Do you know Streamyx already start capping our P2P bandwidth?
When a company got total monopoly for this service, they dont care about the performance or service.
We just hope there got some new competitor give them a real serious market threat.

im using 1mb line too but downloading of bt stuffs i think it depends. if download is well shared and well seeded my download speed can reach 50-60kbps stabily. anyhow some downloads will only run at 5-10kbps. im not sure it is streamyx sux or wats the problem. but recently i can watch streaming videos like i did last time even with 512kb connection.

i don't think they'll 'block' users from using p2p (bit torrent, kazaa, etc). maybe they'll set a limit for users and in the papers they did say they're gonna state the amount of bandwidth each users users in their monthly statement. lotsa people are using p2p these days so it's like they're sucking up so much bandwidth and make other users who dont use p2p suffer tongue.gif

i'm on 512k and i get decent speeds, though it tends to suck after it rains.. bt speeds sometimes depends on the number of seeds the torrents have.

No ISP is perfect. You should be considered lucky enough to get 512kbps with unlimited bandwidth and unlimited access. Although certain countries like Australia, New Zealand offered higher speed packagaes, they cap their user's bandwidth.

yeah, that is so true. i'm from malaysia(Sabah) but currently studying in Australia(Brisbane). They offer many high-speed packages here but it always includes a cap such as additional charges after the 20gb download/upload limit, or fixed price per month but the speed will slow down to 64kb after 10gb of download/upload. still happy tho, somehow i never got past the 10gb limit. And i never have any problems with speed, its always around what i paid for (512/128).

i don't mind like u cap my line for 20gb per month as i cant even go so high tho...
now the internet CONNECTION is so dam slow.. even browsing internet too...
if u charge us for 100% payment u also need to giv us 100% service... not we giv 100% payment u giv us 70% of the service or even worst...

Malaysia have ast world infrastructure & 3rd world mentality. One signup for UNLIMITED PLAN for RM88 per month (ADSL 1megDOWN/128kUP). So one expects they can be ONLINE for the whole 30days..

If you cannot provide enough bandwidth, then dont signup more customers.

In singapore one can get for a mere SING$125 for 25megs DOWNLOADS SPEED!!!

You are right... I think the ADSL line in Malaysia is GOOD BUT they DO NOT have enough NODES to support so many users. ADSL works something like this - 1 Gig pipe shared by 100 people, therefore each get 10 Megs. In the case for slow speed that Streamyx is experiencing, - 1 Gig shared by 10000 users, therefore each get 10kb(if my maths is correct)... I know it is a poor analogy... but you get the idea. tongue.gif

You need to live in REMOTE places where there are very little users.. you will then get good speeds.

Download CAPs are BAD!!! I think I easy use more than 10Gigs a month in bandwidth with all the updates, podcast, vidcast and ISO images I download all the time to keep my system up to date. Imagine downloading a copy of the latest Knoppix 5 (0.7 Gb), Fedora Core 5 (3.5 Gb, Suse 10.1 ( 3.5Gb), Mandriva 2006 (3.5Gb), Gentoo ( .. unlimited? ), Ubuntu etc... Now, if you are a GoogleVideo fan or a Youtube fan... I think you will easily hit any cap limit! sad-smiley-065.gif

maybe i'm lucky, with many seeders i still get my max speed, 60kb/s. I using streamyx 66.

they are blocking the p2p ports. just change the port numbers to something weird and uncommon. and also if your client support, you can enable protocol encryption. then the damn TMnut will have a hard time tracking us.

there is other ISPs.. like Jaring and TimeNet.. but they suck even more. so unless a really capable ISP is coming up to fight the ****ing TMnut and streamyx, i dont think we will be able to get 10mbps before we leave this world... sob...

now my BT is getting better 50-60kbs for a files that are alot seeders, with old bt files get really slow speed , i guess it's normal after all
now streamyx are charging rm10 to reconnect the line after they stop ur line temporarily for outstanding amount.

the problem is the amount we paid is consider alot comparing to other countries .if you dont calculate the exchange rates, because the money you earn are spend on the countries itself.
and yet we get this kind of services, n no need waste your telephone money to call their customer services , totally bs . they will give alot of excuses rather than really help u through.
These company are lucky because they have no real competitor here,

that's pretty cheap compared to a adsl/cable internet connection here in australia
I pay about the equivalent of us$50 for my cable connection
10Mb(more like 5Mb) down and 256k up
and only 20gb peak/40gb off peak downloads

I think Malaysia's user have no other choices than using streamyx as it is the best internet provider or the largest provider in Malaysia. We will just have to live with it. But I think recently, a 2mb speed package had been introduced by streamyx. Anyone subscribed to that package?

i say again....Tmnet don't block any P2P client like BitComet

as i can see form my peer list,i'm receiving kbyte from other country outside of MAlaysia

do refer to lowyat forum for more infor and update about tmnet.

if your BT is getting less then the usual speed,do use PE as a temporary solution

although i do hate Malaysia broadband, but for most of us....is the only alternative....what is there to complaine about.

and one more thing is that tmnet backbone is realy sufficient as it have to support so many user and tmnet did't plan to upgrade it and keep getting in new customer dry.gif

you can't realy blame tmnet aslo because our malaysia people mentality is the same, got unlimited access mean must have to download 24/7.....you guys should know that BT is bandwith killer.

The funny thing is that sometimes my bitcomet download speed will go up to 50KB/s and sometimes will go down to 0KB/s. When it go down to 0, then I will have to stop bitcomet, exit and start again. Usually, a few times everyday. How's that for consistent service from TMNut!!

@ mmlsz

Sounds pretty bad. By what I have read, New Zealand had a similar situation a little while ago when there was only one, monopolized company. Thanks to this, the country is still pretty backwards network-wise but at least developing. Malaysia is probably still in the cave. biggrin.gif
