Huayi Bro. or Sony Music? Question for Jane

Pop singer Jane Zhang may sign with Sony Music to break into the international market. Her three-year contract with China's leading label, Huayi Brothers, expired at the end of 2008, a popular blogger revealed Wednesday.

"Jane Zhang is absolutely an A-lister in China, and Huayi Brothers can't meet her future demands. She needs a vast international stage," wrote the anonymous insider, who claims to be a celebrity manager and entertainment critic. "Sony Music has shown an intense interest in her. The details of the contract are under negotiation."

Yuan Tao, managing director of Huayi Brothers Music, told Sina that they are also negotiating with Zhang about extending the contract, and are expecting an outcome soon.

"Huayi Bros. has maintained a good relationship with Jane," Yuan said, "but business is business."

Jane Zhang, or Zhang Liangying, rocketed to stardom after her third-place finish in the 2005 hit talent show Super Girl, and has since had one of the most successful careers among the contestants. Her third album, "Jane@music" was released in January.

Huayi's movie and drama background undoubtaly played a key part in Jane's success.
RoCH's "The Only" to The Banquet's "Only for Love," and Painted Skin's "Painted Heart" are songs that Jane probably would've never got to sing under another agency, yet it is those songs that has, for a large part, defined heights of Jane's career.

Sony simply doesn't have the same connections movie-wise.

The only plus to Sony would be Wang Leehom.

Unless Sony promises Jane more world-class songwriters that she deserves, she should definitely pick Huayi Bros.

I'm in a dilemma over this myself...

To me, Jane's voice was tailor made for themesongs. Not only is HYBrothers an international company, but this is where they help her thrive in her career. They respect her decisions and pay attention to her wants and needs. They pointblank love her as she does them. I've not seen such a good comeraderie between an artist and her superiors for a while now.

Most companies are just, "You do what we want how we want it or else you've nowhere to go with you're career." I don't think Jane is the type of artist to take that well. She's got a good head on her shoulders, she knows what she wants and how to make it happen not just for herself but for her fans as well. She's a girl with grand ideas and a grand future who shouldn't be used mainly to bring in the $$$. HYBrothers seems to understand and accept this without a qualm. Will Sony, if given the chance???

The thing is, most of the songs that helped raise her to the top ARE themesongs. Not to discredit the producers and composers who wrote her songs with such devotion but to this point they've only done a mediocre job at showcasing her vocal capabilities. (To my way of thinking).

Sony is a global label that has not only Wang Leehom & Wang Lin (TW) but also Leona Lewis & Shane Ward(England) Christina Aguilera & Alicia Keys (U.S.) such examples of artists and the quaility of the music they make, (grammy nominations/wins) do add a lot of worth to a label name.

Added to that, these artists do get a lot more global exposure. They aren't just known in one place or one country.

Whatever the case, Jane knows what's best for herself. Whatever decision she makes, I can only support her.

hy bros has really given her a good amount of movie theme songs and they really do seem to love her.
whatever the decision, I just hope she continues to sing because i absolutely love her voice
