I havent seen the series, but having read the summary and ending of the series, it seems unique but at the same time far-fetched. It shows as if engagements can be easily broken and easily made. I c the reason for it. But engagements are supposed to be wen a couple are COMMITTED, not wen they are weary. Dats y pplz date rather than get married so fast.
And the ending
breaking off the engagement just bcoz he wouldnt feel guilty. Yeah. But he would hafta spend the rest of his life wif her, while they both know who Nian Zhong wants to be with,.. its not setting up for a good future as a married couple. i think Pei Yu would understand that he is not for her and somehow let go.
One of the girl in it is from ISWAK 1, the teacher =D. I think its Pei Yu, not sure (a random guess).

pei you and nian zhong have been together for a long time too.. that's bec. nian zhong thought sun li's already dead. There's also a possibility that nian zhong has loved pei you, the thing is just that he loves sun li more.

Well, yeah, you should follow your own happiness and don't lock yourself into a place where it is impossible to get out. But I guess, it's so common nowadays to exclude love in marriage. My sister had a bf before and they didn't marry eachother for some reasons although they're so in love. My sister instead chose another guy.. Her ex went abroad to work and now has three children and a wife. It's a pitiful kind of thingy but truly, it's somewhat reality. Therefore, I DON'T want to experience that in any way!

this serie is pretty good actually, i loved the way it ended, and the 'star-crossed' lovers kind of thingy.. and the fact that the whole story was just being told by nian zhong..

*bad ending bad

I totallly don't get it!!! WHY THE HELLL DOES WALLACE DUMP SUN LI TO MARRY "PEI YU" OR W/EV HER NAME IS????????? HE'S F#$%ING LOVED HER ALL HIS FREAKING LIFE!!!!! I'M VERRY PISSEED RIGHT NOW!!! UG!!! IT WAS SUCH A GOOD EFING DRAMA BEFORE TOOO UGGG
aND IT'S REALLY confusing too cuz at the end he's looking at the emerald necklae and thinking about sun li!! WTH!!!! It made me cry a river, when she said "nian zong wo ai ni blah blah blah...."

*edit**
I was pretty pissed at the ending until like i realized the deeper meaning behind it and watched it more carefully... I guess he still loves Sun Li but like because pei yu did so much for him and sacrificed so much for him to be with Sun Li and got almost killed, he felt bad and felt that if he married Sun Li he would be living in guilt over pei yu's sacrifices. he's a good person... notice when she goes on the boat during their last meeting on the beach, he picks up her mp3 and starts blinking alot and covers up his face... he is holding back tears...

I just finished this last night (watched it for three days).. I felt bad too like where the hell are they going? excuse me! after all?, why is she leaving with nie kai? insane!, but after a night of pondering, I came to realize that it's not a bad ending, in fact it just completes what I'm saying the "star-crossed" lovers idea, it's like no matter how hard they try to be together, forces of nature or whatsoever would still do its own way to separate them.

i got a pic here..

omgg this series is so good. im midway through the series, but i had to satch the ending after reading the replies here and it's so sad. though i don't agree with the ending, i thought the last scene was done really well to fully execute the ending and final chapter of their relationship. it doesn't seem like there was a lot of hype for this series compared to others. why!?!!? the acting is good, script is good, a lot of climatic points and endearing scenes!

i want a Part 2222. a part 2 should put them together.

very good series. this series has been posted in the download section of this forum.

Hi...you mentioned that this series has been posted in the download section...I can't seem to locate it? After reading all the reviews, this seems like a pretty good drama. Could anyone help me find a place to watch this series please?

I BOUGHT this drama on DVD produced form china.. quality is kind of like vcd .. only got it for 4 dollars:D:D seris is okay.. not so good i prefer yan zhi xue way more.

the only annoyances i found from this drama is the redundancy in the songs played in each and every episodes, the flashbacks that keep on appearing and reappearing. And i really loathe jia qi's mother.. she's a total b*tch very selfish. She only cares about money.. and wants her daughter to marry off a rich man so she herself can live in a wealthy lifestyle. At first she didn't like wallace nor george hu because they did not come from a rich family.. but when jia qi and her mother were stricken to poverty (didn't have money) the mother started to like wallace more because he became a prosperous business man.. but then didn't like him later on because george became more sucessful than wallace.. Found it so annoying.. she was like totally ruining the relationship of wallace and her daughter.

I heart Wallace in this show. i never thought he would end up with Pei Yu, it seems so unfair! I'm not a fan of Sun Li, but I really wanted Sun Li and Wallace to end together. Sigh.

(spoilers in my entry) I know it's years after this has aired, but i'm up for conversation about this... i feel so mixed inside. i feel like i didn't like the drama....but i can't help thinking about it and being perplexed..... so maybe it wasn't that bad because it's still on my mind?

i have some questions....anyone have answers?

I don't understand what happened at the end and why they decided to end it that way. is this a mainland china drama thing? why do the endings always have to be so tragic? at least i wanted to see that pei yu and nian zhong were happy. maybe not perfectly, but with her in bed sick? come on! that's just too much.

i loved wallace in this. he keeps getting better and better, don't you think?

what was the point of this drama? goodness. i enjoyed it all the way through, but now...i feel like i wasted my time. it felt like it kept going back and forth. back and forth.

at first i really wanted nian zhong and jia qi together...but by the end, i felt like i just wanted NZ to be with PY because of all she did. i think the way they ended it made everything feel so bad for EVERYONE. NZ is now married to a vegetable.

i feel like the supporting characters were almost all dispicable. jq's mom, the rich dad, his son....ick. too much manipulating and evilness. and then the not so bright gossipy over talkative roomate. even the aunt/mom was SOOOO weak and uncertain of her place in life...man...no one in this series was that likeable.

strangely though, i was captivated enough to watch the whole thing....the acting was good. the storyline interesting enough to keep you watching. the best thing about this drama was wallace.

I saw this drama a long time ago, so forgive me if I confuse the details. I think it was a mainland china production, but almost all actors were Taiwanese except for Sun Li.

I remember feeling baffled just like you after I finished the drama. I really didn't understand the point of the show either. It was suppose to be about the legend of the necklace, but in the end it completely disproves it. The ending especially feels contrived just for the purpose of giving the audience something to complain about so that the drama stays in their heads. I remember reading in an interview that Wallace Huo said he decided to change how he performed in the last scene (the one where he walks along the beach looking really hot) to evoke a more accepting, "happy" emotion instead of one that's depressing. After reading the script for the ending, he realized that fans would be really angry about it and wanted to essentially lessen the blow. In other words, even he knew it was a sucky ending.

I didn't like the characters either. They were all weak and irritating. I did however like Wallace. I really adore him so I only watched this drama for him and he never disappoints. Otherwise, I didn't like this show. But then again, I'm pretty white-washed and I absolutely despise idol dramas but for Wallace, I'm forced to suffer through them.

OMG I just finished this series...it was soo good...I cried so much at the end. Blarrghh!
Why couldn't Nian Zhong just marry Jia Qi and look after Pei yu at the same time? I mean, Jia Qi would understand, and it's not like he's two timing...
Wallace looked so hot. I love Wallace! Watched this for him! Wasn't disappointed at all! He looks so good in black or green...
I was a little annoyed with the flashback overuse though...
And that Shi Jie can just go dig himself a hole and jump into it...
