Another country, another “Hana Yori Dango” remake.

ABS-CBN, a major television network in the Philippines has bagged the rights for the fifth— and as of this writing– current “Hana Yori Dango” remake. If you check the network’s Wikipedia page, listed under the ‘Upcoming Shows: Foreign Adaptation’ is the said drama. But unlike the Korean version which takes after the Japanese dorama, the Philippine remake will follow the “Meteor Garden” format instead.

Aired in 2001, “Meteor Garden” was the first TV adaptation of the “HYD” manga. It became an instant hit all over Asia especially in the Philippines.

This is not the first time the Philippines is remaking a huge Asian drama. Just last year, Filipinos were treated to their own version of popular Korean dramas “My Girl” and “My Lovely Samsoon”. With the success of these remakes, Philippines is set to get more adaptations of Asian (mostly Korean) dramas including “All About Eve”, “Full House”, and if you look closely at that screen cap, you can see “Lovers in Paris” and “Princess Hours” too.

The casting for this new remake is yet to be finalized but the network already listed Sarah Geronimo, a famous actress and singer in her country, to play the role of San Cai/Makino/Jandi.

Taiwan
Japan
Korea
Mainland China
Philippines?

Is India next?

You know what, it would be really cool to see a British version of this story! I'm not even being sarcastic this time. If it came on the channel that broadcasted Skins (E4, right?) and if they made the plotline a bit racier! I would definitely watch it!

You have got to be kidding me... Why, oh why?!
What is the world turning into?!
I mean, come on! ISN'T THERE NEW PLOTS AROUND?!
WHY REMAKE THE SAME SERIES AGAIN AND AGAIN?!
Seriously.
And since it's the Philippines, which I am from, by the way, I don't know what to feel.
I'm pretty sure Sarah Geronimo would do a pretty good job portraying San Cai/Makino/Jandi but alas! What about the F4?!

well at least they are better looking than the chinese version of F4. X__X"
I have to say, the best f4 is probably the taiwanese version and the korean version.

Another remake? is this getting ridiculous and out of hand...China is making a remake and now Philippine?

China is currently in the process of producing and to be filmed and now Philippine is making another one same like china... Meteor Garden format.

As you know...Korean version is currently a hit in Asia now and it is really good and successful like the Japanese and Taiwan version,Japanese Version is also a hit a few years back and Taiwanese version is also a hit few years back then and i dont see the F4 actors for the Philippines is as good as the Korean,Japanese and Taiwan version but they are better than the China F4. :thumbsup

The China and Philippines version can't compare with the Korean,Japanese and Taiwanese version.

Dude, who said that they're gonna compete? My God. They're doing this for Filipinos. They don't really give a damn if Koreans, Japanese or Taiwanese people would hate it.

I've heard this Philippine remake of Meteor Garden a few weeks ago. And I thought this would be the 4th remake after Taiwan's, Japan's and Korea's versions until I've read from AF a few minutes ago that China will also have their version and has to shoot sooner. So Philippine's will be the 5th one who's gonna make the remake.

Anyways, ABS-CBN hasn't confirmed anything about this yet. Although, if you'll gonna search Sarah Geronimo on Wikipedia, Meteor Garden Philippine version is listed as one of her projects for 2009. But then again, no confirmations yet from the said network. And for the Philippine F4...no idea to who's gonna play who. But others like the 'Kanto boys' of ASAP '09 to play the male lead roles. Not that bad though. And I also think it would be cool for them to play the roles.

Well, we'll just hope for the best. I guess SOUTHEAST ASIA is having a 'remake craze' nowadays. :whistle

I guess this is not true..abs-cbn haven't made any announcement about this..the only confirmed korean dramas that abs-cbn will remake are lovers in paris and green rose..most of the dramas that abs-cbn will be remaking are Mexican dramas..

I'm kinda getting tired of all these drama remakes of MG/HYD. Sooner or later the whole world's gonna have their own version. I dont mind like 2-3 different versions but this much is starting to get out of hand and annoying me.

whatever happened to creativity and originality? Seriously. It was a great story and i loved the taiwanese version. Soon it will lose its thunder because it's been overplayed, overused, and copied to the last inkling. I'm a filipina, and I too somewhat feel ashamed that the writers in my country can't think of a story line of their own to turn into an original drama that might want to be copied by other asian countries...

just saying... it'd be great if the Philippines made something that others wanted to copy.

MG is really hit :D But till now, i still like the TW MG :P

okay.. i knew this was coming sooner or later.. an MG Philippine version.. i guess there are only two things why i am not overly disappointed with this news.. first and if it is confirmed already, ABS-CBN is doing it.. they are way more capable of giving justice to Asian remakes than GMA.. second, i like Sarah.. come to think of it.. i can see her portraying the role of SanCai well.. seriously i thought Kim would land the role if ever.. but Sarah is a better choice.. ;)

but that's about it.. i don't see any good with F4.. yeah they are descent actors (i don't know the rightmost guy by the way) but i just don't see them totally creating an F4 vibe Phil. version.. it might appeal to Filipinos but it stops there.. oh well.. like i said.. it is inevitable so might as well leave it as it is.. :whistle

Another remake? i think that after the korean version they should stop because after awhile people are just going to stop watching it because of so many remakes. T-T come on people don't ruin a good thing.

so much remakes that its not getting interesting anymore. Unless they have super cute handsome actors, if not then the first 3 versions will always own. But the taiwan version will always be remembered!

I'm a Filipino Meteor Garden fan but I did not wish for a Filipino version. The Philippines is going to make our own version of the original Hana Yori Dango/Meteor Garden because Filipino fans have asked for it. In fact, due to its "outrageous popularity" in the country, it has been aired again and again in different local tv stations since 2003. Although it is ridiculous, quite honestly, that this is becoming some sort of a craze, I would rather that my country or the network ABS CBN come up with an original tv drama.

I also support Sarah Geronimo. The network would only release information about their projects through their official website http://www.abs-cbn.com/. Wikipedia remains unreliable until ABS confirms it.

If you visit the networks forum website http://forums.abs-cb...ad/2996470.aspx you will see that almost everybody is rooting for Sarah to be the female lead in every Korean drama Philippine remake.

I second the motion.

We really do have plenty of great writers in the Philippines. I don't know why we still need to remake other's series.

What a 'remake craze' really.

eh I think this is overkill...even the Korean version no longer interests me...then there would be 2 more?

But if they really HAVE to do it, I would like Maja Salvador in the role of Shan Cai.

And yes, there are great Filipino dramas...my favorites are Maging Sino Ka Man (Book 1 had 2 EPIC love stories), Pangako Sayo (sindicated to other countries all over the world), Kahit Isang Saglit (co produced with Malaysia)...and Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay (the drama that started the great team up of John Lloyd 'Yuri' Cruz and Bea 'Katrina' Alonzo.)

Meteor Garden is Meteor Garden. i dont want that there would be another Meteor Garden again.
even in the Korean version, i am a bit irritated. >.<
they just keep on re-making the same series all over again.

lol, i agree with a bunch of ya; the male cast of this version looks way better than the Chinese remake (and i'm not biased since i am Chinese). where there are cute boys, cute girls, decent storyline, I will be there watching it, despite its umpteenth remake.

but does anyone think that the guys in this version look...like kids? i'm feeling some pedophile vibes.

What's the point of fans putting subtitle on these dramas if each countries is going to make their own?! C'mon people, just read the subtitles and stick with that! I love Hana Yori Dango, but all these remakes is making me hate it. And like someone else said, if they want to make a drama based on a manga then why not look for a different one. There are tons of manga and manhwa out there that need some loving too!!!

The korean version is not as good anymore...I just can not feel the love between Jun Pyo and Jan Di...It's like they're acting and it's not real. I feel more chemistry between Ee Jung and Ga Eul...that's the only reason why I'm still watching Boys Before Flowers.

daaannng philippines too???? wwwoooooww. I agree with some of you guys things like this make me ashamed of being a filipino (along with the cornyness of our people XD). I think they'll make their version of HYD more dramatic like a soap opera lolz since thats how filipino dramas are usually like lol but, I must say the male cast looks HOT I don't really have a thing for filipino guys (even though I am a filipina XD) but dang they look good!!! the female lead isn't that bad looking either!! they all look good!!

no way!

i don't think it's such a good idea. like the philippine version of my name is kim samsoon, i thought it was really good. and a lot of filipinos ahve been expecting a lot from it, yet at the end it was a disappointment.

Geez ,I checked the pics of the Chinese F4, and Im afraid they're not exactly the F4 I've imagined.
To say that they're "ugly" is just too harsh though. Let's put it this way, they're not very very bad, but unfortunately they aren't very very good looking too.
The Philippine F4 (unofficial) are more lucky in the looks department.

FYI> for people who doesnt know these Philippine MG kids (which is again unofficial):
The girl, Sarah Geronimo, is a top singer/actress/endorser here in the Philippines, she's 20 yrs old.

Rayver Cruz, 1st pic beside Sarah, is an actor and a top dancer, 19 yrs old, picked by fans to play Dao Ming Zhi.

Robi Domingo, 2nd guy pic, is a poduct of a reality tv show here for teens, he's currently a VJ in a local tv station, he's 19 yrs old.

Dino Imperial, 3rd guy pic, he's a commercial model and an actor, he's 20 yrs old.

Don't know who that 4th guy is.
