Trinie got it right. Kang Yong was mostly emphasizing the "feel" that Jacky gives off when he sings.

Is it just me though, but has Jacky's English gotten worse? Or was he purposely singing with a Chinese accent? Cause I know his English is MUCH better than that... but for some reason, while he was singing, he had a distinct Chinese accent that was very irritating. *sobs* Jacky...! It's okay! No need to fake it!

Cute moment though, when the first "Christ the Savior is born" came around, I think he wanted to say "Jesus," and caught himself so it came out, "Je-ist the Savior is born," because the second "Christ the Savior is born" came out correctly. Cute cute cute!

I agree with Trinie, though... the show was two years ago, so his Chinese wasn't nearly as good... there were a couple of things, though, that I don't know why he didn't get... like the "Oh boy!" one.

nanshi, I've noticed, too, that Jacky's English pronunciation isn't as great in songs any more! I don't know if he's doing it on purpose... it was actually in "Tian Mi Yue Ding" or something... when he speaks English, it's really good... but he could just be picking up on the wrong way to sing in English. Coco Lee, for example, has much worse English now than she did when she debuted, and she's a solo singer, without other people to influence the way she enunciates or sings.

Oh... I don't remember who was asking about this on the previous page... but Jacky took several cooking classes while he was in college and made dumplings and other traditional and simple Chinese dishes for club activities. He always says that he's not a good cook (as in creative... can make up dishes by himself), but that he can make nearly anything from a recipe.

About Jacky's bad english accent, I don't think he's putting it on. In the song 'Feeling so right' from his solo album there's a lengthy spoken english part and he sounds totally Canadian, because he hadn't been in Taiwan for long. But after 5+ years of being surrounded by limited english speakers with chinese accents, he's absorbed it. Even when I'm overseas just for a month, I'll come home and my friends will say my accent has gone weird! I reckon if Jacky went back to Canada for a few weeks or more his original accent would come flooding back. But really, it's not that important -- Jacky is Jacky, as far as I'm concerned!

lol. I listened to that song and yeah, Jacky did have an accent with a few words. Though, mostly, it wasn't bad. I think its not because he was influenced by others from living in Taiwan so long. . .it's just some words are harder to pronounce depending on your native tongue. I, personally, have lived in the states all my life and mainly speak English. . .but occasionally will catch myself with an accent on certain words, because for some strange reason I just can pronounce the 'arn thing like the rest of 'em. XD Anywho, I'm glad to hear that Jacky is doing better and going out again (this info was from 183 thread) but I'm sure everyone here got that news he was seen out just recently. ^^ Hopefully it means that he has fully recovered from the surgery.

Sorry for off-topic but for the "Not Brave Enough" song, I sorta guess that the strong voice is Jame's too since Jacky's voice is very deep so I thought his bro should be somewhat similar. James got a solo in the "I Like Rock & Roll" CD or something like that (forgot exact title) - the mv is on youtube somewhere.

Back to Jacky - yes, definitely like him the best in 183 Club although it started out w/ me liking MD since his role in Heaven's Wedding Gown and also 'cause I was too obsessed w/ Leon & Cyndi to care about Jacky's role in there but when I go back to re-watch his scenes, I thought he's very cool. I swear not all guys can have the "gangster leader" vibe like him since I was watching Smiling Pasta and that one dude who was attacking Rita (Xiao Qiao's character in SP) and how He Qun (Nicholas Teo's character) almost got punch out by that one gangster wannabe dude but he stopped when he almost his HQ's face since HQ wasn't scared or try to dodge. That scene reminds me of the part where Aaron (Leon's character in HWG) goes to find Ying (Jacky's character in HWG) and pays off the debt for Ai Qing's bro and how Aaron warns Jacky to not touch Ai Qing, etc. The next part where Ying gives a swing at Aaron's face but stopped in the end - inches away from Aaron's face (exactly - that's why when I watch the other series it reminds me of this particular scene), that was totally awesome. I mean he has the "vibe" to look cool, not ghetto. Anyways, talking about that - his character as Ying isn't that bad comparing to the antagonist in many other series since if people actually pays off their debt or it gets taken care of, he leaves them alone - it's not like he kept pestering around for more money like others. And besides - kinda mean - but I totally favor him for beating half of the people up in HWG 'cause seriously they're pissing me off - especially Ba Wang and the rest of the bicycle riders who kept getting Cheng Hai Nuo (Ming Dao's character) in trouble.

And about his character in AQMFS, like some of you, I like his role despite the part where he's a player. I mean like he's just so funny and somewhat dumb at times when he's with the guys - Ya Si and Richie.

And yes, I know with what you mean w/ translating is hard work -> and some articles are so long too. I thought those stuffs are easy but I tried sitting down and translate from my language back to Eng or vice versa and it takes longer since some words really don't fit the description or give the right feeling that could mislead things further. So making sure that there's enough Jacky fans before you start is a good idea.

Glad that you know what I mean when I said that translating is hard work. I don't just do articles, I also do books too and articles are nothing compared to those. I am in the middle of doing Ming Dao's book. Each chapter is really long too... When you said your language, which language are you referring to? Do you mean CHinese or some other language? I try my best when it comes to translating. For example, there are a lot of things that I can translate easily from Chinese to VIet and vice versa, but it is much harder when it comes to English. But there even with CHinese and Viet, there are also lots of things that there are no direct translations. SInce it is so hard, I want to make sure Jacky fans really want to read or else I won't do it. I already have a lot of other translations for Ming Dao, Yu Rong and other 183 members and other stars to do too...But can't do it now due to school... I must wait until summer time.

Benny's character is funny though. Jacky doesn't appear until later - which I sorta sneak around to see where he appears but pretty early in the series. I like his hair in here. Glad that the Viet-dubbed version of his voice is good since it sounds really cute on him and sort of fitting his character. Will update later. (I know I said that I want to wait until later to watch Hi-Fly but can't wait anymore! LOL! The suspense is killing me! LOL!)

You haven't heard about that yet? I have heard it for a long time already, but they have not gotten to it yet... I hope that Johnny, Jacky and YU Rong will get some leading roles so that more people can notice them. I like Ming Dao and Sam a lot too, but I want the rest of the 183 members to get some credit too.

Oh, so you were referring to Viet. I know both Viet and Chinese(sorry not trying to brag)so when I am doing translations, I can easily translate a lot of things into Chinese to Viet, but doing it in English is so hard...But I still manage to do it...

I am not really interested in modern series so am waiting for some ancient series, but because of 183 that is why I like some modern series now. I can't wait to see him in an ancient one. Back to Jacky - yes, I heard his voice before and it sounds really nice. I actually watched the whole AQMFS series in Chinese since there were subtitles. It's really nice watching it that way since everyone's voice really suit for that series. Speaking of that the Viet-dubbing team was really killing that series when I was watching it in Viet too since other ppl in my family prefers to listen in Viet instead of reading subtitles. Only Jacky's voice sounds somewhat like his real voice for that series but his voice still sounds better - of course.

Okay, a bit of updating on Hi-Fly - watching like it and thought that it's pretty decent so far. Sorta funny and light, nothing super serious happen yet. But Jacky's so funny and cute in there. His character is kind of honest and you can say somewhat dumb, lol. Not super dumb but like he's clueless sometimes and that's just cute. And I can't believe hope the "gossip" stuffs could spread so fast after he told someone about this one thing. Nothing's a secret in the airport area? LOL! But anyways, after watching some parts of this - I have to say Jacky's acting is pretty good actually 'cause in this one he's sorta nerdy but in a goofy way and in Heaven's Wedding Gown - he was really tough and have this cunning expression. Ok, don't want to spoil too much about his role in here in case anyone else want to watch it on their own. But will update later. Just want to say one last thing that his character still doesn't appear much but I think will appear more later since his romance story doesn't really develop yet. They just sorta introduced his character a bit.

It is great that you saw AQMFS in Chinese. I have a version with English subtitles but I don't need them, so I always turn them off since they are not even correct all the time. You can also hear Jacky's real voice on the shows on Youtube.

Yea, Johnny already got a leading role in MVP. It doesn't hurt to have another one, but I hope that Jacky and YU Rong will have a leading role in their next series together.

Plus, you're 1000 times (at least) more dedicated than I am... since I am so picky with my English translations, and my Mandarin reading is only so-so, it takes me a long time... and sometimes I get bored rather easily. :x It's amazing that you're translating Ming Dao's book! And amazing that you're fluent in three languages

Anyway, glad to see some new users in the thread... DTLCT, not sure if the strong voice you're referring to in VJ's "Not Brave Enough" is the lower one or the higher one... James' voice is the higher one. It was easy to pick out because he sings the long English segment, Anyway, I must say that I was surprised that James was Jacky's brother based on that song... because James' voice is so much higher. It somehow almost doesn't fit with his face and body.

Also, as a side note... Johnny Yan XingShu was the male lead in MVP Qing Ren, but he's been the second male lead in at least two other dramas... Snow Angel and The Champion, both opposite Toro. I do like him (although more as a person than as an actor :x), so I'm not saying that he shouldn't get a big role or anything, but it really IS Jacky's turn to shine. I'd love to see him play a non-jerk type soon... he'd make a great "lovable bad boy," a la Jerry Yan or Mike He, don't you think?

I didn't watch it w/ that subtitle, it was more like I was watching an Online version of it by this one subbing team. Their work was awesome so it was pretty accurate.

And yea, I haven't watch Johnny as lead before or watch the series mentioned although I know of it. But I still have tons of series to watch, lol - which I kept putting it off. I'm juggling between 3 or 4 right now. LOL! Since there's one several I'm watching w/ my mom and then watching Hi-Fly for Jacky (which I don't think anyone in my family wants to watch w/ me 'cause of my obsession, lol).

Yea, I watch some stuffs on YouTube but I was so selective in the clips that I never watch the ones w/o Jacky, lol. Talking about that, I get to watch that one cooking show w/ him, Yu Rong, & Sam vs. Wei Ru, Xiao Jie, & Xiao Qiao. It was amazing how he cooks and knows everything. His came out the best.

On my laptop I have as a wallpaper a scene from TGDJY where Lu Zihao (Leon Williams) is writing out a cheque for about NT $6,000,000 that ying has demanded from him. ying is sitting on the edge of the boxing ring with his arms thrown back and his eyes closed. so cool.

It is really tedious work, but is really worth it if I can make you guys happy. (The part where Old Bei brings Xiao Bei to the shop and the way he escorts her looks like he's deliviring his daughter so the guys were joking about that, lol) Oh yeah, talking about threatening those ppl to be parents - he had to cover up for them too - how he said they have "normal ppl's face" or something like that. Ok, totally spoiling for ppl who haven't watch yet. But yea, I could go on forever but I'll save it for my series review, lol since I'm working on that now.

And Trinie - don't worry about it. Those ppl are just plain mean and don't know how hard translation work is. Come on! Sometimes phrases can't be translate literally or hard to get into context. You're one of the nicest ppl to actually take some of your "precious time" out to translate for fans. So just keep working on school first and do the translating later like you intend. Talking about that I just got my Angel Lover soundtrack yesterday and it's really good - worth it although quite expensive. Wish Jacky had more solos though but it's okay.

For the 100th time, I don't thnk he parties all the time. His manager is there and knows but didn't he clarify on one of the shows that he doesn't? He said that if he parties all the time, how can he practice? Or he's just lying - which I don't think he would or it's a risk to the fans not supporting him anymore? *shrugs* His manager is crazy! The pixs - so funny how you put though! But I don't think he had a bad haircut before - most of the style suits him well or at least it's decent. I think Ming Dao has the most trouble w/ hair 'cause he can only put it a certain way that makes him look good.

^^ I was not a fan of Jacky's AQMFS hairstyle. It made him look extremely flamboyant and more of a playboy. I like his clean-cut look (I LOVE it when Jacky looks serious or shy... or when he has his glasses on) because it makes him look adorable. '


Seriously... Sun Zhong is constantly insulting everyone else in the industry... but someone (not a J-Star fan) commented very wisely in the News thread (at the bottom of the news, Sun Zhong puts down YuRong for lacking confidence and says that he won't give Jacky jobs until he stops partying)... the user said something to the effect of, "Wow... this guy offends everyone and won't even stick up for his own artists... what a crappy manager." And it's absolutely true!

Honestly, I think the truth about Jacky is that he probably did, once upon a time, party. It may even have been a very RARE thing... but Sun Zhong had a bad impression from it; I know that's what happened to QE before she was frozen. She'd been drinking, it's true; but she said that she never really drank all that much... she'd just stay up all night and have a few drinks, but... one time she couldn't make it home in time to change before work, and the reporters smelled beer and smoke on her. After that, Sun Zhong froze her. :x Anyway, it's quite possible that Jacky either DID once have a partying problem (maybe he was depressed like QE... maybe he was used to the life of a model... I don't know) or that he just had a really bad drinking experience and run-in with Sun Zhong... it takes a LOT to get Sun Zhong to change his mind about someone who's "offended" him. And how can YuRong ever build up his confidence if he's always given bit roles in dramas? He hasn't had a truly big role since Ai Shang Qian Jin Mei Mei/In Love With a Girl!

i don't believe jacky partying all the time
how come his still got nice and powerfull voice?
because i know that if you been drinking to much and clabbing all the time
will be effect your voice and perform too
but he didn't , he still got amazing voice
but if jacky did partying , well i think maybe his stress after the operation or his life
cause his kind of person who never tell anyone about himself
he said that before if he depress or angry or sad , he always just keep it to himself

i really like Jacky voice his singing was so good
n i watch the hk show called "scoop" last year when 183 club came to hk
n first time i heard Jacky speak in cantonese and his cantonese was so fluent

That makes sense 'cause maybe he did in the past and got caught and his manager kept bringing it up everytime. It's quite annoying. And maybe his lifestyle like most 183 Club members commented is different - since he's born overseas - and that might have some effect? *shrugs* Just guessing here. But how come QE's so popular now and Jacky & Yu Rong still getting hold back? Seriously, how long have they had this manager ? Can they just fired him or is he like under J-Star so they're stuck with him no matter what? I don't know about this so just asking if anyone could clarify.

Not wanting to get off-topic, but I agree that Yu Rong doesn't get much of a bigger role, how can he even get his confidence up? The fact that even his manager is targeting him too, how can he have anymore confidence? It's ridiculous 'cause his acting is really good even if he had limited roles so far and he doesn't get recognized.



That's what I believe too 'cause w/ all that drinking, it will affect his voice. So like what tammiest sad (and I agree) that he must have drank some in the past but was just caught by SDR and now that guy is just rubbing in over and over again.

i heard he went to hk to play basketball in central district if i am not mistaken...fans could watch him playing but they had to obey the rule: only watching, dun distract him from playing...

It's a series with Benny Chan & some others (2004 - I think), Jacky's in there but he doesn't appear a lot. I'm still watching it. He's starting to appear more but will disappear again later. His acting is good in here although he appears a bit. His character is totally different from the other idol dramas.

I'm not sure since I found the Viet version and watch it with that. But I just got to the part where they messed his character up already. Grrrrr...I like him fine when he was "dumb" and "funny".

Oh yea, his hair's so nice in here and it's so funny that Benny has a higher position than him (well from the beginning of series since he was still in the airport training program) & he's towering over Benny. Sorry to laugh but it's just funny.

@ DTLCT...oic..i really want to watch it...the serie seems very interesting from what u say...really want to see jacky acting funny etc...i wonder if this serie is still available...i think it's pretty hard to find it =(
