http://asianfanatics.net/forum ![]() Coming from Taipei, and with a side trip to Hong Kong, Shanghaiist had sort of acclimated to the omnipresent nature of Andy Lau (刘德华). Between his dominance of the Taipei movie channels, his Baleno endorsements, his singing, film producing, and comic-book-and-radio-play starring, a day did not go by when we lacked the opportunity to reflect on the greatness of this man, this myth, this, this … Andy Lau. Shanghai, with the exception of the recent Cyma watch campaign (no permalink, sorry) appeared to be a relatively Andy-Lau free zone. Until Shanghaiist made a trip to have a “small convenience,” to use the Chinese term, and inadvertently ran into our old friend. Which was sort of a first for Shanghaiist. Our toilet came with a celebrity endorsement. But upon further reflection, fellow HK auteur Kelly Chen (陈慧琳) recently graced (perhaps wallpapered would be a more accurate term) Huangpi Nan Lu and Zhongshan Gongyuan metro stops with her spray-toilet endorsements. We are unsure whether this represents a new trend in HK product endorsements, or a personal crusade for Ms. Chen and her fear of “places without toilets.” There are also issues of in-movie product placement to consider. Nonetheless, Shanghaiist is simply happy to learn that any call of nature may become an opportunity to commune with Andy Lau. In a red-blooded, heterosexual male sort of way. |

Puh-lease, I work in Shanghai right now, I've seen Andy posters and promotions, what's the article talking about? Shanghai is not an Andy-free zone.....I would guess that most large Asian cities have a little bit of Andy in them, whether as a poster or...on a toilet seat.
