Witness to a Prosecution II

STORYLINE:
The story starts of when Sung Chi (Bobby Ouyang) goes to the palace to recieve his title of Chief Coroner. Both his wives (as in part 1), Tang Shi and Nie Feung, follow him there. On the way back, however, they are both killed in a fire set by a vengeful arsonist. Sung Chi becomes very depressed and tries to end his life by jumping into the sea. He survives and ends up in Songshan County where he meets new people and this is where the story continues.

He makes new friends with Ruan Yui Zhu (Charmaine Sheh), Zhou Zhi Long (Stephen Au), Yang Dan Feung (Joyce Tang) and a few more characters. He also makes a few enemies: Ruan Yui Bao (Halina Tam), half-sister of Yui Zhu, and the Princess Zhi Xia (Jay Lau). Along the way, there are many cases which he manages to solve. He also makes Zhi Long his disciple.

Yui Zhu is in love with Sung Chi but the latter still cannot forget his dead wives. Zhi Long has a crush on the hypocritical Yui Bao. However, she does not like him and also makes use of him to commit crimes. In the end, Zhi Long falls for Dan Feung. Sung Chi only starts to have feelings for Yui Zhu when the latter is accused of murder. After she is acquitted, Sung Chi leaves Songshan County. Yui Zhu goes to look for him.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE SERIES:
The love story between Bobby and Charmaine sucked. TVB is merely trying to bring these two jinxes together. It was also a convenient way to omit the two actresses (Jessica and Marianne) who made the first series such a hit. Face it, there was very little or no chemistry between Bobby and Charmaine compared to the first part with his two wives.

The last case was rather draggy... over 4 episodes long. As the first few cases take a average of 1 episode to solve, the last one almost made me smash my TV set!!! Also, with reference to the first few cases, some seemed way too short with Bobby was solving them in like, 15 minutes? The time spent was inappropriate for the cases.

However, there were some good points in the show which I would like to bring up. Scenes with Bobby and Stephen cracked me up, especially those where Bobby would use his disciple as a guinea pig in his experiments. Also, Stephen was an unpredictable character and he had better chemistry with Bobby than Charmaine. Without him, I doubt the series would have been successful.

Though draggy, the last case was the most exciting. I couldn't tell which side Stephen was on, the Princess or Bobby's. With a twist, he could seemingly double-cross both parties. Also, one question is still bothers me: Did he really rape Joyce?

My favourite case is the second-last one, where Halina murdered her husband with the help of her brother-in-law. It was quite ingenious, using only spices as the murder weapons. No one could have dreamed that a combination of 3 harmless spices: Ylang Ylang, Pechiolli and Yidosan could be so deadly (except Sung Chi). She also used Stephen as an alibi to cover up her act of arson. Very well-planned indeed. Of course, she got her just desserts in the end. Congrats to TVB.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE CAST:
Bobby Ouyang: He was the same as in part 1; nothing special.

Charmaine Sheh: A big improvement since Seven Sisters. Her character still lacked chemistry with Bobby's. On the whole, still acceptable.

Stephen Au: Excellent. Though a supporting role, he still brought out the best in his character. He was very unpredictable towards the end, but very funny in the beginning. I enjoyed his scenes with Bobby best.

Joyce Tang: Good, solid performance. Her love story with Stephen was a little better than Bobby's with Charmaine. I liked the scene where she was giving Stephen a haircut. Towards the end, I felt really sorry for her as Stephen instigated her to betray Charmaine, her best friend. However, all's well that ends well as her betrayal was only a plot to trick the Princess.

Halina Tam: Not bad for a newcomer. Her acting is still a bit raw; that can be worked on.

Jay Lau: She marks her return to TVB with her portrayal of the evil Princess Zhi Xia, wanting to exact revenge on Sung Chi. Her acting was very convincing and real. I haven't seen her since Working Women and her performance was much better here than in the former series.

On the whole, a good series, but not worthy of its predecessor. The first part was miles better. Unless you have watched the first Witness to a Prosecution, I recommend you not to watch this series yet. This way, you can compare the differences better.

this is part 2, yeah??...it's quite nice...i really thought that stephen au turned evil but he's actually helping bobby, wasn't it...joyce tang did a wonderful job...i like the way she cares for stephen au...how did stephen get together with charmaine??...and the ending was kind of sweet...because bobby left charmaine because he thinks he's a bad luck star and everyone who's close to him will die...but at the end, charmaine went to look for him and they're finally together...happy ending~~...

I saw Witness to a Prosecution II about 2 years ago but I did not like the drama as much as the first series. The first series' storyline was more refreshing and the cast was better.

I like the cases in WTAP2, cos it resolves within 2 eps. It's weird to see Bobby and charmaine pair up, but overall I like series.

Oh this storyline was just masterful. I just like how Charmaine was like that violent little girl. She just doesn't seem to really fit the role. Like the sweet innocent roles are more her thing

Even though this is a serious show - there are so many bits that are so funny and entertaining - eg the time when the bun was poison by the needle and Charmaine put it in the mouth and then to solve it was so funny. Its not as good as the first but its better than most sequles to other series

Main Characters:
Sung Chi -- Bobby Au Yeung
Ah Choong -- Stephen Au
Kit Siu -- Ellesmere Choi
Yun Yuk Zhu - Charmaine Sheh
Sen Fung - Joyce Tang Lai Ming

What, when, where and who
As the follow up from the first Witness to A Prosecution, Bobby acts as Sung Chi, who is the only cast from the original Witness series, his two wives (Jessica and Mariane) were both died in the very first five minute of the Witness II series.. Bobby was certain that he caused the death of his two wives, when he was really disappointing and wishing to end his life, he met Charmaine and Stephen. Charmaine is also a girl with lots of bad luck, Stephen is a very lazy guy, who has a nick name "lazy warm", he actually changed because he learned so much from Bobby. Bobby also accept Stephen as his student, at the same time, Bobby and Charmaine has feelings toward each other, but Bobby afraid he will curse Charmaine, so he hides his feelings.. Joyce is Charmaine's best friend, who is in love with Stephen.

The story goes on as many cases happened one after another, Stephen and Bobby work together to solve each cases until the very last case, where Stephen changed to a completely different person in order to save Charmaine and Bobby...

Spcnet Review

THE FACTORS
- Hate Factor
Halina Tam Siu Wan
Not only the fact that her character is very bad! Halina's performance is even worse! I hated how she uses Stephen to accomplish her goals! She truly deserves her ending!

- Love Factor
Stephen Au
I really like this guy! Ever since Burning Flame II, I begin to notice his performances, he is truly great! In this series, you get to see the many changes come out from him, from a lazy guy to a very educational person, and even evil towards the end. But, you can't blame him, he just pretends to be evil to save Bobby and Charmaine! What a great character!

- The Chemistry
Bobby and Charmaine has the worst chemistry you can ever imagine! I guess it is the age thing, they just don't seem to fit on screen. How come the tvb producers pair them up together? Their love story also kind of sucked...

The chemistry between the Bobby and Stephen
As the master and the student, Bobby and Stephen are great! You will love all the parts they share together, examining bodies together!

- How Come Factor
How did Bobby recover so quick after his two wives were both died? It seems like nothing has happened!

I still have trouble understanding the last case, where Stephen pretends to be bad to save Bobby and Charmaine. When did Bobby actually know Stephen is pretending to be bad? I didn't get it!

Best Scenes
Here comes the list:
1. Everytime, Bobby uses Stephen as his "lab tool", really funny!
2. All the cases, because it is interesting and educating
3. Everytime Bobby finally accept Stephen as his student

THE COMMENTS
- The Performances
Stephen Au is the best, you got to see his performance no matter what! His character is very enjoyable, and also hard to predict. He is the one has the most interesting outcomes than the others. Bobby was just as normal, but not as funny as the other series he was in. Charmaine is still the same, nothing worse, nothing better. Joyce was pretty good as well, I loved the chemistry between her and Stephen

- The Storyline
Sometimes, the story gets really stupid and the it seems like the characters has nothing else to do. But, sometimes, the story gets really interesting as the cases are being examined. The good thing is that the producers mix the stupid and the exciting parts together, so you will feel average, or pretty good about the series. It's kind of balancing out really well...

- Worth Renting?
Whiteness II has it's unique way of presenting all the cases, thanks to the tvb script writers, who did an awesome job for writing the cases, they keep the cases sample, short but interesting. Unlike DIF series, or some other police drama, the cases are very long, and dragging you from here to there then from there to here... Witness II cover about one or two cases per episode, I guess you can say it is a good length for a case. Plus, all of them are educational... If you are into solving cases, or learn something about dead bodies, you must see it!

Overall, it was not a bad series, especially towards the end when you could not tell which side is Stephen actually on... it also feels really short because everything happens so fast... However, compare to the first Witness series, I like the first one a lot more better, because the first one has much better love story going on...

An old series but a great one. I actually enjoyed both part 1 & 2 of this series. Bobby was fantastic in both series as to most of his series that i've watched, but his character in this series was fab. love how he worked with corpses and finding their reasoning of death. Stephen Au was ok, just did got annoyed at his character at the point of time when i thought he actually did became evil. Charmaine and Joyce were great too, but just thought that it looked weird when Bobby and Charmaine got together. Didn't really look like a great couple, or maybe it was the age difference that you can see between them.

If i was to choose between part 1 & 2, i'd say part 1 was much better. especially how Bobby ended up with two wives. didn't have to choose, just get both! they looked so happy at the end.

i love this series. i like mystery solving cases. similar to justic pao. it's so sad for charmaine at the beginning. one of the cute part where i recall is when bobby was trying out the scent incense in which makes a person feel inlove or sexually, and charmaine was there with him and he thought that it was the real scent and they accidently kiss, making bobby think that it was the scent that makes him do that. then after, somebody came and told them that it wasn't the right one it was just regular incense. this part is so cute, charmaine finally see that bobby was actually deeply inlove with her for real. it was one of the best part in the movies....it is cute.

I like this part better than part 1. Yes, part 1 had more comedy, etc but I didn't like it like totally since Jessica's character irks me on different levels towards the end with how he didn't trust him anymore. But Marianne is awesome in there. And the fact that Marianne's father irks me to death. And what's with that one dude's wife always so annoying and gossips all the time. Only thought Michael Tse and May Kwong were a cute pairing. (I honestly like Bobby w/ both Jessica & Marianne - just not Jessica's character towads the end so don't jump on me for this.) And also the whole annoying thing w/ Eileen being so manipulative and stuffs towards Bobby and how Bobby didn't get accepted until later. There were more cases in part 2, which I like. Didn't realized that Bobby and Charmaine would match so that was a surprised. And also, love Stephen & Joyce. What I hate was the ending. I mean I like it that it ended that way, but I hate that it was soooo rush that it wasn't clear cut if Stephen was greedy for real but turn back a bit later or was he actually putting the whole thing on ? It wasn't that clear although they did say it in flashback and I want to believe it but it was so clear so viewers might take it the wrong way. *shrugs*

Part 1 was way better than part 2. i like the series but i hate part 2 though. i loved Stephen and Joyce in here. It would have been better if Charmaine wasn't in here and they still kept the two wives alive.
