Koo Hye Sun not perfect to be Jan Di, 꽃보다 남자 / Kgotboda Namja Boys Before Options

Starting from episode 1 till now, I still didn’t understand what kind of Jan Di character it is. Her character look loss and weak. Uhh…I still don’t understand. BOF is super, different and fresh but Koo Hye Sun acting is very bad. I don’t like the way she look, yah she pretty but she just didn’t match with the character.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one. I hate how she says "Goo Jun Pyo" with that smushed up face and tone of voice. Okay, she has big eyes, small face, and fair skin but I honestly don't find her attractive, the actress who plays Ga Eul is way prettier and naturally cuter. KHS tries very hard to act cute but it's so forced and weird.

Her acting is horrible; she does seem lost. The way how she puckers up her lips, very annoying, and shows how weak her acting is. Good acting doesn't require that much facial movement, it's all in the eyes, but she overexaggerates her facial expressions up to an irritating point. The drama is almost over and I still haven't warmed up to her as an actress, she should stick to what she wanted to do in the first place, singing. She has a pretty nice voice but acting, she's very stiff and dry.

I have warmed up to her with each episode. I think KHS's talent shines best during the dramatic scenes. She can't do physical comedy for the life of her! It's rather painful for the most part.
But you know, i wouldn't be surprised if the people behind the show are pressuring her to act like a "manga girl".

I think it's something to do with her age that makes me cringe at her as Jan Di. I know this is a silly reason to dislike her as Jan Di, but seriously, she's already 25 and she's playing a high school girl. Every time I watch her I couldn't help but think of her as a 25-year-old instead of a teenager. I gotta say, she doesn't have the nature the female lead in the story is supposed to have. And yes, I agree that Kim So Eun seems to shine more than her (seeing how her relationship with Kim Bum is becoming the center of attention), even though Goo Hye Sun has more screen time.

idk. i like hyesun as jandi. she may not be the prettiest but jandi isn't suppose to be pretty.
also for the exaggeration. she did exaggerate in the first few ep. but she tones it down already. also its part of the manga. her crying scenes are amazing though. she's a good actress. & i think she is doing a great job so far. <3

I don't really care if she's pretty or not (since Barbie wasn't really pretty either), but her acting bothers me so much. Through her actions/the way she talks, it's like shes...a cute person being really dumb. But as the episodes goes on, she starts to get better. She still acts really dumb, but its not as bad as before.
I would have to say I like Meteor Garden's female lead the best. I felt that she really did a good job. HYD comes really close too.

actually i think she did a fair job......she pull it thru even though she did looks a little mature for the roles but honestly she looks fairly good enough and her acting make it up to the mature looking stuff........and i like her ^^

I've seen few episodes of Taiwan Meteor Garden which Barbie was in. Not comparing but analising that i prefer Hye Sun better personally. First when i watched the Korea BOF, me too thinking that Hye Sun don't really match with the character, lol, i can't say much because i haven't watch both JPN & TWN version till the end, i'm starting with Korean first though. But after watching for several episodes, i think Hye Sun is not bad. Although her age is older than the other casts, overall she did her best to overcome till the end of it. And finally, to think of it, she's actually kind of shy person. Anyway she did an excellent job as Geum Jan Di. As for Kim So Eun, lol of course she should shine, she's younger and for the first maybe she too can win as Best New Actress! I love both charms, Koo Hye Sun & Kim So Eun, i mean.

I didn't like her as Jan Di. For me, her portrayal actually ruined the Korean version for me. She seems to portray Jan Di as weak, lost without F4, no weed character at all. Which kind of made Jan Di look pathetic and not likeable. Maybe its also in the script? They didn't give Jandi good characterization. But also, i don't get much feelings or emotions from her. I don't feel sorry bcause she lost everything, i don't feel like spporting her when she wants to fight. She's just a bland character. She wasn't able to give life to Jandi. Most of the other artists completely outshone her considering that they were amateurs compared to her.

And like the others said, i absolutely hated it when she purses those lips and pouts... She makes Jandi look weaker and more pathetic.

I heard that Yoon Eun Hye was going to play Jandi, like it was on her dramawiki and everything. I don't know why they changed her. Eun Hye Shii would've been much a better choice.

Though i prefer Yoon Eun Hye better than Goo Hye Sun, but after watching BOF, i think it's not bad. At first my mum too said that YEH would do better that GHS, but after watching BOF, she said that she doesn't know that GHS is such a natural actress and she brought up her character well.

To be honest, Goo Hyesun's over-exaggerated expressions does-did annoy me a lot but I could also say that I watched the drama for her (and F4, of course)! There were times I felt like smacking her because she acted really fake, it was almost unbearable!

But for some reason I have a soft spot for her. She's just so adorable/cute it's almost hard to hate her! I mean, there were instances Jandi frustrated me but... hah, she's too adorable to be hated.

Regardless, I still don't think her acting is 'really bad'. There are times where she shines--like in the sad, emotional, crying scenes.

And I really can't imagine anyone else acting as Geum Jandi. I'm glad Yoon Eunhye didn't take the role--if it's true.

I still think Goo Hyesun has done her role justice.
I also admire her professionalism... which has nothing to do with this but I just felt like saying that. ahah

ya...i'm totaly agree with everything that you said....BOF already end and i still can't understand what kind of JanDi character...yah the producer wanna Jan Di be a warm blood but what i see is someone who don't have and attitude, bad carisma...her face mimic it seem wrong to me...and sometimes weird...make the character look bad.... yah she pretty...but not at BOF...

The thing is, out of all the main cast members, Koo Hye Sun looks exceptionally awkward as a student. I can't really see how she resembles a student. If she is acting as just a poor commoner, then that's ok. But as a student, wearing the school uniform... no... I don't think it's expedient. The F4 are all older than their characters' ages, but they diffuse the youthful student aura as high schoolers, which I fail to see from Koo Hye Sun.

Koo Hye Soon is an acquired taste, I think. But let's face it guys, she's not really the best -- might even be the worst, in my opinion. But then again after watching the series, I realized that her character has grown on me. Not really lovable and endearing, but I actually appreciated her efforts in portraying the role. Because honestly, I couldn't picture any Korean actress doing JanDi at all.

IMHO, the problem doesn't rely completely on her. BOF has the weakest chemistry among its characters out of the 3 versions. The only worth watching on that show was Ga Eul's love story. I find the korean actors/actresses fitting for the role, looks-wise...but chemistry? NO. That's the problem. And I also hated the fact that this show almost relied on appearances rather than character and plot development.

Oh, man. If people are complaining about Goo Hye Sun for her age, wouldn't Yoon Eun Hye be a worser choice? Anyway, I like marikit's choice of words - "acquired taste." Goo Hye Sun is certainly not the best characterization of Jan Di or the best actress but after awhile, you become accustomed to her. Or at the very least, I did. Yes, I despised her effort at attempting to be cute - though I have to appreciate her for trying to put in an effort in the first place - but her dramatic scenes were pretty effective. And if anything, Goo Hye Sun wasn't the worst part of Boys Over Flower - the soundtrack, the illogical storyline, the convenient cliches, Kim Hyun Joong, the lack of chemistry as marikit mentioned. So for me, Goo Hye Sun was satisfactory as Jan Di - she wasn't the best but she certainly wasn't the worst thing of the drama.

At first I also think that GHS not attractive and perfect as Jandi but after 3 to 4 episodes I found that she has her style and cute side. Her chemistry with Minho make Jun Pyo and Jandi perfect and attract me to continued watch

honestly she ruined the makino i loved. i have seen the TW and the JP and i was really upset with this Makino.
like u guys have mentioned. she is weak and constantly needs someone to save her. i understand that Makino is only a girl and the guys do rescue her in the story but Makino is still very strong., she knows how to take care of herself.
Jan Di pretty much acts tough but when it comes down to it she needs someone to save her. i hate that aboutt his Mankino.
Jandi cant even bluntly fight for Jun Pyo she just stands there and cry while the man she loves is being snatch away. thats pathetic.

KHS i do not like her.. she over acts way too much. i hate how she always screams. does she need to scream? i know your poor but come no now. her constant screaming really bothered me. shes like one of those uneducated hoodlums who yell to get attention.
she is older than all of the guys so act her age. she acts like shes 12 half the time with her constant pouting. she should be act mature not childish

they seriously should have found a better actress to potray Jan Di....she looked way too old for the role...and not cute or tough at all like she was supposed to look. There were many times i just wanted to skip parts of the drama coz i got so annoyed at scenes with her in it.

Most of the time, i found her quite annoying and her character acts quite stupidly. I didn't really warm up to her character at all as the story progressed ... either there was not much character development for her at all or she just didn't potray her character well (unlike the gals in tw and jap version)...and the way she ate food with her mouth open and stuffing all these food in... omg... it was pretty gross... the way she acted wasn't like a normal poor gal..it was like a strange poor gal (being poor doesn't mean she has to act the way she did in the drama)... and the way she always shout at Jun Pyo is just so annoying. I just dun like her facial expressions at all..the way she scrunches up her face when she's annoyed...or when she's happy and smiling...it just looks so unnatural and not cute.

and her short hairstyle was ugly... i think she might have been more likeable if she had longer straight hair like barbie had in tw meteor garden... her hair here just made her look even more old and unsuitable for this role.

I like watching the story line of her friend and the other F4 dude though, i think even her friend would have played a better Jan Di than her, her friend was quite sweet & cute.

Please people, I'm sick of hearing, KHS was supposed to be plain looking as Jandi so how can you expect her to look pretty?? Okay, so if we were to cover up Song Hye Kyo, Kim Tae Hee, So Ye Jin up in Jandi's uniforms, weird patterned clothes, and hair, they'll look plain and ugly? No, I don't think so. KHS is not pretty. Yes, she may have the "desired" big eyes, light skin, nice teeth, but no, she does not make it on the list of pretty actresses. Okay, okay, it could be subjective but then again, there is a majority rule. Anyway, not going to get into all of that but I've seen her in her previous roles, same stupid acting. It's no wonder why she never rose to fame, she sucks at acting period. I can't even tell her characters apart due to her unversatile acting. The only reason why she's more well known is because she happened to be casted into a guaranteed success like Boys Over Flowers. But besides her role as Jandi making a hype, does anyone really care? Besides her books, can anyone tell me how many CMs she's been offered? Kim So Eun who plays such a small part has really shot to stardom, she's been receiving nonstop offers so just wondering.

Back to BOF, KHS as Jandi ruined the drama for me. Uh, Yoon Eun Hye is the same age as KHS so if KHS can be Jandi, I don't see why not YEH? You know what, I prefer Sung Yuri as Jandi more. After watching Hong Gil Dong, Sung Yuri can pull off that cute, clumsy, and carefree character. She definitely broke away from her vase acting. Now, Sung Yuri looks very young for her age, very pretty too. This reminds me, everytime KHS pouted or scrunched up her face, it made her look like a granny hahaha.

I think they really dumbed down her character for BoF. Imoue Mao portrayed an innocent, independent and intelligent Makino but Gu Hye Sun's version was naive, stubborn and downright childish. One moment she claims she doesn’t need any of the F4 but a few minutes later, they get her out of yet another sticky situation. She’s weak. Her acting made me cringe as well. She is limited to only a few facial expressions-a doe eyed smile or an annoying grimace. I've never tried counting the number of time she gives that god awful grimace in the show, but it sure is A LOT. It also doesnt help that she is too old for school, makes her attempt to act as a high schooler even more desperate.
I gave up on the show after episode 17 or so...then watched the finale.

She did a fair share doing the job as GJD. Yes, her expressions maybe sometimes awkward, but she still can shine on her drama performances.
She looks cute on some parts of the drama, SOME. But mostly, she looks like a typical korean girl walking down the street. Plus, she can't look cute unless she tries hardly enough.

But I strongly disagree that she didn't do it well. Her acting skills progressed way up high if you compare it from the start of the drama up to the last few episodes.

It can't be Yoon Eun Hye. She should step out of her comfort zone as a comedy/cute female protagonist. She should really try having a heavy drama. *Oh Goong, the scene after the TV interview, the part where they fought about the divorce plan :crying * I’m rooting for it to come!!

Over-all.. she did a just performance. Neither great nor bad.

Ugh, I don't like her as Jandi either.
Like it was her that I gave up on watching it in the first place and it was only like half of the first episode too.
Though I ended up watching it way after too for SoEul, she got better as the drama went on, but I still don't like her very much.

Guys, it's not her fault and I know KHS is a good actress. I don't know why everyone are blaming her. She only acted the role, and besides instead of bashing Koo Hye Sun alone. Why don't you guys blame the writers for bad characterization? Yeah I agree with everybody here, that Jandi portrays a weak weed rather than a tough weed. We used to see from previous versions.

BOF is trying to copy the cutesy of "Hana Yori Dango" (Japanese ver.) But sadly, they failed to achieve to copy Makino's cutesy. (and Jan Di looks like "trying hard").

And for those people who thinks Yoon Eun Hye fitted the role of Jan Di. Well YEH has a Goong already.

And aside from poor performance, I think majority of the people here are teenagers. So I guess majority are into "cute girls" rather than beautiful ladies like KHS.
