Living in HK, you cant live without efficient public transport. For me, the mini-van is my favourite. They drive like a bat-out-of-hell

, cheap and time conserving. Most of all, they bring a little excitement to transportation. I dont really like taking a bus as it is slow and the need to endure the endless stops along the route . No doubt taking a cab is great but one word sums it up "EXPENSIVE". For the MTR, having no traffic is a plus but the need to change trains + go from surface to underground to surface again + MTR exits not where you need them, are just some things that put me off.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks for moving this. Sorry for posting it in the wrong section.

Well, i prefer the MTR as it's fast, convenient, safe, clean. I can easily predicted the time i'll arrive at the place. (MTR trains are 99% punctual

).
I don't like mini-van. It's dangerous, the drivers are crazy. Of course it adds excitement to your trip but you can lose your life in that trip. So if i can avoid mini-bus, i'll do it for sure.
As for the big bus, I enjoy taking them when i am not in a rush. I can see buildings, people on the streets. When I take the bus, I'll go to the upper level, as I can see more people, landscape.
You've forgotten Star Ferry, Tram. To be honnest, I enjoy taking both Star Ferry, and Tram. It relaxes me, and makes me look like a tourist.

I like the Minibuses a lot, they're fast and cheap and you get a seat. But It's too bad that that I feel that only locals can se them becaues you never know or recognize the route...
I can only take one... which takes me out to Mong Kok.
THe MTR besides is the 2nd best, extremely fast and on time, but it can get expensive and the chance that you get a good seat is...
The MTR's has been much slower nowadays. i think it's because of the closed glasscreens. Each one takes 10s of seconds, so in the past where it's 1 minute per stop, it's now 1:20 or so.

Oh actually I like to take mini-vans...and 1 good news i would like to talk about the mini-buses is that from now on, some of the minibuses have been requested to install the Speed Displaying Unit That means the minibus may have no more speeding, because it will buzzes very loudly once your speed is more than 22,2 m/s (80 km/h).
I only like GMB for minibuses, because they are small, that means smaller stops and faster to get to the destinations.
But I would sorry to tell you that some of the minibus does NOT have ENGLISH description so make sure what the minibus is going to before you take it.

I like the MTR best, because it's clean and comfortable (as someone already said)... especially when I live in Tsing Yi. I don't like to go by buses at all, because it's either to hot inside or too cold. But If I really have to, I go by bus instead.

MTR is overall the best in terms of speed and environment in my opinion. But the down side is that it does not reach the suburbs where i live.
But i prefer the mini bus although not the cleanest, it's pretty fast compared to the usual buses and sometimes more convenient get off or get on as it sometimes just stops at the side of the road with no bus stop and they're cheap.

I HATE HK buses not that some of them don't have air con (which would mean i roast) but i don't like the cramped up spaces with people sweating and me smelling their armpits because i'm not tall.

Another good thing about mini buses if there are no seats no one else can get on and stand next to you and you don't have to get to close to the other person

You're too right... mf g/f cant go out with me this weekend because she got sick on the bus yesterday

. As you may know, it has been raining quite a bit lately and she never carries an umbrella. Getting soaked and chilling air-con ain't the best of combinations.

There are a lot of non air-con buses on the routes that pass my house. Because of this, I tend to wait for one that has air-con or hail a minibus. Another bad thing I have noticed about the HK bus is that leg room between seats are too small. Being a little over 6 foot, it is hard to sit down comfortably.

HK buses are really slow because of their long routes and the many stops, with many passengers. It's one of the cheapest though..
One thing I hate about buses or minivans, is that when people sit on the outer side of the bench, they don't stand up or move aside for you if there is a free seat at the window. They just turn 90' and you have to slip through.
Sometimes I really want to let a fart when that happens, in front of their face

I think the best is the train though, it is fast and it won't come late often.
and they have airconditioning. the mini-buses are very good too, but the
drivers are often very wild^_^ so I don't feel it very safe though

i once went on this crazy guys bus, and he was basically going over the speed limit the whole way from Mong Kok back to my home (about 30mins travel time) and the speed limit beeper kept on beeeeeping and beeeeping...hahah.
everyone on the bus gave him a thumbs up when they got off.

it is too expensive for the public transportation in hk. I went there last year, I thought I had spend more 700.00 dollars on transportation, terrible.

prob with mini buses is that you hav to call out for your stop..! i get so embarrased cos i stop of at the 'gung chi' - toilets.. and really hard screaming dat out.. haa.. so i try my best to sit near d driver..
I was in HK once earlier this year. HK has one of the best public transit systems that I have seen any where.
I used MTR a lot and it was very fast, efficient and clean.
I took the double deck buses a couple times and they were very crowded.
The tram on Queensway road that goes from Causeway Bay to Sheng Wan was very interesting. It reminds me of a the Cable Cars in San Francisco.
I also took taxi a lot because I did not know the bus routes very well. That got expensive compare to other modes of transportation, but I guess being unfamiliar with the area, taxi is the best way.
I also like how the Octopus Cards (bat dat tung) can be used on every type of public transit except for taxi. It is very convenient to only have to carry around that one card and also not to have to take it out of my wallet to use.
Where I live currently, there is only one bus line that comes into my town and it runs once every 1 hour on weekdays and 3 hours on Saturdays and no service on Sunday and holiday. It does not run all day either. It only runs from 600 to about 2100.

I think bus, MTR and minibus have their goodnesses, if there would be taxi in the list I will choose it. Taking taxi is expensive in HongKOng but it are using more than here in Europe, in HongKong I just wave my hand and there are taxi in front of me. but here where I like, I must to call the taxi and wait 30 untill the taxi has come.
But I voted for MTR, It's very fast, now there are Sai Tit, it's very handy too. Using MTR you can come from Kowloon to HongKong very fast. And time is money, I can't lose my any shopping time xD

My vote's on MTRs too. They're mostly punctual, and they stop near to all the important landmarks.
I have a negative perception on buses in general; my country has practically buses and mini-buses that don't come on time, nor do they operate 24 hours a day. Correct me if I'm wrong if the situation is not that way in HK!
