Personally, I think she is ugly, sounds like crap, can't act and basically talentless. Her nose looks as though it had underwent one too many plastic surgery. Anyone with the same opinion? n_thumbdown.gif

^^ I'm not a fan of QQ, but I definitely don't hate her as much as you seem to. In general, I think she's a bit over-rated as an actress (and in terms of looks) and has been given a lot of opportunities for someone of her age, but I don't have a problem with her personality or her singing (although that habit-- MD said this-- of picking her nose before a romantic scene and sticking the mucus on her co-stars' clothes is kind of weird).

I don't really think she's all that pretty, although I don't have a specific problem with her nose... which seems to be cited quite often as her flaw. I actually just think she looks sort of... "chu" (don't know how to translate this), which is not the syle of beauty that I like, but I've seen her look elegant as well, and I thought she pulled it off well. I tend to like about 1/4 of QQ's pictures/looks, but then again... it isn't her fault that she was given such an awful hairstyle in Mr. Fighting. I think I'd be hard-pressed to find ANYone who'd look good in that short bob.

Acting... to be honest, her acting skills, at least for me, leave something to be desired. She's probably good for her age, but for me the problem arises mainly because I think she's already been given a lot of lead roles... while other older, more experienced, and/or better actresses have NOT (just to name a few... XiaoQiao, Tsai PeiLin, Lu MingJun, even Megan Lai YaYan, to some extent... as she's never been the lead). I had a really hard time identifying with or liking XiaoBei; XiaoKui was likeable, but I think I liked her initially more out of pity than anything else. Still, I think that's the only one of QQ's performances that, for me, had a spark... (I've seen her guest-starring on Da Xiong Yi Shi Jia as well, so... ) Anyway, the point is not that she's an awful actress or that she should quit acting or that she doesn't have potential... I just think she's kind of over-rated and that she's probably been given more big opportunities than her current level deserves.

Also, I have a problem with young, under-age actresses having kissing scenes with men ten years their senior... although I now realize that QQ is definitely NOT the youngest girl (nor, by any stretch, the worst actress) to be put through this, it still doesn't sit well with me.

Singing-wise... strangely, although QQ's speaking voice kind of gets on my nerves after a while when I watch her in dramas (she tends to get a bit nasally and whiney when she's excited), I actually am a fan of her singing. I definitely think her voice has shown a lot of improvement in the past couple of years... and I wouldn't be surprised if she eventually had a solo singing career. Anyway, I like the husky tone of her voice, and her range is pretty good.

As to her personality, she seems really down-to-earth and friendly. There's got to be a reason that all of my favorite guys like her, right?-- if not romantically, than as a friend-- and so I have no problem with her being paired up with JR (as the rumors suggest), whom I <3... and that's saying something.

Anyway, I still think she has potential. If she gets there/fulfills that potential, then I will definitely give her a chance. I may even like her tongue.gif

I used to dislike her after watching Top of The Forbidden City, but later I decided she isn't as bad as I thought... it is just the character in TOTFC that I don't like...

I have never thought Sweety as a group that is singing material, no offense... but except for Ying Hua Cao, the rest of their songs are quite bland and nothing special... I can't tell which is Qiao Qiao's voice so I can't really comment on her singing a lot... but overall, I don't think both of them sing very well... I prefer seeing them hosting/acting...

Qiao Qiao is not remarkably ugly, and not remarkably pretty as well... to me, I think the only feature that is attractive on her are her eyes... the rest are pretty much normal-looking

I don't hate her, cause hate is a strong word. but I don't think that she deserves as much recognition as she recieves. And yes, i think she looks much better now that she got rid of her "mushroom" hair. But I still feel that her voice is pretty monotonous.

I dont like QQ at all. Ive never really liked Sweety becuase thier MVs look really childish and thier voices dont even match (harmony) so it sounds wierd. Then i saw Magicians of Love and some of Mr. Fightiing. I didnt like her in MOL at all, she was just so stiff, her crying looked faked... maybe this is just biased cuz i didnt even like her character in the series. Then Mr. Fighting, she was even worse in that one. Yes she is cute but thats all she has for her, honestly i think shes one of those cute girls who get work cuz shes cute,

i dont really like qiaoqiao either..it seems to me she's a bit fake and i really dont like her attitude when i see her on some variety shows..never really liked her acting either..watched her with MD in Love Magician..wasn't really impressed with her acting..

her singing could be improved..never really liked sweety that much..maybe its her voice that annoys me..thats why im probably not too fond of her..but i agree with something that someone said above..i think qq has definitely received a lot more opportunities than a lot of other people of her age..but i dont think she should be as popular or as 'hit' as they are tryin to promote her..i've personally seen a lot better artists in the taiwan industry!~

There was a long period of time when I didn't actually dislike QQ. I tried to be fair, give her a chance... wound up thinking she was over-rated, but not THAT bad.

And then last week's Power Sunday happened.

I'd never really watched QiaoQiao in a variety show before. It was my first time... she came on the show with Wilber Pan.
(Here is part one... you can find the rest by checking the user's videos.)

She whined nearly the entire time. "This house is too big! It's too hot! This is so unfair!"

She also didn't find anything except for a headband with a bow made out of seaweed. "Ewww! This is so disgusting!" she said when she found it.
They credited her with finding one of the children, hidden in a suitcase, but... if you watch closely, Wilber actually found it first... seemed more like he was hinting to QiaoQiao where it was/trying to let her find it.

At one point, she sat down on the bed and said, "I was thinking... if we lose, I'm not the one who has to give out the $60,000 NTD... that's the production team. And then, I don't have an MV or a CD, so that doesn't affect me, either. None of this has anything to do with me... so it doesn't matter what I do. So I don't care."
I found this statement pretty rude.

The last clue was related to a famous Jin Yong novel... but the book binding had "Gu Long" (the other most famous wuxia novelist) on it, instead. Wilber, an American school student for his entire school career, MIGHT be excused for not noticing... after time was called, though, Wilber DID find it. QiaoQiao-- after some more complaining-- said that WILBER didn't see the words "Gu Long" on it... implying that it was his fault.
When she had spent 15 minutes in front of the bookcase staring at the books.
And when she DOESN'T have an excuse of "American education."

It's one thing to be super-bad at this game/very unobservant-- as she proved she was when she couldn't tell... even after Wilber told her to pick it up... that a pen was actually made out of crackers o_O... it's another, however, to whine and complain and, basically, not care about anything.

I thought Rainie's episode was bad-- and I complained about that one, too (lest someone accuse me of being unfair to QiaoQiao). But QiaoQiao totally takes the cake...

I guess that's what happens when you're related to someone who's very powerful in the entertainment industry, though.
(Which, btw, is the rumor... supposedly, that's how she got into show business in the first place and got all those lead roles at SETTV right off the bat. Maybe now her relative is at CTS... since she's been headlining a lot of their shows, and there's literally NO other reason for her to have appeared on Power Sunday with Wilber. Before they began searching, she said that she had met Wilber less than five times ("less than I can count on one hand").)

Anyway, I am NOT happy. I grew up on variety shows where celebrities-- even HUGE names... like Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok, even Tony Leung-- had to work HARD for a few minutes of promotion. Everyone was humble and hard-working. I can't speak for how QiaoQiao acts on other shows-- because I simply don't know-- but I was extremely disappointed in the way she acted on this one.

I first saw her in Top on the Forbidden City and thought she was alright. She was quite young when she filmed that, so I decided to give her a chance. Her acting skills were okay considering her age. But as time went on, she got A LOT of leads in dramas. And like tammiest said before, she's quite young and I'm not understanding why she's been offered so many dramas already. Again, considering her age, I thought she'd get some supporting roles and maybe a lead role here and there. But again and again, she got the lead role thus making her really overrated. I remembered I tried to watch Magicians of Love, but then I couldn't go on because Qiao Qiao was starting to annoy me. Then, I tried to watch Mean Girl Ah Chu, and the same problem came up...

Other than her acting, I haven't really paid attention to her otherwise since she already started irritating me. I've never really listened to her music either. I actually quite like Yan Yan, the other member of Sweety along with her. But just for some reason, Qiao Qiao quite annoys me. As for looks and personality, I think she's not that bad looking. She can be cute. Her personality from what I have seen isn't bad either. Down to earth and fun. So it's not like she's a really bad person or anything. It's just an opinion, and I just happen to not like her...

thanks for the long post tammiest. I tot rainie was bad but reading your post, QQ is worse. I dont like her straight from the start actually. granted, her acting skill is not bad for someone her age when i first watched her in forbidden city. but her acting in magician of love irritated me so much. she always open her eyes very big so show that she is shocked and almost all her expressions are very exaggerated. I know her character is supposed to very comedic inside but i just got so irritated rather than amused by her. I prefer yanyan actually. though her voice is sharper, i think her look is more pleasant and her acting is more natural compared to QQ who tries too hard. i am generally quite neutral to taiwanese stars since i dont really watch their shows but QQ is one taiwanese star i really dislike

Tammiest, i read that Sun Derong really like her and always try to credit her for the success of When a prince turns into a frog. is that related to the rumor you are talking about.

Haha, I got hardcore bashed one time for saying that I didn't think QiaoQiao did that great of a job in AQMFS (I didn't even say it meanly! weeping.gif ). I'll just stay away from that topic.

I also prefer YanYan's acting (and YanYan as a person-- even though she makes mistakes, too), but I will admit that it's a BIT hard to compare their acting that objectively... QiaoQiao gets more roles, that's for sure, but her roles also seem to be slightly more comedic. YanYan's characters usually seem more like "Jade Maidens"... although I haven't seen Chinese Paladin, so maybe I'm wrong?

Well, it's a FACT that Sun DeRong really likes QiaoQiao. It's also a FACT that he de facto credited her as the actress for WZBQW (what the heck? He could have just promoted AQMFS instead... weird man).

I've heard two versions of the rumor I mentioned in my previous post... and from several sources. One is that "someone in Sweety" is related to (or has a close family friend who is) someone really high up in SETTV; the other is more specific: "QiaoQiao of Sweety" is related to (or has a close family friend who is) someone really high up in SETTV. I've heard the second rumor more often. And I just found out last month how YanYan entered the entertainment industry-- it's because her mother's best friend is Makiyo's mom, and she used to tag along to tapings and photo shoots. So it can't be her.

Plus, QiaoQiao's attitude this past Sunday... it really seems like there's someone behind her, right? It was a totally random match-up on Power Sunday (the FIRST I've ever seen!), but I can't help feeling that other actresses who were given the "air time" would have at least tried to make an effort. Or at least not been rude to the production team ("they're the ones giving out the money") and/or Wilber.

And it would explain why she gets so many lead roles.

Anyway, I've never thought of the two things as connected, but, now that you mention it... it does kind of make sense. Before, Sun DeRong's love for QiaoQiao (over ALL the girls in his own company) seemed very strange. But now, if there's like "pai ma pi" involved... well, it all makes sense.

Ultimately, I DO realize that half of the entertainment circle runs on "guan xi." I don't blame or resent QiaoQiao for having a powerful relative who is willing to protect and forward her interests. I DO, however, think that she should eventually stand on her own, and so it's very important for her to try to improve (at least she went to Mainland China this year and entered a singing contest). And, MOST importantly, not take things for granted.

At first i really dislike yanyan's acting mainly her voice actually. but she improved a lot on that and she seems more approachable actually compared to qiaoqiao. Her role is a typical act cute girl in chinese paladin. haha. but i think she did well in it.
if you watch all her shows, her expression are almost the same. it gets on my nerve. and her tears really look like eyedrops. i find that she sucks at emotional scenes and her comedic scenes are overly exaggerated. other than that, she handled it rather okay i guess.

Yeah. sometimes i wonder why sun de rong like qiaoqiao so much. i dont know what charm this gal has. but in any case, that is all rumors. not very fair to dislike her base on it. I remember watching a very old episode of the variety you mentioned with sweety as guests. yanyan was the one who found most of the items i think but qiaoqiao didnt have this kind of attitude. perhaps it's because she is not that famous at that time. i wonder whether the change of attitude izzit due to her increased popularity?

Yeah, I really, REALLY hated YanYan in Westside Story cluebat.gif but she was a LOT better in Mr. Fighting and Green Forest, My Home. I think QiaoQiao started out as the better actress... she did okay in Mr. Fighting, I think. But I don't know how she is now... 'cause I typically don't watch her shows. sweat.gif

I also think her comedic scenes are way too exaggerated. There IS definitely a way to be comical without being super... self-conscious? Does that make sense? I just get the sense that she's like... trying really hard to be comical. Whereas other exaggerated actresses (for example, Zhong XinLing) somehow manage to be NATURALLY comical, even when their lines and stuff are over the top.
But some people really like exaggerated acting, so... *shrugs*

QiaoQiao is definitely a much better singer than YanYan, though (in my opinion) tongue.gif Although I don't think I've ever heard either of them live. But I have a few of their songs on my mp3 player, including QiaoQiao's duet with Chen Yi.

Yup, like I said in my post, I don't actually resent her for having a powerful relative-- if, indeed, she does have one. She's not the only one. There are plenty of others (the people they know have variable power, though... some are just singers, some are old-time singers, etc.)... some of them, you have to go digging around to find out about them wink.gif
I only have a problem with nepotism IF the recipient REALLY abuses it. By like not trying to improve... by acting really diva-ish.
The Power Sunday episode was definitely a strike against her in my book, but I won't automatically assume that she's ALWAYS that way because of it. wink.gif

Anyway, QiaoQiao did mention to Wilber in the beginning of the episode that, the last time she was on the show, they found all the items... but that YanYan found pretty much everything. So at least QiaoQiao was honest about that, haha, didn't try to pass it all off as her own work. Haha.

But yeah, some people DEFINITELY do change when they become more popular... even people that I like. So maybe that's it?
