Biography
Gillian Chung was born in Hong Kong with her original Chinese birth name Chung Dik Saan (鍾狄珊).It was later changed since the character Dik (狄) was believed to be too strong.So her family gave her the new name Chung Ka Lai (鍾嘉勵).Since then, her birth certificate has always referred to that name.Her Chinese name Chung Yan Tung (鍾欣桐) is a stage name that was advised by her manager Mani Fok via consulting with fortune tellers. The name was supposed to enhance her business abilities. She was given the English name Gillian when she was in high-school.

At the age of 1, her father passed away. She initially grew up in a single parent family until her mother later remarried when Chung herself was in highschool.

Gillian Chung (born January 21, 1981) is a Hong Kong-based actress and singer. She is best known as a member of the Cantopop group Twins, alongside Charlene Choi. In 2000, one of the model agencies that Chung worked for as part-time while in HK contacted Chung about a job opportunity offered by Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG). Chung accepted the offer in 2000, became a contracted artist of EEG and underwent training before her debut. In 2001, the management company assigned her to form a singing duo, Twins, with Charlene Choi.

Chung made her film debut in U Man which was released in 2002 and has since proven her acting skills in a number of films like Beyond Our Ken which has earned her critical acclaim, being nominated as 'Best Actress' in the Gam Zhi Ging Awards. Outdoing herself in every martial arts sequence, Chung has established herself as the up and coming action star.

In the film Beyond Our Ken released in 2004, Chung played as Chan Wai Ching, a spurned girlfriend of the eponymous Ken. The film managed a box office taking of HK$3,886,355 and it has its World Premiere in Tokyo International Film Festival. In January 2006, the film 49 Days exceeded the HK$10 million mark, earning a spot in one of Hong Kong's best box office films for the year 2006.

Chung is a graduate of Kowloon True Light Middle School and attended William Angliss in Melbourne, Australia.

When I first came to work in the ET industry, well, I signed a contract, but I had no idea when I could actually become an artist officially after signing the contract. I went through some training, nearly a year of training. It was all part of waiting; during the time, I didn't exactly have much to do. Everyday was just basically learning, but at other times, it's as if I were doing nothing at all. The feeling is like I can't do anything to change that, so when I actually do receive jobs, I will try my best to grasp it. I would just hope that I will receive more chances to do more things.

The main reason of entering the ET industry for me is mainly wanting better living conditions for my family. I want them to be comfortable with themselves, so I do try my best to do my jobs properly. I am hoping that the people around me will take notice that I do give effort in the things I do, so they will give me more chances. I learn how to sing and how to dance because a person wouldn't know what kind of path he or she will be stepping onto in the future, so obviously you'd need to learn about various things. That way, when you actually come out into the light, you would be aware of what's going on. It's just a theory of how if you had no idea about anything, it's very easy for you to be eliminated.

Filming action scenes is laborious work, and it's easy to get hurt from it, but I think it's all part of your personal will. Just tell yourself that you can make it, you can pull it through. Even though you'll get hurt, just go to the doctor afterwards; it's not hard. The wounds will eventually heal. I am also able to learn many things each time I finish an action film. It may be because I used to take up running in school; while running, it's about the persistence. It's the moment of when you're near the finish line, you would start telling yourself that the finish line is coming, how you have to keep going, and just endure it for a bit more. The persistence is bound to be there. It's the same thing for an action film; as the scene is ending, just keep in mind that the action scene is almost finished, and if you're not able to complete this nicely, you'll have to do it all over again. Can you really do it all over again? I probably can't, so I will put more effort into it. I feel that the teenagers nowadays have many temptations around them. Perhaps their friends will be telling them to go hang out here and there, have fun before working, and there'll be plenty of time for work later. But for my personal view on this, I'd say there's also plenty of time for having fun afterwards; the serious matters should be dealt with first. Everyone is able to receive chances, but it just depends whether you're able to grasp them well enough or not.

BUT why are you only addressing that to Gillian's thread? i've seen many other people breaking the rules on other threads. people post like more than 3 pictures w/ img tags on Charlene's thread and it's not even thumbnails. i've also seen repost of old pictures and youtube video.. lol, alright, that makes so much sense. i swear, some mods don't even know what they're doing/talking about. i hate biased-ness.

hopefully gillian's comeback will be pretty soon. i think new music and a new movie will be awesome. i wonder what kind of image she's gonna come back w/..

maricon: Yep I remember that MV with Nic. It's Fun 2004 or something along the line! That's when I first saw Gill highlighting her hair.
jazz: Hmm one's allowed to change major anytime they want so Gill's first choice might not have been her permanent choice if she had pursued the educational path instead of the ET path. However, she had a good record for sporting and remember that she came second in one of the running competition? But she might have had something else in mind. A literature teacher sounds good to me.

Before everybody thought that Ah Sa will probably avoid answering question regarding Gillian, when the reporters finally ask about Gillian, Ah Sa answered straight forward towards the question. She said, “Gillian is going out of the incident’s shadow, she is very careful with every activities arrange by the company, we are waiting for the right opportunity for her to resurface, but, it’ll need some patience, when the opportunity arrives she’ll appears, and Twins will also be back.”

“How is Gillian’s condition as of now?” Ah Sa revealed that after, “she left temporarily, my work load has double, she must certainly help me handle some matters. You know that Hong Kong have big sale, recently, I don’t have time to buy clothes, but Gillian has help me all day long trying to sweep some goods, I would give her a call and asked her to help me buy some nice clothing.” Ah Sa said that maybe shopping is the reason why Gillian’s mood has been good lately.

maricon: yeah the 3 of them was hot and they had this sexy dance. Pink suits her the most. HOwever, black gives out this mysterious aura around her. No wonder she would put on black outfits most often. Yeah she loves Mickey Mouse. I liked it when I was a kid too. About the Sina site, I've some doubts about it.
jazz: I remember Gill once said the her mom used to move the the family to different places due to the her business. And so Gill had to change schools once in a while. I think that might be one of the reason that she didn't get close friends because she had to move everywhere. The strands of her hair looks sharp! Lol I like it. Wonder what hairstyle will Gill be putting on.

Haha LOL Gill really loves shopping so anytime her fellow artists especially Charlene needs help regarding the clothes,Gill is the person to call on haha!glad that Charlene said that Twins will be back too!!! marico: A clothing line! That's a good suggestion! But I doubt that she would have the time to manage the shop. Or she might ask her mom to be in charge of it for her. Giving the presents at midnight like Santa Clause riding on his reindeer? Ha ha that would be fun if Gill put on a white beard.
jazz: She would probably have an old friends gathering once a year! I just remember, her birthday is about 7 or 8 days before Chinese New Year, right? So after celebrating it she's most likely to make the first public appearance.

Charlene bought a purple handbag cost more than 10,000 for Gillian as a Christmas present and Gilian gave her a pair of leather gloves. Charlene also reveal that some jobs were cancelled at the last minute and suddenly she have an extra day to relax. Then she decided to but two air tickets for Gillian and herself and they went to Taiwan. Charlene said that Gillian enhoyed herself. Charlene also hope that Gillian will come back very soon and hope that this will be a very good Christams present for her.
