Virtues of Harmony :
It starred Nancy Sit, Yvonne Lam, Cutie Mui, Frankie Lam, Bernice Liu, Michael Tse, Joyce Chen, Johnny Tang, Bondy Chiu, Louis Yuen, etc. There are 770 episodes altogether in two series and it ran from 2001 until its conclusion in February, 2005.


The sitcom is set during the prosperous Ming dynasty and centers around the Gold (Gam) family. Nancy Sit stars as Gam (Gold) Fu Yan, head of the Gold (Gam) household. Gam Fu Yan (Nancy) was once a notorious bandit but when the sitcom starts nobody is aware of her past, not even her children (step-children). As the sitcom begins, Gam Fu Yan is the owner of the most popular restaurant in the village called, Dong Mat Yim.

Dong Mat Yim is famous for its noodles which are cooked by Nancy’s stepbrother, Yau Nim Fu (played by Louis Yuen). Only Yau Nim Fu knows Gam Fu Yan’s past as a bandit and how she came into the family. Yau Nim Fu is married to Wan Ying Gei (played by Yvonne Lam).

Gam Fu Yan has three children, who are actually her stepchildren. They are triplets named; Gam Nien (Gold Year played by Frankie Lam), Gam Yuet (Gold Month played by Michael Tse), and Gam Yat (Gold Day played by Joyce Chen).

Gam Yuet (Michael) is married to two women, Sek Mei (played by Cutie Mui) and Lam Yuk Luo (played by Bondy Chui). Not long into the sitcom, Gam Yat (Joyce) marries Guo Yee Hong (played by Johnny Tang). Eventually, Gam Nien (Frankie) marries Princess Sum Tien (played by Bernice Liu).



明朝中業，天下承平，深田公主乃皇帝（明憲宗）的掌上明珠，因佻皮活潑深得皇上寵愛。但鑒於公主已屆適婚年齡，皇帝作一次「以文招親」為公主挑選駙馬。適時，金年（年）才高八斗，早為朝廷重用，前途無可限量，惜性格過於率直，在「以文招親」中，力斥公主興建荷花池，勞民傷財，因而觸怒了公主！並被貶為九品芝麻官，遣回家鄉「池力共鎮」接任縣令一職！年自幼喪父，有一母游念慈（慈），二弟金月（月）及三妹金日（日），三人是三胞胎同年同月同日出生，所以慈取三人之名為年、月、日，讓三兄妹銘記此情，血濃於水。
慈在「池力共鎮」經營一間食肆，名為「洞蜜園」；因食肆用料講究，美味巧手，因而生意滔滔，食客不絕；食肆有此成績，全賴慈在早年艱苦經營下之成果。慈為人低調，但卻有一派女中豪傑的風範，就是黑白兩道與街坊對之亦敬畏三分！原來慈年輕時，有一段不可告人的驚天身世，三十年前慈本是一名綽號「賽鳳凰」的女山賊！武功高強，劫富濟貧，因一次機緣正巧截劫了年、月、日之親父，適其時三子女之母作動，危急萬分，慈只好硬著頭皮負責接生，但其親母誕下三人後因難產過身，之後，慈與三子女之父發生感情，惟有金盆洗手，退出江湖，亦改名換姓，及後其夫過身，慈更獨力湊大三子女，彼此相處融洽。

慈將食肆掌櫃工作交由二子金月（月）打理。月本身體弱多病，故甚懂得養生之道，做事每每以健康為出發點，做事緩慢滋陰，實質不想勞心勞力，練精學懶。月有一妻林玉露（露），露為千金小姐，天生大花筒，要面要威，天生喜歡發掘人家的秘密，但往往又喜將探聽得來的秘密宣揚開去。而金日（日）亦到適婚年齡，希望盡快覓得如意郎君，可惜日諸多挑剔，弄致嫁杏無期，日在一次意外中與全"池力共鎮"最窮的秀才書生高爾康（康）結怨，日更對康嗤之以鼻，卻因一次陰差陽錯被康窺得全豹，因禮教所不容，日與康唯有成親。康曾應考了三屆科舉皆落第，後得慈點化，終明白考取功名不是唯一出路，決跟隨洞蜜園的拉麵師傅兼日的舅父游念富（富）學習拉麵。

游念富年幼時，痛失牯恃，但慈卻沒加嫌棄，反將富視如親弟養育成人。因富拉得一手好麵，成為「洞蜜園」的招牌菜，富雖拉得一手好麵，卻愛藏私，表面樂意教授康拉麵技術，但暗地裡卻唯恐教識徒弟沒師傅，遂保留實力，把最後一招收起。富有一妻雲影姬（姬），姬心地善良，任勞任怨，但可惜頭腦簡單，過份戇直。年有一好友石彪（彪），為縣中捕快，心絲細密，但可惜彪因查案過份緊張及小心，一件普通的事，往往弄至複雜起來，令人啼笑皆非！「池力共鎮」內住著金家與石家發生出不少離奇趣事出來，加上年性格樂天，並沒有因貶官之事變得意志消沉，相反，更樂於在鄉中任職縣令，不斷替鄉民解決不少有趣而荒謬的案件，為鎮中增添不少熱鬧。

their names were not supposed to be translated to "gold year" "gold month" and "gold day." they were supposed to be "this year" "this month" and "today." This makes more sense because "Today" was also Gam Yut's english name in the modern series. the word for "this" is not a last name in chinese but it soudns the same as gold so... yeah

i really miss this show ..it was so silly but adorable and it never failed to cheer me up. i thought the ancient version was better than the modern version though, maybe coz cutie, frankie and bernice left halfway and somehow to me the charisma of the show fell flat after that.

I love VOH. Definitly my favourite ancient series. It was always so funny and cheered me up whenever i was sad. My favourite characters Bonnie Chiu...her expressions were so funny and i love how she always exagerates the last word when she talks.

i liked watching virtues of harmony! the storyline was good and funny! My favourite character in the series was Bondy Chui's character and Bernice's Character! Even though it was a long series i really liked the little stories in the series as a whole! It is funny when the wives makes trouble! But i really preferred the ancient series (first) over the modern series!
