I have to say that this series' standard is as high as Jewel in the palace. Although the story is completely different but the actor's skills are very good and comparable to Jewel in the Palace.

I recommend strongly to ppl to start watching this series. I first watched the episodes with english subtitles but now I found that they're coming out too slowly so I started learning those simplified chinese characters and now i'm up to ep.7. It's extremely good.

I believe the series has now been extended to 80 episodes and it's also being shown in HK (dubbed of course).

I've just finished episode 7 (yes i'm slow n_tt2.gif) and to be honest, to me it's a little draggy, maybe it's because i can't just sit there for a few hours and just watch something i'm not a long drama person (god knows why i d/l this, but hey there must be a reason for the hype right?) Maybe i would have to grow to love the main characters because right now i'm really not loving Ju Mong and i'm not loving Seo Suh No. But overall the concept of the story is interesting (better than Jewel ...) i think i slowed down watching after Hae Mo Su was off and the attention was on Ju Mong after he's all grown up, the story i think begins to drag here, not alot happens but then sometimes they'll throw hints and that but still nothing that will make me pay attention very long.

First impressions, yes Ju Mong is supposed to be hated because he's spoilt and everything but in terms of acting imo Song Il Kook is kinda a bit wooden when doing the begging for forgiveness scene and the "omg what have i done?!" scenes. But when it's serious he's alright. As for Han Hye Jin, i don't like her. Maybe it's her character i'm not liking i can't tell which just yet, she's not very pretty either imo not that looks are everything, just another comment. But her expression overall doesn't make me like her alot.

The production quality is like Jewel in the Palace, expensive and better than your average k drama, i actually like the supporting actors WAYY better than the main characters right now. Ju Mong's mother, the Queen, King, Hae Mo Su, Dae So are great~~~ hell i even think Bo Young's (the palace maid who got kicked out of the divination thingy) skills are better than SIK right now. Probably the younger brother's acting skills are not good.

I hope it gets better from my eps since the ratings are VERY high right now (ep66 nearly hitting 50% nationwide), but if it turns out to be another Jewel style then i'm giving up now. Since like Jewel i didn't think it was very interesting, good acting but yeh it didn't interest me or kept me hooked after the little kids grew up.

Wow! this drama is getting more interesting now in GMA7...
IPB Image

Synopsis:
“Magnitude is about to start.”

You are about to go back to the time of Goguryeo, a time which was bigger than now.
‘A time when our nation was the most beautiful’, ‘A time when our nation was the center of the world’. Have you ever met such a time?! dares to journey into a time no one has ever gone back to. The most surprising time in history has come back 2000 years later, a time when the nation made China fall down to their knees and when we fought other nations without any fear.

Meet a hero bigger than the myth.
Alexander, Genghis Khan, we have the hero who overwhelmed his generation and changed history, Jumong! Up to now we have been used to dramas dealing with the history of kings and knights but now we are about to challenge in creating a drama with the birth of a true hero. A name only remembered as a myth. Get ready to meet Jumong, the hero who opened up the skies of the Old Joseon, which was once ours, by fighting thousands and thousands of armies.

Meet the love even bigger than the history.
‘Love’ seems to be the one common denominator across people of all generations and nations. ‘Love’ gets swept away with the waves of time and also gets hurt with biased views in societies, but it also creates a new kind of history by wrestling against adversity and the trials of time. True love, which is uncommonly seen in history, is re-drawn through the drama of our once forgotten history.
Through the wisdom and courage of Korea’s first queen So Seo-no...

IPB Image Jumong: King of Goguryeo who won back the skies of the Old Joseon (Actor: Song Il-gook)
Old Joseon (Actor: Song Il-gook) He is the son of Hae Mo-soo and Yu Hwa but grows up as the son of Geum Wa, a person who betrayed his father. He lives longing for the chance to meet his father, who is his teacher, again but he dies and lives the rest of his life not knowing that his teacher was his father. He loves a woman but ends up marrying a different one and eventually breaks up with her, but all these trials and sadness do not get in the way of his destiny. His legacy to the Korean people is the great historical triumph of winning back the skies of the Old Joseon and establishing the Goguryeo Dynasty.

IPB ImageSo Seo-no: A wise and strong queen (Actress: Han Hye-jin)
She had the intelligence and foresight to look out for the future generations but because she was a woman she could not live her dreams. She was not afraid of death but because she was from a weak nation, she had to bear a pain more painful than death. Although she couldn’t become the love of a lifetime to a certain man, she stands up to be a most powerful and wise leader. The first queen history remembers, in a time when love was lavished, yet not considered everything.

IPB ImageDae Soh: Jealously itself (Actor: Kim Seung-soo)
As a child he lost all his father’s love to Jumong. As an adult he bears a scar from not being able to be with the woman he loved. He brings Jumong’s father to his death and also does everything he can do to take Soo Seo-no away from him.

IPB ImageGeum Wa: An affectionate king (Actor: Jeun Kwang-ryeul)
Fought in a war with the Han Nation alongside of Hae Mo-soo; the two shared a friendship even thicker than blood but eventually surrender to the Han nation after which he betrays Hae Mo-soo.
He takes in Hae Mo-soo’s wife, a woman who lives every day longing for Hae Mo-soo, as his own wife and also takes care of Hae Mo-soo’s son as his son with both love and hatred and a very heavy sense of guilt.

IPB ImageYu Hwa: Motherhood of sadness (Actress: Oh Yun-soo)
The daughter of Ha Baek-joek, she has looks so stunning that anyone would fall in love with her at first sight.
She nurses Hae Mo-soo’s wounds with great devotion but ends up facing a tragedy when her people get murdered by the Han army for hiding Hae Mo-soo.
After hearing that Hae Mo-soo has passed away she falls into great sadness, but gets married to Geum Wa and gives birth to Hae Mo-soo’s son Jumong.

I would strongly recommend this series. The beginning may be a tad boring, but it starts to captivate its audience with each epsiode. Right now, I'm on episode 14 (not too far), and I love it. I love all these complications and entanglements. I really wonder how they can resolve them.

JUMONG is being aired in the PHIls GMA7 from Monday to Friday which I never skipped watching it. It is as great as Jewel in the Palace although, I learned that rating of Jumong in Korea is higher than Jewel. ... Inspite of this I also have a DVD copy for my collection purposes.

I'm not a great fan of watching anything that contains war, but with Jumong, I'm going to make an exception. When I first watched it I thought it's going to be bloody wars and war planning and whatever you can think/do with war. I mostly got this for my dad who loves histories and wars. However, as the plot develops it gets very interesting and I just have to keep watching it. My dad would stay up late at night to watch it. 80 episodes is a lot...but I hope the ending is going to make it worthwhile.

I was kind of dissapointed with how the relationship angle turns out and what happened to a certain character. But after reading their "profile" it's good to know that it's going to get better. I'm only up to epi 53 now, and from what I can see of the character's profile up there...I guess Jumong's current wife isn't considered to be part of the main cast. Or am I wrong?

Another thing I want to ask is...does anyone know the name of the song/artist that's being played in the beginning? I suppose that would be the theme song?

I just finished watching this series
81 episodes in a month! It's just too good that I can't let a day passed without watching biggrin.gif

But to be honest I don't really like the ending...
So Seu No has worked really hard and sacrificed a lot of things to help Ju Mong establish Goguryeo, but the ending seems a little bit unfair for her...
She and Ju Mong are a great couple but their relationship turned to be very formal in the end. Duh.
Some ppl said they want to kill the script writer for that happy.gif'
