Ever since Jay Chou’s new single “Faraway” from his new album, was premiered on HitFM first across Asia, everyone was awed once again by Jay Chou’s creativity in his music. In this song, he called upon the help from the well known singer from Mainland China, Fei Yu Qing, for this collaboration. Showing once again that, “the moment the King (of the industry) makes his move, it is only a matter of time (before people take notice)” As everyone started singing along to the song “Faraway”, everyone (in HitFM) have been eagerly waiting for Jay Chou to come onto the station for an interview. Everyone is excited to be able to see Jay Chou again personally. And the response is understandable, as the response from the fans was overwhelming when Hitoradio.com organised a “Jay Chou teaches Chopin pieces (meet the fans session)” programme after Jay Chou’s previous album “November’s Chopin”. Therefore, in order to accommodate more fans to have the opportunity to meet their idol up close this time around, we (HitFM) have specially arranged a “Jay Chou – Getting your message across with the power of lyrics” meet-the-fans discussion, the purpose is to allow people to gain a better understanding of words, who better to get Jay Chou to conduct the session! Person: Jay Chou Announcement made on: 30th August 2006 Location: HitFM studio Event: Recording to the Hito & Taipei Music icons & Hitoradio.com programmes Part 1: “Hito Stage” filming Jay Chou was especially lively for this recording, wearing light coloured clothes. This new image reflects a higher level of maturity in him. The moment Jay Chou arrived on the set, he began reading the scripts for the shoot, and even though Jay was a familiar feature on Hito station, he was still very professional, and pronounced his words very clearly. The reaction from the fans was very proactive as well. But when the line, “(There’re) no ugly females, only lousy females”* comes, the words “A lousy lady” caused a lot of problems for Jay Chou. For a few takes, Jay Chou read “A lousy lady” as “A Blue Alien (Tourist)”, causing much laughter among the entire crew. Jay Chou joked that these three words were too difficult to read, and got every crew member on the set to repeat the three words once, creating even more laughter. Other than that light-hearted moment, there was another incident when the sound effect of the school bells used to indicate a change in period, Jay Chou used that sound effect to say another sentence, “Ye Hui Mei (his mom) makes the best set meals” A very filial Jay Chou explained that because his mom is a teacher, so his mom can hear his feelings (from the sentence he said earlier) when she’s teaching in classrooms; leading to many crew members touched by Jay’s sincerity. But almost immediately, Jay Chou realized one thing: That his mom has already retired. Crew members were laughing so hard by now they were close to tears. Part 2: “Musical icons in Taipei” filming After the filming for the “Hito Stage” was rapped up, the next on the schedule is the recording for “Musical icons @ Taipei”. As the topics and theme of the programme was more serious and touching issues, Jay Chou immediately became more serious, emphasizing his words very clearly, and even helped picked out the wrong words on our script (while he was going though it), living up to his title as a musical icon in Taipei! As Jay became more and more used to the recording, he gradually started to share his opinion on his past experiences and his thoughts. When a deeper issue are touched on, Jay Chou specially mention, “Whether is it a bad day you’re experiencing, it is still a day you must go through, why not try and live through it and go through it happily?” No matter how busy he was, he will still find the time to play basketball, because this is one of the healthiest ways of de-stressing himself. This lead to many of the crew members on the set, who are always cropped up in their office, to agree with Jay Chou by showing him the thumbs up sign. No wonder Jay Chou can maintain his body so well. Part 3: Hitoradio.com filming After the two recordings, the next that followed was of course our own Hitradio.com programme. A very work-ethic Jay Chou then took some time for a break while the set was being set up. At which point, many crew members took the opportunity to take out their posters for Jay to autograph on. Jay Chou was very generous and went ahead to sign the posters making everyone of us very happy. But of course, because we allocated all the time to our own crew members (hahaha, but we sacrifice the time that we were supposed to have a group photo with Jay Chou…) But to give what every fan wanted, this is considered a small sacrifice. It’s as though we invited Pres Chou to the set specially to the set to sign autographs, we at Hitoradio.com even created a special signboard for Pres Chou to sign on, even he thought the autograph was very diao! After the recording of the last programme, Jay Chou’s last activity at HitFM was to help us set up the “Jay Chou Still Fantasy K competition” footage. Jay Chou was especially concerned about this activity himself, so which songs will get extra credit if they were picked? Pres Chou then said, as long as it is his songs, the score will be especially high, but if you sing a Nan Quan Mama song… This is a very big hint for the fans who are intending to enter into the competition! Jay Chou then went to double-check the details of completion the footages at the end of two hours of filming. No matter how busy he was, a very perfectionist Jay Chou pays attention to every little detail. That’s because Jay Chou believes in doing something once and doing it good, time is not a factor. This is Jay Chou’s working attitude, and it can be reflected in his musical compositions. The rest of the article is a personal reflection of the DJ working with Jay Chou. |
