Jules, i don't think that he's gonna be filming any new series with TVB soon =( but i sure hope that he will! =D
liz_yam, I think he's around 34-36 years old.. =]
hacken sure has a nice voice! i luv his songs! ^__^
some news:

Having always had a great relationship with TVB, Hacken lee took part in an award presentation event as "Road Safety Ambassador" yesterday, but was met with a group of MC's who all work for Cable. He seemed a little wary and when he went on stage, he immediately introduced himself as "coming from TVB", keeping his distance from Cable. Afterwards, the press said he was being too evasive and he said: "It is better to make it clear."
When Hacken was asked whether he is a safe driver, he laughs that when he was younger he would race with other drivers and get very close to their cars. He laughs that even when he won, he was only one car space in front and it all seemed very pointless. Now he is older, his driving speed is slowing down and although he has a sports car, he just likes its looks. He also laughs that he is very cowardly, so he rarely gets speeding tickets or is stopped and is a very safe driver. He adds that Hong Kong drivers are very safe because he once saw a couple kissing whilst driving on the high speed roads in the Mainland as well as illegal racing, which is very dangerous.

He's a good guy.. shows up for a lot of charity shows and stuff.
His songs are also really good, but for some reason his voice doesn't appeal to me as much as it does to a lot of other people.
In terms of his acting, I only recall watching one series with him playing a major role, and I an't remember the name. His acting was subpar from what I can remember, but standable.

To celebrate the sixth anniversary of TVB's Mandarin channel TVB8, a music festival was held outside the Cultural Centre, featuring singers such as Hacken Lee, Christopher Wong, Shawn Yue, Emme Wong and 2R, with a blessing ceremony in the afternoon. However, even in the hot sunshine, Hacken had a bandage around his head and he explained that this was due to a head injury caused by his dog!
Hacken says he likes to play golf and he often practices on the first floor of his home. On that day, he put his club down on the stairs, but his dog knocked it over and it fell and hit him on the left hand side of his skull, leaving him bleeding and needing five stitches from the hospital. He could easily have escaped this incident because his girlfriend Emily Lo saw the club falling down and yelled out "The golf..." but her reaction was not as fast as the speed of the falling club and this freak accident could not be avoided.
Hacken says the stitches will be removed on Friday and the doctors have already been good to him as they know he is an artiste and have allowed him to receive treatment without having to shave his hair away from the affected area, but needing additional assistant from the nurses. However, Hacken is not allowed to wash his hair for a few days and he says he has not washed his hair now for three days already and he feels very uncomfortable. He would be wearing a hat for yesterday's performance. Hacken laughs that usually the dog poops everywhere and he would reprimand it, but he never thought that the pooch would reap its revenge!

[News]
Hacken Lee has been bogged down by flu lately, but he is still working despite being ill even though it is hard for him. Earlier, he still went up to Panyu for his "Left Alan Right Hacken" concert, performing with the risk of losing his voice. The doctors had given him a shot of steroids, but this made him even more tired as a side effect and whilst he was performing, he was a little weak at the knees and nauseous. After the performance, he will continue his tour in September in Shantou and can finally take some time out to rest now.
When Kelly Chen was ill, she daren't see her boyfriend in case she passed on the illness, but Hacken laughs that there is no need for him to quarantine himself from girlfriend Emily Lo because they are both ill at the same time. So who infected the other? Who can tell! As for the saying 'More wealth, less health", Hacken forces a smile and says: "I have been to see the herbalist and he says that when I have fame and fortune, I will constantly go to see him, if I am hiding at home withoout work, the I don't need to go and see him. He is so funny!"
Also, Hacken met the Miss Hong Kong contestants at yesterday's event and he feels that they have a lot of talent. As the semi-final has been cancelled this year, it will be difficult to work out who has the better performance on the night, so he predicts that there will be a few surprise wins on the night.

This year's Miss Hong Kong pageant final will be taking place this Friday (13th) and a meeting with the judges was arranged for the contestants yesterday. As well as judges Jessica Hsuan and Gigi Leung, MC Natalis Chan and guest performer Hacken Lee were also at the press event. The girls appeared in a range of dress styles, with number 8 Winnie Shum and number 14 Kayee Tsang in the sexiest numbers.
Number 17 Bonnie Cheung and number 4 Jaymee Tang have both returned from Australia to take part in the contest and there have been reports that suggest that they knew each other before the contest, but pretended not to when they met in Hong Kong. The reports also say that Bonnie has strong backing, with veteran artist Sima Yin as her nominator as well as being an active part of the local Chinese community. The two clarified the situation, explaining that they only met each other after returning to Hong Kong and did not know each other before. As for the reports of Bonnie's background in Australia, she explains that as the Chinese community is only small there, so it is easy to meet people. She takes part in many Lion's club activities to expand her experiences.
As well as performing with Hacken at the final, Gigi Leung will also be a judge for the Miss Photogenic award. She admits that there is a great pressure on her because her decision could change the future of one of the girls. After travelling with the 18 girls to Kenya, Gigi says that they have changed a lot after their intensive training, gaining in confidence and having their looks sharpened. As for her criteria for Miss Photogenic, Gigi says that of course she has to look better than everyone else on camera.
Jessica appeared at yesterday's event in a strappy dress and was very eyecatching, but she explains that this was not to outshone the girls, she was just dressing for the occasion. As a judge for the first time, Jessica will be talking to the girls more so as to get to know them a little better. With her birthday approaching soon, Jessica was asked how she would be celebratig and she says that as she is getting older now, she will not have any special celebration. She would be very happy with just a meal.
Nat appeared at last year's contest wearing his swimming trunks and was criticised by many for his actions. He brought the incident up again yesterday with an air of arrogance as he said: "Wearing my swimsuit was just playing along with the atmosphere, but anyone who does not like me or gets on the wrong side of me will have bad luck, losing their jobs or even their health! This year my wardrobe will total a six figure sum, but who knows if I will still be doing it next year?"
This year's contest will begin by selecting the top eight, who will then be interviewed by the hosts before being eliminated down to four to battle it out for the top three awards. This year's judges will be renowned movie director Johnny To, Jessica Hsuan, Internationally famous violinist Yao Jue and Dr Lee Lok Si. The Miss Photogenic judges will include Jordan Chan, Gigi Leung and Karen Mok. Earlier there were suggestions that Sam Hui might be invited as a special guest judge, but production manager Ho Lai Cheung indicated: "Sam will be involved as a leader of the judges, but we are still discussing the details."

Hacken Lee, Boyz, Charlene Choi, Teresa Carpio and Stephanie Cheng took part in the press conference for this year's Po Leung Kuk Charity Show yesterday and with mid-autumn soon approaching, they handed out mooncakes to some elderly guests at the event to celebrate the festival.
At the event, Hacken was speaking rather quietly and it was thought he had a throat problem, but he indicated that he was not ill, just saving his voice for recording in the evening by speaking less and more quietly. Hacken says that with the music awards ceremonies just three months away, this is battle time for him, so he will do his best to make his album the best. As a result, there will be a lot of unexpected surprises in his new album, the first being that he will be singing a duet with a female star that he has never worked with before to give everyone something fresh.
With his 'arch rival' for the awards Andy Hui looking in a strong position this year, making lots of appearances for TVB's grand performances, Hacken agrees, but he is still very confident and says that neither of them can relax. He likens himself to a 400m runner, who has run past the 200m mark, but there is still over 100m to go and with his album out in November, this will be his final sprint for the line. As for whether he is confident that he will take the "Most Popular Male Singer" award again, Hacken says that he is confident and would like very much to take the award and make it three years in a row.

Twins and Hacken Lee took guest roles in TVB's "Prints on Red Sands" yesterday in a scene that shows Charles Szeto going into the dance studio to look for Charmaine Lee, but finding Twins in there who begin flirting with him. When asked if they were not used to chatting up boys, Charlene says that in acting, anything can happen, whilst Gillian says that she can say anything when they are filming. As for real life, would they flirt with boys? They both say that they would flirt with Boyz. Charlene says: "When we were at school, I didn't flirt with the boys, but competed against them in everything: intelligence, grades, running. Thinking back, it was a bit stupid really." As for Gillian, she says: "In primary and secondary school, I was a prefect and would only tell them not to run or not to shout."
Hacken played the headmaster yesterday and everyone laughed that he had taken over the 'headmaster' position from his stage partner Alan Tam. He laughs: "I am just borrowing the title, I daren't do it usually." Playing a head for the first time, Hacken had a great time and sasy that since filming for "Legal Entanglement", it has been a while since he took part in a series. He would like to do it again because filming is very useful in the development of an artiste. He says: "The newcomers have a lot of help when they first emerge, but when you are filming, you cannot depend on others. when I used to make series, I did not have an assistant, so I had to make a note of my costumes and lines and even learn how to put on make-up and do my hair. Hacken indicates that the artistes from his generation had to put their own make up on and style their own hair and this way, you can save more time to rest. He adds: "Someone once asked me to film an ancient drama, but I will not do it because I once tried the costume for Sai Mun Chui Suet and Kwok Jing and even I couldn't accept myself in that image." When asked if he was worried about losing his hair after wearing the wig, he says: "Not at all, I just really can't stand the way I look and it is hard work filming ancient dramas in the heat."

The China National Day Cultural Performance to be held on 2nd October has been confirmed as being produced by TVB at a press conference yesterday. The singers taking part in the show were also present, including Hacken Lee, Gigi Leung, Boyz, Deep Ng, Jade Kwan, Yumiko Cheng and Judi Wong. Joey Yung was not present as she had another engagement, but she will be performing on the night.
Looking at the list of acts for the evening, EEG stars take a third of the acts and TVB Variety and Sports Department Manager Wong Ka Leung indicates that the stars were not decided by the Chinese government, but by TVB. They first had to apply and if they were suitable, then there were discussions. Deep was chosen for his youthfulness and Hacken, Gigi and Joey will start the rundown by singing encouraging songs. Most of the songs will not be pre-recorded, unless there is a rigorous accompanying dance routine, where the recording will be a backup. Hacken has performed for the National Day celebrations on may occasions, but he is still very nervous each time because there are a lot of very powerful people watching him below the stage. He says: "Usually the National Day is very serious, but last year I tried to coax the audience into clapping to the beat and even Tung Chee Wah (Hong Kong Chief Executive) joined in and that made made me very happy."

With the "Singers Celebrate TVB Anniversary" event abandoned for this year, Hacken Lee felt disappointed when he heard this news. He feels that this show would have been a rare occasion for all the singers to meet up and the show has traditionally been a good gauge of standards in the music industry and he would use this to check his own rankings against his peers and luckily he was continually improving. Hacken laughs that of course, he was never ranked as highly as Andy Lau.
Shirley Yeung was hosting a special show on mid-autumn and had a rare opportunity to meet her idol Jerry Yan that made her very excited. That nigh, she shook his hand and had her photo taken with him and this left her extremely satisfied. Shirley and her boyfriend were both busy on the day of the mid-autumn festival, so they could only celebrate on the next evening for 'chasing moon'.

Hacken Lee has invited this year's Miss Hong Kong winner Kate Tsui to take part in his new music video for "Flying Person" and Kate presented Hacken with her first screen kiss in the video. As Kate is this year's Miss Hong Kong, then they had to look after her image and integrity, so before filming, the director had consulted Miss Hong Kong Co-ordinator Rosa Chan to make sure she approved. However, Hacken has always had a healthy image and of course there is no problem and so Kate was allowed to give him her first screen kiss.
During the shoot, Kate was only required to give Hacken a very small peck on the cheek and it was nothing very serious at all. Hacken laughs that he understand that Miss Hong Kong have to keep their gracious image intact, so a small kiss on the cheek is enough to get the message across. The reporters laughed at him, asking if he felt a special affection being kissed by a Miss Hong Kong [Ref: Hacken's girlfriend and former Miss Hong Kong Emily Lo] and he responded by pointing and calling the reporter 'crazy' for looking at things from this angle.
In the video, Kate plays a ballet dancer who injures her leg and has to sit in a wheelchair and in one scene, Hacken has to join her in a wheelchair to show his affection for her. For Hacken, the most difficult thing was for them both to control the direction of the chair because it was very confusing and they were left rather puzzled. Hacken laughs: "With just one pair of hands, we had to hold hands and this meant we could not control the chair. Finally we had to ask the crew to help us turn the wheels and we finally managed to complete the scene." He praises Kate for giving a very professional standard in her performance.
As for giving her first screen kiss, Kate says it was just a peck on the cheek and when she was living in America, this was just a normal social gesture and in any case, Hacken's image is very positive, so she did not feel embarrassed at all whilst filming.

Hacken Lee, Leo Ku, Alex Fong (Lik San) and Shawn Yu were at a drawing event for a charity walk event that will be taking place on 7th of next month. This is the first time that Hacken and Leo have met since the earlier reports misinterpreted Hacken's words to be inflammatory towards Leo. When the two met, they seemed to be fine as they chatted away and posed for photos. When asked if he felt awkward, Leo said: "No, everyone is just a little sensitive towards the end of the year! After that incident, we did not intentionally speak to each other about it because we both understand."
Hacken reveals that he will soon be singing another theme tune for TVB: "It is a rare opportunity, but it's all up to TVB. I will tell all my friends not to watch any other channel and all three TV's in my house are all tuned into TVB." Talking of Leo roping in the help of Hacken's good friend Vivian Chow, Hacken says: "Vivian has more than just me as a friends, maybe next time I will ask Joe Ngai to help me!"

A press conference for the "2004 TVB8 Music Awards" was held yesterday and singers taking part included Hacken Lee, Andy Hui, Edmond Leung, Twins, Candy Lo, Miriam Yeung, Yumiko Cheng and Deep Ng. The four men dubbed as the 'New Four Heavenly Kings' were due to meet at yesterday's event, but Leo Ku was suffering from stomach cramps and was absent. At the conference, the nominations for each category were announced and all the stars present had a vote for their own favourite male and female singers.
Hacken's choices were Andy Lau and Joey Yung. As Hacken has not released a Mandarin album this year, he felt rather sheepish at having no songs in any of the nominations yesterday. In order to face the awards ceremonies at the end of the year, Hacken has not only delayed the release of his latest album, he has also turned down the offer of ten concerts, losing him several million dollars. Are the awards ceremonies really that important? Hacken says that concerts can be rescheduled and money can be made back, but the awards ceremonies are opportunities that cannot be missed. Since being named as one of the 'New Heavenly Kings', has Hacken's relationship with the other three male stars been affected? He says openly that there has only been improvement in their relationship, as Eason and Andy are his football partners and Leo is one of his Mah Jong buddies, so there is nothing coming between them.

Hacken Lee, Miriam Yeung, Joey Yung and Candy Lo were among the stars at a press conference for TVB's "Jade Solid Gold Top Ten Awards" and as it was also Hacken's 37th birthday yesterday, he was receiving congratulations all day. Towards the end of the event, the lights went out and MC Denise Ho brought out a birthday cake for him as the stars returned to the stage to wish him a happy birthday. Denise was made to give him a birthday kiss and Hacken was very surprised by the gesture. Maybe Andy Hui had already heard about this, so he had made his excuses for his absence, saying he was busy with other work.
Hacken indicated that he did not know about the surprise and to have so many stars celebrating with him, he said: "It proves I still have some popularity with my colleagues! (TVB are treating you well!) TVB are just reminding me that I still have to work on my birthday and I cannot be lazy! (Andy Lau hopes you will win the 'Most Popular Male Singer' for the second year?) He is my biggest threat, but I will wear white again because it seems to be lucky for me!" Hacken had been for a hotpot to celebrate his birthday the day before and had a romantic night in with her afterwards.

The "TVB8 Music Awards" ceremony was held at TVB City two nights ago, with the show's emphasis on Mandarin songs, there were singers present from both Hong Kong and Taiwan, including Andy Lau, Joey Yung, Gigi Leung, Hacken Lee, Nic Tse, Twins, Jolin Tsai, S.H.E, Zhang Zhao Han and Alan Law. Andy Lau was the big winner of the evening, taking six awards, inlcuidng the two major male singer awards: "Mainland Audience Most Popular Male Singer" and "Most Popular Male singer". The "Mainland Audience Most Popular Female Singer" award went to Joey Yung, whilst the "Most Popular Female Singer" was won by Jolin Tsai. Originally, the award for "Best Group" was to be presented to FIR, but as they were absent from the event, they were disqualified.
Hacken Lee has taken a Cantonese award for the third year running, but he felt rather awkward about it because after all this was a Mandarin Songs awards ceremony and he was only taking awards for Cantonese songs every year. In order to avoid limiting himself to only being a Cantonese singer, then he swears that he will have a Mandarin song up for an award next year.
Hacken has not released a Mandarin album now for six or seven years aand he says: "For the album that will be released at the end of the year, I had originally planned to have half Cantonese and half Mandarin songs on it, but I have been too busy and could not arrange this, so I had to postpone the Mandarin album project until next year."
There are suggestions that Hacken can try for the 'newcomer' award next year with his new Mandarin album and he laughs: "I have already won that and it is my only Mandarin song award. I remember I was in the industry for ten years before I got the chance to record a Mandarin album and at the time I won a newcomers award in Singapore with this and was presented with my award from Faye Wong, who made fun of me." Hacken jokes that when he releases his album next year, he will challenge Andy and work towards the title of "Most Popular Male Singer in Asia".

Hacken Lee recently invited Andy Lau to film a series of special interviews for TVB's "Jade Starbiz" and Andy brought along a pack of cards to read Hacken's fortune and indicated that this year's "Jade Solid Gold Most Popular Male Singer" will go to Hacken.
Andy says he is an expert fortune reader and did a reading for Hacken's luck this year to see whether he would take the JSG award for the third year running. Hacken was rather shocked by Andy's actions, but followed his instructions. Andy first dealt the cards and asked Hacken to choose, saying to him: "The cards you choose represent the steps in your life where you choose your own destiny. Take your time and choose carefully. If the card left at the bottom is the Ace of Spades, then you will definitely win the award and I will have to stand aside. Haha! If the card is not the Ace of Spades, then you have to let me win the award. Hahaha..."
After Hacken had chosen a large pile of cards, the last card remained and Andy called out: "It looks like I will have to step down now! Haha!" Then he picked up the Ace of Spades and passed it to Hacken saying: "Congratulations! It's yours!" At first Hacken dare not take it and asked Andy if this was a magic trick. Andy replied: "Keep the card. I hope that it will bring you good luck for your new album and the awards ceremonies at the end of the year." This is not magic, it is foretelling te future. Haha!"
Hacken was very touched when he heard this and immediately took the card, saying: "Master Lau, do I need to take it home and boil it up with a bowl of water and then pour it away before sticking the card over my bed?" Andy replied: "Don't throw the water away, you drink a little first, then share it with all the other singers. It is more fun when everyone gets an award!"
Hacken says that Andy has always been a good supportive friend to him, but he never thought that Andy would use this magic trick to give him encouragement. Whether or not he wins the award this year is not important, the most important thing is that he can always have a good friend like Andy. Andy adds: "Of course I will support Hacken, he deserves everything and this year's achievements together with all his experience over the years puts him at the top of the younger generation of singers. If you ask me, then I think he will win it this year. He is the only person I would feel justified losing out to. Haha!"

[Ta Kung Pao 18/01/05]
Hacken Lee will soon be hosting TVB's new gameshow "The Cruel Bell", based on the American Talent Show "Fame". Hacken says that he had earlier turned down the job because he will be heading to England in February to record the Manchester United Club anthem before heading out to America and Canada in March. However, after the sincere invitation from TVB General Manager Stephen Chan, who insisted that this show was especially made for him and even offering to adjust the filming schedules, then Hacken was rather touched and could not turn it down any more.
When reporters laughing referred to Hacken as "TVB's Godson" and therefore unable to turn down work, he says: "Luckily it is already past the beginning of the year and things are not as sensitive now. However, I do hope that the show will do well, just like 'Fame' in America." As for whether he will give contestants a hard time, Hacken syas that he will not be too nasty because he is a rather friendly pop star and will not make it difficult for the contestants. However, it is hard to speak for his co-host Joey Leung, because he is not a singer and does not have an image to keep up, so he can be the antagonist, whereas Hacken is the good guy! The contestants shouldn't be too worried because the rule is for every second that they last, they will receive $100, so if they win for several weeks on the run, then they will earn more than some professional singers!
Hacken was a judge at a singing competition two nights ago and his judging criteria is very rounded, including appearance as well as singing ability. He also says that it is not easy being a newcomer nowadays because you have to be able to sing, dance as well as know martial arts and be able to cook, so you really do have to be multiskilled. He adds that if he was to enter a contest now, he would never have made it, so is he glad he entered the contest early on? He laughs: "Yes, otherwise a very talented singer will have been buried and lost."

[Ta Kung Pao Commentary by Chui Hiu - 06/02/05]
TVB's "The Cruellest Bell" has been a hit, but this can be expected.
With the local music industry going through difficult times all the kings and queens of pop from days gone by (Andy Lau excepted) have all faded away and the new generation of pop singers are meeting many challenges, some sporting a good appearance but no talents and others revealing a less than positive side to their private lives. This makes it hard for them to find success. The shelf life of the "New Heavenly Kings" and new songs has been shortened and there is the continual threat from piracy and downloading from the internet that paints a murky picture for the future of music industry in Hong Kong.
Talent however still emerges from the masses. Karaoke has become a part of people's daily lives and after much practice, the hardened amateurs are not far off the standards of the professionals. When it comes to pitch, rhythm and pronunciation, there are plenty who are miles better than some of the young singers being promoted, so there seems to be a new breed of 'amateur professional' emerging, who are even giving performances to their audiences.
William Hung's overnight rise to fame has given the hope for these people that there is an opportunity for 'Joe Public' to find fame and this has stirred the Chinese community greatly. There may have been laughs and jeers when he first arrived in Hong Kong and was offered advertisements, movies and promotional events, but without a doubt, William has become a hero in the 'commoners' singing community.
With the release of "The Cruellest Bell", this rides on this trend and ties in nicely with the current turn in the economics of Hong Kong. With the focus on raw talent, strong will and determination and attracted by the offer of prize money and recognition, it is bound to win the support of the masses. Moreoever, the entertainment value of some of the 'weirder' contestants is fantastic, but this will be balanced by some singers with real talent, showing us the potential of our 'Crouching Tigers and Hidden Dragons'.
A suggestion for TVB would be in addition to the professional judges and singer guests on the panel, they should also invite other celebrities and academics to join the judges to balance the standards of the criticisms as well as put more weight behind the contest.

WOW!! I'm very happy to find other fan of Hacken here. I alway thought that he wouldn't appeal to the younger crowd. He's cute but not handsome like some younger one. But a great singer!! Love his work!!
Him and Alan are a great team, don't you think so??!!

I was looking forward to 2004 singers battle. Was so sad they abandon it!! *grrrrrr* >.< It would have been fun!!!

News on Hacken!

The Sun
Hacken Lee Hark Kun yesterday attended a seminar at an elementary school, his alma mater, and shared his experience with over 100 students. Did Hacken have a speech prepared? "I don't need one. I am a famous host! I was only chatting to see whether their mentality was different than mine. As a big brother I gave them lessons outside their textbooks."
Since his friends Eason Chan Yik Shun and Jacky Cheung Hok Yau have become fathers, Hacken constantly asked them about fatherhood. "I am just getting ready. I will take my time. I have to open the Greater Chinese market first."

Nahhh.... don't describe him using the word mean... maybe a little too selfish and a show-off with too much attitude, but not mean. hahahaha... but his attitude problem is getting better, compared to his attitude back then... hey, don't get me wrong... I'm a huge Hacken fan, but we have to face that fact that artists aren't perfect!
