I totally agree with u. I used to like Gigi but not anymore. I even make flowers for her. I think many of Ekin and Gigi fans feel cheated at that time. They even deny their relationship at first. I was really disappointed with her lies!

Ekin Cheng
Ekin Cheng Yi-Kin is one of the most popular stars in Hong Kong today, much to the chagrin of many Western fans of Hong Kong movies, who always seem to ask the question "why is Ekin in so many movies?" The answer is simple -- Ekin sells. With a two-pronged attack consisting of film roles and popular songs (often mixing the two), Cheng quickly rose to "idol" status and seems poised to stay there for a while.

Cheng was born on October 4, 1967 in Hong Kong. During high school, his good looks got him work doing commericals. After graduating, Cheng competed in a singing contest which he lost. However, one of the judges saw some talent in him and suggested TVB, the Shaw Bros. studio's television network. Cheng then enrolled in TVB's martial arts school, but found that he didn't have much talent in that area (something which would become apparent in later years), and so switched to a general acting school, where he found more success. After graduating, Cheng found work on several TVB shows, including Space Shuttle 430, a children's program that also gave Stephen Chow and Tony Leung Chiu-Wai their start in the entertainment industry.

Cheng worked at TVB for a few years until he made his first movie, Girls Without Tomorrow, in 1992. Several more romantic comedies followed, and Cheng already had seemed to be pigeonholed as a sort of "loveable loser." But in 1996, Cheng starred in Young and Dangerous, a gangster movie that became a phenomenon (spawning several sequels and spin-offs, as well as a number of knock-offs) and cemented Cheng as a movie star. The role also allowed Cheng to expand his choice of roles. Aided by computer effects, he became an action star with films like 1998's Storm Riders and Hot War. Cheng also continued to make romantic comedies, such as Help!!! (2000). All the while, Cheng cranked out a string of Cantopop hits (often doing the soundtracks for his own movies) which continued to make his star rise.

With a rise to fame in Hong Kong, there is always a degree of pressure imposed by the rabid press, and Cheng was no exception. The tabloids tried to tear apart every part of his life, and his die-hard fans were only too happy to eat any little bit of gossip up. Much to their disappointment, though, there has been only one major "scandal" revolving around Cheng has been when he broke up with Maggie Sui to start dating Gigi Leung. In typically polite fashion, Ekin only said that "I'm just an ordinary guy who had fallen out of love and who simply wanted to carry on with my life."

And that kind of thing may be why he presents such a paradox to Western fans of Hong Kong movies. Cheng is known to be a nice guy who is dedicated to his work, but the results onscreen never quite match the effort he puts in. He is known for his expression -- or lack thereof -- which only seems to be getting worse with age. Even his teenybopper fans seems to be turning on him a bit. There have been rumors that Cheng is using hair dyes and wrinkle creme to cover his age and his relationship with Lai is strained. However, to his credit, Cheng has not taken these rumors seriously and is still trying to expand his acting range. He recently took a role as a villain in prestigous director Johnnie To's Running Out of Time 2 -- quite a big deal for someone that always plays the hero.

For good or bad, Ekin seems to be here to stay -- probably the best thing to do is just get used to it.

A couple of notes about Cheng's myriad of names:

Ekin: this is an anglication of Cheng's Chinese name Yi-Kin
Noodle: Yi-Kin sounds like a type of Chinese noodle
Dior: Cheng is the second son ("yi gor" in Cantonese) in his family. When his little sister would try to say this, it came out as "dior". There is a rumor that this name was actually suggested by Cheng's hairdresser.

Hrm... I guess couples who are celebrity does have a harder time dealing with relationship since everything is being criticized by their fans. The way I see it is, him and gigi are still unmarried they still have options and the opportunity to choose whom they wanna be with.

The recent big noise over the rumors of Ekin and Gigi's break up have been further fueled by Ekin's sudden withdrawal from last night's TVB singer celebration. However, yesterday Ekin agreed to a long distance telephone call interview.

Reporter: Have you and Gigi broken up?

Ekin: Already, Have not ! From the beginning to the end I have answered this a lot of times. Do I have to answer until the audience all feel vexed? All have written once about this.

Reporter: But doesn't your resignation from the TVB line up appear as a confession that there is no communication between the two of you?

Ekin: AI! At that time I have the weekly newspaper secret pictures to deal with, I explain that then the idea that it has a high degree of resembling a breakup, but that it is not. So now you ask again. I have always said it is nothing, then it is nothing. My resignation of the performance has nothing to do with this. Gigi knows this. however, not everyone can explain, if try to explain from incomplete knowledge then will run into trouble. When I give an answer, everyone shows understanding, and question is over, then I am again asked, apparently to answer is useless, as it appears the point of view is not the same.

Reporter: Now can you answer to that people are not caused to misunderstand?

Ekin: If you know the answer, 5 years ago this is big thing, then is my girlfriend have a high degree of familiarity. I didn't know the answer, but after looking at it realized that I recognized it many years earlier.

Reporter: Aren't the emotional ups and downs so great as to cause doubt?

Ekin: When I see the magazine writing, I already not happy, I agree the pressure on actors is great, the market isn't good, we all hope for publicity to promote our achievements, but press always want replies to personal questions, I feel answered, but still appear, it should not be that the appearance of the press should be detested.

Reporter: You and Gigi have been partners for 6 years, your feelings have not paled?

Ekin: Have not, the consensus of my feelings are all of a favorable nature. I have an optimistic point of view, but this gives many tests to it.

Reporter: Does that fact that many follow this with interest give you pressure, but also benefit.

Ekin: In fact I am already accustomed to outside interest. Almost every year on my birthday there are questions at least once.

Reporter: Today have you communicated with Gigi by telephone?

Ekin: I have, but today is the TVB variety lineup.

Reporter: Is Gigi still your targeted marriage partner?

Ekin: We get along together very well, no problems. A wedding we will gradually plan, because now is the time to work on careers. I understand things are a little vague, but understand my situation.

Ekin's manager Lam Shan Shan also indicated that this incident was nothing and Gigi was also somewhat embarrassed. Shan Shan also felt regret that the press had not shown understanding for Ekin. She once again pointed out that Ekin and Gigi will continue to keep their public and private lives distinct. To make a long story short their feelings haven't changed. Shan Shan described the situation like housework, inconvenient to talk about.

Yesterday Ekin Cheng, Linda Chung, Shirley Yeung, and others were promoting for series 'Always Ready'. They played some 'emergency help' games on stage. Male lead Ekin was actually late for the function and told Shirley to practice CPR with her boyfriend. But Ekin was 'played' by the hosts too. They told him to demonstrate it first with rumored girlfriend Linda Chung. It made both of them really embarassed and Ekin immediately changed the topic.

After being played by the hosts, he denied being embarassed, "It's just for fun so I just told them to do CPR. I don't mind being played." As with being late for an hour, Ekin expressed that he had to do a media visit in Japan and had already told the manager that morning. Talking about Always Ready, he said, "After watching it alot of friends praised that the production of the series was serious and feels very close seeing me on TV. But I predict that the ratings won't be as good, but just filmed this series to satisfy myself. (Did girlfriend Gigi Leung support and watch?) Yes she did support."

As with Linda, she is very nervous about the ratings. She also said that if the ratings were 45 points, then she'll wear a bikini for celebration. Ekin immediately said, "The 'beauty contests' are over, why don't I just pay for dinner or host a Christmas party!"

I always feel that Ekin is a really cool guy, and I've watched him since I was a kid (he used to be in a kid's program way back in the 80s). Also we share the same last name.

BMA is about to start new movies. Ruan Shi Sheng and Peng Huo Xiang will direct 3 separate movies. Ekin and Nikki will both have parts in the movies. Ekin and Nikki both attended a BMA press conference and banquet. When Ekin was asked about the movies he joked that he was just there for the food. He did divulge that besides the movies, the company has arranged for each BMA artist to have a web site and also to have the opportunity to produce a book. Ekin said that a major focus of his book would be to talk about the ideas and responsibility of Crisis, among this he would also discuss his life. Reporters wanted to know whether he would discuss his career and feelings. Ekin didn't directly reply he only directed them to watch "Set Out World" and then they would know. He said that now he couldn't even remember what he had said at that time.

This year Ekin is planning to compile his own direct himself in a movie. He said the plot would revolve around cartoon characters. He honestly said that he hoped that step by step he could realize this desire, however he didn't have enough money to make a movie so it is unlikely that he could use his own resources.

Reporters asked him if he was really gifted to be able to produce a book and a movie. Ekin laughed and said " No, he just wanted to be able to accomplish his goals. Reporters pressed him on what goals. He said that many of his goals were big and so hard to achieve. He talked of his desire to be a representative for the Sai Kung area. His goal would be to try to improve the area's environment. Reporters asked if he wanted to be in politics. Ekin smiled and said it was very hard to explain, and he still hadn't looked into it.

Nikki was asked about her thoughts now Ekin was once again single. Had she considered? Nikki immediately said she hadn't and wouldn't dare.

Ekin and new mainland actress 霍思燕 were in Central filming, producer Fang Ping's new movie, in the early hours of yesterday morning. 霍思燕 was also in "I want to be Famous" with Ekin and 劉青雲. In this movie 霍思燕 plays a blind woman. In the scene Ekin delivered 霍思燕 to the doorway of her building. The two look at each other in love in this scene. 霍思燕 holds Ekin's hand and gives him a bracelet. Ekin looks at her sweetly.

Suddenly his cell phone rang, Ekin then quickly left. At the scene the producer, however did not stop taking pictures. Ekin is a canon camera spokes person, naturally he wants to provide his professional opinion.

Ekin talked about the scene. He said, "in the scene I just returned from a business trip and met my massage therapist, so I walked her home. I will have love affairs with her in this movie. Filming has only been begun for one or two days, so the business trip scene will be later.
