S.H.E, Wakin are Taiwan's top-earning pop acts, Saturday December 1, 2007 Singapore Options

TAIPEI - Don't call Wakin Chau a has-been yet.

The 46-year-old singer-songwriter ranks among Taiwan's top earning pop acts this year, following a successful series of concerts. says Apple Daily.

His income of NT$263 million(S$10.3 million) earns him the No.2 spot, behind popular girl group S.H.E, with NT$314 million.

Pop stars A*mei, Jay Chou and Wang Lee Hom come after Chau, with NT$252 million, NT$243 million, and NT$195 million respectively.

Rounding out the top 10 are pop princess Jolin Tsai, rock band MayDay, singers Show Luo, David Tao and Angela Chang.

about s.h.e, well, i assume the earning listed here is split between the 3. so individually, it's not as much

who's walkin chau? i don't even know him. and david tao, i didnt know he earns so much. as for the rest like she, jolin, angela, show luo etc....its no wonder seeing that they're so famous with chart-top hits & huge endorsement deals....wonder what they do with so much money...

Emil Chau Wakin is one of the best singer / songwriters to come out of Taiwan, although he's originally from Hong Kong. He has an awesome voice and I was lucky enough to see his concert in Vancouver about 2 weeks ago. I got to meet him after the show and he is just one of the most gracious and charming men I've ever met. And he has a wicked sense of humor! He's my second favorite singer behind Jacky Cheung, who I also had the pleasure of meeting in August. Anyway, Emil Chau is truly a great talent and, like Jacky, has been in the business for over 20 years. Congratulations Emil!! You're AWESOME!! I hope I get to talk with you again someday.

SHE held quite a lot of concerts in mainland I think. So not surprising that they'll earn so much.

I *think* jay, jolin etc didn't have as much concerts held so maybe that's why they didn't top.

I don't think this is for concerts only, I think it includes everything?? CDs, shows, concerts and stuff. I'm not sure though.. Jay's CD only got released recently, and so did his concert. So I guess he'll earn more next year.

I wouldn't count rainie as new. She was in the entertainment industry when Meteor Garden aired. After all she hasn't had many money making opportunities. She only has her shows and CDs to rely on.

^ yes, i don't think Rainie has had much opportunity to be included in this list. She doesn't do very much to promote her self.

but i'm happy that S.H.E are on top even if they split 3 ways, each gets over $100 million, that's a fair bit

LOL 'doesn't do much to promote herself'??? I thought she was quite over-promoted, cos I always see her around. Unless you mean she hasn't branched into different areas, like concerts, because I read somewhere that concerts are the main money-makers in TW, not CD sales.

^^yeah, i believe concerts are usually how artists make most of their money in taiwan. that's why they have so many of them XD

I'm happy for SHE for making the most. even though individually they might not get as much as one of the other top stars, most of their income is probably from all their concerts so they earned it as a team....

haha its not surprising that the celebs mentioned earns so much money they have so many branches for them to earn money. acting,singing,endorsement deals etc. its expected that S.H.E came in first because in 5 years, they really held a huge amount of concerts!

And Jay has Secrets so it's hard to believe that with that counted in, he lost to SHE and Wakin.
Secrets seemed to have done relatively well.

And Rainie definitely isn't new.

Wow! Congrats to S.H.E for being on the 1st position.. They deserved it after all that hard works.. Congrats for the other too.. Cant believe Jolin isn't in the top 10..
And yes, agree, Mainland market is a BIG market, a great place to earn $$ once a star has been excepted by them, and i believe that's not easy.. They kinda have a high expectation, a high standard, or should i say a high taste?, for an artist.. S.H.E were not that welcome in there back then, but they manage to "steal" their heart, and become one of their favourite group, judging from their concerts' success.

Yeah, Rainie isn't all new in E-industry, or to be exact music industry, she joined 4-in-Love (a singing group of 4 girl) around 2001 (the same time with S.H.E), or maybe b4 or after that, i'm not sure. That's where she got her Rainie name or originally Rainy, 3 other personils name was Cloudy,Windy, and (correct me if i'm wrong,kinda forget) Shiny.. One of their songs that i like and still listening is "yi qian ling yi ye", oh and "print my heart".. Basically, i think their good, but maybe isn't good enough to compete with other groups back then, so they got "eliminated" and disband..
