How do you find out if you are allergic to something. Can blood tests tell you? I am already allergic to cats, but want to find out if there is something else causing my hay fever.

yes, blood tests. i have eczema and the doc sent me 2 do a skin prick test, in sum lab place. ther r doctor places (like the building where u go 2 c the doctor) and a lab place sumwhere nearby, well where i liv ther is, which the doctors call the lab (where they also send swabs to like if they take a swab of ur skin 2 c if bacteria is there).

at the lab u give the desk personw the piece of paper ur docter printed out like a prescription (i guess ask your docter 4 a blood test? i had 2 when i got eczema on my face 4 the 1st time)
a person takes u into a room, u put ur arms out on a giant pillow thing, palms faced up. the person writes numbers up 2 sides of 1 arm, and on the other arm too. they put different droplets of stuff on your arm. then get needles like swewing needles, and prick the place where the drops are. each needle is in a packet they open, then they throw the needle away and use another 1 so its clean. after all the pricks are done the person stretches a paper towel on ur arm 2 absorb the drops

u wait 15 mins, and spots like itchy bites come up if ur allergic 2 it. the person gets a ruler and takes measurements of the spots. i dunno if he knows what the drops were, but he just told me i was allergic to cats. the paper he writes on is sent off sumwhere (b4 the pricking i had a blood test as well which is sent off 2 b examined under a microscope i think)

i had 2 go bak 2 the doctor a week later or sumthn, and he had the results, sayn i was allergic 2 mould, dust, grass, sum other household stuff. and i wasnt allergic 2 any foods, but i ate prawn and my eczema sorta came bak just wen it was getting better.. maybe it was a coincedence.. and a dermatologist also refered me 2 get a backpatch test done 2 test chemicals. he sed there r chemicals/preservatives in food i may b allergic to. i lookd up backpatch test and lurnt that square/rectangle patches like plasters r stuck onto ur back that hav chemicals on them. i think u hav 2 keep it on and not get it wet for a week? dunno, and see if u get a reaction.

so yeah, blood test, skin prick test and back patch test r the 1's i kno of 2 test allergies

You can get tested by doctors. They will swab tiny parts of the your arm with lots of samples and then see if your skin have a reaction to it or not. Like for instance to find out if you are allergic to jam then they would swab your arm with a few types of jam and then wait a few hours to see if your skin reacts to it or not. In your case they could expose you to cats and see if it causes hay fever symptoms.

Consult your doctor and ask for a skin allergy test. The doc may refer you to the hospital for such test if it is not available in his/her surgery. You'll be able to find out if you have more than one allergy on the same day.
