Emperor Motion Pictures' 2004 summer blockbuster "The Huadu Chronicles: Blade Of The Rose", is now in production. It follows the company's smash hit "The Twins Effect", the number one local film at the Hong Kong box office in 2003.

The film boasts an all-star cast of top performers from Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. These include Charlene Choi and Gillian Chung (known collectively as "Twins"), Jaycee Chan, Chen Po-lin , Edison Chen, Fan Bing-bing, Qu Ying, the two internationally renowned action actors Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen, and Hong Kong's top leading men Tony Leung Ka-fai and Daniel Wu.

At HK$80,000,000 (US$10.2m), the production budget of "The Huadu Chronicles: Blade Of The Rose" is much more than that of "The Twins Effect". The background of the story is also totally different from the company's previous hit. It tells the epic tale of a young prince's dangerous journey through the mythical land of Huadu, and of how he finally leads an army against the forces of the tyrannical Empress.

The movie employs the talents of Menfond, the company that won Best Special Effects prize at both the 40th Golden Horse Awards and the 23rd Hong Kong Film Awards. Menfond specializes in designing spectacular visual effects to complement Asian style action.

"Blade Of The Rose" sees veteran action director Cory Yuen arrange a stunning martial arts duel between kung fu legends Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen.


Synopsis
This tale is set in Huadu, an ancient land ruled by a cruel empress (Qu Ying), a place where men are subservient to women. The empress' reign is disturbed by a prophecy saying a boy will rise to become king, and restore the male regime.

Char (Jaycee Chan), a humble boy, is born to be emperor. He and his adopted brother, Leaf (Chen Po-lin), perform in a traveling show run by their adopted father, Blackwood (Tony Leung). Thanks to their friend, Lao (Edison Chen), the pair receive a stone with a map engraved on it. They set out on a quest for the treasure that the map is supposed to reveal.

Two lovely yet lethal female warriors, Blue (Gillian Chung) and Spring (Charlene Choi), join the boys on their journey. The youngsters encounter various challenges before they meet General Lone (Donnie Yen), a master swordsman who seeks to overthrow the empire. To do so he must first duel the Lord Of Armour (Jackie Chan)¡K.

Aww... the poster doenst really look anywhere like the the first one.. i hope the second will live up to the first one or else I would be very dissappointed.

it hasn't been released yet but apparently the story has nothing to do with the first one and everyone is playing someone different and Edison has a minor role like a guest star.

If the second movie has nothing to do with the first one then why on earth do they call it twins effect 2??? It just doesnt make any sense.

They can call it whatever they like, they can link it because of the meaning of the name, not necessarily because they are proper sequels that continue off from each other. I've yet to see people boycott the Final Fantasy series due to the weird naming.

The first one wasn't that bad I suppose, though they could have done with a bit more plot. Let's hope this one has a better storyline, I don't think they'll be able to pull it off again if they don't produce anything people find engrossing.

my theory on the title...they prolly wanted to 'borrow' the original name just to attract attention, since Twins Effect did so well at the box office.

the poster looks incredibly dumb. i dunno why, but to me it looks like Chinese people trying to do a western cowboy movie. that mountain in the background reminds me of the Grand Canyon...

i only watched the first one, but people asked the main character of this story, and they say that it's more interesing about the first one.

Well...technically, the title is The Huada Chronicals: Blade the Rose...so it's not REALLY tte2, it was just known as that before it had it's official name. Anyway, Twins are in it and yeah, linking it to TTE is actually a smart move since TTE did so well.

Anyway, I think this movie has the ability to appeal to audiences in mainland china more then the first one because it is set in ancient times and in Yunnan...

I am looking forward to this movie. Daniel Wu is in it! And of course Twins la XD And Tong Leung! Don't blame the movie for Edison having a small role, it was due to his busy schedule.

The fighting sequences look good. Gillian is the female lead in here I think, she has more fight scenes then Sa. Sa is more of a comedic character. She has some fight scenes though... The storyline seems pretty good though a bit confusing. Sa and Chen Bo-Lin looks like they have good chemistry together!

Basically, it has pretty much nothing to do with the first one, except maybe a connection to the supernatural. Which I don't mind, cause the first one had a horrible plotline. You can all say it was good, but that's only cause the twins were in it and they're just so darn cute. Not much else was good about the movie, except for decent action sequences... Except for the end, that was just overdone...

Women rule, but there's a prophecy of males returning to power. Ah Sa is a man hunter/slave trader and Ah Gill is an agent of the empress. For some reason they work with two other boys who are from some theatre troupe to fulfill the prophecy or something. Then there's some other subplot with Jackie Chan. (He's 50, stop expecting action star godliness from him!)

It's not entirely accurate, but it gives you a very general gist.

Why dont Ekin act in this movie?

hope this is good. Like Twins Effect 1, it was not the most cerebral movie but was a fun movie especially the little time Jacky Chan was on.

the 1st wasn't really good to me. hopefully the 2nd one will be a little better.

It will be as good as the first one I think!! The first one wasn't that interesting but better than others hk movies

I feel so disppointed that no1 that is really cute is in the movie. If there is cute guys but then they have a very small part. -sadness- And Jaycee iono.. his looks already make the movie look kinda bad... ^i agree with you, gossip80. and also, edison was a main character in the first movie...so it would have been better and made more sense if he was also a main character in the second one, instead of Jaycee.
