Sweet spy, MBC new Drama Series Options

"...one of the most interesting new dramas which will start broadcasting soon is MBC's 달콤한 스파이 (Sweet Spy). The show - formerly titled just 'Spy' - replaced its main lead, going from veteran Hwang Shin-Hye to young and talented Nam Sang-Mi, whose latest film - another police drama - 강력3반 (Never To Lose) became a minor success story after selling 1 Million tickets, helped by a surge in tickets sold outside the capital.

When you say TV Dramas, a kind of axiom always emerges. Is it set in a hospital? Then it's about hospital workers dating each other. Set in a school? Students date each other. And so, connecting the dots, if it's a Police Drama... policemen date each other, right? No, at least that's what the producers of the show say. The show, written by Lee Seon-Mi and Kim Gi-Ho, promises to become Korea's own C.S.I. Sort of... Our lead, the lovely Nam Sang-Mi, plays Soon Ae, who went to Police Academy to become a policewoman, after losing her husband a few months after marriage. Sure, she starts off as someone who breaks up fights between married couples, who tends to little petty accidents and the like. But she hopes to one day become a serious detective, someone who can make it big. But then one day she does end up in a special division, unexpectedly.

The cast is quite solid. Nam Sang-Mi might have entered the industry because of her great looks (she was an Internet 얼짱 - Coolest Face), but she's developed tremendously in the last two years, and she does seem to have talent for this thing called acting. Yoo Seon, who plays the elite policewoman Eun-Joo, has been improving as well, lately making an impressive turn in the flawed but interesting horror flick 가발 (The Wig). Lee Ju-Hyeon has been starring in Dramas since the mid 90s - even going as far as 첫사랑 (First Love) in 96, still the top rated Korean TV Dramas of all time, recording over 68% ratings back then - and although he never left much of an impression, he's quite a solid actor. Then there's Dennis O'Neill, a Korean-American actor who seems to be second Daniel Henney, hearing the hype he's been receiving. Plus there's Sung Eun, former adult video star who in two months went from pop starlet to interesting actress (she looks like a decent actress from what I've seen). Finally, veterans like Choi Buram (in his first villain role) make up a very appealing salad dressing.

Will the popular writer duo of Lee Seon-Mi and Kim Gi-Ho (a couple in real life) go back to their usual romantic comedy styled shows, like their latest 신입사원 (Super Rookie), or offer something a little meatier? And with no huge stars, will this Drama continue the impressive drought in viewership the 'Drama Kingdom' MBC is recently facing? oh............. i like this series, even thought i don't understand the language (i watched it in korean chanel) and without subtitle, but i like it very much, especially the weird romance between the police women, the korean good looking police man, and a male spy gorgeous that only speak engglish .
i can wait to watch the next episode...

Dennis O'Neil does remind of Daniel Henney. I'm only on ep. 4 but it's interesting so far. Funny how Dennis talked to the female lead in English yet she doesn't understand him and she has this expression on her face. lol I wonder who she will end up with? Dennis or the other cop

Same I really want to know if the policewoamn will end up with Dennis or the other guy? I really hope it's Dennis . They would look nice together lol. Dennis has a mysterious role in there. Not the best but he's role is pretty good and he's probably the most handsome korean stars up until now I see. People compare him with Daninel Henney, although I don't like to compare them but Dennis is much more handsome I have to say. Don't know about the acting. Just on my opinion. Anyways... the leading actress is pretty funny heheheh.

I like this serie so far due to the comedy and some of the mysterious references.
I'm looking forward for the new and exciting up coming episodes.
And I'm beginning to fall in love with korean and american mix. It's the hottest thing.

It was fun to see Dennis (Kor/Amer) jealous & irked by seeing Kang showing Sun how to box. Kang being a little annoyed Sun being kissed & hugged by Dennis.

I can't wait to see more.

The 3 gym guys are really comic relief like the stooges even I would not think they are spys. Even though 1 of them was a head crime boss while being investigated by Sun's husband undercover and got killed. Where HE himself did not know who Sun's huband was.

I only started watching this series a few days ago and I love it. I fell in love with this series in the very first episode. It's somewhat different from the usual korean dramas. Dennis O'Neil is so hot! The other policeman is okay as well. I can't wait for the rest of the english subs to come out. It'driving me nuts waiting. lol. I know there are chinese subs for this series that has more episodes out, but I don't want to read simplfied chinese =/.

but people from soompi who have finish watching eps20 yesterday nite says that the ending is a bit weird.
so it's up 2 us whether we think Yo ill is still a live or not.

i've seen clips here and there of this kdrama and oooooh, Dennis is cute! but i personally didn't like the fact that he only spoke English in it.. it's a little weird.. but i think this can be good for Koreans because it'll expose them more to the English language and might even learn a little bit of it from this serie.. and about Dennis, i find that he slurs his words a little (maybe it's just me.. hehe) i think he needs to articulate a little bit more.. aside from that, not bad for a first-timer

I enjoyed this fun series very much and I liked the fact that it’s very fast paced. It’s hilarious when everyone mistook everyone as spies, which caused so many misunderstandings. It wasn’t until the end that you know who the real spy is. I think most of the comical stuff came from the supporting characters. I like both male characters so I didn’t really mind who ‘koala’ ends up with. The problem is just that it’s a bit unrealistic that everyone understood everyone despite the language barrier. The abrupt ending is a letdown; I mean is this even called an ending? They left so many unanswered questions…for a sequel?

Nam Sang Mi was my idol because of Dead Friend (with Kim Ha Neul and Ryu Jin). She reminds me of a Filipina Actress Maja Salvador (they have same face features, especially the eyes). They are both pretty and talented. Go Sang Mi!!!
