I adore this woman! She such a great actress! And I totally loved her and Kwon Sang Woo in Stairway to Heaven. I seriously thought Kwon Sang Woo was just an "average" actor in Love So Divine and My Tutor Friend, but he totally proved himself in Stairway to Heaven. All those tear-jerking scenes were amazing! It's like his eyes could talk for him. Same goes for Choi Ji Woo... she was adorable as Han Jung Suh. Stairway to Heaven was a bit draggy in some places, but overall, it was a great series and a wonderful recommendation for a GOOD Korean melodrama (all the other ones are kinda annoying)

The same director of the new '101 Proposal' drama has proposed to Ji-Woo for another 20 episode drama...
'Stairway to Heaven' success seems to be the biggest reason, as well as having already worked with her.

Another proposal is from a Chinese film production company.

It's about 3 sisters and a dude (LBH) crossing paths. Along the way, the story is peppered with sex, secrets, naughthyness and everyone enjoying the 'secrets' shared wth LBH..oh yeah, there's also a small part about the brother of the 3 sisters. HeeHee. Try googling for VeryCD.
Got this movie straightaway after falling in love with CJW performace in Stairway to Heaven.

Beautiful Days - Behind the Scenes
During the filming of "Beautiful Days", there was once when Lee Byung-hun was smoking when he was taking a break. The cameraman playfully focused the camera on him, when he realised it, he laughed widely and commented: "Why do I always look so handsome ?" Because of his role as Min-chul, it is rare to witness his laughter, if one looks carefully, you will notice he bears a resemblance to American kid actor MacCaulay Culkin, it is no wonder his friends endeared him with that nickname.

In a scene when Lee Jung-hyun's character, Kim Sae-na was performing at an outdoor event, the crowd that had gathered there was actually Lee Jung-hyun's fans. News was spread prior to the filming and attracted a large crowd, the director even went on stage to instruct the crowd how to sway to the beat during Lee's performance.

As filming for "Beautiful Days" was still underway when the show was telecast, the success of the show attracted large groups of fans to the the outdoor filming grounds. Whenever there were scenes of Lee Byung-hun or Ryu Si-won, the crowd would scream loudly despite the constant reminders to remain silent.

Remember the scene when San-jae and Yeon-soo were at the amusement park, the moment when San-jae flipped open her cellular for her number, the phone number was flashed over the television screen. Fans immediately took down the number assuming it was really Choi Ji-woo's phone number and kept calling day and night. In actual fact, the phone belongs to a crew member. Once, when filming was in progress, the phone rang again; Ryu-Si Won snatched the phone and sang the drama's theme song to the caller.

SBS went to the Seoul Lotte World for an outdoor filming for the amusement park scene where San-jae and Yeon-soo were enjoying themselves on the rides. In actual fact, Choi Ji-woo was scared to tears and could not stop crying. Ryu Si-won had to hold her hand and console her like she was a child.


Lee Byung-hun talks about Beautiful Days
"For the past four months, I've been depending on vitamin pills to sustain my energy while working on "Beautiful Days", it is an arduous project, I felt like I was making 12 movies at the same time."

At the press conference for "Beautiful Days", Lee Byung-hun (31) expressed the tremendous pressure he felt while making the drama : at the completion of the last scene, the entire cast weeped tears of relief that the 24-parter drama has completed successfully, as for Lee, he just wished for a good sleep.

The arduous filming process had taken a toll on Lee's health which resulted in his admission to the emergency unit. And his only concern was that he " does not want his fans to worry over his health".

During the first three months of telecast, "Beautiful Days" rated a high of 25% and according to AC Neilsen, it further rose to a 30.9% ratings on the last episode.

However, Lee Byung-hun attributed the success to the entire cast, especially his co-star, Choi Ji-woo. He confessed that he once assumed " that she is an artiste who only has beauty but after working with her, I realised that she is very hardworking and eager to learn her trade well. She is also remarkably energetic that I pale in comparison to her. I was really taken aback when she revealed that her secret is eating 'wild goats' and she has to cheek to laugh about it and told me that 'drinking sake could mask the smell.'"

With reference to the kissing scene he shared with Choi Ji-woo, he said : "I didn't want to act for the sake of acting, even if it's false I want it to look real. As such I had to pour my entire feelings into it to project the right effect to the audience, anyway, Choi Ji-woo has no complains." (At this, the media roared with laughter)

At the end of the conference, Lee Byung-hun remarked, " How I wish to get married soon, I've even lost count of how many years I've been without a girlfriend, maybe I should start visiting the match-making agency! I'm getting old, I really should be getting married.


Charming Lee Byung-hun
"I once told the scriptwriter to refrain from scripting my character to perfection. A drama centered around a love affair is so run-of-the-mill and the dramatic scenes merely helps to garner high ratings. The ultimate reason for a viewer to follow the show to the end is the perfect leads."

Although it has an ordinary storyline, "Beautiful Days" has became an obsession for many female viewers. The arranged love triangle among the characters played by Lee Byung-hun, Choi Ji-woo and Ryu Si-won reflects the popularity of each of the cast. Lee Byung-hun's portrayal of the handsome and suave Lee Min-chul who has his heart set on Choi Ji-woo's character has won him the hearts of many female fans.

The role of Lee Min-chul was originally meant for another actor but after a meeting by the SBS management team, it was unanimously agreed that the role be given to Lee Byung hun. As such, the scriptwriter had to modify the role several times to better suit Lee Byung-hun. This was also the reason for emphasising the importance of Lee's role in the love triangle with Choi Ji-woo and Ryu Si-won.

"My role encases a great amount of charisma, it extends even to the decisive style that is clearly visible even in the speech, as such, I faced great pressure initially. I told the scriptwriter not to create a character that embodies only the good qualities. I'm glad that even Min-chul's speech and gestures differs as the story progresses. Such changes reflects the gentleness in him that has arised because of his attitude towards love."

The acceptance of Lee Min-chul by many female viewers could be due to the absence of such men in reality. Such attention was extended to his tinted hair and fringe, his impeccable dress style of black suits, red and blue-shaded ties and his white dress-shirts. All these further enhances the character.

With the success of "Beautiful Days", Lee Byung-hun naturally became the most interviewed artiste. However, wanting to retain the air of mystery as an artiste, he was only willing to answer questions pertaining to his career. As he has been slated to attend a film awards event this fall, we wonder about the air of mystery that we will sense through the camera lens.


Lee Byung-hun's realistic acting
Lee Byung-hun's role as Lee Min-chul in SBS "Beautiful Days" has sparked a string of interesting comments. His suave image coupled with his remarkable emotional portrayals have tingled the souls of most viewers.

His kissing scene with Choi Ji-woo and the crying scene after he learnt of his father's crime are two of the classic scenes that have warranted such views of his powerful acting.

Lee is probably the only actor who is able to deliver such a tremendous grief with his crying and projects the character's pain to the viewers and leave a lasting memory.

Choi Ji-woo is a forthright person and extremely loyal to relationships. She had directly told Ryu Si-won, "The person I admire most is Lee Byung-hun, I had learnt much from him from the kissing scene we shared in "Beautiful Days". To that, Ryu Si-won shook his head and gave a sigh, not forgetting to mumble his frustrations at Lee Byung-hun - jokingly.

When she first started her career, due to the intimate scenes shared with her leading co-stars, Choi Ji-woo was repeatedly faced with verbal attacks from fans of Jang Dong-gun, Ahn Jae-wook etc. "I was really depressed then but as I garnered my own fans, they started to fend off such remarks on my behalf."

As a CJW fan, plus being interested in her 1st foray into a international joint production, I caught "101st proposal". Here's my brief comments. I personally thought the entire series was draggy and painful to watch. It over-relies on the signature korean-style of direction with lots of flashbacks. Too much in fact! Eg. there could be as many as 3 flashbacks in one episode.

And, the chemistry between the co-stars was lacking. Perhaps it'd got to do with the storyline (I didn't catch the original jap drama nor the korean re-make.. .), so i can't comment much here. The character played by Sun Xing was just too frivolous and UN-believable. I was literally cringing all the way at his actics after episode 5 and clicking my mouse (fast fwding) at regular intervals.

Hmm, well.. i guess it was win-win for everyone involved except the tv viewers.
I could NOT recommend anyone to waste time catching "101st proposal" except for viewers like me (v.strong CJW fan AND w lotsa free hours to spare).

Positive & negative criticisms
Positive criticism- Some say they can sense maturity from me. But, I don’t think I am old enough to say I’m satisfied with anything. There aren’t any roles I’m dying to play, yet, nor are there any roles I can absolutely do better than others. I think I am at an age where I must do everything with a lot of effort. (Director Jang DuIk said, “She is an actress who has the potential that of an onion, which reveals new things as each layer is pealed.”

Negative criticism- I rarely hear any negative remarks when I am doing CF. But some people think the fact that I act is awkward. I suppose it could be because I haven’t yet done a lot of dramas or movies. And I also dislike hearing that I put my looks upfront. I am not even that pretty.

Favorite actress
For foreign actress, I really like Gwyneth Paltrow. She looks intelligent and cute at the same time, also sexy, and of course, has a lot of handsome boyfriends.. For Korean actress, I like Shim EunHa, because she is a great actress and also pretty.

An actress in a musical. However, since singing is very distant for her, she gave up this dream a long time ago. Although she is willing to star in any kind of genre if the drama or movie is good, she won’t ever work on a musical piece.

Choi Ji-woo to Star in Japanese Drama

Actress Choi Ji-woo will star in a Japanese television drama set to broadcast in January 2006. Choi, who became popular throughout Asia after starring in the local drama “Winter Sonata’’ with actor Bae Yong-joon, has agreed to act in a drama for the Japanese network TBS tentatively titled “Yunmugok,’’ according to reports.
Choi will act alongside Yutaka Takenouchi, who starred in the Japanese hit film, “Between Calmness and Passion.’’

While the script has yet to be completed, the drama is said to be a love story set in Seoul and Tokyo.

Choi will leave for Japan in November to begin shooting the drama.

I love Choi Ji Woo. She has a beautiful face, I've seen only two series from her they are 'stairs in Heaven' and 'Beautiful days, the first film was a sad ending story and the last one was happy ending film, but both made me cry a lot, esp. the 'stairs in heaven' BTY, I enjoy both films. I wondering JiWoo if she has acted any ancient film before, 'cos I found she quite suit to proformance the ancient time film too.

Actress Choi Ji-woo Stars in Joint Korean-Japanese TV Drama

A press conference introducing a joint Korean-Japanese television drama entitled "Circle Dance Music-Rondo" produced by TBS TV, a Japanese television network, was held at Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel in Tokyo, Japan on the afternoon of Dec. 19. The drama stars Choi Ji-woo and Japanese actor Yutaka Takenouchi.

The press conference began with Ayaka Hirahara singing one of the drama's title songs "I Believe." Together with Choi and Takenouchi, also attending the press interview were 14 major actors and production team members, including Korean actor Shin Hyun-joon and Korean actress and singer Lee Jung-hyun, and Japanese actress Yoshino Kimura, who has worked alongside Choi as PR ambassador for the "Year of Korea-Japan Visit."

In the drama, Choi plays a character with an indefatigable spirit who runs a Korean restaurant in Japan with her sister. Choi said, "It's my honor to act in a drama for which fans have high expectations. I have felt very burdened and worried. But during the shooting, I enjoyed working with an outstanding production staff, my partner Yutaka Takenouchi, and Shin Hyun-joon and Lee Jung-hyun, with whom I have worked together back in Korea. I believe this drama will be successful."

Takenouchi, who plays a character who falls in love with Choi's character in the drama, expressed his friendship with Choi, saying, "I have not been able to spend much time with Choi due to each other's busy schedules. This is the longest period of time I have spent alongside her. We had traditional Japanese stew together after filming in Fukuoka. I am going to introduce Japanese ramen noodles to Choi, as she has wanted to taste it."

Takenouchi said his greetings in Korean, "Anyong Haseyo?" He showed off his knowledge of some basic Korean expressions to Choi, saying, "How are you? I appreciate what you've done. Happy New Year!" in Korean.

Meanwhile, Shin plays a mysterious character in the early part of the drama as a Korean mafia boss. Lee plays Choi's stubborn sister who suffers from a heart disease.

The press conference, where about 300 Korean and Japanese journalists vied to cover the event, finished with singer Lee Seung-chul singing the drama's theme song "Sayonara." Introduced as the "top ballad singer," Lee Seung-chul said, "Today marks the 20th anniversary of my debut. I have experienced so many glorious moments over the past 20 years. But this very moment seems to me the best gift God has given me."

The first episode of the 11-part "Circle Dance Music-Rondo" will be aired on TBS TV on Jan. 15, 2006 at 9:00 p.m. and the drama will run for two months. Currently, Korean and Japanese broadcasters are discussing how to air the drama in Korea. An agreement has already been made to broadcast it in Taiwan.

Fresh Wave of Choi Ji-woo Fever Grips Japan

One of the leading figures of the Korean Wave in Japan, the actress Choi Ji-woo, is generating renewed frenzy in the island country with her upcoming appearance in a drama specially produced to mark the 50th anniversary of Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS). It goes on air on Jan. 15. Walls in every neighborhood in Tokyo are plastered with posters featuring Choi side-by-side with the male Japanese lead Yutaka Takenouchi.

Japan's fashion and celebrity magazines have kicked into overdrive with special articles on the drama, many running features on the shooting locations. This is the first time Choi has been involved in a Japanese production, while Takenouchi is making his return to the small screen after a 10-year absence. TBS has embarked on a PR blitz to hype the drama and its own 50th anniversary. Little wonder then that there is a major buzz surrounding the production. TBS will air “Rondo”, as the miniseries is called, in a primetime slot, 9 p.m. on Sunday. It has invested US$12 million in the drama at a cost of more than $1 million per episode, in itself a sensation in Japan.

The Japanese media expects “Rondo” with its combination of top stars and a massive budget to generate a similar phenomenon as the drama “Winter Sonata” that set off the Korean Wave. Experts anticipate that the drama will help stave off a backlash against the popularity of Korean pop culture, which some patriots feel has come at the expense of home-grown entertainment, by combining talent from both countries.

Deals with nine Asian countries have been completed, recouping almost all of the stellar production costs. Japanese experts foresee that the DVD and original soundtrack -- which includes a song by Korean singer Lee Seung-chul -- will rake in hundreds of billions of won in profits.

We all admire Korean actress Choi Ji Woo for being a classy lady but recently, Choi has been lauded by Hong Kong media for "good manners befitting a hallyu star."

A local newspaper wrote that when Choi arrived in the former Crown Colony on Monday, she was instantly recognizable despite the dark glasses she was wearing.

"The tall good-looking star displayed good manners to her fans, leaving the airport only after waving to or shaking hands with them," the report said about the star of the phenomenal hits Stairway to Heaven and Beautiful Days.

Choi was in Hong Kong as the Asian model for Christian Dior cosmetics. She graced the opening of a Christian Dior store in Kowloon. As befitting her status, the Korean star stayed at the Hong Kong Four Seasons. During her four-day visit, Choi even squeezed in shooting for a commercial into her already-tight schedule.
