Yahoo! News Chinese actor Hu Ge has the smash hit drama series Chinese Paladin (based on the popular RPG video game series The Legend of Sword and Fairy) to thank for his ascent to fame, and he knows it. In an overseas phone interview, he poignantly said, "Without Chinese Paladin, there will not be Hu Ge." He shared that he was particularly happy and touched at the stellar ratings and praises showered on the second installment of the serial, Chinese Paladin 3. He was also the lead actor in the first show, Chinese Paladin. The 27-year-old laughed when he recalled the difficulties he had in 2005 filming Chinese Paladin 1. Still a student back then, Hu Ge was under a lot of pressure and was often rebuked by the director. Unlike the past, he knows how to better exercise his capabilities to its full potential and communicates better with people now. Given his strong background in period drama, the actor easily shared that Linghu Chong from Louis Cha's wuxia novel, Laughing In The Wind was his favourite martial arts figure. However, when asked if he was keen on acting as the character, he said, "It has been shot so many times. Will people be keen to watch it still?" "A lot of things require a force of inertia. Because I have garnered some results from filming period dramas, people will continue to invite you to act in them. I definitely hope to get the chance to try out different fields." Unlike his peers, Hu Ge has a different outlook on undertaking idol drama series. "If it is about only a handsome man falling in love with a pretty woman, singing songs and dancing, that would be pointless. If the story and characters in the show have some substance, I will accept the role." The boyish actor confessed that he seldom watches idol drama series and has only seen a few acted by Taiwanese actress, Ariel Lin. "That is because I know her better" The pair have collaborated as onscreen lovers in Fairy From Wonderland and The Legend of The Condor Heroes. Hu Ge jokingly commented on his future chances of acting in an idol drama series with the latter and said, "I would have to act as her father!" Chinese Paladin 3 will air on mio TV's Ch310 starting Nov 15. |

I think it is super cute that Hu Ge watches Ariel's drama!
Hopefully Ariel does the same ...acting as her father? He looks way too young to act as her father! |

I love Hu Ge and Ariel pairing too! They are so adorable together in Tian Wai fei Xian and LOCH 08.
They should do a collaboration for a modern drama, but I don't want Hu Ge to act as Ariel's father =D There have been several remakes of Xiao Ao Jiang Hu, but if he were to act as Linghu Chong for another remake, I would still watch it again for him =) |

Oh my gosh is that Hu Ge in the photo? He looked so different. So, when are we getting an Ariel and Hu Ge modern drama? They did say several times that they would like to work together on one. If not a modern drama, maybe one set in early 20th century China. They'd look fantastic in the outfits ... and naturally, great acting from both of them. still dreaming ...

Not very surprising LOL But I hope they don't act in a modern drama, it seems that Hu Ge only acts in those types of dramas. Looking at the picture, I swear that wasn't Hu Ge. He has so much potential to be in an idol drama. Being Ariel's dad would be funny, but he has to compete with Joe. Omg, a drama with Joe and Hu Ge as fathers fighting for Ariel, I wonder what the storyline would be!

I'm kind of glad that Hu Ge chooses not to act in an idol drama with little substance. He's wise to choose films that give him more "meat." There are so many pointless idol dramas out there. Sure, they boost you to fame but the main guy just has to look hot and that's about it. Hu Ge is a waaay better actor than that. He is so much more than just eye candy. Way to go, Hu Ge!!! No wonder he's one of my fave asian actors!!! *clap clap*

haha i always loved hu ge and he & ariel make a good pair
i like how he said he wants to choose something with 'substance' but i would definitely love to see him do a modern drama sometime. it doesnt necessarily have to be an idol drama, can even be like a chinese series or something.. but yeah i think he would do well! cuz as much as i love his trad series, i dont want him to be stereotyped to that kinda role if u know what i mean XD |

period drama? shouldnt that be translated to ancient/costume dramas because he is mostly seen in costume ancient wuxia drama...
but w.e anyways... moving from her lover to her BF in just 3 drama would be a huge leap maybe he could pull it off who knows... some dramas has young actors playing parents of idol actors just as long as they put on a beard and call it a day |

Hu Ge is so shuai in that pic, although almost not recongnizable, but way too hot. I was gawking
Anyway, I would love to see Ariel and him together on screen again, they're so cute. And it's true I would like to see Gege in some modern dramas as well, and I am happy that he refused to act in idol dramas without substance, but then again I would love to see him in an idol drama, of course one with an amazing unique storyline. After all I like Happy Ends |
