Gangsters planning to teach Edison Chen a lesson over racy photos: report




HONG KONG media reports said gangsters are supposedly planning to teach Edison Chen a lesson or kill him over the celebrity sex-photo scandal.
Chen, 27, is expected to return from the United States to Hong Kong and face the media on Sunday, said Mavis Leung, his spokesman, who declined to elaborate.

Organised crime has long played an important role in Hong Kong's entertainment industry. The current scandal has led Hong Kong tabloids to run reports in the last several days of supposed plans by gangsters to 'teach a lesson' to Chen and perhaps even kill him.

Chen's travel plans have been shrouded in secrecy, but Sudden Weekly said he may fly first to Japan, where he would board a Hong Kong-bound private plane owned by Media Asia studio head Peter Lam.

Mr Lam, who is also the owner of Chen's management company, said it was up to the actor to decide whether to quit showbiz after the scandal.

He described Chen as a 'kid' and urged the public to give him a chance to explain what had happened and let him 'get back on his feet again'.

Sudden Weekly tabloid said the racy photo scandal is said to have started because the actor's businessman father was in debt.

It said that after Chen took his laptop to be serviced in 2006, risque pictures that he allegedly took of women including Twins singer Gillian Chung and actress Cecilia Cheung had been passed around by insiders in the computer industry.

But the photos did not become publicly available until they fell into the hands of his father's creditors and were leaked onto the Net, the report said.

For the others involved in the photo scandal, the fall-out continues.

Cheung's father-in-law, actor Patrick Tse, has denied the latest round of rumours that she has been kicked out of the Tse family.

Chung, who apologised on Monday, will make her first TV appearance since the scandal on a charity show tomorrow. But a Twins concert scheduled for April has been postponed to September.

Meanwhile, the charges against the first man arrested in connection with the scandal was released in court on Friday after the Obscene Articles Tribunal found that the photograph should have been classified as 'indecent' - a lesser offence.

Chung Yik Tin, 29, who was accused of uploading a photograph showing someone resembling Chung, half naked and spreading her legs on a bed, was initially charged and refused bail for publishing an obscene photograph.

Police have arrested nine people in connection with photographs and videos on the Internet over the last two weeks.

Three suspects have been formally charged, including a 24-year-old man in Kowloon who was charged on Tuesday with publishing obscene materials. after he was said to have posted 100 photos.

He did not enter a plea and was freed on bail of HK$10,000.

Some Web users in Hong Kong see the police action as an infringement on individual freedoms. They held a protest last Sunday, arguing, among other things, that Hong Kong's anti-pornography ordinance is too broad and too vague, and that this is a case of unequal treatment.

'On the Internet there are a lot of nude pictures and sexy photos, but the police don't bring charges' except in the current case involving the singers,' said Oiwan Lam, a local blogger who participated in the demonstration and edits inmediahk.net, a citizen-reporter Web site.


HK star Edison Chen in suicide bid claim

HONG KONG heartthrob Edison Chen has reportedly attempted suicide after partially nude images of him with several starlets started circulating in the Internet, The Star reported on Tuesday.
In a scandal that has dominated Hong Kong headlines last week, at least 10 suggestive photos posted online seemed to show Chen, singer-actress Gillian Chung, former actress-singer Bobo Chan and actress Cecilia Cheung.

The images are believed to have been copied from Chen's computer when it was serviced at Elite Multi Media Shop in the Central district.

China Press said on Monday that the singer-actor became depressed over the issue and avoided food lately.

He had also reportedly confined himself to his home in the United States, where he fled to after the controversy erupted.

The daily said Chen's image hit rock bottom after the scandal came to light.

Several companies which had sought Chen's endorsement for their products have also terminated their contracts with the star.

Chen had apologised, calling the postings of the photographs 'intentionally hurtful and malicious'.

In a one-minute video statement released to the media through a law firm, the 27-year old urged all who were still in possession of the images to destroy them immediately.

Police arrested six men and two women over the case last week.

A 23-year old man was charged last Tuesday with acessing a computer with criminal or dishonest intent in 2006, said Sing Tao Daily. But he denied he was the source of the photos.

He was released on bail of HK$50,000 (S$9,000) and will go on trial on Feb 22. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison. -- ANN

Edison, I wonder what will happen to him next? All I know is that nobody in the whole world would like to be in his shoes now. I guess all the people in the entertainment industry are angry with him. If at least, he came out to explain in public when the pictures were first leaked out, the impact would have been less worse. Now, I don't think that people would accept him so soon. He's gonna go bankrupt.

this is ridiculous. Ok, he made a mistake and I would never call myself a Edison fan but he doesnt deserve so much of this sh*t. A hit on him for taking pictures for his own collection? If something does happen to him, it is a great injustice. People should stop making these rumors too.

Agreed - Lets say that if this article is true then I think that he certainly doesn't deserve so much of this.
I mean bad comments and criticism is expected and is certain to happen but seriously, why do people want to KILL him because of this?
People are acting as if his mistake is unforgiveable.
I'm no Edison fan either, I don't really like him.

The thing is that because of those pictures, ECG are loosing a lot of money : Gillian, Cecilia, Vincy are their artists + the boss Albert wants some face. A lot of people don't want to see Gillian's face anymore because they say that she's an hypocrite so ECG are loosing a lot of money. I guess that a lot of companies now want some compensation.

Cause he's a man, and he should had made better judgements on his part. Age don't matter too much, cause no matter what age you are, you're make stupid mistakes from time to time. Of course kids will make the most mistakes since they are not fully developed yet and bond to make tons of mistakes.

27 can hardly be considered a kid. gangsters plotting to kill him is taking it a bit too far but edison does have to take responsibility for his own actions. and his apology, in my opinion, didn't even seem sincere. it was so.. technical and scripted.

The sex was consentual. The photos were consentual (anyone who does not think so, please go and LOOK at them and see how all the girls are posing for the camera and giving direct eye contact. You can't miss a flash going off in your face ten times over, right?!).

The company he's under is EEG, and the leader has known contact with triads...Edison has made money under this company and dated Vincy which is the niece...in another way of thinking Edison was trying to establish himself as someone worth Albert Yeung's respect...he made a lot of dough under this company...cockiness and foolishness (if he went around with his macbook watching his videos...then that is foolishness) are leading to his demise and causing EEG money...there's a lot of details that we don't know...I wouldn't surprised if triads are on his case - it is a part of the entertainment business isn't...if you make a living by sketchy means (or if the person you're under makes you famous by that route) surely you'll fall by the sames means...

Your simply heartless if you think he should die just because of a overrated scandal. Despite what he did before, he is still a victim in this case. People often forget the fact that he wasn't even the one that posted these pictures up. These pictures weren't suppose to surface in the first place.

gosh people need to leave him alone already, if he's done nothing to hurt you then you should mind your own business. they are always saying he should take responsibility but i just want to ask what more can he do? should he go out in the street and get down on his knees and beg everyone to forgive him for liking to take photos of him having sex with many girls? when the scandal first came out I was upset at him for being careless enough to leave photos in his laptop and that the lives of the girls involved will be ruined but that's it, his carelessness. yeah he didn't kill anyone, certainly didn't rape anyone.
