Wallace's success comes both from his impeccable cherubic look as well as his captivating acting. Once dreaming of putting Vic Chou of F4 under his flag, Yang had now found a gold mine in Wallace. In Emerald, Wallace is a musician and now he is learning violin (or more accurately, the posture of violin-ing…) for that. "I will work very hard not to lose Mr.Yang's face!" He told the media. In fact, Yvonne Yau, one of the co-starring actresses, praised Wallace highly. "He is so charming, not only because he is so handsome, but he also devoted himself totally to the drama." Li Sun is becoming more and more popular after shooting a Kung Fu movie with Jet Li. Yvonne Yau, apparently another ruby of Yang, is now trying to recapitulate the image of a senorita in Emerald. George Hu grew up in New York and had solid training in martial arts. However, since he barely read Chinese, now memorizing the script had become a nightmare for him.

In addition to Wallace, the brightest of the young and glittering cast, another attraction of Emerald is the meticulous production. In order to create a dreamingly beautiful screen, in addition to Shanghai, this drama will also film in the Hainan Island, London and Scotland. Therefore, the production expense of Emerald will very likely set a new record for contemporary idol dramas.

When
The filming will start in Sanya City, Hainan Island, from September 20, 2005, right after Wallace finishes Sound of Colors. In November Wallace and the crew will fly to the United Kingdom to shoot some major scenes in London and Scotland.

I think this will be a nice series, hmmm I don't wanna judge it by its plot only^ , I'm looking forward to see Hainan, london, scotland and even shanghai..
base on the clips and pics.. it looks very promising plus this series is now the talk of the media in china..

oh but well, I don't consider this a taiwanese production, i think this more of a mainland project with some taiwanese stars.

In Emerald, Wallace is Nien-Zhung live in Hainan Island with his mother. He take his best friend seat in music class. In the class everyone know him as Nie Kai instead of Nien-Zhung. But his fate twisted when he and best buddy fall in love with Chia-Chi. Nien-Zhung didn't dare to show his love because of Nie Kai. At the same time, his mother send him to Shanghai and told him that his biology mother is Mrs.Yang who stay in Shanghai now. Nien-Zhung start a new life after his mother pass away. George Hu is Nie Kai, best buddy with Nien-Zhung. He loves martial art so he swap his music class with Nien-Zhugn and attend martial art class. He bump into Chia-Chi as Chia-Chi ask him to teach her martial art too. After he discover that Chia-Chi is the pretty girl he saw in ballet class, he decided to go after her. He ask Nien-Zhung help to write love letter to Chia-Chi. But Chia-Chi like Nien-Zhung. So their friendship is suffer.

I love this series, touching, romantic and funny at times, very balance.
it is very levelled to any other China/TW series..out there
it's actually more like LIP, LSIH...and those kind of kdramas. But it's just that, this one is more touching..added with some goog-looking actors and actresses.
I quite hate the ending, it kept me stunned and shocked for a while.. then finally I came to a conclusion that this series is consistent and the ending even though unacceptable for many is just right for it. I guess the story/title although visibly revolving around a mermorabilia, has also some deep representation.

and the songs are all good--

highly recommended for all Wallace Huo, Sun Li, Melodrama fans...and also for hopeless romantics!

DVD in simple and traditional Chinese had been released at YesAsia and is now top on the chart of DVD stores across Beijing and Shanghai.

Wallace will attend the press conference in late September, Taipei. He personally likes this series so much that after the filming was complete, he stayed in Shanghai for 3 extra weeks to dub the whole series himself. According to the script writer, the character was tailor-made for Wallace.

Wallace never looks so good in his previous series. Believe me, you all will be intoxicated!

This series was amazing. It was pretty stretched out sometimes, but as was mentioned in various news articles, the settings are gorgeous (they film in Hainan, Shanghai, England and Scotland), and the story is heartwrenching.

If anyone wants to know the story... (plenty of spoilers). I've left out a lot of details, like the reason why it's called emerald on the roof. It's a sweet story; I highly recommend watching it for those things. =]

Hidden Text:

Nie Kai (George Hu) and Zhou Nian Zhong (Wallace Huo) both fall in love with the same "rich" girl in Hainan, Muo Jia Qi (Li Sun) in high school. Nian Zhong gets sent to Shanghai for college though, as his "mother" tells him that she's really his aunt, and that she's dying so he should go be with his real mother, who's now the second wife of a rich man. Her stepson hates her, but is in love with Lin Pei Yu (Yvonne Yau), the daughter of a business associate of his father's. She decides to go to England for college. Separately, Nian Zhong also gets sent to England, where he meets Pei Yu. She takes care of him (he refuses to live on his mother's money).
Jia Qi also goes to England with her mother (her stepdad tried to molest her and her mom left him). Her mom gambles away all her money and they're almost out of options when Nian Zhong runs into her mother, and helps them pay some bills. They start dating, much to Pei Yu's disappointment, as she's fallen in love with Nian Zhong. Just when Nian Zhong has bought a house and they're supposed to move in together, Jia Qi's mom begged Pei Yu for plane tickets to leave England so that she can escape her gambling debts. An accident occurs, however, and Nian Zhong and Pei Yu learn of Jia Qi's death via the news. Checking the hospital tells them no different. This is just when they're about to graduate, so they return to Shanghai together.
Pei Yu tells her father she wants to marry Nian Zhong, and he eventually agrees. Pei Yu's father and Nian Zhong's stepfather were starting a restaurant/hotel together in Hainan. Nian Zhong's stepbrother is the director; Nian Zhong and Pei Yu are both assigned VP positions. They go to Hainan planning to be engaged.
What they don't know is that Jia Qi didn't die, but she is paralyzed, and has returned to Hainan with her mother and Nie Kai, who's also risen to an executive status in the same restaurant/hotel operation. They have their meeting, blahblahblah, Nian Zhong and Pei Yu are formally engaged at the restaurant. Jia Qi has also agreed to marry Nie Kai. Nie Kai and Pei Yu are pretty much the only people happy with this arrangement.
Eventually, Nian Zhong can't take it anymore and breaks the engagement. He quits at the restaurant, and follows Jia Qi to her doctor's teacher's place, where she may be able to regain use of her legs. (I forget where exactly...) He finally breaks through her barriers, and they've decided to be together no matter who it hurts. She regains use of her legs. During this time, Nian Zhong's stepbrother has arranged it so that it seems like Nian Zhong's embezzled company funds, and he's under investigation while not even there to defend himself. Nie Kai and Pei Yu are risking themselves in the attempt to clear him name, under the impression that by doing so, Nian Zhong and Jia Qi have no option of being together.
When Nian Zhong and Jia Qi return, Jia Qi can walk again. Nian Zhong's name is cleared, and it's spilled that his stepbrother was actually the one to fake it all. He's fired from his director position, and Nian Zhong's supposed to take it instead, as Pei Yu's fiance. But he turns it down, nominating Pei Yu instead. They recognize this as his rejection of their engagement. He is engaged to Jia Qi instead.
Nian Zhong's stepbrother hasn't forgotten any of this. He tries to stab Nie Kai one night, but Nian Zhong saw them and protected Nie Kai. He was stabbed instead, and put in critical. During the hospital wait that night, Nie Kai and Pei Yu realize exactly how deep the bond between Nian Zhong and Jia Qi is. Nian Zhong survives, and finally calls his real mother "mom," instead of "aunt." They start planning for the wedding in earnest after that.

Hidden Text:

The night before their wedding, Jia Qi's mother complains of having nothing to wear just when Nian Zhong calls and says he's arranged a shopping trip for Jia Qi and her mother. They're about to go when Jia Qi remembers that Pei Yu wanted to give her her wedding gift now, and she returns to the house to wait while her mom goes on ahead. Nian Zhong's stepbrother, however, intent on spoiling things for other people, sets fire to the house. Pei Yu arrives just as Jia Qi is being surrounded by flames, and together they manage to avoid being killed, but while Jia Qi is unhurt, Pei Yu has burns all over and is in a coma; the doctor is unsure how much brain damage she has from lack of oxygen.
Nian Zhong asks Jia Qi if she will support him, no matter what decision he makes. She says yes. Their wedding is off, and he is reengaged to Pei Yu. Nie Kai offers again to take Jia Qi and her mom with him to America, where he's going to be a wushu instructor. She agrees. They leave before Nian Zhong and Pei Yu's wedding.

Wow you narrated the whole thing... I agree with u that it was amazing. The ending was a bit sad, but I didn't find it disappointing in any way, just at first maybe. It's a type of series that you cannot easily forget.

I have no idea why it's rated 3 by ehit, yet Qian Jin Bai Fen Bai is 4. This series is very good, you will learn alot and will be moved from time to time. A good combination of romance, comedy and drama. The actors are all refreshing and goodlooking. Not only that, the scenery also is breathtaking. London is very beautiful, romantic and elegant. While Hainan reminds me of this classic province type way of living. The songs in this series are all nice and moving, the song "Yi Ke Ren Tan Qin" which sounds very classic reminds me of their London days. While the song "time", this song sounds very romantic and powerful, I mean the instrumentals and back up voices, it seems like I'm watching a western film. This song will make you cry at certain parts (Like in the ending). The chemistry between the feature couple is also good, their hardships of not being together and memories when they were young teenagers are reasons alone to strongly love them as a pair. You will see their love grow, as their characters mature. Overall, it is good, not that light and not that heavy or sad. Another great love story. Highly recommended.

I'm watching this series now. It's good. I really really like Sun Li. She's so beautiful. BLAH curious me, I read spoilers and ruined it for myself...for those that haven't read them yet DON"T READ THEM!

I totallly don't get it!!! WHY THE HELLL DOES WALLACE DUMP SUN LI TO MARRY "PEI YU" OR W/EV HER NAME IS????????? HE'S F#$%ING LOVED HER ALL HIS FREAKING LIFE!!!!! I'M VERRY PISSEED RIGHT NOW!!! UG!!! IT WAS SUCH A GOOD EFING DRAMA BEFORE TOOO UGGG
aND IT'S REALLY confusing too cuz at the end he's looking at the emerald necklae and thinking about sun li!! WTH!!!! It made me cry a river, when she said "nian zong wo ai ni blah blah blah...."

I was pretty pissed at the ending until like i realized the deeper meaning behind it and watched it more carefully... I guess he still loves Sun Li but like because pei yu did so much for him and sacrificed so much for him to be with Sun Li and got almost killed, he felt bad and felt that if he married Sun Li he would be living in guilt over pei yu's sacrifices. he's a good person... notice when she goes on the boat during their last meeting on the beach, he picks up her mp3 and starts blinking alot and covers up his face... he is holding back tears...

watching the movie rite now...i dun think think the story is that good!!...*sigh* but i loved the songs...and i think wallace looks ssooo HOT with glasses on!!

I havent seen the series, but having read the summary and ending of the series, it seems unique but at the same time far-fetched. It shows as if engagements can be easily broken and easily made. I c the reason for it. But engagements are supposed to be wen a couple are COMMITTED, not wen they are weary. Dats y pplz date rather than get married so fast.
And the ending [spoiler]breaking off the engagement just bcoz he wouldnt feel guilty. Yeah. But he would hafta spend the rest of his life wif her, while they both know who Nian Zhong wants to be with,.. its not setting up for a good future as a married couple. i think Pei Yu would understand that he is not for her and somehow let go.[/spoiler] One of the girl in it is from ISWAK 1, the teacher =D. I think its Pei Yu, not sure (a random guess).
