Dong Fang Daily (Mainland China)
source: http://www.dfdaily.com/node2/node33/node25...t1 ai23397.shtml

translation by kkla@www.nbbbs.com

According to DFDaily, the 30-episode tv drama, Qin Statue, is confirmed to start filming by the end of this year after 2 years of delay. Yesterday, TW's media firstly released the news of Yan Cheng Xu's challenging the role, Meng Tian Fang, which was played by Zhang Yi Mou years ago, and Yan Cheng Xu's talent fee will be up to RMB$160,000 per episode, which is as high as the top actors, such as Chan Dao Ming, in Mainland China. Yesterday, the reporter called the director, Gordon Chan Jia Shang, and he confirmed that Yan Cheng Xu is the most appropriate candidate for the male lead. Regarding the role played by Gong Li in the past, the possibility of being played by newcomer can't be ruled out.

Based on Chan Jia Shang's introduction, tv drama Qin Statue's storyline/scenes will be expanded to overseas. The production crew will travel to Tokyo, Japan for the filming, and the time travel love story between Meng Tian Fang and Dong Er which goes through 3 different lives will be fully elaborated in the tv drama. Chan Jia Shang indicates that the storyline/scenes in the tv drama is/are all new creation that it can't be found in the novel.

According to information, the script has come to the last editing stage and the finalized script will be completed by October. Chan Jia Shang indicates that the script has been worked on for 2 years. As this is his first tv drama, he has set high standards in the script. Regarding whether he has pressure to re-film a classic production, he mentioned when he initially discussed with Li Bi Hua, the plan was a movie, but as it is really difficult to surpass the movie, the project has turned into a tv drama. After all, tv drama has more capacity for telling a complete story with all the detials. If the tv drama gets good response, it is possible to have a movie version afterward.

Chan Jia Shang stated that the casting didn't start until last month. He has good impression on Yan Cheng Xu, feeling that he is reserved and low profiled that it is similar to Meng Tian Fang's character. Years ago, when Zhang Yi Mao played the role, he portrayed a rustic countryman. However, Chan Jia Shang said that time has changed, so do the characters. The audience will see a young version of Qin Statue. Besides, the reason he chose Yan Cheng Xu was also because of Yan's wonderful selling power in the overseas markets.

As the money involved is so big, it must rely on the overseas markets to make profits. Even the investors agree that Yan Cheng Xu has pretty good popularity in Korea and Japan, so they have confidence in him. Chan Jia Shang reviewed that the negotiation has reached the contract signing stage for both parties, and only the schedule and talent fee are still under discussion. Regarding Gong Li's role, he has not decided who will be the female lead. The preliminary plan is to cast a newcomer. At this time, his priority is to decide who will play Qin Shi Huang. Although there was rumor that Huang Qiu Sheng will play the role, Chan indicates that Huang's talent fee is high, so it may not push through at the end.

**ok, here's another rumored tv series he's in. he hasn't even confirmed to filming Basketball of Fire..and according to him, he's preparing for a movie to be shot next year. he's actually in Japan right now..
as to what he has chosen already (coz for sure it was planned ahead) and what will be filmed first, we'll just have to wait and see..

an ancient role?? would be interesting to see jerry in that kind of series..reminds me of that pepsi ad naturally.
but what will be filmed first? what has he accepted already?
i think the production for his tv series and movie has started already.

i even saw a blog with the owner saying she has had the chance to audition as female lead for jerry's TV drama. i just don't know what TV drama she's talking about.
and jerry's in Japan doing who knows what. he said he is preparing for a movie.
gosh, i just hope he confirms what projects he'll be doing soon.

A love story that goes through 3 different lives? That sounds a bit too similar to TVB's The Maiden's Vow... But hope it's good :]

Jerry to act in "Qin Yong"
Per episode fee is NT$660,000

Source: Takungpao

August 22,2007
summary by Jerry's Kingdom

As famous writer Li Bi Hua will be in charge of the plot, the NT$166 million-budget TV soap "Qin Yong" had already invited Jerry Yan to act as the male lead Major Gen. Meng Tian Fang of the Qin Dynasty. Because this would be Jerry's first traditional role, his talent fee will be around US$20,000 (approx NT$660,000).

First acting job in a traditional drama

The drama is tentatively scheduled to begin shooting on October. The production crew revealed that Jerry already expressed his desire to take the role. During his recent promo event the other day, Jerry revealed that he could not start shooting "Basketball Fire" on September because he decided go abroad to study language related with his work, which coincided with his schedule. However, Jerry's agent Matt Zheng said yesterday that presently, there are many production companies inviting Jerry to act in TV dramas, and they have not yet decided on which to choose.

"Qin Yong" is a story of a Qin Dynasty Major Gen. Meng Tian Fang and Qin Shi Huang who draft enlisted virgin lady Dong Er and reincarnated searching for their faithful love. As Jerry will dress up in a traditional costume, it will be a probable selling point. Matt Zheng laughed and said," That is not what we consider as the main point, la!" He stressed that when Jerry chooses the companies to work with in any drama, the most important requirement is a good script. He has no limitations to the role. However, he also expressed :" My side is here for the "Qin Yong" script. Regarding Jerry's next step, people need no further guesses. In short, companies can help him choose the right script."

According to reports, besides waiting for news on Jerry's acceptance for the role of Meng Tian Feng, the drama team revealed that the selected actor for the Qin Shi Huang role has confirmed to be Anthony Wong while acting as Xu Fu is Eric Tseng. This will be directed by Chen Jia Suang.

A love story that goes through 3 different lives? That sounds a bit too similar to TVB's The Maiden's Vow... But hope it's good :]

Qin Statute/Qin Yong precedes Maiden Vow by many years as it was filmed into a movie 18 years ago, Gong Li was the lead actress while the now famous China director, Zhang Yi Mou, played the male lead of General Meng. Its an action cum romance story.

This serial will be directed by HK director, Gordan Chan.

Since this kind of tv drama will need a lot of money to film, many more times the money needed to film an ordinary tv serial, the producers wld want to sell as many overseas rights as possible & at a high price to recoup their investments & make a profit.

by kkla @ nbbbs.com - The novels Qin Yong and Farewell My Concubine (starring the late Leslie Cheung & Gong Li) have the same author, Li Bi Hua. The script of the movie Farewell My Concubine was adapted by Li herself, so did the scripts for the movie Qin Yong in 1989 and the upcoming tv drama Qin Yong. Li is a popular writer for novels, scripts, newspapers/magazine columns in HK.
Gordon Chan has directed dozens of movies in HK and he is a wonderful action-movie director.

by kkla@nbbbs.com - In Qin Yong, Meng Tian Fang was a general who fell in love with Dong Er, one of the 500 virgin girls chosen to sacrifice for Qin Shi Huang (the first Emperor) in the process of looking for longevity medicine. Then they were punished. As the story goes on, they met in 3 different time eras in total, Qin Dynasty, 1930's, and 1989.

Emperor Qin Shi Huang is considered as the 1st Emperor of China as he manage to conquer & unify the many different states that were existing in China back then. He's the one the build the Great Wall of China & the one where the world famous terracota warriors in Xi'an, China , were unearthed from part of his tomb.

Taiwanese heartthrob Jerry Yan is rumoured to star as an ancient hero in his next TV drama.

The drama is based on China’s Qing Dynasty. Jerry is rumoured to take the role of a famous general. Other stars that have been linked to the drama include Hong Kong veteran actors Anthony Wong and Eric Tsang.

Jerry’s agency haven’t confirmed the rumours yet, but didn’t deny it either; normally when the agency chose not to deny it, the rumours are likely to be true. We will have to wait for the official announcement before 100% sure about it though.

What ever drama he chooses I'll support him....
Both dramas have their pros and cons.. so I better not choose (as if I have the say unsure.gif ) and leave it to Jerry....

The Ancient Drama is a BIG Production and He will be with veteran actors to help him become a better actor and learn a lot from them....
But this drama is so Physically demanding for Jerry....and few young people appreciates ancient dramas....

On the other hand, Basketball of Fire is really fun and it's relaxing....Jerry will enjoy the shoot since he got the passion for Basketball....And this is what the youngsters like (w/c is the majority of the audience)
But there will only be little or no growth at all, in terms of his acting skills here or little increase in experience.....

Hmm... most probably Jerry will choose the Ancient one......But he will be really cool in whichever of the two....

i'm confused~ is this a mainland production or a HK production?
it sounds like a Mainland prod from the article, but the director and the confirmed actors- Anthony Wong and Eric Tseng are from HK right?

so this has the theme of reincarnation? it says they have to go through 3 different life periods. i just hope they'll tweak it a bit so we can have an ancient period and the modern period, so we can see jerry in ancient costumes and of course modern ones too!!

i still think there can be a possibility for Basketball of Fire. as i think jerry wanted to do a lighter role for his next series after the heavy role in The Hospital, and the girl blogger who said she auditioned for jerry's drama said it was a pretty fun role she had auditioned too. so i guess there can still be Basketball of Fire or a lighter drama.
then he can also do this ancient drama after.~~

Its a HK production. And the 3 different life period starts from the Qin era (abt 2,000 years plus) during the reign of Emperor Qin who built the great wall of China, the 2nd life period is during the 1930's & the 3rd life period is modern day.

So if Jerry takes up the role, he will played the part of a General in the Qin Army, so its definite will see him in Qin era costume & as the 2nd & 3rd life period is more to modern times, will also see him in modern costumes.

Till now, Jerry has never officially confirmed abt BOF or this new tv serial, Qin Yong. All news were from reporters getting their sources from elsewhere. The only official comment from Jerry was during his Mia event in 8/18 when he was asked abt BOF, he said he has not decided yet.

By all accounts, Qin Yong, from all angles, seems to be a well-prepared serial. 1st, the budget is high as its not cheap to film anything connected with the past & QY has to recreate the settings of ancient Qin era & the 1930's. Furthermore, as it involves Emperor Qin, its definite that the production have source to for palace, horses, carriages, armours, costumes, etc, etc. 2nd, the script has been in preparation for 2 years. 3rd, the producer is a well-known HK director.

It wld really be fantastic if Jerry takes up the role, its a romance tv serial but there will also be some action scenes involving General Meng. Jerry can be seen in both ancient image & modern image.

There go another rumour and just with the name Jerry in it, the news spreads across Asia over night again.

I support both BF and this ancient one. But if he has to choose just one, I would love to see him in the latter. It's more challenging and he will have better chance to prove his acting skills.

Whatever, way to go Jerry.

but production of the kind like Qin Yong dont come by everyday. its adapted from a famous movie, starring the late great HK Leslie Cheung, this shld be the 1st remake after 18 years, the budget is high, storyline is very interesting & the producer is a very experienced HK one. i think a lot of young male actors wld be eyeing such a meaty role. plus its a challenging role & Jerry's acting skills & experience will go up another notch.

for BOF, after so many months, it has neither been confirmed officially by Wu Zun's mgt nor Jerry's mgt .

its better if we wait for official confirmation from SJ abt Jerry's confirmed acting projects.

From news of Wu Zun in recent days, seems that he has a heavy schedule this coming months with promo of Romantic Princess. So its impossible abt news by the media that BOF will start filming in Sept. Also, Wu Zun has fallen sick bcos of his past few months heavy schedule & he still has the promo of RP. So really doubtful whether he can handle filming of BOF so soon bcos it involves lots of basketball scenes.

If Jerry is really interested in filming BOF, looking at the circumstances, it wld be better to postpone BOF to another time & film other acting projects 1st.

JERRY IS A SERIOUS ACTOR SO I WOULD WANT TO BELIEVE THAT HE WOULD DECIDE ON ONLY ONE PROJECT BECAUSE HE WOULD WANT TO CONCENTRATE ON THE ROLE.

So I reckon he would be perfectly fine in Qin Yong than in Basketball of Fire. Besides having the support of a respectable and internationally known cast and production crew, the role is very challenging, dynamic and highly impressive, something he has not done before.

However, because Jerry personally loves basketball, it would indeed be a very hard choice for him. At any rate, official confirmations will be revealed soon from Jerry's camp. By that time, whatever project he he chooses between these two offers (or perhaps the press would again come up with another one) , we will support.
