Steven Ma is TVB's "own child". It all started in 1993 when he first entered the entertainment industry. It is obvious that he was a TVB contracted artiste. TVB gives him chances in every series he films. Sixteen years, each step and each footprint is not easy to obtain the position of being male lead. From 2005 and on, TVB became Steven's manager. TVB raised Steven, and this "own child" is still receiving strict training from TVB. TVB can definitely "promote talented people" as representative characters.

"If you say I have improved in my acting, then I really have to thank Catherine Tsang. All of these years, she would point out my flaws and criticize them. I respect her very much. Every time I see her is like a student seeing a teacher. It is respect that comes from the heart." No one can calculate the future, but Steven expresses his aspiration honestly, "When I look back and think of my TVB friends and colleagues, Catherine will definitely be my most missed elder benefactor. Also, I'm very thankful to Lee Tim Sing. On my acting journey, he is my teacher."

好艷福 Does Not Mind Assisting Newbies

In recent years, TVB has been confident in Steven's "in house" image. The series that he has been male leads in have received positive feedback and stable rating points. Lee Tim Sing insisted in using Steven to be the male lead and Tavia Yeung to be the female lead. All of the other candidates are not as experienced actors.

TVB's three promoted fa dans Tavia Yeung, Linda Chung, and Fala Chen have taken turns in being Steven's partner in series.

"All of my colleagues laugh at me saying I'm lucky because I get to pair up with pretty girls in every series!" He's so lucky; no wonder Steven does not mind being referred to "assisting newbies". "If the company thinks that I have this ability, then I feel really honoured."

Tavia Yeung Using Ten Years to Become a Polished Diamond



When talking to Steven about his "fate" with Tavia, Linda and Fala, he finds it very weird. "The love story I have with Tavia is usually full of troubled twists and turns. And Linda is always my wife. Fala has played my little sister in a couple of series. That is why she calls me "older brother" so easily."

Steven sees the three beautiful fa dans as "TVB's Three Gems". "The three of them have their own characteristics. Tavia's acting is mature and her outer appearance is good. She is very hard working and very 捱得. She loves the characters that she plays, and she gets into her character's emotion very easily.

Lee Kwok Lun has also praised Steven and Tavia's acting has fire. Steven and Tavia's acting has made Lee Kwok Lun's acting easier to get into character. "That is true! Tavia is already glowing. After ten years in the making, she is becoming a diamond."

Linda Chung's Chaste and Grace has Never Changed



Linda worked with Steven when she first entered TVB. The Linda back then was simple and naive. In the days of working together, Steven is able to talk heart to heart to Linda. He also encourages her and gives her pointers on how to improve in her acting. Steven also tells Linda not be submerged by the fame and fortune. "A few years later, I again worked with her in a few series, such as, "A Journey called Life", "Pu Song Ling" etc. I think she is the same as before. Her chaste and grace comes from inside. She has never changed, but her Chinese has improved. She has great performing potential and she has many talents still to be discovered." In Steven's eyes, Linda is strong, friendly, and insistent. She is not what the audience sees her as just a little girl. "Her thinking is very simple, it's just that her work load is too heavy lately and it affects her health. If her work schedule is arranged a bit better and that she rests a bit more, her performance can be better."

Not Being Selfish When Acting and Learning the Term "Good for Everybody"

Steven admits that learning how to communicate with his partners well is all thanks to the pointers from the veteran actors. "Kent Cheng, Wayne Lai, Ram Tseung, Lee Kwok Lun, Kara Hui, etc. have all taught me before. Other than acting, they also taught me that acting cannot be selfish, and I cannot just think about myself and always thinking about defeating my opponent. But, it has to be good for everybody.

With the concept of "Good for Everybody", Steven cherishes every scene with his partners. "Actually, I am still studying the art of acting. I still hope for veterans to teach and assist me. So, working with the three fa dans should be called "working together" and not "assisting newbies". But, seeing hard work and improvements, I can definitely say they will have great achievements in the future. And I am not lying about it."

"Turning Point" by Michael Tse was shown in cinema the other day. Laughing Gor Michael Tse, Lorretta Chow, Fala Chan and Tracy Ip went round to four cinemas to raise fund for the landslide victims. Michael expressed that the money they have collected to be donating to Taiwan for the landslide victims. Before the fund raising event, Michael and Tsang Sing Ming, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Department TVB were leading the way to ask everybody to donate 100 dollars each. The result of this appeal was very successful indeed. Among the donators, one child emptied his pocket and gave all he got in the donation box but some audience ran away when they saw the reporters.

"Turning Point" has been in cinema for 6 days, and it has already made 7,200,000 HKD. Michael is very excited, telling the reporter "The film is still showing in cinema, we have to wait till it is finished before we count its income. I still have to see the Executives nodding their heads first before I can relax." Reporter asked if Miss Lok is happy? Michael expressed that she deserves to be happy because she has done a lot for this movie and she has been rushing around engaging in the promotion too. The reporter reminded him that he is leading the way for the series turned into movie for Shaws Brothers Limited. Michael smiled "It is a good start."

Michael was very impressed with the people who were so enthusiastic for the fund raising activity. He said "There were very few people who turned away. I believed they were scared by the reporters pointing their cameras at them." Michael disclosed that one of his fans knew about the event, he bought half of the cinema tickets for his friends to see the movie. Michael added that he was like that himself before. After the activity, Tracy was very embarrassed because she had collected the least amount in her donation box out of the four boxes. She told reporter "I am useless, I am shy to ask people for money." The reporter asked should she be shy when she was only asking people for donation? She replied "Yea, I heard Michael asking people to donate whatever the amount, it doesn't matter whether it is 10 cents or 5 dollars. I did just that." Tracy was asked why didn't she wear something more sexy? Tracy said there was an incidence of sexual assault earlier, and she didn't want that happen to her. Moreover, she was also carrying a donation box. She went on to say that her manager saw a strange man lurking around, she was warned not to go near him.

Louise Lee Si Kei just returned from vacation, and she has gained weight, but she is in the process of losing weight. She says, "I look better skinnier. I used to take weight-loss pill, but after two, three years, there were problems with my nervous system, so I stopped taking them".

Timmy Hung was also at the promotional event. When the reporters asked him when he will get married, he changed the subject, and said he will have an intense kiss scene with Yoyo Mung in "Transferred Connection of Temptation".

Depending on the series "War of Beauty", which gave both Charmaine Sheh and Gigi Lai an opportunity to become the "No.1 Sister", it was a heated battle between the two actresses. FaDan advantage: Charmaine Sheh participated in Miss Hong Kong, then entered the industry. Her appearance at the time looked "traditional", although she only came in third, but she got strong support. Charmaine's acting path went from a cute girl to competent policewoman and finally to a smart concubine to get her current status. She belongs to both ability and appearance-based group of artistes.
Current Work: September 21, Charmaine Sheh appears at the "Heaven and Earth" costume fitting with a new refreshing short haircut. She expressed that last time when she had a haircut for a series was 5 years ago.

While Charmaine and Gigi were the leading actresses in almost all of their series, Myolie Wu at the time only played small roles. She also did not have the determination to compete with the current FaDans. Although Myolie's looks isn't the dominant part of her, but she is innocent, well-behaved, pleasant and works very hard. To accommodate her role in "To Grow With Love", she deliberately gained 36 pounds, sacrificing a whole lot. Among the TVB FaDans, she is the first to make such sacrifice, finally depending on this series, she won "Most Improved Artist Award".

FaDan Advantages: Among the many TVB actresses, not many are as well spirited as Myolie Wu. She depends on her ability "card" to make a breakthrough and TVB is strongly supporting her.
Current Work: In 2009, Myolie's series are abundant. Early 2009, she completed a new series "His True Father", where she challenges her acting skills playing Ron Ng's mother. Recently she just completed a Mainland drama (Beauty Scheme), Myolie expressed that she is very happy to be able to film in Mainland. She doesn't mind to do more Mainland series.

The new '80s newcomers are starting to make their way up. The newcomer who is the most prosperous is Linda Chung. She is currently getting heavily promoted, although she's not the first line actress in her series, but every one series that she participated in she was one of the leads. In the grand production "The Gem of Life", she acted in a role that was total opposite of her true self, even competing with her seniors Maggie Siu, Ada Choi and Gigi Lai. She becomes the most dazzling '80s FaDan. The other day when Maggie Siu was promoting for "The Gem of Life", she praised Linda: "I feel that she has potential, she also portrayed her role very carefully."

FaDan advantage: Linda Chung has two factors that makes her successful. First, her debut was strong, slowly getting popular and reaching the top. From "Heart of Greed" to "Moonlight Resonances" to "The Gem of Life", TVB has been strongly focused on her in the last two years. Sitting stabledly on her FaDan status, Linda is still only missing her own personal representative work.
