The preparation of Hyun Bin's new movie, Millionaire's First Love, has been popular as it is directed by the director of 'Lovers in Paris', screenwriter of 'Romance of Their Own', and with the themesong, One, sung by popular group Dong Bang Shin Ki.

In Millionaire's First Love, it talks about Hyun Bin wanting to continue inheriting his grandfather's property and money. He is forced by his family to go to a village university and has developed an affection with village girl Li Yin Hei. To match his millionaire's style, the director had prepared 10 pieces of expensive outfits for him. Hyun Bin joked that being able to try on such expensive clothings, makes him wants to crave for one. In the movie, he will have a fight scene with 17 people, like the big student fight in 'Romance on Their Own'.

The movie is planned to be released on February 9, hoping to attract couples near Valentine's Day.

WOW... The poster of this movie "A Millionaires First Love" is awesome!!! I hope this movie is interesting and very touching too. Jerry is a HOTTIE in this movie!!!!! Too bad this movie is not in Cantonese...

lol there will probably be a Cantonese version of the movie. All Korean movies where I live are dubbed into Cantonese (only Cantonese though, hardly any of them are dubbed in Mandarin... which is strange since most series are dubbed into Mandarin, not Cantonese). But yea... all the Korean movies I have are English subtitled and have the option of Cantonese audio.

The girl is really pretty. She's been in DBSK's music video.... that's where I first noticed her!! She definitely didn't look her age in that video then... and she doesn't look 18 now lol.... looks more around Hyun Bin's age, like 21 or 22

HERE GOES A REVIEW OF A MILLIONAIRE'S FIRST LOVE.
this movie is showing in korea TODAY (feb9)!
`````````````````````````````
http://www.koreaherald.co.kr/SITE/data/img...00602080023.gif
'A Millionaire's First Love' offers melodrama for Valentine's Day couples
Because "A Millionaire's First Love" (Baekmanjangja-ui cheot-sarang) stars Hyun Bin, Korea's emerging heartthrob, and because it's about his millionaire-to-be character falling in love with a poor yet beautiful girl, it is not surprising that its release comes just a week ahead of Valentine's Day.
It is however, surprising that the filmmakers and promoters have pulled off a cast which includes Hyun Bin, who is now appearing in a popular television ad for a mobile phone named "chocolate," a popular symbol for Valentine's Day.
It is not hard to imagine why the film's promoters desperately want Hyun's "chocolate" image combined with the extremely marketing-laden yearly event to turn "A Millionaire's First Love" into the movie of choice for young couples.
The problem with most Valentine's Day chocolate presents is that you end up paying far more for the elaborate and enticing packaging, rather than the actual slice of sweet chocolate. Something similar is happening in this typical melodrama movie directed by Kim Tae-kyun, though the appeal of the film's packaging may vary from person to person.
Hyun stars as a good-looking, freewheeling and I-don't-care-what-you-think high school student, Jae-kyeong, who is to receive a huge inheritance on his 19th birthday. But it's not a done deal: his foresighted grandfather attaches a precondition on the inheritance, and under the legally binding clause, Jae-kyeong has to move to the countryside and graduate without any trouble.
This sounds preposterous for a wayward kid who only knows the comforts of his fancy imported car and doesn't have any interest in attending classes, much less ones in the countryside.
The family lawyer, however, remains firm, showing no intention to compromise; Jae-kyeong finally heads for the much-dreaded small school in a rural area. But before his departure, there is a chance meeting with a girl named Eun-hwan, played by Lee Youn-hee. They meet in the lobby of a hotel owned by the deceased millionaire, and the proud heir mistakes her for a call-girl.
At the least, that's what the director had in mind when he shot the scene. But it fails miserably because Eun-hwan's incongruous appearance and the ensuing dialogue just escapes most audiences.
It turns out that she's also a student who attends same rural school where Jae-kyeong is supposed to study. The formula is not that creative, even by the standards of comic strips for girls (a rich, good-looking boy falling in love with a poor yet pure-hearted girl is the most favorite theme in the genre). Nor is it intricate in its own right when it comes to how the director gets the plot going.
As expected, there is a twist in the plot - a conventional device in knight-in-shining-armor tales. But it's also predictable if you're familiar with the genre and the director scatters obvious signs and suggestions almost everywhere.
What's important, however, is not the movie's tackiness. What is highly likely to rivet the audiences (especially male viewers) is the innocent image of actress Lee Youn-hee. Her smile is disarming and her delicate features spruce up the otherwise dull storyline dramatically.
At one point, she spends some time with her hero in an open field, with a ray of sunlight descending upon her shoulders. The scene is a romantic portrait of two lovers with every key element in place: a beautiful, innocent-looking girl is strolling leisurely with a handsome boy on a peaceful autumn day.
The movie's storytelling technique is dull and cliche-laden; yet the superficial packaging deserves some credits thanks largely to the sparkling eyes of Lee and her attention-grabbing features.
Of course, it's entirely up to the romance-seeking couples to favor the packaging over the substance in this convoluted melodrama. After all, you don't care about the chocolate's sweetness on Valentine's Day as long as it comes in a beautiful package from your partner.
Kim Tae-gyoon’s Movies Have Teen Appeal
by Seung-Jae Lee
Kim's new movie, "A Millionaire's First Love", is obviously aimed at teenagers as well. The story is how a grandson of a chabeol family (played by Hyeon Bin) realizes true love by meeting Eun-hwan, a girl suffering from an incurable disease, played by Lee Yeon-hee, in a small village in Gangwon Province. The director's formula of pairing a star actor and a new actress to create a tear-jerking story of an incurable disease is the same one he used in "Romance of Their Own".
It is impossible to assess the new movie in a word. That is because Kim's films, which express teenage sensibilities through the keywords of romance, love and eternity, can be assessed differently depending on a viewer's age. This means that his movies can be seen as romantic and touching, or childish and unrealistic.
The following is what a teenage female fan of the movie might say about it:
"Oh, fabulous Hyeon Bin! He pulls out several checks from his wallet and throws them with a tired look. Under the terms of his grandfather's will, Hyeon Bin has to endure life in a rural high school in order for him to inherit hundreds of billions won. He is a prince who tastes the life of ordinary people for fun".
"Hyeon Bin in this movie is richer, more arrogant and hotter than 'Samshik', the character he played in 'My Lovely Samsoon' ("My Name is Kim Sam-soon"). It is fair to say that his character is an upgraded version of Samshik. He lives with Eun-hwan, who is dying from a disease, and takes care of her. He lets her head rest on his arm. That is exactly same as my dream of living with my loved one in a space for just the two of us".
She adds, "Hyeon Bin's lines for Eun-hwan are pure poetry. I couldn't breathe when he whispered to her, 'When I'm with you, the night turns to day. That's because you're so bright'. He puts woolen socks on Eun-hwan's feet, just like the prince put glass slippers onto Cinderella's. I would be so happy if I were Eun-hwan".
The following is what a man in his 30s, filled with dissatisfaction from the moment the movie started, might say:
"It is a comedy right from the title. Does it make any sense that a man would give up hundreds of billions of won because of love? And for some reason, it's always raining or snowing in the movie. The lines are too childish. I managed to endure it when Eun-hwan said, 'I feel like I will go to hell because I'm too happy'. But I felt sick when Hyeon Bin kissed Eun-hwan, saying, 'Do you know why people close their eyes when kissing? That is because the other person is too gorgeous'. I know that the author was the author of 'Lovers in Paris' and 'Lovers in Prague', but this 'prince story' is just too unrealistic".
"I accept that Hyeon Bin is good-looking. But what's the difference from 'My Lovely Samsoon' ("My Name is Kim Sam-soon")? And there is no story in this movie. The movie just tries to make audience cry. Repeating lines similar to ballad song lyrics, the movie just continues on until the audience cries. It is an old tear-jerking movie".
"The only valuable element of this movie is actress Lee Yeon-hee, who plays Eun-hwan. She appears to be new to movies, but her performance is as good as that of Hyeon Bin. When smiling, she looks innocent and experienced at the same time, which is so attractive. Oh, how I wish I could go back to my teens…"
Korean Box Office Report - February 10/12
(Posted In Asia Box Office )
rickybox.jpgIt was 1993, the year when Im Kwon-Taek's 서편제 (Sopyonje) started its legendary run, to usher in the era of the 'Million seller' films in Chungmuro. Yet, for someone who seemed to be destined to remain an eternal (yet memorable) supporting actor, the other big hit of the year was much more important. The comedy 투캅스 (Two Cops) might have been Kang Woo-Suk's calling card to fame, thanks to Park Joong-Hoon and Ahn Sung-Gi's star power, but it was also the start of a talented actor's career, albeit for a few seconds. Playing the cop who salutes Park Joong-Hoon on his way to the station, Kim Soo-Ro started a journey which, 13 years later, would finally bring him to leading roles. He's done them all: a quick-tempered Chinese food delivery man in 주유소 습격사건 (Attack The Gas Station), a formidable technical wrestler in 반칙왕 (The Foul King), a smarmy high school jjang in 화산고 (Volcano High); he camouflaged himself as legendary rocker Seo Taiji not to reveal he was a terrorist, in the parody 재밌는 영화 (Fun Movie), and even an unlikely father in Min Gyu-Dong's glorious 'Magnolia without frogs', last year's 내 생애 가장 아름다운 일주일 (All For Love). But none of those were leading roles. Their importance kept increasing though, as people started noticing he wasn't just a funny face, and eventually he got his chance to shine with a solo leading role.
Stories of popular character actors failing on their solo leading projects are numerous, from Park Sang-Myun to Jung Woong-In and many others. But some of them made it, like a certain Song Kang-Ho, who after a succession of rapid-fire cult roles in black comedies -- 넘버 3 (No. 3) and 조용한 가족 (The Quiet Family) -- and blockbusters -- 쉬리 (Shiri) -- hit the jackpot in 2000 with two films, Park Chan-Wook's 공동경비구역 JSA (Joint Security Area) and Kim Ji-Woon's 반칙왕 (The Foul King). Kim's career path is quite similar to Song's, both theater trained and taking every possible chance to shine even with the smallest of roles, and of course both masters of ad-lib and comic timing. But when it comes to films essentially wrapped around your image, then things start to get a little complicated. While it had a strong cast of talented folks, including Oh Gwang-Rok and Son Byung-Ho, Lee Si-Myung's 흡혈형사 나도열 (Vampire Cop Ricky) wasn't exactly a shoe in as most promising box office hit of the month, what with the monster success of Lee Joon-Ik's 왕의 남자 (The King and The Clown), the 5 Million + of hit comedy 투사부일체 (My Boss, My Teacher), and potentially strong competition from Spielberg's latest project Munich.
But in another, pleasant surprise, the 'vampire superhero action comedy' beat them all, landing at No. 1 this week. Triumph of acting over pretty faces and stars who can't venture out of their fixed images? I don't know, but there's been a trend investing the industry in recent months: producers are starting to realize the potential of talented supporting actors, offering them leading roles. This was unthinkable just a half decade ago, when most films would live and die by their cast. Things haven't changed THAT much (i.e. Im Kwon-Taek's latest project and its casting/investment controversy), but casting known faces who can act is much more convenient than banking everything on a pretty star with a huge guarantee, hoping her or his popularity will overcome all the manipulative tactics used to fully milk the cash cow. With most bulky, oversized and overblown blockbusters flopping at the box office, Chungmuro has realized they can do without huge stars and huge budgets. Shin Yi and Choi Sung-Guk, mainstays of the comedy genre (Shin Yi seemed to be in EVERY single comedy last year, even if only for a few minutes) have been given the lead roles for the upcoming 구세주 (Oh! My God); Sung Ji-Roo, super talented and outrageously underrated, will make his debut as a lead in decades of acting, in the well received 손님은 왕이다 (The Customer is Always Right). Hell, most shocking of them all, veteran Choi Su-Bong, the Korean Takenaka Naoto, will star as a lead in 무도리 (Mudori), so it's pretty clear something's changing in Korean Cinema, and at a pretty impressive rate. Next thing you know, even Gi Ju-Bong will get a leading role...
Fans of the industry should feel relieved that all this success which hit Chungmuro since last Summer hasn't gotten to producers' heads, as many upcoming projects work on low-to-mid sized budgets. But of course this trend could cause a side effect, that of reverting to the 2002 post-blockbuster bubble situation, when few investors were willing to risk on something other than safe gangster comedies with big stars, or projects by acclaimed directors. Lee Si-Myung's second film after 2002's 2009 로스트 메모리즈 (2009 Lost Memories) took advantage of Showbox's predictably aggressive marketing, with a release of over 300 screens nationwide, and sold almost 150,000 tickets in Seoul over the weekend, for a nationwide total of nearly 600,000. Add paid advanced screenings to the figure, and the film sold around 750,000 in just three days. This is pretty impressive, and even though the film wasn't received too warmly (Although some critics are unfavorably comparing this to Hollywood superhero blockbusters like Batman. Of course I haven't seen the film, but something tells me they're wildly off the mark), Kim Soo-Ro's star power should allow for smooth sailing, at least for a couple of weeks. Lots of strong competition, including next week's 구세주 (Oh! My God), but I'm betting on a box office run around the 2-2.5 Million, quite good for Kim's first solo lead, and this will surely raise Director Lee's profile, after hitting jackpot twice in a row.
But of course the biggest news of the week was about a little film called 왕의 남자 (The King and The Clown). It seems Lee Joon-Ik and co. will make us wait quite a bit to get our hands on the DVD (rumoured to be a super-duper edition, but set for late Summer, alas). And why would they do that, you may ask? Because this thing is as hot as it gets. We reported about the film breaking the 10 Million barrier a few days ago, and that was enough to make it the third most successful domestic film of all time, but the run continues. The film is now enjoying a release of 60 screens in the capital, 285 nationwide, and sold 133,000 tickets over the weekend in Seoul, for a nationwide total of close to 500,000. We're now getting even closer to 실미도 (Silmido)'s 11 odd Million tickets, which the film could likely beat in a week-ten days (considering Valentine's Day, and school vacation). All this in a mere 7 weeks. Now a few figures: a recent report about the film's success by the Bank of Korea compared the financial impact of the film to that of creating 1,800 new jobs, selling around 3,000 Hyundai Sonata (the average Sonata costs around 18 Million Won), or in simple figures we can understand, a gain of a little over 135 Billion Won (the film itself making 59.4 Billion Won in profit). Man... that'd almost pay for Shim Hyung-Rae's 디워 (D-War), leave or take a few monsters.
Another film laughing all the way to the bank is the gangster comedy 투사부일체 (My Boss, My Teacher), a sequel of 2001's 두사부일체 (My Boss, My Hero). Critics wildly panned it, but it's still doing great, becoming the most successful Korean comedy of all time this week -- beating another gangster comedy, also a sequel, last year's 가문의 위기 (Marrying The Mafia 2). The film sold 60,000 tickets in Seoul, over 200,000 nationwide for a total of 5.75 Million, and although by now its run has slowed down considerably, its 240 screens should be enough to reach the 6 Million next week. Of course the success of this film can only mean Jung and co. will come back for a third installment next year or later, something which sounds a little less enticing than the third chapter of the 'Mafia' saga.
It was sour grapes instead for Spielberg's latest work, the controversial Munich. Certainly didn't do that bad, as 300,000 tickets is quite good for a Hollywood film without huge push (LOTR, King Kong, War of the Worlds types), but still disappointing considering the director's influence.Similar situation for Kim Tae-Gyun's new melodrama 백만장자의 첫사랑 (The Millionaire's First Love), which had a decent opening at around 300,000 tickets nationwide, but should get a huge push tomorrow with Valentine's Day, as it seems like the perfect date movie (then whether it's good or not, that's another story). 홀리데이 (Holiday) is about to conclude its run, a quite respectable 1.3 Million one, but one wonders how much the CGV CJ controversy affected the film's chances of success (it was only a matter of a few dozen screens, still...). Next week will see the release of the long awaited (?) comedy 구세주 (Oh! My God), starring Shin Yi and Choi Sung-Guk. Reviews were predictably negative, but it should have a decent opening, although I don't think it showed enough legs to last. Maybe a 1.5 Million run, or something in between.
She's like a week younger than me hahaha i dunno it's just weird to noe that she's sooo young! But i've gotta say she looks around 20 to 22 or maybe it's because of what she wears? I dunno but this movie defeniately looks yummy! I can't WAIT to see it!!! Hehe!
The OST of Hyun Bin and Lee Yun Hee's 'Millionaire's First Love' will be distributed on the 23rd of this month.
In the album, Hero from DBSG and the female lead Yun Hee will be singing a completely different styled song called 招呼 (Greeting) and also another version of that song by everyone of DBSG.
Not only that, but in the album will also have Hyun Bin and Yun Hee's splendid dialogues and background music from the movie. Ever since the screening of the movie on the 9th, it continued to receive the audiences' high praises.
A Millionaire's First Love' Sold to Japan
'A Millionaire's First Love' (Director: Kim, Tae-kyun; production: Boram Entertainment Inc.), an adolescent melodrama starred by Hyun, Bin, was sold to Japan for 1.5 million dollars.
"We have entered into a contract with Digital Adventure, an affiliated company of Softbank, Japan, to sell 'A Millionaire's First Love' for the minimum guarantee of 1.5 million dollars," an executive from Boram Entertainment Inc. announced on Feb. 16.
It is believed that the rising popularity of Hyun, Bin in Japan after the release of the hit drama, 'My Lovely Sam-Soon', in that country must have influenced the sale.
Boram Entertainment Inc. added that, "about fifty Japanese fans of Hyun, Bin, followed him all the time when he visited the theatre that premiered 'A Millionaire's First Love' to meet the audience on the stage on Feb. 11 and 12, which again proved the popularity of Hyun, Bin, in Japan."
Since its opening on Feb. 9, 'A Millionaire's First Love' has attracted 400,000
I'm not a fan of his hair in this one either. Korean guys change their hairstyle a lot. Even though I loved him with Kim Sun Ah, I think this new lead girl is cute. It won't be as funny, but I'm sure she'll be good since she is getting a lead role at such a young age with the popular Hyun Bin.
