Last October, Kyuhyun of Super Junior and Charice, A Filipina Singer, did a beautiful rendition of a Whole New World. Just Recently, at AnyBand concert, DBSK Xiah Junsu and BoA also did a very touching rendition of a whole new World. Which version do you think is better? What made you say so?

Wow, that Aladdin Theme song sure's getting famous in Korea nowadays.

What can you say about these two duets? Which version better suits your taste? What can you say about the chemistry, the emotion, the over-all performance of both duets? Which duet owned the song and which sucked?

I didn't know Junsu and BoA did a duet!

Kyu Hyun and Charice's duet in Star King was like one of the best moments! Honestly, Star King always shows so many incredible performances. I believe Kyu Hyun is not remarkably fluent in English, but his singing made him sound so much like he's been abroad, in an English-speaking country. I listen to Kyu Hyun lesser than I listen to Junsu, but Kyu Hyun's pronunciation amazes me so much! That was the first time I've heard him singing in an English song; I didn't expect anything like that.

My choice will be Kyu Hyun+Charice's duet. Their chemistry through their voices was complementary and impeccable.

I've heard BoA speaking in English back then, and I'm a little disappointed with her performance this time. I remember she speaks in English with minor Korean accent, but in this performance, her Korean accent was quite strong. It made some of her pronunciation unclear.

If I'm not mistaken, Charice must have been through a shorter period of training in her family? I got to say, at her age, it's very hard to find voices like her. I remember someone said in the Philippines voices like that are very common, however, they're quite rare to us foreigners. Hence, the impressed expressions of the audience in Star King.

BoA had so many years of training, and something about her voice doesn't make her the best singer, especially in non-Korean songs. I would give her a 70%. The main flaw is her pronunciation.

The same goes to Junsu. Junsu has been an amazing singer, but when it comes to English songs, there's something insufficient. Pronunciation again. In my opinion, pronunciation plays a very important part, so usually I take note of it more than other things.

I wouldn't say Junsu and BoA's duet sucked, but rather, Kyu Hyun and Charice's duet sounded more suitable for the song. Since the original singers are of the 'senior' level, Kyu Hyun and Charice duet sounded 'young' and fresh. They totally created a new feeling for the song. At least to me.

Wow... I was gonna go and give a full blown explanation on why I would choose Charice and Kyuhyun (minus the fact that I'm a Filipina and a full-blown Super Junior fan at the same time so it's kinda like my dream pair... Philippines meets Korea) but I'll just go ahead and point your rationale as my reason.... kekeke!!! DITTO!

Oh, and you're right about the thing that in the Philippines that kind of talent is common... Every place you go to has a talent similar to hers or a songbird, if I may use the term, of this city and that... But I'd have to say that Charice's voice is exemplary since there's a "feel" or her singing isn't just for the benefit of singing but she puts her emotions in it so I'd have to say she's on a higher level than most I've heard and seen...

But I do think it's quite unfair to just base their performances on pronunciation(although it has a huge impact on the song) but you'd have to think first that regular schooling in Korea doesn't include English usage in their everyday curriculum and compare that with a 14 year-old's exposure to English since preschool is quite unfair... but that's just me... kekeke!

But, of course, Kyuhyun's and Charice's blending are quite unique and very moving and you're right about how the original soundtrack was sung by professionals not just in the music business but also in Broadway... (Jasmine's part was sung by a Filipina Broadway performer)

With the original having such caliber, the both of them did an excellent job~ it was a very touching performance!!!

kyu and charice did better than boa and junsu although both of them have great vocals, kyu and charice owned the song ^^ i mean it really suits with their voices plus they are both young, i am not saying that junsu and boa is old but then i just don't know.. peace.. im a junsu fan 2 ^^

Hmm...

I REALLY loved Charice and Kyuhyun's rendition. I fell in love with it when I first heard it and I was *really* pissed that Star King cut out the second [female] verse. You can tell after Charice comes into the duet, she's supposed to get her own little verse, but they cut it out in the final released show. Which sucks because I would have LOVED to hear more of Charice's voice.

AND I was quite surprised to hear Junsu and BoA do a rendition. Not unpleased, just surprised. Junsu made me swoon though; his voice always does. BoA was... well, my feelings towards BoA are quite ambiguous at best, but she is a solo singer and that shows vividly in her singing.

Kyuhyun sings in a group, and by nature, he DOES have a quieter voice. It's not as bright as Ryeowook or as husky and naturally loud as Yesung's. Charice has a very loud and powerful voice, but since she was trained in singing from such a young age, she shows exceptional control of her voice. She's quiet when she needs to be quiet and lets her voice blend, BUT without losing her personal flair. Therefore, you could still distinctly hear Kyuhyun in the background while NOT losing Charice or vice versa. This made for a very pleasant duet as the song was intended.

Junsu has ALWAYS had exceptional control of his voice. His voice could easily overpower the rest in the group, but he always controls it very subtly (to contrast with Changmin, who is by nature a very loud singer and his voice sometimes overpowers the rest; only recently has Changmin shown a little improvement in that department) in order to enhance the harmonies of the group OR to stand out (such as in "Last Angel" where he did backup and harmony with Koda Kumi beautifully along with his own solo bridges). Therefore, he actually isn't quite bad in duet situations which works for the benefit of him and his co-singer.

BoA, on the other hand, has been a solo singer for a very long time (and also trained as thus) and is NOT as naturally skilled as Charice is (my opinion, so no hating or arguing here) therefore, her voice EASILY overpowers Junsu in the duet. Especially towards the end. Also, because BoA's voice isn't *quite* as polished as Charice (like Aspire says, something stops me from admitting that BoA is as phenomenal as Charice because I honestly don't think she is that great) and therefore, her mistakes in pronunciation and attempts at vocal belting are further enhanced. Not to mention, BoA was trying to sing this song in a slick R&B style, but BoA's voice just can't do that. Also, personally, BoA does not really have good control of her voice. Unlike some singers who CAN effortless pull into falsetto or vocal fry, BoA has been singing in her particular style for so long that I think unless she was to practice a song intently beforehand with coaches, if left to her own devices, she won't be ABLE to figure out exactly how and where softening of the notes will sound better or whatnot.

I also think Kyuhyun and Charice bought their own spin on the song and made it their own. Junsu did very well too (and his pronunciation was startling clear... so I was cheering him on!), but BoA only gave me the feeling that she was attempting at bringing some life to this song, but wasn't succeeding. BoA's prounciation also irritated me beyond comprehension especially since isn't she supposed to be working on her English right now? She can't be more busy than DBSK and even Xiah got his pronunciation down fairly well (but Junsu has ALWAYS worked exceptionally hard on enunciating). Not to mention, Kyuhyun and Charice's voices DID mesh together MUCH better than Junsu+BoA. I feel that Charice's beautiful voice really inspired Kyuhyun to really sing his best (and the thrill of being with SuJu after such a long recovery) and both of their voices just really complemented each other not in terms of just how well they SOUNDED together, but their voices encouraged each other to sing their best and to the fullest (like how in DBSK their voices encourage one another)... BoA didn't really give Junsu the encouragement that he needed because of her lackluster attitude towards the song. And I think that brought Junsu down a bit too.

Ultimately, I would LOVE to hear Junsu+Charice though. THAT would be insane.
For now? Kyuhyun and Charice win.

Definately Kyuhyun and Charice.
They both have way better pronouncations, and their voices go together better. they definately sang it with more passion too. i bet they were remember the first time they both performed this song, on their respective competitions.

I think BoA was a little off during her performance. She wasn't doing her best, and she sounds like she's slurring her words. It gave me a "I just want this song to be over" feel. I'm a little dissapointed in junsu's case. I LOVE JUNSU, and this isn't his best duet. junsu has such al ovely voice, but it didnt shine in this song.

The thing about bosu's performance is that junsu has a higher pitched voice, and BoA is a girl, so naturally she's high too. the whole thing made me feel tense, for some reason. kyuhyun and charice have deeper voices, and charice can go high without sounding screechy.
charice and kyuhyun's version was so soothing. it made me melt and i just HAD to listen to it a million times.

I still like the dbsk official recorded version best though =) because im biased biased biased

Hmm well Charice has a great voice and her english is great, there for I like her.
I love Junsu...so I have to say the BoA and Junsu one.

Junsu's and BoA's performance lacked...something. I'm not sure what, but I'm still trying to figure it out. Actually, the entire AnyBand concert seemed to be lacking something. I'm assuming because the actual recordings of the songs have probably been digitally modified to give it that high-tech feel that compared to the actual performance, it just flopped without the enhancements. The entire concert was really....lukewarm. =/


Charice and Kyuhyun. I saw Charice on Ellen the other day and oh my goodness, that girl can SING. I was crying at the end of her performance because it was so...she gives me goosebumps.

So I guess my vote goes to Charice and Kyuhyun. Not because of that little girl's talent, but because it felt like they were actually *singing* it, not just doing it for "another performance".

i didnt think it was THAT bad....it was just the english that was a bit off, but their harmonies and stuff were fine....<3 both of them have such good voices

Biasy aside.. Charice-Kyuhyun duet is better in all aspects.. vocals, pronunciation, diction, presence..
although I am a Junsu and BoA fan too..
It's true, most filipina singers has the same vocal range and style as Charice (even better than her..) so I wasn't really that shocked when I saw her performance..

Kyunhyun's warm, deep voice matched with Charices voice perfectly well!!
They made me love the song more!!
Even though Junsu and Boa are INCREDIBLE singers, their pronounciation was totally off, which made me not like the song that much....And I don't think their voices were suited for each other, since Junsu's voice is kinda high, same with Boa's, so they didn't have a nice blend

OMG!!! i couldn't believe that my idol SUPER JUNIOR and my co-filipino, Charice did have a duet at first... while i was watching them.. i was like: "ohh!!! im so proud! im so happy! im really really glad to see this kind of duet! im going crazy!!! waah" kyuhyun's english was really fluent in that song.. however, if you listen to his english properly (excluding the duet) he did have a very strong accent. but in that song, he just extremely made me go: WOW! i repeated the video several times, specially during his part.. i just couldn't believe how good is his voice... charice is also good.. i reckon we don't need any further explanation about that.. she's just heaps TALENTED! she's so lucky to have a skinship with almost every suju members... im so proud to her as a filipino..

their duet is really good.. it's very perfect! i couldn't forget how the audience and even the suju's expressions are.. they were all open-mouthed.. and almost drooling while listening to the song. if im not mistaken, some members did even cry...

considering I love KyuHyun's voice more than anyone else's, I thought he totally rocked that performance. And what made it more special was it was soon after his accident and he wasn't 100% fit but he still sounded awesome. I cried because Teuk and KangIn cried. Anyways...Charice was also awesome. Her voice overpowered Kyu's slightly but it worked out well.

Now I love Xiah (maybe even more so than Kyunnie)...and his voice is a-m-a-z-i-n-g to say the least. But like I said it still comes 2nd to Kyu's voice. I agree that the pronounciation was off too...however it wasn't THAT bad. JunSu's known for his great Engrish. heheheheh
BoA...majorly disappointed in this performance from her. It sounded nasally...on the verge of annoying. It's unfair to compare her English pronounciation to Charice though.

anyhow...i preferred the Kyu-Char version.

im a junsu fan and i also love boa but i have to admit the duet with charice and kyunhyun was simply amazing. if we look at it charice and kyunhyun just had to sing it right then totally undecided but the concert of anyband with junsu and boa had rehearsal. it was also a realli specially time for kyuhyun after the car accident and i think he raelli did his best. charice is a very powerful singer at her age.

i can see what some people are saying boa voice is missing something. and how she tries to add her own flair to the song but fails. her pronouciation is realli off and that cuts off te clarity of the song. and the way she sing it was too soloish. she didnt realli blended with junsu

junsu engrish even though his accent was there was prettie good! lolzx i always love his voice and his live singing is always filled with emotion from the heart. dbsk also did a verzion of a whole new world in either thier five in blk or t album. i was kinda surprise his english was prettie than i expected.

kyuhyun realli had the feel for a perfornance. i guess thats why he was raelli engage into the song after all tat happen he was definatly happi to be back and it was realli good opening for his return. even though junsu put his heart into every song i had to hand it down to kyunhyun it was his special day after all.

Asides from the reasons their English pronunciation was better, their voices were more in harmony and blend very well together for the song. I might not know that much technicalities in singing but all I know is that these two totally blew me away with their performance!!!

As for Boa and Junsu, well Engrish fail aside, Boa's tone came off rather nasally to me. It was like..her voice was overpowering Junsu's and thus, the song didn't have that much of an impact to me as Charice and Kyuhyun's did.

With Boa and Junsu, their pronunciations wasn't as good as Kyu&Charice's.
Junsu's voice wasn't as strong and Boa's voice didn't come off as comforting. . . kind of "nasally" if you will. . .


(ALL are talented singers though.)

i choose kyuhyun-charice although actually i'm don't like charice personality
imo they have a beautiful & amazing voice. what i heard that their voice blended perfectly and hear their voice make me goosebumps. i like junsu-boa version too. actually junsu is my fave member on TVXQ but i must concere that junsu's english pronounciation not too good. i'm not say his pronounciation bad but hear junsu speak english little bit funny i'm sure you know what i mean
