John Woo spent four years preparing his film [1949] however, due to finance problems, there's a chance it could be cancelled before it even gets started! Yesterday when Terence Chang appeared at the press conference in Taiwan where it was announced that Lee Wei would join Stellar Entertainment, he said in regards to [1949], "There's a chance we won't be filming it." The reason for this concerns investment decisions not being kept, causing issues to also arise concerning the copyright of the script. John Woo and Terence Chang do not wish to ignore either party and also don't want many years of work to go to waste, which is why they are very stressed right now.

Yesterday when Terence Chang accepted a long-distance phone interview he said, "I don't want the other party to treat me as if I were new to the business. On top of that, a big company in the U.S has asked John Woo to start filming in June so I want to find a solution to this problem quickly. That's why it is necessary to abandon [1949]." Has he contacted Chang Chen and Song Hye Kyo? "I'm thinking about how to tell them but no matter what, I must arrange for them to work together."

Speaking of many artists including Lee Wei who want to participate in [1949], Terence Chang said with difficulty, "This movie might not end up being filmed." When reporters continued to ask questions he said, "I really don't want to say much. Right now it's a very sensitive matter and just know that I wil make an announcement as soon as possible."

Before knowing whether [1949] will be filming, Song Hye Kyo has already done lots of preparation for the new film, such as diligently learning Mandarin. Recently, she signed a two-year contract worth a 7-figure USD amount with China's fashion label [流行前线], replacing Kelly Chen as spokesperson. Recently she was filming the advertisement in Hong Kong and spoke in Mandarin to the boss and employees, putting her Mandarin to good use.

It has been reported that around March, Song Hye Kyo will return to Hong Kong to film a CF with another spokesperson Nicholas Tse for "double the effect". Song Hye Kyo complimented Nicholas Tse continuously, "I've always been noticing his acting; he is a good actor and I wouldn't mind working on a drama with him in the future." It has been reported that Song Hye Kyo who loves spicy food, once ate spicy food causing her eyes and face to turn red. Filming had to be stopped temporarily, causing her manager to order her to "go without spice" while working so that it wouldn't affect her work.

There where rumors regarding of 1949 cancellation but John Woo had a interview and he said that it is not canceled but will delay due to copyright issue.

I hope SHK will do a project for this year.

John Woo cancels production of '1949'
Film was to star Song Hye-kyo, Chang Chen

BEIJING -- "Red Cliff" director John Woo has canceled his planned shoot of "1949," a romantic feature set in the first year of China's communist revolution, producer Terence Chang said Friday.

"It's off," Lion Rock head Chang told The Hollywood Reporter, explaining that, after 10 drafts of the script, the main investors in Taiwan had sold the same property by "Lust, Caution" scribe Wang Hui-ling to a Taiwanese TV channel.

"They sold the same script to be made into a miniseries for TV that would come out before our movie," Chang said. "This is unacceptable and we're very disappointed."

Chang said the Taiwanese investor, a company called ARTS -- run by Ling I-Jun and May Yu -- had a Taiwan government grant of NT$24 million ($725,856) to make Wang script's for TV with producer Virginia Liu.

Neither ARTS nor Liu could be contacted immediately in Taiwan.

Chang also said that China Film Group head Han Sanping -- also a backer of Woo's "1949" -- was now co-directing a movie set in the same year.

"Han's movie is totally different. It's the story of the rise of the communist party to power in China," Chang said.

China Film did not return phone calls Friday.

As recently as last week, Woo hinted at the collapse of the project at the Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong, telling THR: "I am planning for something else. I am going to make a war movie or a martial arts movie."

Meanwhile, the planned film's international sales agent, Fortissimo Films, still had the project in its catalog at the Hong Kong Filmart.

Chang said there is no script yet for either of Woo's proposed alternative projects.

On Friday, the management agency for one of the film's would-be stars, South Korean actress Song Hye-kyo, said that she had received a notice from Woo on Thursday telling her about "1949" and offering her a role in his next film.

Woo's "1949" was also to have starred Taiwan actor Chang Chen ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon").

In the recent issue (June 2009) of the license fashion magazine "W Korea," Song Hye Kyo is seen showcasing an unconventional style of short hairstyle and red lipstick.

Taking place in Miami, Song Hye Kyo progressed forward with photographing as the midsummer's heat pervaded through her body. Showing such passion as a model, she posed lying on a road at Miami National Park for several hours to get the right pose.

A production team associate said of the plan, "We wanted to cast off the existing innocent and pure image by creating an inventive and elegant atmosphere."

South Korean actress Song Hye-Kyo, who has been named "Asia's panda ambassador", visited a panda breeding center in Chengdu earlier this month.

Although the pandas had left red scratches on her skin, Song couldn't hold a grudge against the Chinese national treasure. She says she is looking forward to adopting a panda in the near future.

Pandas aside, the Korean actress is likely to strike another chord with Chinese audiences. Rumors say she is among the candidates to play Yang Yuhuan, one of the Four Beauties of ancient China, in Chinese director You Xiaogang's TV biopic of the Tang Dynasty royal consort.
