Well I've been looking forward to WOIL for ages because of all the ad (and esp since Bosco is the main!!!) but after watching the first episode I thought the whole thing was sort- of cliched. The runaway bride/ someone got mixed up etc...

In general I think the whole show is a mix of Square Pegs/ Virtues of Harmony/ Vigilante in the Mask and Colorful Life.

Square Pegs (as in Jessica and her relationship with her mother in law...there's no denying it...even the catch phrase they used for both ads was the same)

Virtues of Harmony (the 'b*t*hiness' of all the women in the family)

Vilgilante in the Mask (Bosco's Mui Chun/ But Lau Ming)

Colorful Life (again the fighting of women in the family...the clothes etc...)

All in all I didn't get a great series as I was expecting it but I reckon the overall show was entertaining...wasn't draggy and Bosco's acting shine thru the most in this one (although I was annoyed why Mui Chun was so mean to the other girl).

Just wanna see other ppls opinon thats all...

Well, of course there is nothing original about the series.. and the ending was really generic. But the solid performances from Myolie and Liza , maybe Bosco made the series better.,

I totally agree with that argument. It is also the chemistry between the actors and in this case they did it all very well.

i think war of in laws is a great series..it's funny and all the actors adn actresses did realy good job..myolie is a good actress..so is liza wang and bosco..
in fact, i like the story line as wel...very refreshing...but since most of the tvb series want good endings..that's why some parts are quite predictable..

i think other series are much more predictable than war of in laws..well, that's just how tvb series goes..

Yeah, it's quite a funny series and entertaining, which was what caused all the hype about it when it first came out. But there's a lot of plotholes in the storyline and the story isn't that well written. Yet I agree with the people who said that it's the chemistry that makes the story shine - Bosco, Myolie and Liza all did a great job in the series. I really enjoyed watching them together =]

i think WOIL was a bit overrated but not totally because the casts did a good job in the series. Everyone has chemistry with each other and most of it was hilarious. It's not until the end that I think the series was starting to fail because the storyline was sort of 'stupid' to me. WOIL is still better than the other series though b/c of the interesting liza-myolie-bosco relationship.

Yeah I agree with a lot of you...actors/actress did a great job! But plot was too predictable and from episode 10 to 20 starts to go a little downhill...I think the high hopes/ expectations was to blame...If i haven't heard of the good reviews before I watched it i may have liked it more.

I don't think it's overrated. It's funny, and has great casts and great plot. Liza, Myolie, Bosco and others, all did great job in it. Love this drama

I agree with most ppl here - the thing which makes WOIL so great is not for the plot, but the CHEMISTRY between the actors/actresses. Liza and Myo were great, and Myo and Bosco were darn cute! I dont' think you can find many series with this amount of spark and chemistry.

i think WIOL is over rated because hong kong viewers like these kinda series. but i think most americans like into thin air more because its more american like. its onli hong kong ppl are too strict and all. i need to start a poll on whether americans like into thin air more or WOIL and whether HK ppl like into thin air or WIOL more.

I also did not think this series was all that great either. I saw the first couple of episodes and then stopped because it did not seem to catch my attention. The chemistry between Myolie and Bosco sucks and the series was pretty much crappy.

how u put the combinations.. with so many combinations, i think its just its OWN kind of series. there was definitely chemistry between the characters but i think it just appeals to different people of whether the show is good or not. some people like serious series so it wouldnt appeal to them as much. i think WOIL got its fair share of praises.

i see it another way. seriously...a lot of the movies made now all have the same plot and blah blah blah...you can't really expect it to be so different like black and white. yes war of in laws turned out to be like a lot of movies..in fact when i saw the movie...i thought it resembled lady flower fist (an older movie) but i enjoyed war of in laws very much. i thought it was entertaining!

Its true that you can't expect a series to be TOTALLY original...but I think at least make it not that predictable and cliched...WOIL was definitely cliched. It was entertaining for people to watch but not a series that is memorable (like Triumph in the Skies and Golden Faith where characters/plots have more depth). The only thing I found memorable is probably Bosco's "But Lau Ming"

It was good and entertaining but it was slightly overrated. I didn't C all that greatness ppl talked about, certain bits were a bit slow. Good thing I watched it before it became the hype or I would be disappointed.

I praise the script writer, as for the actresses...they were good I guess. But I didn't C either Liza/Myolie's role as being that tough to act.

It's totally overrated, it was one of the better series, but definitely not worth so many awards and publicity. It's only because so many people like Lisa Wong, and have to praise her in every serie she plays.

I don't think War of In Laws is overrated. The chemistry is great, the acting doesn't seem fake. It didn't see draggy to me...i kinda wish it didn't end. What more can you ask for?

I haven't watch a lot of HK sries in my life time cause I don't think the plot is recycled (out of the 4 you mentions I've only watched 2). I disagree with some of your comparisions. How can you compare WoiL with Square Pegs? Bosco was pretending to be Childish ...while the other guy was actually mentally retarded. VoH-b-tchiness. If i remember clearly, the head of the house in VoH (nancy) was not as b-tchy as Liza (who can be considered the head of the house in woil). As for Myolie ...she doesn't seem b-tchy to me compared to the 3 VoH wives. Plus if theres no b-tchiness in the story then where would all the fights come from?

lady fan and war of in laws is the same? hmmm.........maybe you're over reading the story plot a little, i mean before lady fan there are probably at least five series int he same year with teh same plot and would you accuse them of copying other series then. same plots are always used because audience like it so nothing wrong with that as long as they add a twist and make it good but i thought war of in law is quite good for last year's standard

I don't know about being overrated because I went into this series with no expectations. I will say that I liked the first half a lot more than the 2nd half.

PROS:
1. Intellectual Humour: just about everything involving words or a play on words was funny
2. Chemistry: Myolie and Bosco were a very convincing couple, I didn't notice any of the "stiffness" that I often see in other series, Myolie + Lisa was also a very fiery combination.
3. Expressions: the roles may not have been complex, but the comical facial contortions of the actors often said more than words
4. Pacing: the plot moved quickly during the first half so you didn't have to spend 2-3 episodes on one issue.

CONS:
1. Slapstick Humour: quickly became boring, how many times do you have to show someone tripping, falling and dumping tea/congee/themselves onto someone else?
2. Love Triangles: I hate watching them, it seems that every TVB series handles love triangles the same way and I find it very stressful to watch.
3. Multiple Personalities: Some of the characters did a full 360 during the second half of the show, the change was so drastic it was as if they were completely different people.
4. Genre Shifting: the first half was comedic with a smattering of romance thrown in, the second half eradicated most of the comedy, twisted the romance and loaded on the drama.

i think war of in-laws was pretty good. not the best but good enough to be a nominated. it had myolie and bosco and they were good working together. and i thought it was pretty funny. how liza and myolie acted such childish. it had humor/serious.

it's definitely overrated as it's just a comedy with mediocre performances from the casts. Bosco's hero image is so fake. Myolie and Liza's dialogues are boring! I hate Liza's acting!

I totally love this series..but have to agreed with you that it's a little bit overrate...since it wasn't that of an original idea...so yeah...but all in all I still enjoy it, but was expecting it to be better when I saw so much people talk of it like that..

Well, you got to admit that when you put all the elements that you have list into a series and still make it seem funny, then you have a good and entertaining show.
