Chatty one minute, dull the next
Taiwanese singer-actress Angela Chang's mood changes quicklyBy Avis Wong

HOW apt is it that Angela Chang (right) has been hailed the 'Queen of Many Transformations' by her music label. Because her image is not the only thing that seems to undergo a rapid change, but also her mood, it seems.
She cheerfully bade adieu to a room of more than 20 reporters, photographers and cameramen after the press conference last Friday. When she adjourned to another room for a series of individual interviews, she appeared to have turned into another person.
From cheerful, sweet and chatty at the media conference to promote her new album Flower In The Wonderland, the Taiwanese singer suddenly became dull and reticent when reporters met her for the one-to-one sessions. Although she would look you in the eye with her big bright peepers, her answers were mostly as brief as her micro-mini bronze shorts. Her black and white outfit had more colour than her replies.
Maybe the poor girl has been working too hard.
Her schedule has been punishing - flying into Singapore at noon, meeting the media in the afternoon, performing at the National University of Singapore at night, and working all the way till midnight. All that without complaint, according to her label.
When it comes to work, Angela said she's a tough cookie. She willingly lay on coarse salt (this was the 'snow' in the music videos for the new album) till her skin was red, got close to worms, and wore thin summer clothes while filming in winter.
Professionalism comes first.'I don't wish to give up when it comes to work even when there are problems. I'd feel that it's not worth it if I just give up like that,' she told The New Paper. After all, the 25-year-old had wanted to become a singer since a decade ago.
She came in first in a singing contest in Canada, where she had emigrated to when she was 12. But it was acting that helped launch her showbusiness career.
The petite, reed-thin star shot to fame after starring in the popular idol dramas My MVP Valentine in 2002 and Love At Dolphin Bay the following year. The drama serials provided the platform for the release of her debut album Over The Rainbow in 2004. Flower In The Wonderland is her fourth release and is out in stores now.
The lass with the powerhouse vocals will also be staging her maiden concert in Taipei on Mar 31. The concert tour began its run in Shanghai last August, but subsequent locations are not yet confirmed, her staff said.
Apparently, she slogs so hard, she even dreams about work. She said her eponymous title track was created in her dreams, literally.
'It was pitch black and I heard two female voices humming that tune. It seemed like I was awake and I even thought to myself that the tune was really nice. 'When I woke up, I quickly wrote it down and later asked someone to pen a song based on that,' she told reporters."
Angela lamented that she doesn't get to dream of the guys she fancies though.
'I never dream of people I like. At most when I do dream of a guy, he is faceless,' she said, adding that she'd most like to have Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai in her dreams. She says her ideal man should be someone who is 'mature, must be a gentleman, and who can make me happy'. The sweetie-pie was once said to be dating 5566's Jason Hsu as well as Johnny Yen, her co-star in My MVP Valentine. But she has denied such talk.
SHE MISSES BEING IN LOVEShe would only admit that she misses being in love.
'I like that sweet feeling, where you're happy every day, and you have someone who's concerned about you and whom you care about,' she said.
She revealed that she has been in four or five relationships - the longest lasted five years while the shortest was for a year - and her last relationship was before she joined showbiz.
Though she craves romance, she has no grand visions of marriage yet.
She said: 'I haven't thought about it at all, marriage is still too far off for me. All I had wanted when I was 15 was to be a singer, so I have never thought of anything else.'
All work and no romance would make Angela a dull girl, wouldn't it? But no thanks to her showbiz pursuits, she said she has no opportunity to meet men.
'People think that as a celebrity, you have many suitors and are surrounded by many guys. But it's not true.
'The job requires me to run around a lot and even if I get to know someone, I can't keep in touch to get to know him better,' she complained.
In a quiet moment, she revealed: 'I do hope for someone to care about me. I feel a little bit lonely in some ways.'
Then she quickly added: 'But I'm happy in my work and there're many people accompanying me anyway.'
