Monday June 8, 2009 Hong Kong

Miss Hong Kong's slogan has always been "Beautiful and Intelligent". But earlier the girls that turned up for the auditions were below standard. Apple Daily received an English e-mail from a contestant that attended the first interview named Lucy. She stated that the judges treated her poorly. The judges suggested her English was below standard which she found unfair. In the email she used the words "Hurt Die Me". The Co-ordinating manager for the pageant Chan Ka Yeung denied and said "Definitley not, the company will always pay attention to courtesy. Perhaps the contestant didn't get through the next round and was unhappy about it."
TVB executive Virginia Lok also denied treating the contestants poorly. She said "6 Contestants are grouped together to face the judges in the first interview. Normally we just ask them very general questions such as "Why do you want to enter Miss Hong Kong?" and "Which part of your body do you like most or dislike? We will see what reaction and answers they give us. Perhaps the contestant was too nervous."

The Contestant's e-mail contained a lot of Hong Kong English (港式英語),
[color="#0000FF"]我 是 Lucy, I went to Miss Hong Kong first interview. Wah d judges very not polite and not nice law. Today I see a megazine saying this year's Girls so ugly. she should stop adding the chinese to it if its written in english -.- for example the "law, wor, la" etc she has to stop using them. Also her sentences don't really make sense like its supose to. Also when in the e-mail it said "hurt die me" it didn't even make sense. The judges are right her English is bad.

but if this is suppose to be a complain letter, shouldnt she be more formal
using such slang and online language showed how immature and stupid she is

95% of that bs is like.... is that suppose to be some chinglish slang words?
If she think beauty pageant is all about the outer look... well, she's wrong...
apparently, she "might" be pretty, but her inner beauty is not-so-great.
one word to describe her: naive (i hope she know what's naive).

If the interviewers really told her to continue studying... I agree. It's for her own good actually, since not a lot of Miss HK contestants make it big in the entertainment industry. May as well keep studying, go to college, improve her English, and maybe get a good job afterwards.

The reason they ask her about why she chose not to continue her education is merely for understanding the contestant as an individual and to decide if this contestant even has a good goal in life. It's absurd that she thinks that they're criticizing her for that. If so, then all the past Miss HK would have been bawling.
The point of Miss Hong Kong is to present, beauty, elegance and intelligence. Just by this very letter alone, she already killed the requirements of elegance and intelligence. I bet the reporters only published this to mock said contestant for her courageous attempt to retaliate for not being selected.

'Hurt Die Me' reading her letter LoL
Yup it's better for her to go back studying as well as improving her English. People will then take her more seriously instead of treating her like a joke

Think the judge is doing the right thing to fail her!
But whether the judges can be rude is another question, they should at least speak to the contestants nicely!

And it isn't exactly smart of her to write a complaint in Chinglish, especially since her English is not understandable! She should have just stuck to Chinese.. but it doesn't really look like a complaint letter, it's so informal it looks more like something she'd blogged.

i know friends who type sort of like that with each sentence ending in "la" cause they think its cute...LOL
i think she should go back to school instead of taking the easy way out in life, get it out of her head that getting famous = money

she should've also written a more formal letter.
but by the looks of it, the judges were right.
she has nothing to actually complain about.

Enough said, her letter proved the whole point of the reason why she was kicked out at the first round !!! Not only can she not string a basic english sentence together, but its seems she has a big head too.
My cousin spells like that too......terrible, how the hell is anyone able to read that.
