The suicide note and the images she posted in her cyworld is really heartbreaking. I'm really sorry that her family and friends and even her boyfriend didn't discover her depression earlier, otherwise, her death might have been prevented. I have yet to see her in the new Nonstop, but she was cute in the old one. A good actress... but she left us too early... Rest in peace...

The other korean that commited suicide was U;NEE. She died January 21, 2007. She was an actress, but I guess she was known more of as a singer.

Apperatnly U;NEE also had a depression problem and it was said that it was all the criticism about her being too sexy that made her do it.

Like Jung Da Bin she also hanged herself in her bathroom, except that it was her grandmother that found her not her boyfriend.

Truly sad, I was a fan of hers too... RIP both of you guys.

frankly speaking, i was really shocked and couldn't believe it when i heard it..

I have seen attic cat and the movie, the cool guy....

and i just couldn't imagine someone so bubbly to just take her life like dat...

even though earlier on, Lee Eun Joo & U-nee committed suicide too, but as i have not really seen their dramas/movies before, i don't feel anything at all.

But for Da bin, it's different.....she just make me feel that it is not true....

in her cyworld blog she implied it was God that finally gave her peace...I feel so sorry for her. She was misguided, I feel. She had her family and friends around her yet she must have felt so alone bc of the mean, cruel, selfish people who never leave someone successful alone and continually attack them out of pure jealousy. Korean anti fans ARE hard to deal with.. although they may be few in numbers..and the positive fans may be 10 x more in numbers.. Antis are the loudest and the most aggressively hateful.

I just can't stand Antis.. If you go to Korean forums you'll see what I mean.. They are so viscious, they are scary. And all of their comments scream "I'm crazy Jealous of you!!". It's completely obvious. Of course they flip out and deny it when you point that out- only bc it's the truth and the ONLY truth.

With two deaths in a row recently.. they should do something about those Antis. It's one thing to type your opinion on forums.. it's another to bombard the celeb and physically and/or verbally attack the celeb directly.. just bc she's "ugly" (according to the anti) but she's highly successful as an actress or singer and everyone regards her as "beautiful".. or she acted in a drama with their favorite male star that they fantasize being with in their daydreams.. or she was sexy in a dance. (3 main reasons for Antis).

If it was up to me I'd lock up all those Antis in the mental asylum hospital where they belong. and throw away the key.

Celebs like Yoon Eun Hye is scarred for life bc of what happened to her at a tender age, early teenage years (actually nonstop.. nowadays it's stronger since her popularity increased.. so more jealousy). They pose as fans.. and her being sweet and trusting she never turned them down. Then of course they visciously attack her. Hurting her seriously.. then they throw things at her.. why? she was new so no one really knew her yet.. but it was bc the agency scouted her at a very young age and when a singer from a girl group left.. the agency put YEH in the group to take the previous girl's place. I noticed these "Antis" are pretty much all FEMALE. There are very few occurances of male.. but reading further.. it seems it's the females who orchestrate it.. and the few number of males are pretty much their minions.

I have a good girlfriend who used to be a new, up and coming celeb in Korea. She was in shows like X men. She quite the industry completely and lives in America. She is also scarred for life.. She used to be such a bright, happy, secure, sharp, strong girl before getting in the Korean entertainment industry.. now she is on anti-depressant drugs. While she had some very loyal and kind fans.. Korean female Antis are truly truly evil. They just can't help torturing ALL the time.. and nothing will satisfy them.. including suicide.. They love it and are excited to trash talking once they've pushed the celeb to that point.

Just like YEH, they couldn't stand seeing my friend matched up with a hot guy in a game show similar to "X men". The thing viewers DON'T realize is that actually, ALL those games are orchestrated by the producers. The celebs are matched up prior and they recieve an outline of who they are suppose to choose and who they are suppose to not like.. etc. Of course the talking is NOT scripted bc it is reality t.v... but they recieve guidelines in their goals. Everything is in the guideline and they all try their best to follow it. In the games where they get voted or chosen "out".. its usually bc the celeb has other obligations and need to leave.. or the producers want a change.. and want fresh new celebs put in.

OMG ! I can say dat 2k7 iz a terrible year of Entertainment Industry. In Taiwan, Xu Wei Lun passed away . N now, in Korea, Jung Da Bin hanged herself. Can't believe it. It's so terrible. Wish Jung Da Bin R.I.P !

I'd like to dedicate this post to the famous korean actress, Jeong Da Bin. She starred in, 'My 19-year-old sister-in-law', 'The guy was cool', A.K.A. 'He was cool', 'Rooftop Room Cat' and many other movies.
Jeong Da Bin was found dead in her boyfriends apartment Saturday, Febuary 10, 2007. Here's more details on the accident.

Korean actress Jeong Da-bin was found dead at her boyfriend's home on Saturday, according to police.

Investigators said Jeong, 27, apparently hanged herself at her boyfriend's house in southern Seoul at around 8 a.m.

The boyfriend, who was only identified by his last name Lee, told the police that he discovered the body.

He was quoted as saying that she was found dead with a white towel around her neck.

The police suspect that Jeong committed suicide considering there was no sign that it was a murder. They are trying to determine the exact cause of her death.

Jeong, who also became a Korean pop culture star in Taiwan in 2005, acted in television dramas and movies.

If her death is confirmed to have been a suicide, it would be the latest case of a well-known Korean actress or pop star taking her own life.

On Jan. 21, a female singer Yuni committed suicide, while movie actress Lee Eun-joo killed herself in February 2005, which shocked many Koreans.

holy sh*t, i just heard about her death like seconds ago. this really sucks cuz i really loved He Was Cool, it was my first ever movie that i bought and i LOVED it, i really can't believe this. Ugh, such a huge lost! I really hate Korean fans...they can be both cruel and overwhelming, polite and selfish, rude and whatever all at the same time...Ugh...rest in Peace...

I am so pissed right now. I can't frickkin' believe that she would do this...never ever would I expect her to do something like this.

She had lots of personality and charisma in her roles on TV and in movies. In general she seemed like a happy, fun young woman making this news all the more shocking.

When anyone kills themself its a real sad situation but for someone so young with so much to live for it makes even less sense.

This is just a terrible thing and I only hope shes now free of whatever made her do this.

Jung Dabin's Company "There are a lot of reasons why its not suicide."


Jung Dabin's Company claims that JDB's death is not suicide and is requesting for reinvestigation.

The decedent's company Sedona Media held a press conference on the 11th at 3:30PM at Seoul Ahsan Hospital and clarified all of the suspicions made by the media about the sucide attempt and company problems. They also said "The decedent's death is not a suicide."

Sedona Media's Director Park Hyun said "There was no reason why the decedent would have committed suicide. All of the problems was getting solved and there is no reason why she would have committed suicide. She made appointments to meet her friends and she had plans to go on a trip with Jung SunHee and other celebs."

Director Park claims that evidence that it is not a suicide is, 1. The fact that she tried to committ suicide last September is a lie and was proved by her family and acquaintances, 2. Jung Dabin wasn't drunk on the day of the accident, 3. There was 2 months left until her former manager gets sued, 4. The problems with her former company has been solved, 5. she made appointments with many acquaintances.

Regarding her boyfriend's statement "She tried to committ suicide 5 months ago" Sedona Media said "As it was revealed at the Police Station, the boyfriend lied. The decedent got the wound on her wrist when she was in her 1st year of highschool."

"The decedent wasn't drunk at the time of the accident."

Director Park Hyun said "The decedent wasn't very drunk on the day of the accident."

Director Park said "There are no traces that the decedent drank alcohol at her boyfriend's house. The day before the accident Jung Dabin with 4 people including her boyfriend shared 6 bottles of Soju and beer. Jung Dabin paid the bill and there was an employee's statement that she wasn't very drunk."

"She made appointments with acquaintances and showed desire in new pieces."

The decedent's company says Jung Dabin made hospital appointments with close acquaintances and promised to go on a trip so there is no reason why she committed suicide.

Director Park Hyun said "The day before the accident at 11PM she called a close unnie. On the 12th she made an appointment to go to a dermatologist and showed desire in picking her next work."

Also "She was planning to go on a trip with Jung Sunhee. She made appointments to meet with the people she drank with again 2 days later."

"She showed disappointment towards Unee's suicide...the note on her Mini Hompy is not a suicide note."

Director Park Hyun said "Regarding Unee's suicide Jung Dabin talked about how suicide was bad with her cordinator and her boyfriend. She said 'I will never committ suicide and live my life.' and expressed her disappointment."

They revealed the post she put up the day before she died wasn't a suicide note.

Director Park said "After Jung Dabin died and people saw her post it became an suicide note. I wonder if Jung Dabin didn't die, would it have been considered a suicide note. That post is not a note that hinted of her suicide."

"The problems with her former company, it was almost solved."

Sedona Media claimed the problems with her former company was almost solved.

Director Park said "There was 2 months left until her former manager was going to be sued, the lawsuits with her former company one was decided as immaterial and the other one was decided as compensation. Everything was getting solved smoothly."

"To an actor 1 year and 6 months isn't a long time. Jung Dabin's next work was decided already so there is no reason why she would have committed suicide."

Besides this her company said she loved her family a lot, her next work was decided and she was in the middle of picking other pieces too.

"Just because there is no evidence of murder we can't be sure its suicide. The murder can be disguised as suicide and if Jung Dabin did committ suicide she probrably had a reason why had to do it."

That's a article that just came out...but personally when I found out that she had passed away and I read the other articles I was a little suspicious because she "committed suicide" at her boyfriend's house...but if someone was going to committ suicide (according to psychology) they usually do it in a place where no one will interrupt or find them. And how is it possible to strangle yourself with a towel? that I really don't get O.o

i agree with you this is very suspicious coz much more if you try to kill yourself while being drunk you cann't hang yourself maybe drink some pills or cut yourself and if you have a loving bf why would you kill yourself.!!

Thank you for this...because I know that JDB will have never have ever done something like this. She wasn't the type to commit suicide...I followed her career since Attic Cat and everyone all her co-workers said that she has a funny, lively, personality so someone who is like that why would they do something like this?

I had a feeling something was off...I swear that boifriend better not have done this...OMFG...something is definitely off.

Autopsy Confirms Actress' Suicide

The death of actress Jeong Da-bin has been ruled as a suicide, the National Institute of Scientific Investigation said Monday after conducting an autopsy.

The initial autopsy results dismissed suspicions held by Jeong's family that she had been murdered.

"It is a typical death caused by hanging from the neck. Also, there seems no possibility for somebody to disguise the manner of her death," said Seo Joong-suk, a forensic expert who oversaw the autopsy.

"Although we will announce the final result of a more detailed examination in two weeks, we cannot see any possibility that she was murdered," he added.

The institute will check the body's alcohol and drug contents by tissue tests. The family of the deceased including her father and medical experts participated in the autopsy as witnesses.

Seo said there were two scars: a new one and an old one. He said the new scar was less than six months old.

While Jeong's boyfriend Lee Kang-hee told the police she tried to kill herself last year pointing out scars on her wrist, Jeong's family and agency denied Lee's statement, saying that the scars were there when she was in high school.

"The autopsy took longer than normal as the pathologists proceeded only after they reached full agreement on the next steps," a source from the institute said, explaining the care taken in conducting the autopsy.

The autopsy was requested by Jeong's family and agency as they urged police to change the direction of the investigation from suicide and look at other possible causes.

Because of the autopsy, her cremation was delayed one day. She will be cremated Tuesday, her agency said.

Celebrity suicides spark copy-cat fears

Back in 2003 and 2004, Korean society was rattled by the jumping deaths of high profile personalities.

Starting with Hyundai Asan chairman Chung Mong-hun - who leapt to his death from his office while under investigation for illegal cash payments to North Korea - many prominent social figures including former South Jeolla Province governor Park Tae-young and former president of Daewoo Construction and Engineering, Nam Sang-kook, chose to end their lives by jumping from buildings.

The effect lived on for months with many citizens committing suicide by jumping off bridges and apartment buildings. To prevent further deaths, the government had to build safety walls on bridges and order guards to close doors leading to apartment rooftops.

Another wave of copycat suicides is feared this year, following the deaths of two popular TV celebrities who hanged themselves.

Actress Jeong Da-bin became the latest high-profile suicide among celebrities over the weekend, found hanged in her boyfriend's house. Female singer Yuni had also hanged herself to death just a month earlier on Jan. 21.

Just days after the suicides of Yuni and Jeong, three citizens died by hanging themselves, showing that the fearful effect had already began.

Yesterday, a college student died by hanging himself with a necktie at his home in Seoul and a high school student in Busan died in her classroom by hanging herself with a curtain.

On Jan. 22, an elementary school student hung himself leaving a note that he couldn't stand his parents stopping him from watching TV.

Experts fear more copycat suicides for Korea which is already dealing with the highest suicide rate among the member nations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

In 2005, 24.7 in every 100,000 Koreans had committed suicide, the rate doubling during the last decade.

"The 20-somethings and teenagers are most vulnerable to celebrity suicide," said Lee Mi-young of the Korea Institute for Youth Development. "It is not only depressed people who are affected by celebrity suicides either. The heated media atmosphere is making many youngsters glorify suicide and believe that one has the 'right' to commit suicide."

When actress Lee Eun-joo hung herself out of depression in 2005, the number of suicidal cases more than doubled in less than a month.

During the month, 2.1 people a day committed suicide, a sharp rise from 0.8 people before the death of Lee. The number of suicides committed by 20-somethings in particular had increased remarkably.

In a survey conducted by the Korean Institute of Health and Social Affairs in 2005, 83 percent of the 1,503 men and women who participated said that the celebrity suicides had some influence on ordinary people who were considering suicide. Over 60 percent said that they had experienced an impulse to commit suicide after reports of Lee's death.

"There is a need for society to not only to pay attention to depressed and sad people, but observe the meaning of suicide from an objective view," said vice-pastor Kim Jae-kyu of Chamsarang Church in Seoul. "Committing suicide is a sin not only because it ends a life but because it leaves an unbearable wound to the hearts of remaining families and friends."

In the 18th century, many young men in Europe killed themselves with a gun after reading the novel "The Sorrows of Young Werther,"' written by German poet Goethe.

Romanticizing the story of a young man who kills himself with a gun after being rejected by his lover, these men were led to a belief that lonesome and sorrowful lives had to be ended.

American sociologist David Phillips later named the trend the "Werther effect."

Today, it is not fictional characters but celebrities and prominent social figures that lead the effect. However "romantic" it may seem, taking one's own life should never be justified - and the society and the media appear to have the biggest role in keeping to the facts.

I was really sad and angry at the same time reading this. I knew before that Korea has one of the highest suicide rate, but I just can't understand why there's such a trend in Korea. Are Korean ppl easily impressionable and vulnerable? Are most of them under some sort of depression? If so, sth must be wrong with their culture. And that's really sad coz I love the Korean culture and the ppl.
I wish celebrities would give it a second thought before committing suicide. Not only are they hurting their family, friends and fans, but they are giving a reason for ppl to justify suicide when the least bit of trouble stirs up.

I'm so shocked 'bout this news! It was reported here in the phils. oh my! she's not my fav. actress but I never disliked her! I find her talented....oh my! I still can't believe it! Well RIP Jung Da Bin....I'll pray for her!

i can't believe jung da bin died.. and she committed suicide... she seems such a jolly person... i guess behind all the glitter and fame, she's really sad..

i didn't read korean so i didn't know why but now when you all said suicide...i can't believe it...

i love her so much in He Was Cool...and Attic Cat...

and she is so young at the age of 27 too...

I was shocked when i read this on soompi!!! I was going to watch Attic Cat next and That Guy Was Cool! Condolences to her family and friends....may she rest in peace!

im just about to watch He was Cool because a friend highly recommended this to me..I've watched attic cat and she was nice there.
it was so sad to know that her life ended like this. i hope before she tried doing this things, she atleast tried her best to solve whatever problem she has.
the solution she had taken is not the best solution after all..

crap i didn't even know she was the actress for "he was cool" and that was one of my favorite k-movies! man...i guess outside you can be forced to smile for the camera, but inside your crying inside...i really hope that she found her peace even though it wasn't the right way to go. she is a gorgeious woman who had so much comming to her.
