It’s a sad day when news like this is no longer shocking. There have been way too many celebrity suicides in the past six months.

[우승 연] Woo Seung-yeon, a 24-year-old rookie actress, was found dead on the morning of April 27 at home from an apparent suicide. She had hanged herself in her closet. The suicide is believed to have been triggered by depression.

A family member said on the 28th that she had recently received treatment at a hospital for her depression, but “she couldn’t handle the pain and made an extreme decision.” The relative requested that the deceased be allowed to rest in peace, given the current turmoil of scandals and accidents within the entertainment industry.

Woo Seung-yeon got her start as an internet uljjang, after which she began to model, and then branched out into acting in the movie Herb and the mobile sitcom Yap. Her most recent role was in the Hwang Jung-min film Private Eye [그림자 살인], which was released earlier this month.

Oh no. . . this is terrible.
That's a sad way to go.
Why are these actresses killing themselves,
are the industry people putting way too much pressure on them?
Or, are they just too busy?

Severe lack of sleep can lead to depression,
so perhaps they are just filming and filming and these girls aren't getting time to sleep,
so the deprivation just piles up and then the depression sets in.

Seriously, I don't want to see any of these performers die. . . .
I hope more of them have a better way of managing their stress then
the rest of these suicidal people.

i am sorry but i seriously hate the fact that korean entertainers think of suicide as the way out to their problems. I feel that committing suicide is a very cowardly way to die. The reasons behind all these deaths are all depression. I hate how they use this as an excuse. And its bad for kids there as they really look up to their idols and all these are becoming a bad influence..

depression is definitely a scary "illness"... it certainly makes one to toy around with the idea of suicide ... & the fact that it's even harder for entertainer to reach out make it even worse for them ...
somehow, i feel korean entertainment should look into this matter more seriously

i really hate to read those kind of news!

even if i don't know much about the deceased... it always gets me..
it always makes me wonder how bad and suppresing korean entertainment industry actually must be... not only the companies.. all of it... fans.. anti-fans.. stalkers.. tv stations.. executives... you know... like behind the scenes... no one really knows and maybe never will...

all these late actresses...
it's so sad...

choi jinsil's suicide was the worst news on korean entertainment industry to me ever..
after that nothing shocks me that much anymore..
but it still makes me sad and kind of enraged and disappointed... :(

RIP Woo Seung Yeon

I am very skeptical whenever I see the cause listed as 'depression' now. Just look at what happened to Jang Ja Yeon, and probably Jung Da bin as well. Who knows how many more female celebrities are being treated like that? It's terrible that so many k-actresses commit suicide so frequently.

It seems like a trend for the korean celebreties to commit suicide.
Is it that bad in the industry for so many of them decided to end their life by commiting suicide?
What is happening to this world?

RIP Woo Seung Yoon.....
She was so young ;(

it is UNFAIR for us to judge their decisions because we will NEVER know what they've gone through leading up to the suicide.....

most of us have never been depressed..so we dont have a damn clue what actually goes on in our heads this entire time......

even when getting treatments for depression did not help in her case....there was no light in the end of the tunnel...therefore, her only way out was that path....

well, now we know she no longer have to suffer and may rest in peace

depression is a real and undermined issue in korea. not every case is about sexual exploitation (those exist too.) woo's case was her depression got worse, after she didn't pass several auditions to get the acting jobs she wanted. the industry is not doing good (low boxoffice, nobody wants to invest), so there are fewer roles to go around compared to years up until 2006 (which was the EASIEST year to get jobs, with 100+ films being made.) also the nature of being an actor, is you always deal with job insecurity - some people can develop a thick skin to handle the constant rejections, other may not - especially when actors by nature also need to be sensitive & plugged into their emotions.

i wish she hadn't given up so soon. you read about some hollywood actors failing hundreds of auditions before getting a job. if it doesn't work out you can go into something else. in korean society where you are pressured to succeed at a young age or be seen as failure, plus few resources/education about mental well-being & depression, it can get real messy.

i understand that depression can be hard to overcome. sometimes impossible. but i don't think that suicide is an option. i think that those who commited suicide in the korean entertainment business is only setting a bad example to everyone. that it's okay to do it. it's really not.

i think the korean entertainment business needs to be watched out. this is just too much.

k-actresses and actors should really stop this now
it takes a long time to heal from depression, not just a couple of visits to the doctors and taking some pills
it's making the entertainment industry even darker than it already is

RIP .

All I have to say is, I think the government of Korea, should start looking into setting up laws to protect these actors from abuse like Jang Ja Yeon frm BOF or at least set up PROPER guidelines on the conditions of Korea's entertainment circle because seriously, its getting out of hand. Poor conditions are to blame for all these young actors trying escape by giving up their life.
Its sad how we all admire idols and actress and actors who seem to have everything and we wish we were like them in their shoes but in reality you never know if these actors are struggling with something this dark behind closed doors.

Come on Korean entertainment, Push past the barrier !
