History

During her study on university she accepted a modelling assignment from a watch company named City Chain and it was this commercial who caught the attention of film director Lee Chi Ngai who cast her in her very first movie (1995), Doctor Mack 《流氓醫生》 starring Tony Leung. The success of the movie brought her a further role in Sixty Million Dollar Man 《百變星君》 starring Stephen Chow which lead her to have another role in Full Throttle 《烈火戰車》 starring Andy Lau and it was this movie she got nominated for Best Newcomer at the Fifteenth Session Of The Hong Kong Film Awards《第十五屆香港電影金像獎》 year 1995.

Entertainment career

Short hair combine with youthfulness and the image like the girl next door is Gigi's image and this was unusual back then and her short hair have been an icon for her since then. Gigi's singing career began in 1996 with her first cantonese debut album Love Myself 《愛自己》(1996) and she was soon loved by Hong Kong and got the best newcomer singer award on TVB JSG 《勁歌金曲》(1996). In 1997 she released her first mandarin debut album Short Hair 《短髮》 (1997) and it turned out to be a big success and it was from this year her popularity rise in both mainland china and Taiwan.
But in 1999 after Gigi had taken part in a musical starring Ekin Cheng, Miriam Yeung and Jordan Chan, she and Ekin developed some feelings for each other and started to date but back then Ekin hadn't publicated the breakup with his girlfriend Maggie Siu which lead for Gigi to be regared as the "third part" and this had a negative impact in her career and leads to a down hill for her career.
However Gigi managed the drought and succeded to have her first own full-scale live concert in 2002 《G for Girl Live 2002》

Gigi Leung Wing-kei (screen name 梁詠琪) (born March 25, 1976) is a Hong Kong singer/actress. Her birth name is Leung Bik Gee (梁碧芝). Because of asthma in 1983 when she was 7, she changed her name to the present name.

She has a twin brother, Leung Wing Chung.

She is recognized not only as a singer, but a song writer and lyricist as well. She is a member of Warner Music Hong Kong.

Gigi Leung is the spokerperson for many organizations like Unicef, WWF ect.

I used to like Gigi Leung when she first came out.  But now I really dislike her because of her relationship with Ekin.  I feel like she's the third person in Ekin's relationship with his ex.  Maybe this has nothing to do with me, but it's because of that that I started to dislike her as well as Ekin.

yeah I know. but I think that the way ekin handel it was good I mean he don´t need to tell anybody what have happen between his relationship with maggie is up to him. I mean we don´t need to have permission who we want to be with are not.

I ordered Look (pre-ordered) on Yesasia. It still hasn't come yet. Actually, I'm looking for one of the CDs's posters. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Also, I think to respond to someone else's earlier comment, I think Look is a new direction for Gigi. She works with new people, and her songs in this album are catchier, faster, and more upbeat. There are less k-songs. It's an interesting approach, and I think it's commendable to try something new every once in a while.

My order of the cd hasn't arrived yet, so I can't say much about it yet, but what kind of change do you have in mind? Like going rock or rap or R&B? I'm sometims curious too how she would fair doing different kind of genres of music. Like how she would sound of doing a song of Muse for instance I know she can do rock songs pretty well, have heard her coveriing a few. But then, I think she should do what she feels comfortable with, no need to just change because of change. Not just follow trends.

Have you tried to give it a few more listens, as I find cantonese pop is more about lyrics carrying you into the music than the otherway around like what's more common in western pop generally speaking.

Indeed I love Gigi very much, and always support her music (even though in her early career, I thought her voice is weak and her choreography not interesting). So I bought her latest album immediately. Even if her style is the same, I will still keep the album as a treasured gift.

It's just that Look is cited as a 'new direction', but I saw no newness here. Perhaps i will try to listen to it again and again to see if my opinion is changed.

From all these years of being fan of her I believe she is a very level headed person and well grounded. Actually quite an ordinary girl, but with a strong will. Being so grounded might very well be the reason she hasn't reached extreme heights yet, and I think that is ok. Hearing how she does not look down on certain professions, how she can relativise about life and how she can empathise with others shows how down to earth she is.

I have listened to several public broadcasts where she was guest and where the radio presenters/dj's were trying to make fun of callers and other co-guests and everytime she always put in a good word for them to let them, putting things in perspective, so they would not be sillyfied.

i heard the interview she made in that 881 program...can really feel that she is very happy producing this album...i guess in every of her new album,she reli wan to do something new everytime,which is good because then we will b able to see other sides of gigi...and i guess it is important for her as well as a singer in this competitive industry...and it is funny that whenever she say the name of her new album...hope this album does well.....
