Interview with Sammul Chan

PART 1
His english name is sammul and not the traditional samuel. his older sister was the one that gave him his english name, and when he was eleven, and he had to fill out his i.d. he spelled it wrong. so from then on his name is sammul.

Q: are you dating anyone?
A: before yes, but not now.
Q: what type of girl do you like?
A: it doesnt really matter what type, as long as the personalities match it's ok. an ideal girl would be tall (but not taller than me), a high nose, normal long hair, skinny, "tomboy", with a straight personality kind of girl.
Q: do you understand the signals girls give?
A: i understand the signals. im a person that is very caring. i remember what people like to eat.
Q: then it would be very easy for you to get a girlfriend
A: no,. becuase it's hard to find someone that is right for you. i dont understand how some people can change from one (girlfriend) to another so quickly, i cant date so much people at once. you'll have to always make up lies to cover up lies, you dont even know what you are doing, maybe it is because i am christian , maybe you'll have 5 (girlfriends) and she'll have 8.
Q: would you care if a girl is dating you and somebody else at the same time?
A: no way! eating buffet? im very traditional, i dont believe she can love two people at once. i think you can calculate this, how much does the girl love you? how much do you love her? it's very clear. i would rather be the one going after the girl, because if i am, that means i like her a lot. this way, if i succed, it is better, even though i have to give a lot this way. if i keep being hurt by her, then that means i like her more than she likes me.
Q: have you ever been hurt?
A: there has to be, if it's not someone hurting you, then its you hurting someone la. if it's not meant to be, then it's better to say it sooner. if it takes too long both will be very hurt.

"People say that in 'survivors law' i did well as the lawyer, but i dont think it's that good, if it is really that good, then wouldnt i have to retire? for this one to be good, next one must be very good, the next one very very good."

Sammul's mom is a nurse, the family lives in the church house, and the whole family are christians, after being an actor, even the manager is a christian, from little singing christian songs sammul says " now i dont live with my family. the timetable of an actor is always changing, now i am living with my cousin (older, male), each eating differnet things, i like english food, when i lived with my family i kept eating chinese food so i got tired of it." sammul likes being independent. "i dont like people taking care of me. being an actor is hard and tiring, but not very very hard. tvb lets more people know you and make you more popular. people say actors are so busy they dont get to sleep. but at least if we dont get to sleep we get to eat. in poor countries the citizens dont get sleep and dont get to eat, isnt that worse? i am the kind where my head doesnt touch the pillow yet and will fall asleep already, i will set my alarm clock before i go to bed, but i will wake up holding the alarm clock, i havent set it yet and i have fallen asleep."

Before entering tvb, sammul entered the DJ contest, and became a DJ. since little he likes to sing and make his own decisions, sammul enjoys being a DJ, "from the beginning to end i do it myself, sometimes i do promo, it's a good feeling, it is a little like being a reporter, you have to interveiw and talk to other reporters, it is very challenging, i like challenges, without challenges you'll become lazy, in the broadcasting room, if there is suddenly something i have to do or if i need to go to the washrrom, then i broadcast a long part of the CD."

At age 21 Sammul entered tvb...
"at the beginning all the series are fighting, but being tied flying here and there is pretty fun, with chances to say a pharse with the main character, and i'll be very happy. now my position is different, there is a lot more problems and stress, before my family and everyone else really loves me, i was silly, now it's different, i have to know and handle a lot of things, it's very hard, i cant be as naive and carefree as before."
"acting, acting old is easier than acting young, when you get more complicated, changing back to simple is very hard. at the beginning, i thought about going back, entering speech contest and singing contest, i still love singing, i can sing anywhere from day til night."
"in free time i like to watch romance and sci-fi movies, the best would if i dont have to think, there is no point in using to much effort to understand the plot, should relax."
"people say big movies i may not think is good to watch, sometimes watch movies just to see one person."

Q: do you care about the way you look?
A: in this business, you have to care about the way you look, if the company gives you clothes you dont like, then i will bring an extra outfit in case.
Q: do you need to look in the mirror often?
A: yes, when putting on makeup you have to remember which is the best position, the best perspective. at first i didnt understand, i put all the worst looking, all the wrong prespectives to let people see. when i was little, i didnt understand why stars look better and better, its because you have to show people your best perspectvie, that is professional , entertainers should know that, with one bad look, you have to do a lot more to make up for it, image is very important.

PART 4
Sammul- If you are taking shots outside, the light can even take away the bags under your eyes. Light is a very mysterious thing, it can bring out the best perspectives of you, it can also bring out the worst. so far, people think im little, baby face, i think men should start to look mature at 30.
Reporter- Even though people say he has baby face, but i think that he is not at all dumb, he is very sure about what he is doing, and what he is going to do, sammul even planned on when he is going to retire.
Sammul- Planning when to retire is very important, you have to first know what your goal is. i think in a perfect way, i dont want to be old and have to be taken care of and looked after, i dont like being taken care of, the best would be to retire at 40 something, and die at 60 something.
Reporter- Scientists say your generation should live to 100.
Sammul- If to retire at 70, then where would i get the money to live? there wouldnt be anyone to take care of you.
