[Ta Kung Pao, The Sun]

Dayo Wong and Ada Choi's new series "To Catch the Uncatchable" reached average ratings of 31 points in its first week, peaking at 33 points and this is a good result for recent months. To celebrate, Dayo dug deep into his wallet to take the cast and crew out for a meal and those who took part included Ada, Claire Yiu, Elaine Yiu, Cheung Chi Kwong, Woo Fung and Lo Hoi Pang.

How much did they spend on the meal? Dayo laughs: "It wasn't too much, I will just treat it as giving up my fee for one or two episodes. This is the first meal, for every point it continues to go up, there will be another meal. I hope that we can have ten meals, but the ones later will be paid for by Ada. (Do you hope to reach 40 points?) I dare not dream about it, the TV atmosphere isn't so great at the moment - since Ah Wong, 40 points is not an achievable rating in this current climate."

Dayo will soon be releasing his own album, with a band he has formed with a few friends called "Happy". Their record should be out in September and there will be a song released next week. This venture has been financed by Dayo himself in the hope that it will not exceed seven figures. Talking of Athena Chu's venture into the music industry losing her a fair amount of money, he says that he has mentally prepared himself to lose money because it is difficult to make money from the music business nowadays. His investment is purely to create an opportunity for the band to perform, so sales are not important, what is most important is that someone will ask them to keep singing in the future, otherwise this will be a great loss. Dayo hopes that when Sam Hui retires, he can have the chance to perform in the Coliseum in the "Wishing you Happy Concert".

Ada's performance in the series has been noted and some people have praised her for letting herself go in the role, whilst others have felt that she is copying Dodo Cheng's character in "War of Genders". Ada says that maybe Dodo's 'Miss Mo' and her own 'Vivi Lee' are both business professionals and many of the cast in "To Catch" also appeared in "War", them many people mistake the show for copying Dayo's last series.

Ada says: "Being like Dodo is not such a bad thing, because she is a very strong character actor and also a 'best actress', so being compared to her is a great deal. On the other hand, if you said my acting was poor, then I would mind that." She also says that her own character is a little like that of Vivi, for example she is not vain and is very bubbly and lively, but she is not as miserly as Vivi.

As for Dayo saying that Ada has to pay for future meals, she laughs that she is just a supporting actor in the show and it should be Dayo paying for them. However, she says that as long as everyone is happy, then she doesn't mind paying. As for Dayo saying that she has to wear a bikini if the show's ratings hit 40 points, Ada says that if this is the case, then Dayo should get married and if the ratings reach 45 or 50 points, then he should have kids straight away.

Ada indicates that she will be heading out to Xinjiang next Thursday to film for a China Central TV and Tsui Hark co-production entitled "Seven Swords of Tianshan". The trip will last for a month and a half and co-stars include Chiu Man Cheuk and Julian Cheung. She will return to TVB to film a new series in November. Having had her calendar shoot paired with Bowie Lam yesterday, Ada reveals that she has been busy moving house recently: "I managed to fill a ten tonne truck, so it will take me a while to sort through it all!"

[Ta Kung Pao]

The ratings for TVB's "To Catch the Uncatchable" continue to rise as it averaged 31 points last week, peaking at 34 points. A promotional event was held yesterday where the artistes took part in basketball and climbing games as well as celebrating with champagne. Leading stars Dayo Wong and Ada Choi were in high spirits and as they played ball, they were both hit on the head by the ball. Dayo even fell over when he was hit and complained about being in pain, but this did not affect his mood at all. Acting as the judge, Woo Fung was joined by his granddaughter for support and as Dayo and Ada raised their champagne glasses, Dayo laughed that this was like their wedding day, with Woo Fung's granddaughter as their flower girl, causing everyone to laugh.

The arrival of American Idol star William Hung in Hong Kong has sparked off a new craze with various comments being passed around, some praising his spirit and others saying he is being disrespectful to the Chinese race. Dayo says that he supports William wholeheartedly and feels that he has the right outlook on life and that is giving his best to what he does. Although some people find William rather odd, Dayo says that when he first started in showbiz, people found him to be quite odd too and even his own little sister told him to stop dreaming, but he did not take any notice of what people said and stood by his ambition. Then when he joined the drama group in the hope of making it onto the stage, his colleagues would not help him, saying that his looks weren't good enough and urging him to stay backstage. Dayo feels that if you do not give things a try, then you will never know if you can succeed. If you really do not succeed, then you can let go and try something else, but at least you will have no regrets. This is the belief that William holds dear as well as the truth of the hard work he has put into it. As for the foreigners picking up on William's oddities and using it to ridicule Chinese people, Dayo believes that things should not be complicated in this way, the foreigners like William's spirit and give him space to thrive, in return, William brings amusement, so what's wrong with that?

TCTU NEWS -

[Ta Kung Pao 28/08/04]

***WARNING: SPOILERS FOR "TO CATCH THE UNCATCHABLE" ***

"To Catch the Uncatchable" aired its final episode last week and caused a huge reaction from the audience who were appalled at the apparent sad ending dished out onto leading stars Dayo Wong and Ada Choi's character. In order to appease the viewers, TVB aired an alternative ending on yesterday's edition of "Jade Starbiz" in a re-edited ending scene that shows Dayo's character returning to the photographic studio to continue shooting his wedding photos and a happy ending was indicated as the words "Constable Mok and Vivi lived happily ever after..." flashed up on the screen.

Dayo was due to be in the studio yesterday at around 6:15pm for the broadcast, but he did not emerge until 6:30 along with the producer Tsui Ching Hong. Seeing the press waiting for him, Dayo laughed: "So sorry, I have just been for a grilling!" Afterwards, he indicated seriously later that he has been discussing the possibility of future co-operation with the executives and when asked if there will be a sequel, he says that anything is possible, but he personally does not lean towards sequels because he hopes to make some fresh creations. However, life brings surprises and no-one would have imagined that this would occur, so he daren't confirm anything yet.

As for the disputed ending, does he have any opinions? Dayo indicates that everyone has given him their opinions and he feels both agreement and objection towards Mok's death. He guesses that most of the viewers will be very against the death of Mok, because he also felt bad about it when he filmed the scene, especially dying away from everyone, that left him feeling rather sad. He feels very sorry for Mok and he has shed a tear for him.

Dayo also denies that they had filmed two alternative endings and explains that this new ending was simply taking some of the edited scenes and extending the shoot. He felt very conflicting towards the happy ending because as a creative, he would like to try new experiments, but on a more human side, he feels that it is very sad.

[Ta Kung Pao 27/08/04]

*** WARNING: SPOILERS FOR "TO CATCH THE UNCATCHABLE" ***

Belinda Hamnett and Cheung Chi Kwong were appearing as guests at a real estate promotion yesterday and spoke about the ending of "To Catch the Uncatchable" and the displeasure of the audience at the death of Dayo's character, leading TVB to change the ending to a happy one. Belinda indicates that before the ending was aired, all the cast had watched it and there were no objections, so they never imagined that the response would be so great. She has heard the comments from many housewife fans as well as young girls who hoped for a sequel. Cheung Chi Kwong is very supportive of a sequel because a good story should be continued. He admits that after the ending was aired, a lot of viewers were very unhappy and he hopes that he can see a happy ending too. When TVB received a huge number of complaints, the press immediately contacted the producer, but there was no response.

Also, TVB's External Affairs Assistant Director Tsang Sing Ming indicates that up to yesterday, a total of 83 calls had been taken regarding this issue and as TVB would like to take on board viewer comments, they have decided to re-edit some of the scenes filmed previously to make a short 'viewer's choice' ending lasting a few minutes that will be aired on "Jade Starbiz", with Dayo Wong commenting on the ending in person. Producer Tsui Ching Hong indicates that the huge response was probably because the majority of viewers find the tragic art ending difficult to accept. When asked if this was a planned publicity stunt, he laughs that it is not so sinister. As for whether there will be a sequel, he says that they will consider it but it will be at least six months before they begin filming because it will need some preparation.

here are some news w/ pics of Dayo

Based on the huge success of "To Catch the Uncatchable", TVB has decided to turn it into a situation comedy and replace "Virtues of Harmony" when it is finished next year. Dayo Wong will still be the male lead, hoping to rewrite the magic ratings story of "War of Genders".

TVB was forced to air an alternate happy ending of "TCTUC" due to viewers' overwhelming demand a while ago, and that shows just how popular and successful the serial was. Since the viewers have kept asking for a sequel, TVB finally decides to shoot "TCTUC" again to continue the ratings success.

Dayo Wong and producer Tsui Jing Hong contributed a lot to "TCTUC", and they were also behind "War of Genders" a few years ago. To guarantee a good result, they will remain as the lead actor and producer of the new "TCTUC". In a rare move, TVB has changed it into a situation comedy (*special note: meaning it is not a sequel, but a regular series that goes for hundreds of episodes), and it will air after "Virtues of Harmony" comes to an end early next year.

The new "TCTUC" will use the same cast as the old one. Dayo Wong is currently filming in mainland China, and to fit his schedules, "TCTUC" won't start shooting until next March. This way, producer Tsui will also have plenty of time to get ready. The biggest problem right now is the female lead. Sitcoms are long-term projects by definition, so actors have to be readily available. Ada Choi is not sure if the new "TCTUC" can fit into her busy schedules, so she is still considering, although she would love to say yes immediately.

As for the suggestion that Carol Cheng should be a part of the new project, TVB says the chance is too slim. The Sun contacted Carol yesterday, and she confirmed she would not take the offer. "I haven't heard anything yet. Even if they do give me the offer, I won't consider it. For one thing, I've tried sitcoms. For another, it will be my 30th year in the business next year. I've reached the phase where I only want to enjoy my life."

It`s not a sequel, it`s going to be replacing VOH. Like VOH, they`re going to be making hundreds of episodes based on comedy. So it`s not a sequel, it`s just a comedy show like VOH.

[Extracted from The Sun 21/10/04]

Dayo Wong is currently filming for a mainland version of 'Justice Sung' alongside Wong Sing Yi, Lo Ka Ying and William So in Hengdian and is having a lot of fun on set with his co-stars. Dayo is currently considering whether to return to Hong Kong for the TVB anniversary celebrations. When asked if he is confident in winning the male lead award, he asks the reporters in return: "Who am I up against? Actually, I am very easy going, it doesn't matter whether or not I win an award. (Are you returning to film a sitcom?) It depends if I have time next year."

[Oriental Daily & The Sun 05/11/04]

Top Ten My Favourite Television Characters Results to date:

1. Sheren Tang (War and Beauty)
2. Dayo Wong (To Catch the Uncatchable)
3. Jessica Hsuan (Lady Fan)
4. Ada Choi (To Catch the Uncatchable)
5. Bowie Lam (War and Beauty)
6. Charmaine Sheh (War and Beauty)
7. Gigi Lai (War and Beauty)
8. Kenix Kwok (Shine on You)
9. Bobby Au Yeung (Shine on You)
10. Maggie Cheung (War and Beauty)

TVB's anniversary 'My Favourite Television Character' awards have been the focus of many recently and TVB's official website revealed that the results up to now show Sheren Tang's 'Yu Fei' is way out in the lead, with Dayo Wong in second place and a rather surprising third place falling to Jessica Hsuan for her title role in "Lady Fan". With two weeks to go until the anniversary celebration and the final results, these awards will dwell heavily on the minds of the leading males and females.

The emergence of Jessica in the top three is certainly surprising as earlier predictions only focussed on the leads from "War" and "To Catch" and overlooked Jessica's influence. Jessica's excellent relationship with her viewers has revealed this unusual results and cast a new light on the predictions for the 'My Favourite Female Lead Award', as an external threat on Sheren's lead in addition to the 'internal challenge' from the other concubines in "War".

As for the male and female lead awards, the net results indicate that Sheren still leads with odds falling from 4-1 to 5-2, but Gigi Lai's third place has risen to second, beating Ada Choi back down to third for the time being. The fight for the male lead award is still between Bowie Lam, Dayo Wong and Moses Chan as Bowie's odds fall from 6-1 to 7-2.

[The Sun 19/11/04]

With tonight being anniversary night at TVB, the 'male lead role' award is not being fought out as strongly as the female award, but the two favourites Dayo Wong and Bowie Lam are level pegging and with the final votes announced, Bowie's chances are slightly higher, going into the final straight. The "My Favourite TV Character" poll results indicate that Bowie Lam has risen into third place from fifth place, but was pipped at the post by Dayo who held onto his second position. The decision is now up to the TVB judging panel and despite Dayo being the leader all along, the chance of signing Bowie for a management contract shortly and this 'stepson' of TVB having drawn in the viewing public in the past, the balance seems to swing in his favour.

Bowie says that to jump into third place in the vote makes him very happy and he is confident about the male lead award, but he has not yet thought about how he would feel if he were to win the award. He sasy: "If I don't win an award, then I would be very disappointed if I had prepared beforehand. I would like the anniversary to pass soon because all my family and friends have been congratulating me and they have put so much pressure on me that I feel very awkward."

As for the rumours of him signing for TVB raising his chances of winning, Bowie says: "The award is all about talent and they are all rumours. If Dayo wins, I will congratulate him but don't have a dual winner!" As for his outfit, Bowie says that there is no chance for the male artistes to 'show off' with millions of dollars of diamond jewellery, so he has to put his efforts on his suit. He says: "Men will just be in suits and ties, but I will be quite glamorous as I have been sponsored by Armani."

The other candidate for the award Dayo Wong has just returned from Hengdian to take part in the anniversary show and earlier, he took some rare free time out to go pubbling with William So in Happy Valley, when he seemed quite relaxed and not at all worried or excited about the awards.

(12/28/2004) Dayo Wong Chi Wa's band Ha Pei, Josie Ho Chiu Yi, Wong Ka Keung and other singers two nights ago appeared on TVB JADE SOLID GOLD. Birthday girl Ho Chiu Yi was the guest host. When she jammed with Ka Keung she appeared rather anxious and made Ka Keung jump the gun.

Chiu Yi admitted, "I am not very good at this. My performance is about 80 some 90 points. Normally I don't even watch the program and I don't know the format. I had to speak and sing. Next time I will just sing and take care of one area first." She also said that while hosting she has learned to speed up her dialogue.

She also said that two nights ago was her birthday but many of her friends had to attend a music award, so she celebrated in advanced with a NAKED AMBITION (HO CHING) theme celebration. "I play a retired Chiu Long Long (her character in NAKED AMBITION). Eason (Chan Yik Shun) and (Hilary) Tsui Ho Ying came too. Originally I asked Eason to play a 'client' but came as a French designer instead."
Wong Chi Wa revealed that for now he still has not find the series genre to make.

As for a sequel to TO CATCH THE UNCATCHABLE, he said, "I am not leaning toward sequels. Righ now I have two classic characters. If I have a third one then I am home free." He also said that in January he will fund Ha Pei's first record. Earlier he has placed his new song PUBLIC TOILET (GUNG CHI) online for download. "It had over ten thousand downloads. The online response was 99% good. Everyone is welcome to keep downloading."

[Ta Kung Pao 31/12/04]

Ada Choi and Dayo Wong's series "To Catch the Uncatchable" was very popular and gained the top spot in TVB Jade's Top Ten TV Series of 2004, so the two leading stars were back in TVB City yesterday for a TVB Weekly magazine shoot. Ada's other series for the year "Armed Reaction IV" was also among the top ten and she is very happy about this, especially as this was her first collaboration with Dayo and she has gained good results. She hopes that in the future, she can work with him again in films, television and even recording an album.

When it was mentioned that Dayo has recently formed a band, Ada says that he looks very stylish in his hat and she is very happy that the song can be downloaded for free from the internet. As Ada loves singing herself, she often sings on stage performances, but she will not be releasing a record in case the company loses money and because she does not want the pressure. As for Athena Chu releasing another album, Ada says she admires her enthusiasm for singing and all the effort she has put into it, saying that this attitude should be encouraged in the industry. She adds that Athena is her idol and she will definitely buy the record and hopes that everyone can appreciate her hard work.

Also, Ada has just returned from a trip to Thailand last week, so the destruction from the tsunamis has hit home quite hard. However, she feels that we should not be too saddened and face the situation strongly by appreciating friendships and encouraging each other, making the most of each day because so much cannot be taken for granted. She says: "The death toll is mounting up day by day and I hope that we can show our care for those who are affected."

Responding to "To Catch" being the top rated show of last year, Dayo says that he felt he could have done better and only expected to come second or third. How does he feel Ada performed? He says that she did very well and they worked together very happily. He says: "Whether I am happy or not when I am filming depends on my co-star and if they perform badly, then I will not be happy either, but Ada was nearly perfect on both counts."

Will there be a sequel to the show? Dayo says candidly that he does not want to repeat anything, so if he films something it will be a new subject. Will be he be contributing his own ideas to make it even better? He laughs he will not because he is just an ordinary staf member of TVB and he only receives one salary, so he does not want to step into other colleague's territory. He has not confirmed whether he will be filming for TVB again next year as his schedule is very full as he will be filming a series in the Mainland in March before preparing for his stage show with Francis Ng and Cheung Tat Ming in July. However this will not be in the format of "So Gun Show" or stand up, but will be a new bold venture for the three that they have discussed for six months. Dayo laughs: "This time, the show will affect the whole of West Kowloon, so if all of the West Kowloon pollers come to watch, then they will know what culture is."

Dayo was in Thailand's Khao Lak resort on vacation at the beginning of the month, but the hotel where he stayed has now been destroyed. He says: "That hotel was newly opened and the room where I stayed was very near to the sea, so I was worried then that the tides would reach my room. After this disaster, I feel that life is very precious and I hope that everyone will donate generously to the appeal. I had made a donation to World Vision."

Follow in Dayo's footsteps and make a donation to the Tsunami appeal via World Vision:

Ada Choi Siu Fun and Dayo Wong Chi Wa yesterday attended an interview with the TVB official publication. Ada said about TO CATCH THE UNCATCHABLE (DUNG DUK SUN TAM) becoming 2004's rating champion, "I have two series TO CATCH THE UNCATCHABLE and ARMED REACTION 4 (TOR CHEUNG SIU JEH IV) in the top ten, I am comforted in my old age.....I mean in my 'young age'. I am very happy about the success of my first collaboration with Chi Wa. I really admire Chi Wa for putting his song online for people to download. Too bad my computer is broken and I can't download it."

Chi Wa never expected TO CATCH THE UNCATCHABLE to the top rated show and felt that it was not perfect enough.

he's a great actor! 1st show i watched with him inside was Justice Song II - he was a really mean guy. But there you can see how well he acts, when compared to War of the Genders. He's like..so henpecked in WOG, but he does it really well. And really cute! Then in To catch the Uncatchable - he's so smart! So intelligent I believe you'll wish he was your pal! worship.gif

[The Sun]

Dayo Wong Chi Wa, Francis Ng Chun Yu, Flora Chan Wai San and Poon Man Kit worked on the Mainland series DAI HUNG (TYCOON). Chi Wa plays a mathematics genius with dyslexia. He got a country boy hair cut and stuttered. Chi Wa under the assistance of the crew contacted Lo Koon Ting who has had the illness for research.

Chi Wa felt that the most difficult part of the character was to be self aware while being willing to help others. "It's pretty conflicting. I used to have a great time talking back at people, now the character is a little silly. I still get to talk back, but unknowingly. So there is still comedy. (Have you asked Lo Koon Ting for advice?) He inspired me a lot. He didn't know how to write, but he didn't lose his confidence; because this kind of people definitely has another talent. Lo Koon Ting told me that actually he was quite a fighter."
