Hollywood will continue its tradition of ripping off popular films from other countries after a studio agreed to remake the Hong Kong romantic comedy, "Love Undercover."

Hong Kong director Joe Ma's 2002 smash is about a young policewoman who is picked for an undercover job.

Her assignment is to get close enough to a gangster's son so that she can plant a microphone at a table where the gangsters make their deals. Complications arise when she finds herself falling in love with the son.

The film, featuring Hong Kong actress Miriam Yeung and actor Daniel Wu, became a trilogy.

Miriam Yeung was delighted by the news.

"It proves again Hong Kong films perform well on the market. And I hope the news will attract more investors," she said.

Director Joe Ma has expressed his hope Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore gets the leading role.

Another big Hollywood remake of Hong Kong hit was crime flick "Departed," based on Hong Kong director Wai Keung Lau's awards-winning film "Infernal Affairs."

"The Departed" won Martin Scorsese the 2006 best director Oscar.

hmmmm.... they will probably have to change a lot of the actual jokes if theyd are really 'hk' ones.... otherewise it will be well weird.... but then if they change those it won't be a good remake.... its probably going to be a tough one to remake.... XD

It would be quite interested to watch but Hollywood need to realize that there are many cultural differences between Hong Kong and the USA. I just can't see it as a good film if it were remade with a different environment and thus, changing everything about why the film was so special in the first place. But I guess I'm glad that foreigners are willing to buy Hong Kong films and Miriam Yeung should be proud!

hmmm....interesting but like everyone said there'll be lots changes of because of the difference between cultures. It could end up a good comedy movie for spare time.

Good to hear that Hollywood is remaking this movie. For me Drew isn't the right person for this role but i think Cameron Diaz is right for this role.

When hollywood enters china, the world explodes. I hate the remakes and dubbed movies. Create something original for once!

WOW! I love this movie! It was hilarious! Miriam X Daniel made a great couple!!! XD

Why did they decide to remake this movie? I don't think it would be the same because their will be a lot of differences considering the different environments... I hope it turns out to be as good as the HK version and hope it will be hilarious, too!

I am very excited to see how the Hollywood version would turn out... very interesting! Drew Barrymore is a good actress, too!!!

This was one of the first impressions I had of Miriam, & the reason why I love her so much!!! So happy to hear they decided to remake an Hong Kong movie in which Miriam starred in!!! :thumbsup

The movie was hilarious... but I don't think HK jokes are going to translate well in English.

Wow, I never knew Departed was based on Internal Affairs? Amazing, that nowadays, storylines get picked up worldwide and reproduced into other films.

It's great that hollywood is planning to remake another Hong Kong Movie.. but I doubt they would have that great result with this movie.. I love Love Undercover.. but I am not sure if it would be as great with Drew Barrymore though... Well.. I guess we will have to wait till it comes out to see the result

Another Hollywood remake. I'm happy that they chose Love Undercover because I personally love that movie. But I have a feeling that it won't be as good since Miriam is like the laughing queen. She makes everything even funnier.

Drew Barrymore is definitely the person who should play Miriam's character she's like Hollywood's version of Miriam.

Not really... Hollywood is already re-making what is considered to be the ultimate Korean romantic comedy, My Sassy Girl.

I just hope that the original movie gets exposure the way Infernal Affairs did... a lot of people were exposed to the trilogy because of The Departed, and many of them felt the original was better. When Hollywood re-made the Korean Il Mare into The Lake House, they didn't publicly acknowledge (at least not much) that it was a re-make, much less mention that it was a re-make of a foreign, Asian film.

But award presenters still misread facts about IF, calling it Internal Affairs and saying it's a Japanese movie.

I don't think many people go search out IF after watching TD. Only the movie buffs and HK movies fans did. Also, IF was already well known among HK movie fans in US before TD. I doubt the general public made any the effort to go search out IF after watching TD. What more the director was trying to deny credit to IF saying he never watch IF before when in an earlier interview, he said he love the movie or something.

That's annoying.

I still think a lot of people were exposed to Infernal Affairs, though. I was in college at the time, and almost everyone I knew-- yes, non-Asians-- went ahead and rented or downloaded the trilogy after watching The Departed.

But The Departed is an action film... I have the feeling that romantic comedies and comedies... people won't care at all about the original... particularly if they have to read sub-titles.

IMO...remakes are not as good as the original. A lot of ppl compared Internal Affair with The Departed...and I personally like Internal Affair better.

I've seen other romantic remakes and non of them can compared to the original version (i.e. The Lakehouse vs. Il Mare).

Hollywood's seriously running out of ideas. If it's not sequels or remakes of really old films, it's remakes of foreign stuff. Damn them for not having any originality anymore. my god, that's why I've been boycotting the theaters for years now

Hollywood is seriously running out of ideas, why do they keep on remaking foreign stuff? I mean they dun even give many credits and claim all the stuff as their own. The Departed even got an Oscar for best directing... Omg, is it even worth??

I definitely think it's great that some of the HOng Kong movies are attracting hollywood film makers, at least we know that not all the hong kong movies are crap. I honestly tho don't think remakes are ever as good as the original.

A good movie should be shared worldwide. I think it's a good idea to remake it in another language, but they should tell the public that the movie was a remake from a hk movie so that they don't get all the credit.

Like any business, I think if Hollywood is re-making the movie, they will have to 'culturized' the script to make it for their style. same like the way HK movies remake others movies. Also, different actors and actresses with different presentation all makes the movie a bit different. natural to compare, but will see how it turns out
