It's the movie that put Jackie Chan in the major league in the U.S., but the Hong Kong star isn't a fan of his successful action comedy franchise "Rush Hour."

Chan said when he made the first installment of the "Rush Hour" series in 1998 he only wanted to test the U.S. market and didn't have high hopes.

"When we finished filming, I felt very disappointed because it was a movie I didn't appreciate and I did not like the action scenes involved. I felt the style of action was too Americanized and I didn't understand the American humor," Chan said in a blog entry on his Web site seen Sunday.

The actor said he made the sequel because he was offered an "irresistible" amount of money to do it and made the third installment, which was released recently, to satisfy fans of the series.

Chan said "Rush Hour 3" was no different from the first two installments for him.

"Nothing particularly exciting stood out that made this movie special for me ... I spent four months making this film and I still don't fully understand the humor," he said, adding the comedic scenes may be lost on Asian audiences as well.

Chan's comments came even though the "Rush Hour" series, which revolves around the racial humor stemming from the pairing of a Chinese (Chan) and a black (Chris Tucker) police officer, helped the action star cross over to mainstream American audiences.

"Rush Hour" was Chan's first movie to break US$100 million (€70.53 million) at the U.S. box office, earning US$141 million (€99.4 million), according to the box office tracking Web site Box Office Mojo. "Rush Hour 2" made US$226 million (€160 million) and "Rush Hour 3" has earned US$137 million (€97 million) so far.

Chan has been known to be blase about his Hollywood work. He said in a 2005 interview with The Associated Press that he uses the high salary he earns in the U.S. to fund Chinese-language projects that he's truly interested in.

He also recently showed little enthusiasm for his latest Hollywood project, "The Forbidden Kingdom," which marks his first on-screen collaboration with fellow action star Jet Li.

"The movie I just shot with Jet Li, 'The Forbidden Kingdom,' actually isn't that great," Chan was quoted as saying by the Web site of China's official Xinhua News Agency.

"'The Forbidden Kingdom' is a movie made for Americans," the report quoted Chan as saying. "Chinese viewers may not like it. If I say it's a good movie now, then many people will be filled with overly high expectations and be disappointed when they see the movie."

Hmm quite surprising. I didn't think hed say that but i guess its very understandable bcuz there are certain things that only americans will understand in the movie. Nonetheless, i think its quite funny tho. They're all quite ok i guess.

That's funny, he's not a fan of his own movie. Maybe he just doesnt understand the humor cause of his limited English. Rush Hour is one of the most hilarious movies I've ever seen

Jackie Chan is very honest, although i think that he's biting the hand that feeds him. Hollywood may not be too pleased with this attitude. There are lots of people dying to break Hollywood but Chan is only interested in the money to fund for his pet projects!

i wish he wouldn't diss his Hollywood projects like this, feel like he is also dissing his fans. i can't stand any of the Rush Hour films though personally, mainly due to Jackie's co-star :P

i realli like the rush hour movies. maybe its becuz i understand the humor.
jackie chan is realli dissing the americans...
if he was tempted by the money....then he should wish for the movie to raking in money. but his attitude of his own movie is doing the opposite...

it's kinda true. rush hour was made for the american audience. it got boring after a while. now they're just milking it by making more sequels. sucks to hear that he didn't like his new movie with jet li. everyone's hopes were up because of this pairing and he just kinda shot it down.

I gotta give props to Jackie for being so honest. Altho I did watch all the rush hour movies but I have to agree that its made for americans. The comedy wasn't that great. I like how he uses the money he makes to fund projects he's actually interested in.

You get the impression Chan doesn't like Hollywood movies that much but i agree with him about Rush Hour, the series is getting a little stale.

Is unbelievable that he said about the series, the 1st one is better than the 2nd. But Jackie is right, the asian audience don't get the american humor.

Well I get what he's saying. He never really enjoyed it since he doesn't understand the fun humour in it. You can't really enjoy something that you don't understand.

Hopefully the rest of hollywood won't get mad at him for dissing his own movie

I have watched his movies (made since 1980) in original audio and undubbed. This is the only way to understand the original contents and not on someone's tranlsation or voice over. In summary, Rush Hours sereis suck. I wish Jet Li will come out and say the same. Jet's original HK movies are much better than his Hollywood versions.

I appreciate Jackie Chan's honesty. It's been known that he's really not that interested in Hollywood. Recently, he's been wanting to go back into China and HK entertainment more because it's just home for him. I love that Jackie is unlike so many other actors who are just clawing for Hollywood fame.

Even though I appreciate that he's being honest...now i really don't want to see his movies...i mean it's kind of sad that he's not a fan of his American movies...obviously it's not going to be the same market...sad, sad, sad

Don't get me wrong about Jackie Chan, I watched his movies and stuff when I was young but I in the recent years my respect for him as an actor are slowly diminishing. Jackie Chan has been in the industry for so long, I would think the man is capable of selecting a project that he was passionate about no matter if he had to dish out money and give it 110%, but instead he chose the easy way out just to make money for a project that he didn't really care for.

Oddly enough -- he goes on to say that the movie that Jet Li and he did "wasn't that great". A great movie or not, the fans and the press were anticipating for those 2 to collaborate on a project together.

---I just felt like he owes it to the fans, since they supported him through all these years.

hmm..its good that his honest even though he is 'biting the hands that feed him' but 'the hands that feed him' are only using him to make not money....its not great that he uses hollywood films to fund chinese-language projects...but the more money one has the more he can do for chinese industry because you have to admit the large majority of HK movies have terrible effects (like that movie with cecilia cheung and leo ku) and the budget for chinese films is so little compared to hollwood films.... but his fans do support him..but i think his trying to please both sectors of his audience- amercian and chinese...and it would be near impossible to please both..so i think he does it one at a movie

Never realize he's not a fan of his own blockbuster movie. I like Rush Hour 1, but 2 & 3 are so-so. Most original sequels are great but not the suceeding ones.

i think that jackie thinks he is better then everyone else now..his attitude has changed. his older movies weren't that great in my opinion and his newer ones are starting to get old just like him... <_<

he takes so many things for granted.

true the chinese might not understand the "jokes" and "punt lines" in rush hour, but if he doesn't like the job, then don't take it...

Although Jackie said he did the films mostly for the money, a lot of it does go to charity, could be a reason why he chooses the project. And its also true, his american movies are not up to par with his HK movies, they are a big step down. Maybe its because he set his bar so high when he was younger with Police Story trilogy, Drunken Master 1 and 2, Snake and Eagle crane, etc. I think anyone who has watched all his old flicks will agree that Rush Hour is nothing compared to them. Most of the HK actors who move to Hollywood to do movies end up making a bunch of bad movies anyways...

Most Chinese films are for Westerners the Chinese would not like, this is because we have seen it all before, like Crouching Tiger Hidden dragon, we have all seen flying, and martial arts with swords. But the Westerns have not. So we don't really think its all that great but its the first time Westerners had, so they prefer it and think its brillant when we have seen it many times before from TVB and others.

what the hell? i totally doubt jackie said those words.. teh original writer for this article must be half asleep to write this all out! This article makes it look like jackie chan had no intention and did NOT enjoy this movie at all.. and i find it hilarious how he 'didn't know any of the jokes ' in this movie.. like what the heck? I saw him in interview shows and he said that he really had a great experience filming this movie, plus he's good friends with chris tucker so that means that filming rush hour movies should be fun for him because he gets to work out with somebody who he likes. Unless, you are telling me that all those interviews, functions, etc were all fake, jackie chan just laughed and smiled when he talked about rush hour movies..and inside he was like "ew gross..this is one of the worst movies i did.." i totally DOUBT THAT.. they were great box offices, and trust me, he did many more american movies out there that are even worse.. like the tuexdo

Some people are saying that if he doesn't like the movies then he shouldn't film it... however, think about it... just because you don't like your job; does it mean you'll stop working?

The guy was offered an ridiculous amount of money to film the sequel... who doesn't like money? Why does it matter so much if he like it or not... as long as he film it, you guys enjoy watching it; then leave it as it is. I swear; people nitpick every single thing nowaday.

Of course he couldn't like it; he himself couldn't even understand the joke. Can you imagine filming a scene and not knowing what the hell you're even saying; yet it's suppose to be funny?

I'm not a major fan of Jackie but he is a legend and he worked pretty damn hard to get to where he is... I find it rude to diss him and said that he's ungrateful because it's not like he's being hand these things on a silver platter. The guy broke almost all the bone in his body and have a freaken hole in his head... let's not call him "taking things for granted" here... I bet most stars and people wouldn't bother to do that.

hmm...my pick on rush hours....esp the 3rd one....watch it for the humour n laughter...the action and storyline sucks big time. and honestly....his action sequence is getting old and boring...u can almost expect when he will jump or dodge or hug a pole n slide down....its time for him to retire if he is complaining the humour side of him film.

Even though i'm a fan of the Rush Hour series, I have to admit that I only like the first 2 parts. The 3rd one was a disappointment. Too repetitive? I don't know. All I know is that, after watching the first part of the movie, I stopped completely.

I liked every part of the series. As long as it makes me laugh, im happy and content. Jackie to say that stuff was a bit of a shock to me. i though he enjoyed doing those movies. Guess i was wrong.
