This year's Miss Hong Kong winners, Mandy Cho, Rabee'a Yeung and Priscilla Chik wish readers good health and eternal youth!

Mandy's performance career has been smooth sailing last year and as well as winning the Miss Hong Kong title, she has also taken the Runner up place at Miss Chinese International, worthy of congratulation. She admits that this year will be an important one in her entertainment career and she will try many new things and challenges, such as acting in series. No wonder she says she is in no rush to find a date as her career will come first. Mandy indicates: "At first, I was hoping to go to the flower market and buy some peach blossoms, but I had to work so I couldn't make it. (Did you want to get some flowers to bring you luck in love and find a handsome boyfriend?) No, I am in no rush to start dating, boyfriends should come naturally, the most important thing for now is my career. Buying peach-blossom is good for relationships with audiences as well." Mandy also reveals that she especially likes the new year celebrations because she can go visiting with her parents and collect lucky packets. Every year the biggest one she receives is the one from her mother.

Rabee'a has been to the lively flower markets and has bought herself a peach blossom. She says: "This time, it was the first time I visited a flower market in Hong Kong and the atmosphere was very lively. Buying peach blossom is for a good aura with the audience and at the moment, work is the most important thing. Love and romance will just be down to fate. Also, the peach blossom is pink and it matches my decorations in my home."

As for Priscilla Chik, she will be spending the new year with her family and although she is grown up now, she still likes to go visiting with her parents. Talking of new year wishes, she hopes that everything will go smoothly this year and she can try new things in her performance career.

[Oriental Daily & The Sun]

Mandy Cho hosted the opening event for the International Orchid Exposition 2004 and was admiring the exhibits on show and having her photograph taken with the specimen worth an estimated $1bn and attracting a crowd who praised her beauty. Mandy commented that she has not had time to go to the flower markets this year, so she is making up for it now. With recent reports that whilst filming for TVB's Music Special with Aaron Kwok, he has been outwardly courting her, Mandy responds calmly: "I have not read the reports and I don't believe it." Mandy sees this news as just a bit gossip and has no feelings for it, but she praised Aaron for being good-looking. It turns out that she has a wedding scene in the special and comparing this with her last wedding gown shoot, she laughs: "My last partner wasn't as handsome as Aaron!" When asked if she had to kiss him, she says: "No! (Did you wear flat shoes to account for Aaron's height?) Just my normal shoes!"

Also, Mandy has had a rewarding New Year after receiving a big pile of lucky packets. As she was not in Hong Kong in past years, then she has made up for it this year, even picking up Sir Run Run's lucky packet whilst working over the new year.

Having been linked romantically working together on a music special, Aaron Kwok has openly admitted his affections towards Mandy Cho. Mandy, Rabee'a Yeung and Priscilla Chik took part in a charity walk yesterday and reporters questioned Mandy on whether she had invited her 'boyfriend' to take part. Surprisingly, she said: "I think he must have other things to do. (Do you admit that he is your boyfriend then?) I just know who you are referring to." Mandy and Aaron have just finished filming for the music special and she admits that she misses working with him, but not just him as she misses the crew as well. She indicates that she has not swapped phone numbers with Aaron.

As for her criteria for choosing a partner, does a man much older than her stand a chance? Mandy says: "Age is not an issue, as long as destiny strikes. (What are Aaron's good points?) As well as being able to sing, he can dance and is a very professional actor who can lead me into the scene. Being with him, you are always very happy and joyful and in high spirits. (Do you like this type?) He is the Dancing prince, everyone likes him. (Do you have the feeling from him?) I don't know what to say, we are just friends at the moment. (Has he electrified you?) When we were filming, there was a little, but in private, no." Mandy also openly says that if Aaron invites her on a date, she will definitely go if she has time, but there are no developments at the moment.

Some reports have indicated recently that this year's Miss Hong Kong Mandy Cho overstepped the line by wearing a bikini in a slimming ad and caused the wrath of TVB leading to her suspension of work for this company. When asked whether the company has complained, Mandy says: "The company has not spoken to me about the matter and I felt that the set of ads was not too sexy because I wore a bikini for the Miss Hong Kong contest." Will she be suspending her work for the slimming ads? She says: "I haven't fulfilled my contract yet, but can't say how long it is for. However, in the short term I will not be appearing in a bikini again because there are plenty of shots in the first set and there are still plenty of pictures for them to use."

Mandy appeared at the Hong Kong outstanding sportsperson awards with Alex Fong yesterday, Alex indicated that he always wanted to win this award, but he never had the chance.

The five winners from this year's Miss Hong Kong pageant Mandy Cho, Rabee'a Yeung, Priscilla Chik, Selena Li and Carrie Lee appeared together with eight members of TVB's "The B.E.S.T. Team" including Shirley Yeung, Chu Hoi Ting, Ron Ng and Bosco Wong at a promotional event for the opening of the 2004 pageant application process for local contestants in Hong Kong.

In order to welcome the summer feel, the girls were dressed in summery dresses and keeping a great figure, Carrie Lee appeared in an eyecatching strappy dress that stole the attention of the cameras. In contrast, Mandy showed a little flab and thick legs and was no competition.

Carrie does not agree that she has stolen the limelight from the other Miss HK's and laughs: "Actually this is a dress from the company. Maybe I was awarded the 'Slimmed beauty' award last year, so they want me to show my figure off a little." She also reveals she is not wearing a bra: "There are pads in the dress, so there is no problem. If the company arranges it then it will not be very sexy." Carrie points out that she has put on a little since the pagent, rising from 107 lbs to 111 lbs.

As for Mandy's response to the suggestions she is putting on weight, she says a little embarrassed: "I am a bit, but this is a good sign. I will keep my figure, the most important thing is exercise." She does not think that Carrie has stolen the show: "I feel that everyone has their own beauty, my dress is also very pretty and I have something underneath so it is very safe."

In response to suggestions that he is avoiding "Spark Generator" Nancy Wu on the set of "Destinies of the Western Chamber" by looking only at his co-star Myolie Wu, Ron Ng denied this, saying that it was just the angle of the photograph. As for his current promotion by TVB, he says that the company is very open and will not stop him from dating. He says: "The company is very open-minded and has not instructed me not to date, but I am concentrating on my work at the moment so there should not be any sparks between me and any girl just yet."

Ron says that he and Nancy have worked together in "Twin of Brothers", "Find the Light" and "Triumph in the Skies", but they are just friends and he points out: "We do chat with each other and often will go out with a big group of others after work for dinner." Ron also believes that artistes should have female friends as he laughs: "We are just normal people and we still have to go out. If I am photographed holding a girl's hand or holding her then I will admit I am dating."

Mandy Cho appeared at the costume tryout for new series "Fight for Every Moment" where she plays a forensic scientist and she indicated that the show's deputy producter Catherine Tsang has been giving her many tips during filming as well as suggesting that she cuts her hair shorter. Catherine also indicated that the new show has invited Thai stars Chatchai Plangpanit and Sririta Jensen to take part and the show will be aired simultaneously in Hong Kong and Thailand.

When Mandy was asked to strike a fighting pose with Sririta, she seemed rather clumsy, but she insists she has been learning the script and doing her preparation thoroughly. When Catherine heard this, she immediately added: "If you don't work hard, you will be beaten." Talking of cutting her hair, Mandy says with some hesitance: "I need to change I guess, Catherine has been looking after me and I will have love affairs with Kevin Cheng and Chris Lai." As for 22-year old Sririta, she has filmed an advertisement with Aaron Kwok before.

At a later event, Mandy seemed to be upstaged by Rabee'a Yeung in a revealing top and she responded: "I don't mind a healthy sexy look, I will be filming a travel special in Guam soon and wearing a bikini to go sunbathing."

Shirley Yeung, Mandy Cho, Rabee'a Yeung and a group of Miss HK winners were out en force in Tsimshatsui to attract some applicants, but ended up attracting just a big group of fans instead. When Mandy appeared in her short skirt, she was clearly chubbier than before and when asked if she was worried about this for her slimming programme, she responded that she has problems with water retention and being beautiful is not only about being skinny. The overseas recruitment for this year's Miss HK has been completed already and the quality is fairly good with TVB considering raising the number of finalists to more than twenty.

Shirley was originally going to film in South Africa this month, but due to political instability, the trip has been postponed. With the reports that there have been complaints from stock market investors about the 'Ding Hai Effect' in her new show "Blade Heart", Shirley finds it rather amusing and she comments that just one person like Adam cannot affect the markets and taking risks is not good anyway.

Filming series for the first time, Mandy Cho seems nervous in front of the camera and is often having NG's and holding everyone up from going home. However, co-star Kevin Cheng and the director have no bad words for her and even teach her themselves how to act.

Filming for new series "Fight for Every Moment" in Central, Mandy seemed very nervous when she was called on set for the first time and even a very simple scene had to be repeated several times. However, the director looked after his newcomer, often approaching her himself to show her how to act the scene as Mandy tried to take it all in.

Afterwards, Mandy commented: "You have to take a lot of things into account when you are filming on location and as it is my first day I am not used to it yet. I am playing a forensic expert so a lot of the vocabulary is quite difficult and I would give myself six out of ten. Kevin and the director have been very good and patiently teaching me. Acting is still a very big challenge for me." Although Mandy is continuously causing NG's, Kevin does not mind at all as he says: "For a newcomer, she is okay! Everyone who is new will be nervous and I have been a rookie too, I remember the first time I faced the camera I was sweating so much. (Have you given her some tips?) The director will teach her, they don't need me."

Often appearing in sexy attire, Rabee'a Yeung took part in an event with Mandy Cho and Priscilla Chik yesterday and again appered in a low cut top overshadowing her 'sisters'. Talking of using 'public chopsticks' whilst eating, Rabee'a agrees and says: "We don't need to do it when I am with my family, but when I am out with friends then it is safer, especially when we have a steamboat."

The event was a voluntary (unpaid) one, but the three didn't mind and Mandy said: "We will soon be handing over the title of Miss Hong Kong, so we would like to contribute more to the community whilst we can." Also Mandy indicated that her filming is gradually improving and her NG's are reducing now. She laughs: "I am starting to get into the role and to know what to do, however the role is of a professional and she has to stay cool all the time, so I am finding it hard to control my laughter."

TVB had a contract signing ceremony with Thailand's Channel 3 for their joint production "Fight for Every Moment" and the leading stars Alex Fong, Yoyo Mung, Mandy Cho together with Thai stars Chatchai Plangpanit and Sririta Jensen were also present. Dubbed "HK Richard Gere" Alex is challenged by the "Thai Chow Yun Fat" for the first time and even his good partner Yoyo is changing her affections!

Yoyo not only praises Chatchai for being handsome, she also asked the producer to increase their scenes together: "This is the first time I have met Chatchai and he really is good looking! (Who is more handsome, him or Alex?) If Alex wasn't as insulting then he would be more handsome! Actually I have learned some words in Thai, but they sound like expletives, for example 'light brown' is 'si-lum-dan', but hopefully I will learn some more authentic words from him." As for Chatchai, he said through his interpreter: "Thank you for your praises, I have filmed with Chow Yun Fat a long time ago, but this is the first time that I have filmed a HK TV series and I will be playing an undercover cop."

Losing out to Chatchai, Alex immediately changed the focus and praised Athena Chu's recent 'sticking out' style, saying: "Athena is solid and I admire her intentions, because this shows her professionalism as an artiste, but I daren't look at her!"

Ron Ng, Bosco Wong and Kenneth Ma were out together with Miss HK winners Mandy Cho, Rabee'a Yeung and Priscilla Chik in Causeway Bay to attract applicants for this years pageant and with his rising popularity, Ron attracted many fans and in order to avoid an accident, the group hid in a telephone shop, but even then, some crazed fans climbed onto the barriers next to the road and nearly injured themselves.

Was Ron worried about being taken advantage of with so many people around? He laughs: "No, the worst that has happened is I have been poked in the back by some girls." He admits that before entering the industry, he has been sexually harrassed on many occasions: "I have been to the toilet and been eyed up by other men, although I feel rather flattered, I would ask them what they are staring at. I have also been 'attacked from below' whilst drinking in a bar, so I pushed him away immediately! I have also been waited for by some gay men. (Are you so attractive to homosexuals?) It should be I am attractive to both men and women!" Ron insists he is not being discriminatory to gay people, but when he is met with aggression, he will respond accordingly.

The three girls were passing out forms at the event, but the crowds that they attracted were all under seventeen and Mandy laughs: "They were all quite enthusiastic about taking forms though, saying they are getting them for their sisters and friends!"

At yesterday's press conference, Sonija Kwok appeared wearing a sexy black strappy dress and caught the attention of executive Chan Chi Wan. When asked about htis, she smiled: "Well I have to respect the occasion! Also as I was filming beforehand, I didn't have much time to prepare so I just picked up any dress. It is a little loose, but never mind." Although Sonija and her rumoured nemesis Steven Ma were both at the event, they didn't bump into each other.

As for the recently heavily promoted Mandy Cho, was also wearing a sexy strappy dress and when asked about the reports of a Miss HK contestant smoking in public, she says: "This person will not get through! If they have a bad image it is difficult to tie in with the Miss Hong Kong image." Anne Heung revealed that her dress was sponsored: "I had to co-ordinate with the occasion, but I will not be too sexy intentionally. This event has boosted morale because we rarely get to find out about the company's future plans."

TVB held a presentation party yesterday to showcase its preparations for the coverage of the four-yearly Olympic Games that will be held in Athens and begin on 13th August. 130 specially invited guests assembled to hear Sales and Marketing Director Leung Kin Wah explain that the games should bring the company an estimated $400 million in advertising revenue, but due to the sky high costs of broadcasting the event and the additional equipment required, they estimate that they will only just break even.

Coverage of the games will be hosted by Joe Ma, Myolie Wu, Vincent Kuk, Hon Yuk Man and Alex Fong (Lik San). Together with 'Olympic Stars' Raymond Lam, Sammul Chan, Kenneth Ma, Lai Lok Yi and Bosco Wong and the 'Miss Hong Kong' winners Mandy Cho and Rabee'a Priscilla Chik, they all made an appearance at the presentation. Mr Leung indicates that they started selling the event to the advertising sponsors in December and 60% of clients have now struck a deal with the remaining 40% becoming more active as the event draws near and will confirm in July or August. Although ATV will also be broadcasting from the Olympics, Mr Leung says that their target sponsorship is primarily from the mainland and so there is little conflict between the stations. He also indicates that during the Olympic broadcasts, they will not make the same mistakes as the HK Film Awards this year and cut the events to make way for the advertisements. This is because the events run to strict timing and are not as likely to overrun.

Myolie Wu and Mandy Cho appeared at yesterday's event dressed as Grecian ladies and Myolie laughs that she will firstly be sent over to Athens to report on the opening ceremony before returning to Hong Kong to help host the coverage. She feels a little disappointed that she will not be able to interview the athletes. Her favourite Chinese sportsman is the diving prince Tian Liang, as she feels he is very handsome and when she was younger, she was a big fan of Gymnastics champion Li Ning. Myolie has started to study the details of the Olympics because she feels she has to be totally prepared, otherwise she will not be able to answer questions during the commentary and she can't cover this with smiles. When asked if she was afraid of being branded as a 'dumb Miss Hong Kong', she says that she should be professional about it.

Alex Fong has been sent to Athens to be the local host for ten days and he says that four years ago, he attended as a competitor, but now he is a host, it is very different. He is very happy to be allowed to live in the athlete's village as this is a rare opportunity and he can share the feelings and ups and downs with the athletes as well as meet people from many different races and nations. He hopes that he can meet Yao Ming, but he will primarily be interviewing the Hong Kong representatives. He feels that as he knows them well already it will be more relaxed and easier to communicate. He will not be receiving a fee for his work, but he feels it is an honour to be part of such a special event.

Also, Sammul Chan revealed that he fell over some steps whilst he was shopping in a mall earlier and injured his knee. He says that there were a lot of people at the time and he was very embarrassed. He picked himself up and went to see a Chinese acupuncturist for treatment. As he will be MC for the Ming Oi charity event on Sunday, he hopes the injury will not affect his work on that evening.

Over a hundred police officers, uniformed and kitted out in SDU gear were armed and ready surrounding an apartment block in Tsimshatsui earlier. What has happened? It is a major criminal or a terrorist attack?

In fact, it was a location shoot for TVB's "Fight for Every Moment" in a scene that told of police officers Kevin Cheng, Mandy Cho, and Alex Fong together with a group of extras playing the police officers who were ready to rescue hostages from their violent kidnappers. The atmosphere was exciting and the scenes realistic, so little wonder that the passers by were so afraid that they watched aghast at the thought that Hong Kong was being struck by a major incident. When they realised it was just a TV shoot, they stuck around to watch the action, but some were afraid to get involved. One old lady muttered as she walked past: "Wow, are those guns real? Do they have bullets? Will they bounce out and injure me?" Also, as the road had to be closed for the filming, many shops had to close their doors for the day, but one of the shop owners said he didn't mind because he could see so many stars and watch them filming, so it was worth the day's business!

Also, Kevin Cheng praises Mandy Cho's improvement, laughing that she is no longer constantly having NG's. Mandy was pleased at hearing this and said: "Actually, Kevin is very patient in teaching me a lot, so I am not as nervous about filming any more." As for her first grand scale scene, she says it is a real eye-opener and she is very excited.

Frankie Lam and three Miss Hong Kong's were taking part in a charity Taijiquan event yesterday where over a thousand participants, including many sufferers of Parkinson's Disease took part to raise a total of $200,000 for the charity. Frankie had always been a sickly child, so his mother had arranged for him and his sister to learn Taiji to help with his health. Although he has not practised for a while, he was still able to demonstrate a few moves without any problems.

Frankie's father also suffers from Parkinson's and usually it takes a while for the symptoms to develop. However his father's condition is deteriorating very rapidly with spasms in half of his body that required constant massage from two maids. After an operation, the spasms stoppped, but he still cannot move around unaided. Yesterday, Frankie spoke to the president of the Parkinson's Disease charity about the matter of his father swallowing saliva into his lungs and he found out that there is a machine that can be used to examine the swallowing mechanism and hopefully this will prevent him from choking or building up fluid in his lungs.

Will Frankie be holding a party for his father's seventieth birthday? He says: "He couldn't even go to my wedding. He knew I was getting married and kept asking when it was, but he has many tubes attached to his body, so he couldn't attend. When they showed the ceremony on the TV, the nurses were kind enough to show him the footage on the television set and he was so moved that he cried. However, his condition now is quite stable."

Mandy Cho, Rabee'a Yeung and Priscilla Chik were in Shangping earlier to open a set of properties, but as it was a holiday, the transport was slow and the trip took them over ten hours. Mandy laughs that flying to San Francisco doesn't even take that long. When asked if she has received the apartment she was awarded for Miss Hong Kong yet, she says that she has not yet received the keys and will have to wait for the formalities to be completed. When she was asked about her thoughts on this year's contestants, Mandy says that the quality is quite good and there are a few who have left a lasting impression on her.

Miss Hong Kong winners Mandy Cho, Priscilla Chik, Selena Li and Carrie Lee appeared at a Mothers Day event yesterday and as well as playing games with the audience and designing a Mothers Day card, they also sung Sammi Cheng's "Forever Beautiful" in a tribute to motherly love.

Mandy Cho also rushed home after the event as she says she wanted to make the most of her time to make a chocolate cake for her mother and present her with her 'first time'. In the evening, she will also be celebrating with her family. Mandy says she will soon be heading out to Africa to film for a show that introduces diamonds and laughs that she hopes to find a five carat diamond. She reveals that when she was studying in America, she received a diamond ring from a boyfriend for her birthday and although the stone was very small, she didn't mind because it was the thought that counted. Mandy insists that she will not receive random gifts of diamonds from men though. When asked what she would do if rumoured boyfriend Aaron Kwok gave her a diamond, she laughed: "Wait until he does first!"

there is a cool site about Mandy, here's the site:

this site also has stuff about Shirley Yeung

[News]

Last year's winner Mandy Cho will soon be meeting with the contestants and sharing with them her own experiences and advice. When asked what advice she has to give, she laughs that she only has one piece and that is to relax about everything and not be too nervous. She smiles: "The scariest thing for me last year was interacting with the media because I didn't have much to say to strangers, but afterwards, I found that the media are actually very nice, so I tell myself not to be nervous and just face everything in a relaxed manner." As for the contestant who fell over at the last meeting, Mandy says: "She must have been too nervous!"

Mandy also adds that she has seen the quality of this year's contestants and feels that they are very even and not bad at all. She believes that after they have been repackaged, then they will totally change their image. When asked whether she thought that having a movie star mother would be an advantage, Mandy feels that Lee Ying's daughter is very pretty anyway and that the judges will be very fair and not give her extra points just because of her background. She feels that the most important thing for the contestants is to do their best in their performance.

In order to welcome the Olympic Games, TVB is currently holding a series of events across Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories where they will be passing an Olympic torch, with the coverage being shown on Jade Starbiz. Yesterday, Mandy Cho and Raymond Lam started their leg from Wanchai's Golden Bauhinia Plaza, and as that is a tourist hotspot, many tourists from the mainland asked Mandy for a photograph. As she is Miss Hong Kong, then of course she has to comply but her smile slowly went rather numb and she called out that she would have to start charging if she were to carry on!

Mandy started work at 9 am, being filmed with a group of over fifty students and she was in high spirits to start with, but after facing all the tourists, she was soon rather tired out and had to be helped away by the crew.

As for Raymond Lam, after meeting with blistering remarks from Rain Li at the earlier charity event, she made another jibe at him at the filming of "Jade Solid Gold", where she mentioned that she would like to have a higher nose and a smaller mouth and then saying that Raymond is like 'bread of life' changing with the days.Reports suggest that she is referring to Raymond's earlier rumours of plastic surgery. To this, Raymond responded: "I have nothing to say. (Have you fallen out?) Don't talk about it, I don't want this to become tit for tat, there is no meaning to this." He also says that he does not want to dwell on the subject as they are both friends, but they don't keep in touch very much. Later he will be heading into Beijing to film for "Tossing Rain Turning Cloud", working with Sharon Chan. He says that as Sharon has low blood sugar, he will be looking after her carefully."

The Wai Yin Women's Association will be holding a charity ball at the Hyatt hotel on 3rd July to raise money for elderly services. At the press conference, there were appearances from Wai Yin's members and this year's Miss Hong Kong winners. Mandy Cho is not yet a member because she can only join after she completes her role in August this year, however she is taking the opportunity to understand the operations of the society.

Mandy will be taking part in TVB's Olympic show this weekend and she will be playing African drums. She says that she does not know how to beat a rhythm, but she has been practising hard in the hope that she can give a good performance. When asked whether she will be wearing African dress, she says she does not know yet and will wait for arrangements from the company. Later, Mandy will be shooting some wedding photos with Kevin Cheng becuase they are currently working together on new series "Fight for Every Moment" and they have been offered a handsome fee for the job. This is the third time that Mandy will have worn wedding gowns, but she is not worried that she will be too accustomed when it comes to her real wedding in the future as she will be choosing her own dress and the feeling will definitely be different. Despite her Westernised appearance, Mandy would still very much like to wear the Chinese wedding dress and when asked when she would get married, she says that 30 is a suitable age and doesn't feel this is late. She says: "Not late at all. I don't have a boyfriend yet, but when I meet one, I will have to get to know him first, so it is about right." As for her earlier joke about meeting some eligible bachelors at balls, she says: "I haven't met any yet and no-one seems to be chasing me, so just have to go with fate, I was just joking anyway."

The 18 Miss Hong Kong contestants were arranged to meet with the judges yesterday for the "Slimmed Beauty Award" who were Shirley Cheung, Joe Ngai Jan and Mandy Cho. The judges will have another inspection at the end of July to see their progress and choose a winner.

When Joe was asked why he was being a judge, he says that maybe his choice of girl is not bad. After meeting the contestants yesterday, he praises them for their high standard of education, their grace and elegance and their willingness to express themselves with a few who are very talkative and fresh. When asked how he would be choosing the winner, he says that he will see how their slimming programme comes along and take notes.

From Joe's observations, are there any who need special improvement? He says: "Most of them are okay and although some are being mocked for their big bums, I think that their figures are okay. However, the way men see women and the way women see women is different as women have higher expectations. (Maybe the contestants are full of confidence.) They are all very even and I have not seen one who is totally confident like Michelle Reis, but there are a few who are quite comfortable, so I hope they can build on their confidence. (Will you use your girlfriend [Vivian Chow] as a standard?) Why are you suddenly mentioning my girlfriend? (She is pretty!) A lot of stars' beauty emerges gradually." He adds that he usually has a gut feeling about the opposite sex and will not just look in one place.

When Mandy Cho was asked how she found the contestants' figures this year, she smiled: "They are all very fit, but still need to lose a little weight. (Have you noticed Lee Ying's daughter, her figure is rather full?) I have noticed every contestant and I don't want to put pressure on them because I have been in their position and even if they are recognised, it is still pressure." As for her standards of judging beauty, she will first look at the waist because that is what gives the hourglass figure.

As the current reigning Miss Hong Kong, Mandy shared some experiences with the contestants and reminded them not just to think about winning or losing, because this will just add to the pressure. The most important thing is to relax and have some fun and this will make it all easier. Talking of the hard work in rehearsals, Mandy returned with a question: "Really? Last year I was really scared about dance rehearsals, because I don't dance much and it was really hard work, but you get used to it eventually."

The girls were made to wear figure hugging clothes at the event and 5 Cecilia Yeung and 8 Winnie Shum were soon picked out as needing the slimming treatment the most.

Cecilia admitted that she would most like to lose fat from her arms, abdomen and thighs. Although she is only 102 lbs, she has a small frame so has plenty of flesh on her. She says: "My waist is actually only 25 inches, but because I am rather short, it is affecting the overall look. I hope I can lose two inches from my waist. (Do you think you are disadvantaged with a fuller figure?) I haven't slimmed yet, I am confident I will look better after the regime." When it was pointed out that she is leaving time short with them flying out to Kenya tomorrow for the location shoot, she says that she has already lost weight since the first meeting with the press and she is following the diet recommended, cutting out the fatty foods and then using the slimming machines when she returns from Kenya to try and get a much better figure in the least amount of time. Although she is still quite chubby, this does not affect her confidence.

When Winnie was asked which part she would most like to slim, she smiles: "The papers say I have a piggy belly, so I would like to lose that and the fat between my breast and my belly so I look better in a tube top." Although she is 120 lbs, she does not feel she is fat and says: "When you return from overseas, this is what you are like. I don't feel my figure is bad, but I will slim down. I don't hope to lose so much as long as my figure is proportionate. (Have some contestants are laughing at your bum being big?) I havent been laughed at."

2 Irene Yu weighs in at only 98 lbs, but says that her face looks a little chubby on camera and would like to retify this with the slimming regime.

Mandy Cho and Kevin Cheng are not only filming together, but they have also been invited to shoot some advertisement shots for a wedding portrait company, but maybe as this was the first time for them both, their poses were rather wooden and Kevin kept wiping sweat from his brow. When he was asked if he was nervous, he said: "I'm not nervous, it is just very hot today. This is my first time so I don't want to disappoint anyone. (Does Mandy Cho meet your criteria?) Wow, she is Miss Hong kong, of course she is pretty, but the woman I marry does not necessarily have to be pretty."

Mandy Cho reveals that she has the urge to get married: "This is the first time I am making a wedding advertisement and it is good fun, I don't have a Prince Charming yet, but I hope to get married when I am thirty. (What is your dream wedding like?) It doesn't have to be lavish, but I would like to wear a Chinese wedding gown because you don't usually get to wear one. (Did you get a five figure sum for this job?) Yes."

Mandy Cho headed out earlier with Yau Hoi Man to South Africa to film a special show about diamonds and in the seven day tour, she visited diamond mines and diamond showrooms to look around. Mandy also had the chance to model some award winning designer jewellery and she says: "I took a black evening dress with me on purpose to match the jewellery because it looks very elegant in contrast." When asked if she has a collection of diamond jewellery, she says: "I have some, but they are not very big stones. On this trip I have seen many very beautiful stones and got to know a lot more about them."

Yau Hoi Man indicated that the weather there is quite cold, but they were only allowed to wear springtime clothes whilst filmimng so she had to take some tablets in case she caught a cold. She also revealed that she bought a Grade D diamond for US$7,900 (HK$60,000): "Originally the stone was valued at US$18,000, but after discount and haggling, I got it for this price."

As yesterday was the Dragon Boat Festival, there were many races throughout Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories and the three outgoing Miss Hong Kong winners, Mandy Cho, Rabee'a Yeung and Priscilla Chik were invited to many different places as guests to watch the races. Among them, Mandy Cho most admired the Shatin races. In the past, she has tried kayaking, but this is the first time she has watched a dragon boat race and she was feeling the heat as she joked: "This heated atmosphere can be smelled!"

Talking of TVB's Water Games next month, Mandy Cho says she will not be taking part because she was not in Hong Kong during the registration period and she had a drowning accident when she was younger, so she has a fear of swimming away from the side of the pool. As she does now know where she will be swimming at the competition, she would rather not swim.

Seeing a group of this year's Miss Hong Kong contestants, Mandy says she will miss the position, but she has decided to stay and further her career in entertainment and has signed a contract for several years with TVB. She says: "I did consider in the past whether I should continue my studies or stay in Hong Kong, but if I choose to study then it will be very difficult to re-enter showbiz again, so I finally decided to stay. As the company has given me many opportunities, I am afraid I will regret it if I don't give it a try as I can learn many new things and gain many experiences from the entertainment world. My parents are very supportive of my decision because the most important thing is that I am happy." Mandy was taking part in a slimming shoot with Daniel Wu and there have been suggestions that she acted like a doting fan flirting with him. She laughs: "Daniel is very handsome, I wouldn't use the word flirt. I guess I was more attracted to the child actor because he was cuter!"

Rabee'a was awarding prizes at the races in Tai Po and although this is also her first Dragon Boat Race, she still celebrated the festival in Canada because her grandmother would make rice parcels. She has obviously put on some weight after seeing her yesterday and she explains that she has had an infection in her wisdom teeth and her face is a little swollen. As for Priscilla Chik, she was the guest at the Tuen Mun races and she is also a Dragon Boat race debutante. Although she can do synchronised swimming, Priscilla will also not be taking part in the TVB Water Games because she has not swum for over ten years. Priscilla has also decided to stay on in showbiz and although she loves singing, she would like to try her luck in acting or hosting.

Parting Miss Hong Kong winners, Mandy Cho, Priscilla Chik, Selena Li and Carrie Lee took part in a promotion for TVB Pearl's broadcast of the Asia Cup Soccer Tournament and Mandy did play football as a child, but stopped when she grew older. She says that as a lot of football matches are aired at night, her sleep is more important to her so she does not watch much football, but she does like to watch footballers when she keeps her dad company, such as David Beckham and Portugal's Luis Figo. She will be supporting the Chinese team in the Asian competition.

Mandy works for the same slimming company as Joyce Cheng, who has recently returned to Hong Kong. However, Mandy says she has not seen Joyce apart from in the newspaper reports and hopes that she can meet her in person in the future. Mandy adds: "I don't know if she really does want to slim down to 100 lbs, but I feel she is a lot prettier now and I admire her determination. She has not only worked hard at keeping fit and dieting, I believe that she will be happier now when she goes out and maybe Lydia (Shum) will let her enter Miss Hong Kong next year!"

Priscilla says she is not too interested in soccer and she says she prefers diving and ice skating because they are more artistic sports. As for suggestions that the standards of this year's Miss Hong Kong contestants have fallen, Priscilla stands up for her sisters, saying: "I don't think so, because every year they choose different girls and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, you cannot please everyone in the world. I feel that the standards are not bad at all." She also indicates she will be extending her contract with TVB for a few years and progress her career in showbiz. When asked whether the opportunities for Miss Hong Kong's are very small, she says that this is not the case as everyone is doing different things. She is quite happy with her children's programmes at the moment.

[Ta Kung Pao]

Hong Kong's Disney Theme Park announced its promotional plans in conjunction with TVB yesterday in a grand launch to a string of promotional events. To start with, TVB Jade will be airing three special shows to introduce Hong Kong people to this fascinating world. At yesterday's press conference was TVB Manager Cheng Sin Keung and HK Disneyland Marketing and Sales Deputy Managing Director Chan King Hau together with a group of TVB artistes all there to help with the promotion, including Timmy Hung, Carlo Ng, Annie Man, Mandy Cho, Linda Chung, Rabee'a Yeung, Carrie Lee and Selena Li.

Mr Cheng indicated that this is the first step of promotional activity for Hong Kong Disneyland and TVB are honoured to be on board as a partner. In order to bring the Hong Kong Public closer to this amazing world, Disney Hong Kong has sponsored TVB in buying the airing rights to many Disney cartoons that will also bring many benefits to the company.

Among Disney's cartoon character, Mandy Cho says that her favourite is Cinderella and when asked if she felt she was like Cinderella in real life, she joked: "Although there are three sisters in my family, we are all real sisters. (Are you like Cinderella in that you have to be home before midnight every day?) In the past it was like that!" She has been to the Disneylands in Tokyo and America and she loves all the rides there because no matter how many times they spin around, it does not frighten her.

Linda Chung's favourite character is Nemo from "Finding Nemo". She also likes "Beauty and the Beast" as she believes that appearances are not important, the most important thing is a good heart, so she will be looking for inner beauty when she seeks her other half. Linda has never been to any of the Disneylands, so she is waiting for the Hong Kong one to open so she can go along and support it.

Rabee'a Yeung will be away from Hong Kong for six months of this year because she will be away filming for travel shows, however she does not mind because it will be fun and she is happy. So that people do not realise she is always away, she has asked a relative to collect her mail for her regularly. When it was mentioned that she seems to have put on some weight, she says tha she has been doing exercise and swimming, but has paid little attention to whether her weight has gone up. Also she adds that she has been filming some ads for a slimming tea. As for her favourite Disney character, she loves the Sleeping Beauty and owns many items with her pictures on.

Miss Hong Kongs Mandy Cho, Rabee'a Yeung and Priscilla Chik were the guests at the Tai Po Interactive Nature Centre for a TVB Children's Festival event, playing games with the children, but as the weather was extremely hot, they were covered in sweat and Mandy Cho indicated that she was not worried about heatstroke, but more worried about getting a tan in the strong sunshine, because she will be filming an ancient drama shortly, playing a conceited and stubborn Tang Dynasty lady. She laughs: "Since when do Tang Dynasty ladies have such a dark tan? (But Tang costumes are quite sexy!) That would be good, because I don't need to wear such a heavy costume in the summer and it will be very floaty." Next week, Mandy will hand over her Miss Hong Kong title and she will be a guest performer on the night of the final in a song and dance item. Mandy says: "I am not very good at dancing, so I will spend more time on rehearsals."

As for Rabee'a, she will soon be joining Bobo Chan and Annie Man in hosting a food show, focusing on vegetarian gourmet. She laughs that she has 'a face for food' so the company keeps sending her to host this type of show. When asked if she has ever tried any revolting food, she says: "I have not me this yet, maybe because I will eat anything. I like Durian cake and 'smelly tofu' and in Taiwan, I have eaten worms that are like shrimp sticks. (Would you dare to eat a rat?) It would depend on how it had been prepared, I would give it a try as long as it is hygienic."

[Ta Kung Pao 20/08/04]

With the Mid-Autumn festival approaching, slimming company boss Shirley Cheung has led her band of spokespersons including Nat Chan, Mandy Cho, Linda Chung, Mandy Tseung and Chan Wing Yin to hand out mooncakes at an old folks home. The event was supposed to start at 10 am, but the group was very late, leaving all the pensioners waiting for 45 minutes. A total of 200 boxes of mooncakes were passed out.

Among the stars, Linda Chung proved to be the most popular and many of the grannies called her by her character name from "Virtues of Harmony" - 'Hung Pak Lam' as well as fighting to have their photo taken with her, making her very happy indeed. Recently there have been reports that Hawick Lau has been holding hands with a girl resembling her in public, Linda denies this, but does admit accepting a lift from him after work sometimes because it is dangerous for a girl to go home by taxi at night. She also praises Hawick for being friendly and caring for newcomers, but she does not see any intentions of courting her.

Also, Mandy Cho found herself on the cover of a magazine after her rather steamy dance routine with Moses at the Miss Hong Kong final with suggestions that Moses was stroking her behind throughout the dance. Mandy says that she hopes that people will not look at this with coloured lenses and she would never have imagined that the magazines would change the name of the routine or publish the still frames. As for whether she felt Moses's hand on her bottom, she says it was just the camera angle and the still frame is different from what the live audience saw, so she hopes that this can be taken in the correct light.

[Ta Kung Pao 25/08/04]

TVB's new series "Courageous Kunlun" held its costume fitting yesterday and cast members include Ron Ng, Sammul Chan, Mandy Cho, Joyce Koi, Louisa So and Yuen Wah. When they each introduced their characters, Mandy ended up speaking in English and was met with a rather hasty reminder from co-producer of the series Catherine Tsang that this was an ancient drama. As for suggestions that this is the ancient version of "My Sassy Girl", Catherine and producter Tommy Leung denied this, saying that this story tells about brotherly love and is a true martial arts series. As for the termination of "Virtues of Harmony" at the beginning of next year, there will be a space of five or six months before the new format sitcom will be decided. When asked why this was being axed, Catherine says that with the show breaking 800 episodes, the crew need to take a rest.

Having grown up abroad, Mandy often adds some English into her Chinese speaking and when asked if she was worried about speaking English during filming, she laughs: "Of course not, but there is always a difference in the language of ancient shows, so I have to work hard on my Chinese as well as learn some gestures from 'War and Beauty'." With this her first time filming an ancient drama, Mandy smiles that she has dreamed of being an ancient person since she was young and she finds her costume very fresh and cute. In the show she plays a rich and conceited lady who is caught between Ron and Sammul. When asked if she was afraid of starting rumours, she laughs: "I am not worried, it is just work. (But it is easy to have rumours with Sammul.) We have worked together before whilst promoting the Miss Hong Kong pageant and the most important thing is working happily together."

Ron takes on another series after completing "Police Cadet Brave Heart" and smiles: "None of the other male stars are in Hong Kong, that's why! It's not too hard work because I have had two to three weeks rest and I am working with a lot of people for the first time, such as Yuen Wah and Joyce Koi, so I am quite excited." It turns out that his character not only has a speech impediment, but also has some marks on his face, so will he not be appearing with his good looks this time? He laughs: "I will only be ugly for a few episodes. (Are you making a sacrifice for your art?) I don't mind, I am quite interested. At the moment, I am practicing my lisp at home."

One of Sammul's costumes in the show makes him look like Nicky wu and upon hearing this, he was very happy because he feels that Nicky is quite stylish. In the series, he will be fighting with Ron over Mandy and he laughs: "She is not bad, Miss Hong Kong winner after all!" As well as romance, there will also be a lot of fighting scenes and as he has learned some swordplay before hand, he will be taking the chance to learn some punching this time.

Talking of him being a gossip magnet, especially with his most recent news around his arguments with Fiona Sit in "Police Cadet", is he worried about creating more gossip in this show? Sammul laughs: "Let bygones be bygones, although there will be gossip as long as there are people, I am not afraid because I am true with myself. Anyway, from another point of view, gossip can be a good thing because you can see it as promotion."

Louisa So woll be playing the bad guy in the series in a role that is outwardly good but inwardly evil. Although she is an outstanding actor, this is her first time as the evil character, so she has been watching a lot of these roles lately to get into character.

(Additional images from The Sun & Oriental Daily)

On Sunday night, a host of stars including Gigi Lai, Michelle Ye, Yu On On, Shirley Yeung, Leo Ku, Mandy Cho, Christine Au Yeung, Marsha Yuen, Nancy Wu, Natalie Tong, Lily Lei and Sheila Chan took part in the "International Stylists Competition 2004" Hong Kong Contest Final as models for the entrants, each displaying a highly inspired hair creation by the entrants.

Among them, Gigi's green explosion was very eyecatching, but did not spark as much attention as her revealing dress on the stage. Leo Ku and Mandy Cho appeared in wedding outfits, seeming very in tune and well matched. Leo indicated that after filming the music video for his song 'Special Move' with her earlier, this is the second time he has worked with Mandy and with only one rehearsal earlier in the afternoon, it is fortunate that they have a good understanding. Leo describes his appearance as a prince from a Greek legend and says laughingly: "If I look so good, then I'd better get married soon."

Mandy's hairstyle took eight hours to create and luckily she earned the praises from many, with some people even saying she made a 'perfect couple' with Leo. She explains that this was arrangement by the organisers and not Leo's choice, making it clear that she does not know him very well and has never met with him in private. However, she praises Leo for being very chivalrous, giving her a hand when he saw her nearly falling over on the stage.

[Oriental Daily 08/09/04]

Ron Ng, Mandy Cho, Sammul Chan and Joyce Koi started the first day of filming for new series "Courageous Kunlun" yesterday and in the show, Ron has to play the 'ugly kid' for a few episodes and revealing his costume for the first time yesterday, Ron had a birthmark glued to the left side of his face, but this did not seem to affect his good looks.

Having captured many a young girl's heart with his handsome appearance, Ron seems rather concerned about his 'exploding face' look, laughingly asking the reporters: "Am I very good looking?", but then complaining: "It's very itchy and when I started work early this morning, it was very sunny, so I wonder if there will be a patch from my tan, if there is a mark, I will have to tan it back quickly." (Are you afraid it will affect your pretty boy image?) No, this is only for four or five episodes, afterwards I am cured by Joyce."

Also, with this being Mandy's first ancient drama and working opposite Sammul and Ron, she says she is not worried that the playful duo will play tricks on her, but when the three were asked to pose for a photo, Sammul took the camera and chased Mandy, frantically snapping away and making her laugh uncontrollably. Then, when she was asked to pose with Ron and hold his hand, he refused using 'sweaty palms' as an excuse, so Mandy had to just put her arm on his shoulder instead.

Although this was the first day of filming, Mandy seemed to have a number of spots on her face and she says: "I have been to see a herbalist and he says that this is just something young people have. I find that when I am resting at home, it worsens, maybe because my metabolism slows when I am not working, so after starting work, it should become better.

[Ta Kung Pao & The Sun 24/09/04]

TVB's New Series "Courageous Kunlun" held its blessing ceremony yesterday and cast members present included Ron Ng, Sammul Chan, Mandy Cho, Joyce Koi and Louisa So.

With reports earlier that Sammul Chan was suffering from a pigmentation problem in his skin, causing white marks on his face, he explained his condition saying: "I have been to see teh doctor and it is not a pigment problem. The main problem is that I rarely sunbathed in the past and I have very fair skin, but I was overexposed to the sun in the three months I was filming for 'Police Cadet Brave Hearts', which left my skin very irritable and with sweat marks. The doctor has given me ointment for it, but it will take time to get better." Sammul says he does not mind the rumours, but he does mind the rather unsightly photographs published by the magazines. He currently has sponsorship contracts with skincare and cosmetics companies, but they are aware of his problem and this has not affected his working contract with them.

Ron supports his friend saying: "He does not like sunbathing, but when we were filming for 'Police Cadet' he had no choice and he did not know how to treat his skin, so these marks appeared, but he is getting better now." Ron has recently made a watch advert and although he did not wear anything on his upper body, he did not reveal his nipples in the ad. Reports indicate that is was prohibited by TVB, but Ron clarified this saying: "When I was filming for 'Twin of Brothers', I showed my bottom on the screen, so why would I be afraid of showing my nipples? I would only be embarrassed if they asked me to reveal everything." As for the ad, was he embarrassed about the proximity to the naked female model Erica V? He says that there was no awkwardness because it was just work.

Mandy Cho plays a conceited girl in the show and she says: "I have been instructed to be conceited, so if people say that I am like that, it is just because I am entering the character. (Do you have any sparks with Ron?) Not yet. (Will he give you a lift after work?) I have my own caar, but even if I did not, then I would not take lifts and would rather get a taxi because it is more convenient."

[Ta Kung Pao & The Sun 01/10/04]

"War and Beauty" will finish airing on Saturday and the next series to air will be the TVB and Thai joint production "Split Second". The show's cast, including Patrick Tam, Kevin Cheng, Moses Chan, Mandy Cho, Lai Lok Yi and Marco Ngai took part in a war game promotion for the show yesterday where they were split into two games for a paintball match. Eventually Mandy, Kevin and Lok Yi's team lost and had to give up their backs as a target for the winning team to fire at them. Afterwards, Mandy indicated that her legs and thighs were hurting but she dare not turn around for fear of being hit in the face.

This is Mandy's first appearance in a series and although she does not have a very big part, she still hopes for good ratings. Kevin and Lok Yi really looked after her whilst filming and this made her very happy indeed as she felt very fortunate.

As for the show being aired straight after the highly popular "War", Kevin admits that he feels some pressure, but he will just have to see how the ratings go. He says: "After all the two shows are very different, one is very feminine and the other is more masculine. We all had a very happy time filming and we enjoyed the experience, so we feel we have already won." Talking of there being a lot of gossip in the female shows, but there being no gossip in this 'masculine' show, will this mean they lose out on the promotional stakes? Kevin says: "Men fight more openly! They wouldn't be so jealous or devious because that just looks bad!"

Patrick Tam has just finished filming the new Jackie Chan movie "King Tin Juen Kei" (Direct Translation: "Amazing Legend") and he says that Jackie arranged for a fast food trailer on the set for them, just like they do in Hollywood and this opened his eyes because he has never been treated this well. Later, Patrick will be heading back to the mainland to film CCTV production "Yang Nai Wu and Xiao Bai Cai" where he will star opposite Christy Chung in the title roles. It will be at least next year before he returns to film for TVB again.

Talking of the recent incident of 'acting becoming reality' [Ref: Dicky Cheung and Nicholas Tse were accused of beating up some Mainland actors off camera.], Patrick indicates that he will would like to see how Dicky is and as for one of the victims Wang Bai Zhao feeling that their apology was insincere and insisting on taking the incident to court, Patrick says: "As a friend, I would urge Dicky to write another notice because there is no point in ruining one's career in the mainland. There are often injuries during filming and as for whether it was intentional or not, then this is hard to tell because as an actor, you do not wish for NG's (retakes), otherwise you will be be even more injured with the extra blows. (Some people feel that Dicky does not respect Mainland actors?) I have worked with Dicky before in 'Duke of Mount Deer 2000' and from what I know of him, he is not that kind of person. He is very friendly to even the actors playing the smallest roles."

Also, with his role in "Split Second", Patrick says that he does have hopes for each show that is aired and this time, his hopes are even greater because he has quite a large role. Talking of the audience seemingly preferring the more feminine shows, he laughs: "I believe that the company will have calculated it correctly, after all series have to be varied and I hope that the men will not let us down. (Do you feel pressure from what can be gained?) Of course, I hope it will not be far off the ratings for 'War and Beauty'."

[Ta Kung Pao 02/11/04]

TVB's Anniversary Celebration is approaching and all the artistes have begun to prepare for their performances on the night. Among them, Bernice Liu, Shirley Yeung, Mandy Cho and Winnie Yeung were in TVB City yesterday rehearsing a drum dancing routine.

Bernice indicates that she has already been practising for three days and she says that the teacher has encouraged them to rehearse more by giving them some little drums. As the drums weight between eight and ten pounds and they have to turn rather quickly for the routine, it is quite difficult and her hands are red from the practice. As well as playing the drums, Bernice will also be doing a wire act with Raymond Lam and she began rehearsing that yesterday. As she will be hanging from the wire for seven hours, she dare not eat too much in case she feels sick.

When it was mentioned that she did the wire piece with Bosco last year and now she has to do it again this year, she laughs: "Maybe the company feels I am okay with this because I am crazy and don't mind hard work!" Although Bernice is afraid of heights, she rarely has a chance to do wire workk usually, so she is still happy to be able to do the wire piece and has ordered a pair of special trousers for this from America. She says: "I tried wearing them last year and they are very safe, so even though they cost about $10,000, for the sake of my hip injury and for safety, my father has bought them for me."

Mandy admits she has a very poor sense of rhythm and as the drum is rather heavy, she is finding it all rather hard. When asked if she has been for a massage to relax, she laughs: "We have bought a massage chair for our home, but it is rather popular, so it has not been vacated at all."

As well as the drumming item for the celebration, Shirley will also be taking part in an act entitled "Wind, Fire, Thunder and Lightning". When asked if she has prepared an outfit for the evening, she says that she has a sponsor for her dress, but she has not discussed this properly yet and she does not have anything for accessories and jewellery yet. As for TVB preparing sponsorships for the MC's and senior ladies in the company, totalling $100 million, Shirley says that value is not important as long as it looks good.

[Oriental Daily 03/11/04]

Mandy Cho, Ron Ng and Sammul Chan were filming in TVB City for "Courageous Kunlun" yesterday and having been accused earlier of acts such as NG's, frowning and talking in English, Mandy seemed to be keeping out of Ron and Sammul's way as they did not speak to each other throughout the shoot and just spoke to Louisa So. She explained about this, saying: "There is nothing. If were have not fallen out then there are rumours, there isn't anything really, just work. If we're happy then we will be friends. (Are you always speaking in English?) There is no English in the script so why would I? The storyline is rather relaxed. (Are you just too direct when you speak?) I do have a chat and a laugh with the crew and we get on very happily. Kwok Fung plays my father and he has taught me a lot of things."

Mandy feels that the 'three crimes' report is someone out to get her and as for whether she is always having NG's all the time, she explains that it is rather hard work in an ancient drama because the language is very classical with lot of literary phrases and she finds this hard to handle and this leads to NG's. Later on she has really put her heart into the performance and has made some improvements now.

[The Sun & Oriental Daily 07/11/04]

***WARNING: SPOILERS FOR "SPLIT SECOND"***

TVB series "Split Second" has stirred up much criticism since it has been aired. Reader Ms Lo complains that the storyline is illogical and the suggestion that the Chief of Police played by Ko Hung received bribes is detrimental to the image of the police force.

Miss Lo goes on to point out that as the ICAC was established in 1974, there was a pardon issued for all the police officers at the time who received bribes, so if Ko Hung's character received bribes in 1973, then there is no reason for this to be held against him. As for a Criminal Intelligence Bureau Senior Inspector (played by Kevin Cheng) to interview and investigate a Chief of Police, then this is the wrong procedure.

The show's producer Lo Wing Yin responds saying: "Ms Lo seems to know the storyline so well, so she must be a super fan of the show. However she needs to be more patient and watch the rest of the show to find out that Ko Hung has been set up and it will not affect the image of the police force. When we filmed the show, we did all our research beforehand and if there are any more doubts, we will investigate this further and respond to the viewers comments."

[Oriental Daily & The Sun 15/11/04]

After their water kissing scene, Ron Ng and Mandy Cho were filming earlier for "Courageous Kunlun" in a final fire scene, where Ron has to rescue Mandy and overcome his pyromania, rushing into the danger of a burning building to bring her to safety, but burning his left leg in the process. Although the scene was rather dangerous, Ron was still willing to do the scene himself, but with a number of NG's during filming, Ron's leg was set alight ten times. He says: "Actually there are full safety precautions and there are plenty of people on hand to help. I had also sprayed water all over my shoes, so I would not have been burned. However, with the fire being there for so long, the water was heated up and I think it was at least in the thirties."

When Ron was asked if the NG's were caused by Mandy, he supported her, saying: "It is nothing to do with that, sometimes with filming, you have to try things before you know if they work or not and she has improved a lot. At least she is not covering the light, after all she is not from the classes and a lot of things have to be learned on the job, so we cannot expect too much from her."

In the story, Ron and his good brother Sammul Chan are turned against each other by Mandy's character, but Ron laughs that the same thing has not happen in real life. When asked if Mandy was the type of girl he likes, Ron says with much execution: "Not my type! I don't like girls who are too pretty, but I don't like girls who are too ugly either. The best thing would be if she can cook dinner." Mandy had men trying to court her whilst she was studying in America, including Mexicans, Spanish and Americans, but she was already dating at the time and did not give them a chance."

[The Sun & Oriental Daily 19/11/04]

Bernice Liu, Raymond Lam, Mandy Cho and Ellesmere Choy will be appearing in a 'Net Dance' at the anniversary tonight and earlier they were all rehearsing carefully using new nets. Although she did not have to rehears, Bernice was watching the others carefully and exchanging tips with Raymond. Raymond says: "I know that Shirley Yeung has injured herself and this act is quite dangerous, so the stunt co-ordinator has said that if anything happens, to grab hold of a net. I have tried the new nets twice and it is not as difficult as I had imagined." He also laughs: "When I am performing, my life will be in the hands of the wire masters, so I will just have to be brave and do it. To work for TVB, you have to be omnipotent!"

Talking of Shirley's accident, Bernice says: "I am always very careful because no-one wants to get hurt. Each time I get on the nets, I am very worried because this is all about teamwork and Raymond and I have to work with other people to do this." She aso feels that each act has its difficulties and Shirley's balance dance is not easy for a non-professional dancer.

Mandy does not need to be hoisted high in this performance, but she does have to dance on the shoulders of a dancer. She says: "I will have to wear a short skirt and a tight top for this. (Are you afraid of revealing yourself?) I will wear something underneath, so there is nothing to see. When we rehearse, there is a soft landing, but when we do the performance, there will not be anything there."

During the rehearsal, Carlo Ng and Ellesmere often crashed into each other when they were on the wires and Carlo accidentally kicked Ellesmere in the groin. Afterwards, fearful that Ellesmere would kick him back, he kept holding onto himself and caused an amusing scene.
