-kun and -chan are used when then speaker is like of higher or same level as who hes talking to....tho chan can be like for a little kid or close friend------otherwise they would use san. Teen boys usually are referred with -kun by superiors (hence u see that a lot of shows with sempais and the juniors)

-san is more formal speaking esp. towards someone who is more older than you. It's like Mr. or Mrs.
-kun is more towards male that are familar w/you.
-chan is used for a little kid.

For example, if you have have an uncle, you would called him oji-san. If you have a friend named Ken, then you would called him Ken-kun. As for chan, pretend you have a little friend around the age six or so and you would called him/her, (insert name)-chan.

When Jin called Ryo-chan, it's more like a cute way.
