The casts from the movie <Everlasting Regret> directed by Stanley Kwan, starring Sammi Cheng, Tony Leung, Daniel Wu, Hu Jun, etc has confirmed their attendance at the 62nd Venice Film Festival from 6th to 10th September. However, today, there are news that the authorities in China found some sensitive issues regarding the Cultural Revolution in the movie and requested Stanley Kwan to "cut" out the sensitive scenes or else the movie will not be allowed to attend the Venice Film Festival. As long as the movie is not "cut", all the people involved in the movie including the director, actors and actresses will be blacklisted. When Stanley Kwan was asked about this recent event, he said that the film is already in the process of being trimmed down and it is a normal procedure. The final report will be out in 1-2 days. When reporters asked if he is worried, he said he can't be worried too much and just have to rush to get it done.
The authorities in China were not very happy of the sensitive issues being brought up on the Cultural Revolution and also how the movie portrays as life being very good before 1949 but gotten worse after that.

China is one damn frigging sensitive; it's not even funny.
They even blacklist Brad Pitt because he filmed "Seven Day in Tibet".

Well, Communism overall is not a bad theory. Especially for China. Considering the huge population, it needs people to unify. And, with so many different opinions going on, they need something to stabilize and order all of them. Hopefully, Communism will be a phase that will pass.

the movie just won't be the same if they cut a lot out ... there's gonna be missing meanings because a scene can give so much meaning.

even counting the alleged disasters of the great leap forward and the cultural revolution, to say that things were "better" before 1949 is very ignorant of the most widely accepted scholarship on china, especially outside of the ideolgically anti-communist US. most respected "china scholars" worldwide, including those who are "anti-mao" like jonathan spence, would not be so obtuse as to make such a simplistic and unnuanced claim.
none of this is to condone the current censorship in question, of course.
