The 19th annual Golden Melody Awards (GMA) announced this year's nominations yesterday. Jay Chou (President Chou) received nominations for his work in 'On the Run' and 'Secret.' His two albums were nominated for popularity awards as well as performance awards, for a total of 6 individual nominations. Jay is really the big winner!

Last year, President Chou received 4 nominations, winning only 'Best Producer for a Single.' Yesterday, after Jay heard the news, he happily expressed, "Getting nominated for 8 categories, I haven't disappointed the hopes of my fans! The judges' taste is not bad!" He is especially happy that his first attempt at a movie OST has received recognition and approval. In addition, this year, his good partner Vincent Fang has created a record of being nominated for 'Best Lyricist' eight years in a row. Today he will be flying to Chongqing to prepare for the charity concert tomorrow.

I have to say that Jay's really grown on me this past year... been listening to a lot more of his albums (I know some people didn't like On the Run, but I actually really applaud Jay for stepping out of his comfort zone and trying new styles)... really liked the soundtrack for Secret, too! I also now find a lot of his little mannerisms cute... kind of shy and endearing. Haha. Anyways, I like how he said, "The judges have good taste!" in a joking way... it's funny.

Wow, the nominees for this year (taken from Initial E's post) seem really diverse.

Things like this make it so hard to like Jay. I mean, what a bratty, immature thing to say - it is an honor to be up for these awards, and a real achievement to get one. It wasn't the one you wanted? So what, grow up!

Well, it depends on how you look at it. For me, with the perspective of a fan, i would feel injustice for jay. If you don't like Jay,of course you would think it was arrogant for him to say so. But he has been snubbed for like,3 years running? Plus he has said before that the award he cares most about is the GMA. And for someone as hardworking as jay, you would want your work to at least be recognised.

I'm a fan myself, I'm just not a groupie. I do not think he should automatically win every prize there is or that he is nominated for - some of them he deserves, some not so much. But what's getting on my nerves here is the way he acts like he's entitled to all these awards somehow. I'm sorry, but there are tons of incredibly hardworking songwriters and artists who have yet to be recognized or who go years without nominations. He is not the only very hardworking star in the industry by a longshot. Awards are only guaranteed if you've bought off the judges.

Where do you see that he 'acts like he's entitled to all these awards somehow'? Or are you just assuming? Jay is not the 'MOST' hardworking person out there, but he certainly IS hardworking. Jay is very proud of his music, his friends said it before. If you are proud of something you did and worked hard for it, and all you got was a snub at the awards you care most about, i don't blame jay for being upset.

He has some stiff competition from Tanya Chua this year, who has already won numerous awards for her nominated works.

I wouldn't say that Jay was snubbed last year just because he didn't win more than one award. He can't win everything every time and he should realize it. If it wasn't the best work that year, it didn't win -- plain and simple. He should take in what the winner (of the awards he didn't win) did with their music, learn and improve himself. He can't expect himself to win every time and he shouldn't expect himself to win every time. If he is really proud of what he's done, he doesn't need awards to prove it.

By using the word "snubbed" you are putting down the winner and the other nominees as if they didn't deserve to win or be nominated.

hmmm, there are many sites out there that say he got 'snubbed' too. and i think its true that not many of his works were not even given a mention last year. i for one thought it was pretty funny that his song 'faraway' lost to david tao's cheesy love song 'jin tian ni yao jia gei wo'. not that im dissing david tao or anything, but i feel that song definitely wasn't one of his best works.

i feel we shouldnt dwell on the past anymore, whats done is done, the prizes have already been won. i just feel happy that jay's hard work has been recognised more this year as compared to last year, and i hope he wins more than one.

i for one support Jay all the way.....even with one or zero award, he's the ONE and ONLY artiste that I admire and respect, regardless of what comments or remarks being made of him. this is the world of freedom, ppl have the liberty to choose who they like.....I know there are uncountable die hard fans of Jay out there , and I also do know there are also many ppl who do not like Jay...it's okay...
