Myolie Wu's "Evolve Myolie Wu" 2008 music concert was held last night at a concert hall in Macau's Sands Hotel. A big group of fans came to support, and there were no empty seats. The concert started at 8.30pm last night. The first song that came up was 'To Grow With Love' subtheme, 'Miss Pig', which was being performed by Myolie. She then went onto singing other pieces of slow, romantic ballads in her first debut album, Evolve, including the first hit song 'Solo Travel'. Singer, Vincent Wong, and HotCha were the concert's performing guests. The fans were holding banners bearing Myolie's name, and also waving glowing flashlights. Many TVB artistes, including Nancy Wu and Kenneth Ma and many more, attended the concert to cheer for Myolie. The atmosphere at the event was very lively and bustling with excitement. TVB Fadan, Myolie Wu, whom just received the TVB's Most Fashionable Artiste Award, stepped bravely into the music industry in 2008, and also released her first debut album, Evolve. In the album, there are eight songs being recorded, and also include three MVs.

Yesterday, Bosco, Myolie and Freeze were present at the press conference for Metro Awards 2008. Bosco was forced to stand near his ex girlfriend from Freeze and was seated far from his new girlfriend, Myolie Wu. However, during phototaking, Bosco immediately went next to Myolie.

Yesterday, a group of singers were present at Metro Awards 2008 press conference. On Saturday night, Myolie's mini Concert "Evolve" was held in Macau. As this is her first time holding her solo concert, she was feeling very happy and excited. She expressed that before the concert, she had to practice her songs and memorize the lyrics. Then she realised that memorizing the lyrics is more difficult than memorizing her scripts because in a concert, she can't NG like what she does in dramas. Asked if the most difficult part for her was practicing the dance? She ssaid: "Dancing is not tiring and difficult, the most tiring and difficult part is..everyday, after finishing the dance practice, have to film dramas, and there is only 2 hours of sleeping time. And i was very anxious and nervous about the mini concert so i couldn't sleep every night. I have lost 5 kg. (When you are dancing, did you take the necessary precautions in case you reveal yourself? "Not afraid, so thin already, nothing to see!"

Retrenchment exercise at Hong Kong's Television Broadcasts Limited caused a stir in the Asian media industry. Though its higher management has emphasized that artistes would not be affected but according to Hong Kong reports, several first and second class young actors and actresses have been silently listed into the retrenchment list; among them include Kevin Cheng and Myolie Wu.

Cheng suffered image destruction recently when he was reported to have cheated on his "underground girlfriend" Niki Chow and is dating Charmaine Sheh. He had been taking on male lead roles in several dramas two years back, but is now cast only as supporting actors. The dramas he is in have been reported to have very low viewership. These reasons placed him in a risky position in these rocky times.

Wu, on the other hand, has always been unpopular with audiences. She is currently canned by TVB and is making a living by appearing on commercial shows. If she does not get a revival by the time her contract ends, she may have to face with retrenchment.

Actors Ron Ng and Michael Tse are also rumored to be among the retrenchment list. The newly awarded Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor - Ha Yu, Michelle Yim and Wayne Lai - are said to be facing the similar fate.

Two nights ago (6th December), Hong Kong TVB star Myolie Wu who has officially entered into the Music Industry, was at Macau Sands Hotel, holding her first mini Concert. As there are many rumours going around, saying that due to the retrenchment movement in TVB, Myolie has been "transferred" to explore the overseas market. Hence, her appearance that night was receiving a lot of attention. However, that night, TVB top executive Ms Lok brought along Nancy Wu, Kenneth Ma, Chris Lai, 王君馨 and 姚子羚 to attend and support Myolie's concert,allowing all the guesses and speculations to end. Myolie also laughed and said that the rumours were lame: "if there wasn't any support from the company, how can i hold this concert?" She emphasized that she has many jobs in the coming year, "advancing in both singing and acting careers", and also hope to become a singer who has the ability and skills to sing.

During the concert, Myolie sang "Solo Traveling", "Romantic Century", and many other songs that were from her solo album "Evolve Myolie Wu". She also put in a lot of effort in her dressing that night, ranging from a cool suit to a sexy low cut dancing top. With regards to TVB putting her in the black listed list, not using her in the coming year, Myolie clarified that her job has not decreased at all. Currently, she is rushing to film "Chau Heung Angers Tong Bak Fu" with Moses, "Everyday's jobs are being arranged back to back, the worst is my chau heung character is someone who knows martial arts. There are many fighting scene; whereas Moses, this "tong Bak Fu" is very relaxed, doesn't fight at all." She said that after filming "chau Heung"there are still a few other dramas, waiting for her.

Thought that after competing for awards in TVB anniversary Awards, the artistes will be able to rest? Wrong! It is time for the Music Awards at the end of the year where all the Fadans and Siu Sans who have gone into the Music Industry will compete!

Being teased for " 胡 囧 囧 ", Myolie who has put in a lot of effort in the music career, has to win Linda Chung who is also competing for the same award and also win the hearts of the audience. Lucky, Myolie who is 29 this year, has Neway Star and Ms Lok to support her. There is hope in winning the newcomer award and this time, its not 囧 look anymore!



Although both of them entered into the Music industry in the same year as newcomers, and the big boss behind the recording companies is the same as Neway (Fala's rumoured boyfriend), but Myolie receives more favour from the company than Linda. Since the release of her new CD "Evolve" on the 28th of last month, besides being heavily advertised, Myolie also had a mini concert last saturday at Macau Sands Hotel.



Both are from TVB, and both are under Neway although the Label is different, but Myolie's chance of winning is higher than Linda for the two awards: 「 叱 咤 生 力 軍 」 及 「 十 大 勁 歌 金 曲 新 人 獎 」

All along there are quite a few artistes who became singers, for example, a few years ago, there were Louis Koo, Flora Chan, Wong Hei, etc. Although after they became singers, the response wasnt very big, but at least they tried! Recently, the trend is back again, starting from Raymond Lam to Linda Chung , Bosco Wong and Myolie Wu. All of them are TVB Siu San and Fa dan. But to be successful, have to really work harder than other singers, because they have to change the image that is already fixed in the eyes of the audience! This time, Myolie decided to try it, have to say Goodbye to Fa Dan.

Though I want GEM to win Gold Newcomer Award, Myolie must win the Silver award at 903 and also one award at RTHK! I think she has successfully become a singer because there has been a lot of praises for her singing (just that there's too little new songs in her EP; can't wait for her full album to come out!). It's great that she can interact more with the singers bunch because they are much more cooler and more fun people than TVB artistes.

HONG Kong actor and newly minted singer Bosco Wong does not need to fret even if he does not win any best newcomer trophy at music award shows next year.

Given his boyish charm, down-to-earth appeal and honesty - well, except when the focus is on rumoured girlfriend Myolie Wu - he will make an impression.

And he has a way of endearing himself to the press, which always helps.

In an interview with The New Paper when he was in town recently to promote his new drama serial, The Gem Of Life, Bosco shows how he does just that.

There were no 'out-of-bounds' questions - we could even ask about actress Myolie.

'We're good friends, very, very good friends,' he said, with a twinkle in his eyes.


THERE'S HOPE: Bosco at his hotel room. He reflects on how he almost quit showbiz.

'And yes, we usually confide in each other.'

Despite the couple's constant denials, Bosco and Myolie have been romantically linked to each other since they first appeared together in the drama Wars of In-Laws three years ago.
They were even voted the Most Popular On-Screen Couple at TVB's Anniversary Awards in 2006. They reprised their 'relationship' in a sequel this year.

Bosco said: 'Ah yes... but what about the other actresses that I've worked with since then?'
Such as Linda Chung, who acted as his love interest in The Gem Of Life and Moonlight Resonance.

Bosco said: 'In The Gem Of Life, she's like Paris Hilton, the rich, spoilt brat. Too wilful for my liking. 'It's fine to have her as a friend, but girlfriend? No, never.'
He added: 'And in Moonlight Resonance, her character loves to cry. Too much.
'I'm so afraid of girls who cry, so I also don't want a girlfriend like that. Oh, and even if it's (just being) friends, I must also consider.'

Bosco, who turned 28 last Saturday, admitted that he has been quite fortunate in his rising career.

He said: 'I've been given the opportunity to be involved in many good productions.'
And to think that he had once thought of quitting the scene.
Talent-spotted in the streets for a lemon tea TV commercial in 1997 - which also featured Cecilia Cheung - Bosco joined Hng Kong Tv station TVB two years later after he finished school.

When he was tasked to host late-night music programmes, his sense of self-worth started to slip. He said: 'I began to lose hope in myself.'
Then he had a chat with a good friend, who told him to persevere and not put a timeline to when he could achieve success.

Bosco listened. And now, he is glad he stayed on.

Turned to singing

Not only has he been given good roles, he can now add another feather to his cap - as a singer.

He released his debut album - In Love With Bosco - in Hong Kong on 5 Dec. And in just under five days, the album sold more than 10,000 copies.
A second issue of the album was quickly put out on the shelves. While Bosco has previously recorded theme songs for his drama serials, he confessed he had a hard time recording his own album of songs.

He explained: 'Most of our theme songs are related directly to the dramas, so this means the listeners can relate to the songs more easily. The message in the song is already quite clear.'
But it was different for the album.
'I have to convey what the songs mean through my voice,' he said. 'It's a recording of my emotions, but it can be just 'sounds' to the listeners.'

Coincidentally, Myolie has also released her debut album, Evolve, about two weeks earlier.

Bosco said: 'We really didn't plan it such. In any case, we're from different record companies.'
Asked to rate Myolie's singing, he gave it 8.5 on a scale of one to 10.
'Myself? About 3 or 4 marks?' he said, unsure.

Interview - Having The Confidence To Win Newcomer Award, Using Show To Regain Popularity; Myolie Wu Willingly Accepts Criticisms

Firstly, congratulations to Myolie. Because her first debut album, Evolve, was finally released at the end of last month. In the album, there are 8 songs and 3 MVs being recorded, and the album cover was done up by famous photographer, Paul Tsang. The production process is sufficient to show the music company's, Neway Star, confidence in Myolie. And in reality, when I was recording the 'Lady In Red' album for the group of TVB's Fadans back in 2006, I've already openly complimented Myolie that she definitely had the caliber to develop a music/singing career. Unexpectedly two years later, her expression in the songs are getting more matured, and it's evident that she has placed in much hard work in her singing skills. People, whom are willing to work hard, should enjoy something in return. I sincerely hope that she can achieve good results at the end-of-year music award ceremonies.
In the early 2008, I've already got wind of the news that Myolie will sign on Neway Star and fulfilled the dream of developing a career in both TV and music. After an entire year of preparation, Myolie's first "baby" was born last month. Although she had to pick out some time in between her filming schedule to record the songs, her performance was still commendable. Just like the title of her album, Evolve, it also made me and many other TVB audience feel the changing/evolving side of her.
"Actually I've always like singing, so when I knew that I would be signed on to a music company at the beginning of the year, I was already very happy. But it was only until September that I started preparing for my album. Although I had no part in selecting the songs, I had a lot of confidence in my producer. He will not want me to be 'the-girl-next-door' or 'the jade lady'. No matter whether it's image or song genre, it will be a cool style being the top priority. Why is the album called Evolve? My idea is same as the music company. We hope to give out a fresh, new image and feel. Although I had to pick out some time in between my filming schedule to do song recording and also tried recording at 2am before, the result was still okay. I'm pretty satisfied. Actually being a singer is tough. You may feel that you sing very well at the karaoke, but it's because you're imitating the original singer and there's no feel at all. It's very different from being an actual singer."

Singing Out Her Own Thoughts
Back then at 2006, when I helped a group of TVB Fadans to record the 'Lady In Red' album, I've already known that Myolie has singing talent, and also openly expressed that she certainly had the caliber to develop a music career. Now that I see her debut album being released, I'm really happy for her.
"I've no idea on how the music industry works. No idea as well on what's the marketing points for a singer. So when the company wanted to plug 'Solo Travel', I was afraid that it might be too strange. But in the end, the response was pretty good. Everyone's surprised. They've never thought of Myolie Wu singing to this kind of songs. In the album, every song had touched a part of me. Solo Travel, which is on the modern women's love perspective, and Romantic Century, which is about loving all the way, are pretty much both a representation of myself."

Beautiful Voice Being Trained Since Young
Having to develop both a TV and music career is never easy. When decided to take the first step out, Myolie would certainly not back down in fear. No matter how difficult the path may be, she will still want to continue walking on. Talking about the end-of-year music award ceremonies, Myolie is confident.
"Actually I've been singing in a choir when I was young. Even being a soprano. Plus when I studied high school in Ireland, I learned how to sing opera too. Perhaps I'm used to singing at a higher pitch, so when I sing, it's more stable and easier to breathe. But it's very different from singing pop songs, because these songs have their emphasis on feelings. It's quite difficult. I'm very clear about my personality. If I've no confidence in something, I will certainly not start it. If I start it, then I must do to the best. This is my philosophy. You asked me if I've confidence in getting an award? Yes, of course yes. It's just like filming To Grow With Love back then. Since I promised to film the drama, then I must put in all my heart to gain weight. This kind of personality has its good and bad sides. Sometimes, I'll give myself very huge pressure, but it also helps me to persevere. So I can tell you for sure that being a singer is my dream. It's not playing around."

Afraid Of Loneliness; Will Get Married
No matter whether it's in the TV or music industry, there's bound to be gossips and rumors around. Having been in the entertainment industry for 10 years, of course Myolie understands about this too. So Myolie is luckier as compared to other newcomers for the music industry, because she does not need to spend time to adjust her state of mind. Also because she was once surrounded by gossips and rumors, she had already developed a very strong defense, and could pull in her whole heart into developing a music career.
"Having entered this industry for quite a number of years, there will more or less be reports criticizing you. It's those people whom have expectations on you, and feel that I can do better than that, so they voice out. I should thank them. Actually at this moment, I really place my career at top priority. After all, being a singer is my dream. I'm a person who tends to think too much, and also quite pessimistic, so I cannot mix with people whom are as negative as me. Two negative people might make the situation worse. Bosco Wong is my good friend. He's a optimistic 'handsome man'. If he has the criteria to be my boyfriend, he would have been so long ago. Anyway, I'm a person who will marry, because I'm afraid of loneliness, so I hope that I can find someone whom I can grow old with eventually."

It is definitely not an easy tasks to do both filming and singing with so little sleep. I hope you will not pressure yourself but enjoy every steps you take to achieve your own dream.

I really like your ability to have the insight to how different it is to feel oneself sing well in karaoke compared to being an actual singer. The way you use your voice to express the feelings of the songs is so important, given listeners the feeling of the meaning while hearing the melody. You definitely ROCKs in your rendition being a newcomer. You handled the high pitch part of your songs so melodiously.

Bosco Wong and rumored girlfriend, Myolie Wu, got the male and female newcomer award respectively at 2008 Metro's Newcomers Award Ceremony on the night before.
