You may be ready, but they're nowhere near ready for you!

Not too long ago, Allkpop reported Lee Soo Man's decision to promote Kwon BoA in the United States. Following up as scheduled, the boss confirmed that boy band TVXQ, who will also debut in America, and BoA are indeed not ready for America.

The press conference, held in early May, was long awaited as everyone wanted to know what would be of the two entities. Lee Soo Man at first briefly talked about plans for the U.S. market and tried to direct attention away from it. He moved onto other matters but as reporters pressed on the topic of America, he reluctantly replied with a simple “Not yet.” Lee Soo Man added that he will have TVXQ and BoA expand their careers in Asia before crossing borders. On a brighter note, they’ll be back in Korea! “Before any of this can happen, things need to be done and goals need to be met. Only then can we move onto another goal.”

This truly shows that Lee Soo Man knows what he is doing. Unlike JYP and YG Entertainment, he did not lie or over-entice netizens only to leave them hanging for several months.

I think that TVXQ can definitely take on America.
They'll do really well. Even the nonspeaking Koreans will really like their music.. I'm one of them. To be honest, I think TVXQ will be extremely popular worldwide. They've got a lot of potential that causes everyone to like them. And there is that reason why they are promoted smile.gif

BoA, good luck too! She's got a nice voice.

*sigh* I might be the only one who doesn't want TVXQ to debut in America.
It's just that the US industry is cold and idol boybands aren't exactly "in" here.
I would hate to see them be bashed...

As for BoA...she would do better in America mainly because of her current position. This might sound ironic, but a female solo artist would do better here (LOL normally it's the other way around)

All in all, there's a problem here that's been here for years: racism.

i agree. i think they are ready to take on the whole world but america is not yet ready for them. i think the american industries and stars cannot yet accept outsiders. i know that they are popular already in the america but the rest of america need to adapt first.

I do not want TVXQ to debut in America. The American music industry is a tough place to be in, and debuting the boys in America is like feeding them to the wolves. Besides, they'll have to completely change their image and music, two things that I love most about them, if they want to have any kind of chance here.

TVXQ still has a lot of things to do and countries to conquer in Asia. Besides, Asia loves them.

I also agree with all of you. Boy bands are not popular in the states anymore unless they are planning to just target teenagers. BoA might have a chance in the future. As for Rain, American just think that he's a Justin Timberlake wannabe. If they want to success, they have to create their own style.

I too agree with most of you guys who posted. I love DBSK ALOT, but they may not be as successful in America than in Asia. Boyband phase are actually over.. and who knows what people might think about DBSK if they see them on tv and they like try doing fanservice... unsure.gif i unno.. But as for BoA, i think she will get far. She has the looks & can also dance ! ^^ I actually rather have DBSK & BoA continue to expand in Asia than for them to face any difficulties while breaking into Hollywood. Either way, i'll definately be supporting them ! ^^ LSM is a smart guy, i'm sure he knows what he's doing ! (:

I adore DBSK, but I think the States is not for them...first, they'd 101% HAVE to sing in english, other wise it'd be a big NO..i dont know any foreigner there making it big and singing in whateva language, besides english, maybe in the past but now? ...and the boy band thing....in the US it ended with nsync and bsb in my opinion, no one's even come close since then... maybe teenagers would love dbsk but definitely not older people like in asia...and dbsk feminine looks and all that..I mean I love it but I think they'd be butchered in the US....sorry...but come to EUROPE PLEASE!!!!! I'll be waiting....
dont hate me girls, just stating my opinion........
greetings from europe...

...I'm glad Lee Soo Man at least admitted that they're not ready to debut here (as in sing in English ). The thing is, they can do concerts here, it doesn't matter if they sing their Korean and Japanese hit songs, they have many fans anyway who will come see them and love them. Just don't let them sing in English please. I haven't gotten over Boa and Xiah's duet last year. They murdered Aladdin's "A Whole New World" and made fools of themseves by singing something beyond their genre. It was horrible!!!
...Wang Leehom who speaks and sings in English being born and bred here, also sings Chinese songs in his concerts and nobody's complaining...after all it's the singer people go to see and listen to. BoA and DBSK have learned Japanese as second language and have gotten good at it so let them just master it. Learning Chinese would be good too, if they want to get into the Chinese market like the Korean Suju boys of SJM who are getting good at it.
... LSM should just get his talents from North America and train them if he wants to enter the American music industry because then singing and speaking English won't be a problem.

It's a wise decision. In America you can only have a marginal chance of making it IF you speak English fluently. And they don't, especially...all of them o.o".

And the whole boyband thing is so out in America...=/

i agree with the comments above. DBSK and BoA's image aren't right for the American market. I can so imagine them being bashed to death.

im also glad that their mgmt didn't decide to rush their debut in America or tried to hide the delay. Smarter to be honest with the public.

BoA is definitely not ready for America with that broke down english. I could have sworn I heard her english was on point til I heard her duet with Junsu for "A Whole's New World" & it was like "WOW" her english is HORRIBLE...so with that english breaking into America she will go back to Korea crying because she will not make it.

DBSK breaking into a America gots to be another joke...I mean LOOK AT THEM!! I so know ppl are gonna hate on me for this but I don't care I'm just speaking the truth.
DBSK has this femine look that Asia likes but in America they will be look at like lil'fags (sorry excuse the langauge but it's the truth.
I mean JJ looks like a chick at time (though Heechul looks WAY more femine then him) but it's the truth.

They will get eaten up by the American media & the americans will so laugh at them...they should just stick to Asia....don't try to hang with the big boys...

If anything if LSM wants to debut one of his artists in America I think the only ones that will actually has a slim chance will probably be The Grace girls. They all speak understandable english & they have that "it" factor about them that can take them places. too bad LSM is blinded by it...
Plus they have the vocals, the talent, the image, the sex appeal, they have it all....
I think if they break into the American market it'll be tough but I think they can do it just don't market them as a "pop" group..market them as an "r&b-pop female group"

Wow...I really do hope they will debut in America someday. And be successful on top of that!

I am a fan of both DBSK and BoA, but if both were to debut, I keep having the inkling feeling BoA might be more accepted into the American mainstream than DBSK. I am in no way trying to put them down, but this is what I merely think.

awww i really do love dbsk and boa and hopefully one day they can debut in America, but yea i actually agree with manager lee soo man, i don't think they're ready yet, they are by all means really successful and multi-talented artists, but debuting in America is a really really really big step and drastic change from the Asian industry.

although they aren't ready to debut in America yet, i believe that they could have really successful concerts here though!! the people who do listen to kpop and know who dbsk and boa are will definitely go to the concerts if they hold them in America!! I know i would!!! haha =D <3 DBSK and BOA!!!

I LOVE DBSK .. prolly more then some of you
BUT 2008 is NOT a good year for DBSK to come to the USA.
The best time for MY BOYS to come would be during fall and into the winter.

If their management has any brains they will set the boys in holiday commercials starting in November all the way though December.
MTV will do little to their success. The only way they will get "MASSIVE" media attention is to either to The good morning show on NBC or have a spot lined up on CNN news in Atlanta.
Hitting up big cities like LA, NYC and Atlanta will do LITTLE for them. I also think they should focus more around LA due to the huge Asian fan base.
If the boys are lucky they should also participate in a Disney event during the fall or even the Summer.
I see some "KOREA" commercials airing now in the USA. IF they Boys promote and USE that, they will gain a HELL of LOT of an advantage.

I dont give a horses As* about boa.

I have some ties with some very popular Hollywood bloggers and other people on the net that I can use to gain attention for DBSK.

I love these guys. They have more talent, looks, style, voices, and the moves then douche bag rain, se7en or usher all put together.

I SUPPORT DBSK .... Together we can make them BIGGER!!!!

^Yeah you're taking this way too seriously...no need to be rude.

I doubt DBSK can land anything too big as newbies in America (ie. any morning shows, magazine covers etc.).
Also the problem isn't really getting attention; it's getting US fans which is hard considering how the entertainment circle here doesn't favor idol boybands anymore and there is always the issue of racism. I hate to say this but the boys' image won't appeal much and they probably would get some serious negative feedback whether they deserve it or not.
I'd rather they not change their current image and style of music just to try to fit in here.

breaking into a new market is not an easy task. i know there are lots of fans who are from outside of Asia supporting them. America is a pretty big market. those who are already fans may support fully for their debut in America but there are still a big majority who might or might not be ready for their debut. this has to be taken into consideration.

support and acceptance is important when breaking into a new market. you can't just let them venture in and when the whole thing fell apart, you can't just say we'll wait till the time is better then we'll go in again, right? so, waiting and observing is the best thing to do right now.

if they do debut in America, it's a great thing. if they won't do so, i'm pretty sure there are some other ways to support them and show them that they have fans outside of Asia.

People who are not asian and still like korean music or dbsk is cause; in a nicer way, are interested in korean entertainment. Only people who already love dbsk think that they can dominate anywhere they go.

In reality, Americans do not like their man feminine looking or even care much about the whole boyband. Americans are stupid to for accepting the whole ghetto gangsta image but they're not going to accept a group of men that looks girly. If DBSK going to launched overseas, they are going to have to go through a whole new image change.

BoA may have a slight chance to gain popularity in America as long as her music is good enough.

i think they are ready =]. WHO CARES ABOUT THE FEMINEME. if america isnt ready for that, then that's their problem. they can make a difference. it would be nice for once to have GOOD LOOKING FEMINEM KOREAN BOYS IN THE AMERICAN MARKET!!! =] im just saying, i think they're ready. they're already ASIA WIDE FAMOUS. i think its time for america<3 if those BABO americans say they're gay cuz of the way they look, then HAVE THEM LOOK FROM WHERE THEY CAME FROM. dbsk came from a country whose culture is like that. and i am damn proud to be part of that culture...so i think DBSK needs to make a difference is all im saying. maybe they wont make it far, but atlearst they gave it a try right? atleast they got into the american market =] this isnt like se7en or rain debuting in america, cuz they would fit right in, just looking korean LOL. but dbsk is different, and i think they need something different~ hehe. well DBSK HWAITING OPPAS! <3

mmm..i think there's a lot to consider when wanting to debut in America. i think boA has the ability to so, cuz she can sing and dance, and she has the looks. but america goes through phases in the music industry, and from my observations, it's pretty rare for it to repeator comeback (unlike fashion in the US. fashion just recycyles) but the bo band phases was in the 90s..and after bsb and nsync were gone, it was no longer successful..heck even o-town tried to do it, and even though they had great vocals, it just wasnt in anymore.

and honestly, i still dunno why ppl always want to debut in america *shrugs*
