SYNOPSIS OF THE STORY:
Synopsis: Shan Tsai is an indomitable girl, who fulfils her parents' dream of entering the super noble school. Initially she just wants to spend her university life peacefully. But inadvertently she gets involved in settling problems for her good friend, and infuriates Dau Ming Sz, the leader of F4, a gang of troublemakers at the university. From then on, a series of scenarios involving love, hate and passion begin to develop.

The childish Dau Ming Sz is a spoiled hedonistic scion of a wealthy family. All girls want to get close to Dau Ming Sz, except Shan Tsai. This ironically sparks off Dau Ming Sz's affection for Shan Tsai. However, out of expectation, Shan Tsai is fond of Hua Tze Lei, Dau Ming Sz's close friend. And amidst all this, Hua Tze Lei has a crush for Jing, re-kindling the innocent mutual affection they shared during childhood.

The story plot is a romance comedy around boys and girls in campus. The love and persistent personality of the poverty stricken Shan Tsai, gradually curbs the aggressive temperament of Dau Ming Sz and, in turn, helps eradicate on-campus violence.

Meteor Garden, is based on a best-selling Japanese comic book series HANA YORI DANGO.

Cast Description:

Shan Cai – an ordinary girl with a strong and kind personality. She has no siblings but two parents who are always longing to see their daughter marry a rich man. She has a few best friends, Qing He (O Ding Xing), Xiao You and Li Zhen. She is Dao Ming Si's love interest.

Dao Ming Si – the obnoxious leader of F4. He thinks that money can buy anything until he meets Shan Cai and realizes that he cannot 'buy’ Shan Cai. He used to have a fiery temper and almost killed someone in the past. However, Shan Cai is the only one who can make him control his temper.

Hua Ze Lei – the quiet one in F4. He is the kindest one out of the four and is a very good friend. His first love interest is Jing but they had no good ending. In the middle of the series, he falls for Shan Cai but remains a good friend because he knows that Dao Ming Si really loves Shan Cai.

Xi Men – the womanizer of the four. He has a new girlfriend every single week. However, when a courageous Xiao You confesses her love for him, he sort of changes for a while. But at the end, he is still the 'womanizer'.

Mei Zuo – the joker of the four. He's similar to Xi Men except that there's no female character for him. He is also a very loyal friend.

Xiao You – Shan Cai's best friend. She is bubbly, cute and a loyal friend.

In Meteor Garden, we get many images and sceans of F4 and Shan Cai...

But who is F4 really?

In today's entertainment world, it doesn't take too much to propel a wannabe into becoming a full-fledged star.

And if the success of F4, the heirs to the title of Taiwan's hottest boy band since the Little Tigers who disbanded 10 years ago, is anything to go by, all it takes is good looks, a little bit of luck, and a drama series called Meteor Garden.

Based on a popular Japanese comic, Hana Yori Dango (literally translated as Men Are Better Than Flowers), Meteor Garden was the vehicle that launched the careers of Jerry Yen (25), Vic Zhou (20), Ken Zhu (22) and American-born Vanness Wu (23), transforming them from total unknowns into pop idols who inspire mass hysteria when they so much as enter a room.

Their rise to stardom has been nothing short of meteoric. The series debated in Taiwan in April last year, and in the short space of nine months, these four guys have become household names not only in their native Taiwan, but also in Singapore, Malaysia and even Brunei.

They have been likened to Japan's boy band supremos, SMAP, and Jerry Yen, the most popular of the four, has even been compared to Takuya Kimura. Their debut album has sold over 180,000 copies in Taiwan alone and the album made it to the third spot on the local charts three days after it hit the shelves.

And you know you have made it when the media starts mudslinging. F4 have had their share of scandal and criticism - ranging from their immature, unprofessional behaviour at media events to being boring, characterless individuals.

But despite the occasional bout of bad press, F4's popularity continues to grow. The hunkiest in the group is ex-model Jerry, who also is the lead in Meteor Garden. Singaporeans would feel a keen affinity with Ken Zhu, who lived and studied here for eight years before returning to Taiwan.

Vic Zhou is the silent but cool type, and his boyish good looks and megawatt smile is enough to send hearts a-flutter. Vanness Wu hails from Los Angeles and is definitely the best singer and dancer in the group. Which isn't surprising since he used to hang out with the guys from former Taiwan’s boy-band, L.A Boyz.

The last time F4 was in town on Polling Day last year, almost every teenage girl aged 12 to 17 was out in force. They created a major disturbance in the normally sleepy neighbourhood of Bishan, where 5,000 frenzied fans queued overnight for a meet-the-fans event at Junction 8.

Close to 2,000 people turned up for another with the lads at The Heeren, which was transformed into a sea of bodies pressed together like sardines in a can.

The most amazing thing about their tremendous fan base is that it is not limited to young schoolgirls. There are serious working women in their 20s and 30s, mothers with toddlers and even grandmothers who become as giggly as fresh-faced youngsters when talking about their idols.

What is stunning about their overnight fame is that there is nothing really extraordinary about them, apart from the fact that they are all lanky (1.8 m) and good-looking. Which in this day and age, seems to be all that matters. No one seems to care that they can't carry a tune to save their lives.

Their success is based on the strength of their one hit song, Meteor Rain.

The irony about the F4 frenzy is that the boys are not really a cohesive unit. In reality, they were just four guys thrown together to act in a drama about a gang of four guys, dubbed the Flower Four (F4), who terrorised the students at their exclusive prep school.

In fact, the plan is for each member to eventually launch a solo career. Baby of the group, Vic Zhou (Zai Zai), has already done so, and his debut album, Make A Wish has been garnering brisk sales since it was released.

Here's the reason why it's not gonan b out in viet for a long time:
A Taiwanese soap opera that is a hit throughout East Asia has been banned by China as a threat to young minds.

Chinese parents had complained about "Meteor Garden," a romance set in an affluent Taiwanese high school, according to state media.

The series began airing on some Chinese television stations last month but was banned March 8 by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.

"This soap opera has made a negative effect on society, and especially misled young people," an agency spokeswoman said Tuesday.

"Meteor Garden" centers on the romance between a poor girl and a member of a gang of spoiled rich kids at an elite high school in Taipei, the Taiwanese capital. Gang members wear expensive designer clothing and pick on fellow students with impunity.

The newspaper Beijing Youth Daily complained that the series gave young viewers "unrealistic ideas about relations between people and society."

State media did not specify the Chinese complaints. But Taiwanese newspapers have said Chinese parents objected to the drama's depiction of school violence and indulgence in brand-name goods and other extravagance.

"Meteor Garden" has been an international success in East Asia, drawing large audiences in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore and Taiwan. It started airing on television stations in the eastern Chinese city of Tianjin and the central province of Hubei last month.

Tsai Chih-ping, producer of "Meteor Garden," was quoted by the Taiwan newspaper United Daily News as saying the show is about young people growing up by learning from their mistakes.

"Many youngsters have gone through the same experience. We are most surprised by the ban," she was quoted as saying.

The series is based on a Japanese comic book of the same name.

Its four lead actors since have formed a singing group called F4. When they visited the Chinese territory of Hong Kong last weekend, fans caused a stampede, with some being carried away by police.

The series still is available in China on pirated video discs.

The ban highlights the conflict between China's growing appetite for imported pop culture and the communist government's insistence on managing what its people see and hear.

Taiwan accounts for a big share of the television, music and other pop culture imported by China, despite political tensions between the two governments.

Taiwan and China split amid civil war in 1949 and have no formal relations.

But a relaxation in official barriers in recent years has led to rapidly growing trade, travel and cultural ties. Some of the most popular singers in China are from Taiwan.

Politics has intruded before into pop culture ties across the Taiwan Strait.

Taiwanese singer Chang Hui-mei was one of China's most popular performers in the late 1990s. But she was banned from the mainland after singing Taiwan's national anthem at the 2000 inauguration of President Chen Shui-bian, whom Beijing loathes.

Chang was allowed to perform again in China in mid-2001 after a year's absence.

i was really shocked on how much i really liked this drama. i didnt think i would like it much since its based on a japanese comic book. not that i hate japanese comics... in fact im a shoujo manga freak. but usually things that happens in the comic are pretty unrealistic and thats y its in comic because its better that way. but when u see it acted out onto a drama its just takes the funny part out of it. and just turns it all lame... even tho there was some "lame" scene in meteor garden... over all it was a very good drama... especially when they're new actors that did it. im very amazed at how that it was such a great hit for thier very first drama! good job!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series!!!! I have this feeling of falling in ove again everytime I watch this show again..... The kinda love that DMS has for SC is unbeatable, if only there is such a real guy in this world....

The way that lei would do everything for SC is so touching.....I still prefer Part 1 to Part 2, I love the way the quarrelled and called each other "pig head"....."if apologies works, what are police for" or "guys who have "sizes"" are famous quotes from the show!

I used to dislike Taiwanese series... cause they're always so sad.. always force you to reach for kleenex and the storyline moving very very slow....

But this series, it's very different... it's very entertaining and it's very addictive... good work, unfortunately, the producer can't keep the miracle working for MG II blush
