The Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild (HKPAG) held an urgent meeting Thursday night to call upon Hong Kong celebrities to look for countermeatures against candid photos taken by paparazzi. Jackie Chan, Eric Tsang, Simon Yam, Stanley Tong and Lawrence Cheng were among the attendees.

The meeting was prompted by an incident involving Gillian Chung, one half of the girl band "Twins," who was snapped while getting changed several days ago.

Lawrence Cheng, the spokesman of the HKPAG, states they are determined to fight against the tabloids. He also hopes the government will intervene since a law that expired 26 years ago is inadequate to contain some unbearable and privacy-intruding behavior by the media.

i dont think its just to help gillian.
what happened to her was just an instigator for this cos many hk artists are getting very annoyed with reporters and how much privacy they invade.

this time they really went too far

i admit, i'm not a fan of twins that much, but for that to happen to her is really evil. no one deserves that kind of treatment, just because they're celebrities doesn't mean you have the right to take photos of them doing something privately such as just changing clothes to get ready for your next performance, this is totally over the line, and a HUGE punishment should be excercised. I'm just glad that everybody's banding together to do something about it

They're doing the right thing by standing up and making a statement as well as telling the government to get off their butts and do something about this matter before it happens to other superstars.

I think this is for every HK celeb. When the tabloids are using long lens to take pics of celebs at home, it has crossed the line. Now they did THIS??!!!! Of course, they have gone too far and people need to step up. One of them is to NOT BUY the tabloids!!!

The Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild held an emergency meeting yesterday to discuss new measures for preventing paparazzi from taking candid photographs. The meeting had been called in the wake of the scandal caused by photographs of 'Twins' actress/singer Gillian Chung getting changed which were taken a few days ago and which have since ended up on the cover of a magazine. Lawrence Cheng, the spokesman of the HKPAG, released a statement that members are determined to fight against the tabloids and that they hope the government will intervene since the law no longer provides adequate protection. Jackie Chan, Eric Tsang, Simon Yam and Stanley Tong were among those who attended the meeting.

yes the government should have a guide line to how far the paparazzi can go, and to set harsh punishment for those who guilty.

I hope it does not only extend to the paparazzi but to the non-paparazzi as well. Hi tech is sometimes misused and there should be laws against someone taking a picture, videocam of peoples private parts (differetnt for those who consented of course).

QUOTE(julie510 @ Aug 25 2006 12 04 PM)

hi...i lost on Gallian..issue?...can someone please explain clearing..

Hong Kong duo Twins, last week happily went to Malaysia to perform "Twins Around the World Concert". Gillian was backstage changing, and Hong Kong paparazzi took pictures of it, and the pictures were printed yesterday. After Gillian found out, she started to sob, saying how she was so sad since it's the same as being taken pictures of while being in the bathroom.

Last week, Twins was at the concert backstage changing, and Hong Kong paparazzi secretly took pictures, and it was posted on the magazine cover. Gillian was truly hurt, so their company has decided to sue. Gillian yesterday was in mainland China filming, and she braved media interviews. Gillian said: "Then, Charlene and I were in the secret room changing, and there was a lot of closets against the wall, and in there were a lot of things in the closets. Now that I think about it, there must be something wrong with those closets, I suspected that there was some camera lens hidden in there. But before when we inspected the room, but it was unsuccessful. I feel like someone's taken pictures of me while I was in the bathroom."

Seeing Gillian talking and unable to stop crying, Charlene kept comforting her. Gillian kept trying to hold her tears back, and said: "In there room, there were two other girls, becuase I'm shy and afraid of being awkward, whenever I'm changing, I still try to cover up my chest with a towel. The magazine actually made it seem like I wanted to be seen, so they went against the law." Gillian also cried many times because of this, and said it also affected her family. She's even more scared that the pictures will be spread around online endlessly, hoping that her entertainment circle friends and her fans won't treat this as a joke.

Backstage that day, Charlene was standing to Gillian's right, and didn't get taken pictures of. She said: "This is actually pretty painful for a girl. This isn't good at all. We don't sell by showing skin, and this time it's pretty obvious that the pictures were taken intentionally, not like we were on stage and an accident happened, so this is giving us a very bad feeling."
