The most renowned mythical novel in China, "Journey to the West", as is also known as "Monkey King", will have another new versioned TV series among its many TV incarnations.

While director Zhang Jizhong's version has been in pre-production for nearly two years, it seems less-famed director Cheng Lidong will put out a Monkey King TV series earlier than him.

The 28-part show started filming at the end of last month, with a series of promotional photos being released on Sunday.

Hong Kong starlet Victor Chen, younger brother of singer Kelly Chen, plays the part of Monk Xuanzang and Peking opera actor Fei Yang is cast as the Monkey King Sun Wukong.

The production is a joint venture of Zhengjiang Yongle Film and TV Company and actress Fan Bingbing's studio, said Mu Xiaoguang, Fan's manager and producer of the drama.

The series is scheduled to be shot in eight months.

I loved this story. I had seen almost all versions of it. I guess a new version should be okay. Can't wait to see this...hope it'll be good...I think the only bad version that I've seen so far is
the Japanese live action version, Saiyuki (It's a movie), where Sun Wukong can't even fight.

I love this story, but I like the one for really oldest one when I was little kid, it was really good.

i dont know about others but I am really tired of remakes...can't people come out with something new, original and fresh....

"Journey to the West" is a very good story but lately asian media has been doing it over and over again. It gets even more boring when they add all those stupid effect and the fancy wardrobe. Now, they are also giving all those romance scenario into it that didn't exist. I would like an America version doing one of it, that will be nice if they can put it into American TV. Anyway, that is just a hope.

what is this now, monkey king 56 ?!? i understand the whole lengendary story bit, but this is getting out of hand, how many time does this have to be done and re-done

I hope this one is good ... it's kinda hard to top Dicky Cheungs performance in Monkey King. I grew up learning that he is the face of Sun WuKong. I'm pretty sure this modern series might have the advantage of a lot more CGI tho, which might take away from the actual performance. We'll see ...

um that monk look well evil...anyway now there's gonna be 2 new version from on this director and another from zhang Jizhong as well...ash why can't they make a different series..one new version is enough for now. just hope they didn't add in stupid love twist like the monkey king 2000..it's so off and wrong.

Ugh, my family is obsessed with the old version of this show. I can't stand it because of the really bad English dubbing (it's sickening, really), but I'd love to watch it with the original audio.

It never gets old. I love this serie also. I look forward to watching it. kelly's brother is really in here. Victor haven't seen him in a long time.

I totally agree. argh, why can't they just show the originals and just let it be. There's enough remakes, just stop already. It's never enough for these directors and producers, they are all running out of ideas. It's frustrating to hear that they're going to make one remake after another.

This doesn't even look promising. They'll probably throw in a lot of crap into this new remake along with crazy special effects and shy away from the original.

CCTV 1986 version is the best.

Kelly Chen's brother in China Series ?? Didn't know he can act as well ...

I believe there are too many monkey king series in the market making people lost appetite on it...

i wish they only have the dicky cheung version. after that non of the monkey king is nice to watch.
