are even worse with the remakes now it seems. There was a China Yi Tian in 2003 or 2004 and they already have another scheduled for 2007... I mean there isn't even a new generation of actors to take over... most of the actors could probably reprise their roles and most would look about the same.

Actually, this is the topic for Flying Fox right? But I dunno why it got into another ancient series. ' Anyway, I think they could actually make it a better series if they used the original plot and characters, maybe they wanted to reduce the cost and this is what happens.

I doubt there would be a remake for this series. I haven't read the novel so I don't know how it's suppose to go. I just find Wu Fei to be weak. He's just not an ideal hero like people says he is. I don't remember anything great he did in the series.

I liked Eddie the best (even though Tin Guai Nung was a jerk)! He was very good in his role! I hated Annabelle the most! She was horrible! She wouldn't stop talking and had exaggeratted hand and facial expressession; she annoyed the hell out of me, even though she killed herself to save Sunny!

I agree with you. This one is the most worse one from Louis Cha... (beside those one book novels). The story isn't attractive and also not portraying a great hero like the other characters in the other novels.
So, the series also don't get my attention.

this series was alright, charmaine acting wasn't really good. i didn't like her at first, but after a few series, she's improve alot. now she's one of my favorite actress.

this series was only good at the start with Maggie and Felix and then the scene where Joyce finds her husband dead, and when she dies. everything else was just okay.

I love this serie a lot! This was the first serie i ever watch of Charm. Even though she wasn't as good as she is right now, i still love seeing her with sunny! Back then Sunny was cute and manly. They were really cute together, they had very good onscreen chemistry in here and also in DIV 4. They were really cute together, no wonder there were rumors of them being a couple.

BTW, is this serie out in dvd yet? For viet ppl that is.

i loved this story, it was great I wish tvb would remake it like all those other well known story plot. But recently the make a new one from china or tawain call "Fox Volant Of The Snowy Mountain (Ep.1-40)". Which is the same story but with different title to it. But this one they have the one of the twins singer, Gillian Chung. Too bad it's only in maderin right now. Hope they will have cantonese for it soon

Apparently it was her second series. Her first was the one with Felix Wong and Monica Chan.

i said that the first few episode with felix and meggie have some enjoyable moments. later the series seem to change alot from the novel. views have complain about the Charmaine rape scene, seem to a copy cat from LOCH.
